Phillip Van Kaler
Services for Phillip Van Kaler, 76, Shawnee, are pending with Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh. He died Thursday in Shawnee.

Goldie Mae Phillips
Services for Goldie Mae Phillips, 91, Konawa, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pickard Swearington Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Mitch Williams and Richard Winter officiating. Burial follows in Konawa Cemetery.

Survivors include a daughter, Faye Minter, Swanton, Ohio; two sons, Raymond "Buck" Phillips, Ada, V.H. "Bill" Phillips and Hubert N. Phillips Jr., both of Konawa; a sister, Etta Howard, Holdenville; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Ronald L. McCalip
Ronald L. McCalip, 57, of Shawnee died Thursday at his home.

He was born June 16, 1944, in Shawnee to Gene and Oleta McCalip.

He graduated from Shawnee High School and attended Oklahoma State University and later St. Gregory's College.

McCalip was the owner and operator of Shawnee Ambulance Service and implemented the first local paramedic service. The ambulance service was purchased by Shawnee Medical Center in 1977. He subsequently served the city of Shawnee as emergency management director for 20 years until his medical retirement in 1997.

He married Janice MacKelvie on Sept. 8, 1967.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971, was stationed with the 4th Battalion, 20th Infantry Brigade at Fort Clayton in the Canal Zone, Panama. He attained the rank of sergeant and was active in communications, reporting and photography. Following active duty, he was in the Army Reserve until 1975, and then the Army National Guard until 1978.

He was a long-standing member of the Elks Fraternal Organization.

McCalip was preceded in death by his grandparents; brother, Allen McCalip; and a nephew, Gary Lee McCalip.

Survivors include his parents, Gene and Oleta McCalip of Shawnee; wife, Jan McCalip of the home; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jason McCalip of Shawnee and Cris and Tara McCalip of Blanchard; one daughter and son-in-law, Heather and David Gerdon of Shawnee; grandson, David Allen Shane Gerdon of Shawnee; two nephews, Shannon McCalip and Lance McCalip; and great-niece, Shanna McCalip.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Larry Sparks, the Rev. Glen Pence and Welton Copeland officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the directions of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel

Bonnie B. Terry
Bonnie B. Anderson Terry, 72, of Earlsboro died Wednesday at her home.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy Chaffin and Ray Selman of Earlsboro and Kathy and Randy Stacy of Earlsboro; five brothers, Coule Armbrister of Oklahoma City, George Armbrister and Louis Armbrister, both of Claremore, Claude Armbrister of Oolaga and Wayne Armbrister of Fouke, Ark.; one sister, Faye Ellick of Claremore, 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

Services are 10:30 a.m. today at Harvey Road Baptist Church, Seminole, with the Rev. Cecil Anderson and the Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. Burial will be at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Agnes Lorene LaShelle
Agnes Lorene LaShelle, 80, a native of Chandler, died May 29 in Grants Pass, Ore.

Survivors included two daughters, Rebecca L. Vaught of Chico, Calif., and Phyllis Ann Bennett of Colorado; a brother-in-law, C.M. Collier of Chandler; and other relatives and friends.

A private graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Davenport Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Mitchell officiating.

Arrangements are being handled by Parks Brothers Funeral Service.

Murriel Willard Brown
Murriel Willard Brown, 80, of McLoud died Tuesday in an Oklahoma City hospital.

He was born Aug. 29, 1921, in McLoud, the son of Joseph Basinger and Della Maude (Brown) Basinger.

Brown was a maintenance supervisor for OG&E at its Horseshoe Lake Generating plant. He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during World War II, from May 28, 1942 to Nov. 16, 1945.

He married Patsy Wood on May 27, 1950, in Shawnee. He attended the Methodist church and was a member of the American Legion. He lived in the McLoud area all of his life.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy Brown of the home; two sons, Rick Brown and Mike Brown, both of McLoud; three brothers, Lloyd Basinger of McAlester, Lonnie Basinger of Derby, Kan. and Jim Basinger of Everett, Wash.; two sisters, Billie June Lemons of Booneville, Calif., and Keitha McAdoo of Whitehouse Station, N.J.; three grandchildren, Megan, Matthew and Briana, all of McLoud; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Jamison Cemetery, with the Rev. Cindy Schillinger officiating. Memorials may be made to the McLoud United Methodist Church.

Arrangements are being handled by Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Max David Grayson Jr.
Max David Grayson Jr., 34, of Shawnee died Saturday in Baltimore, Md.

He was born Aug. 5, 1967, in Baltimore, the son of Max David Grayson Sr. and Dianna Meredith (Hatch) Grayson.

He was reared in Baltimore and attended school there.

Grayson was an artist and self-employed laborer.

He was a member of The Native American Center of Baltimore.

Grayson is survived by his father, Max David Grayson, of Shawnee; a son, Max David Grayson III, of Maryland; a daughter, Brandi Grayson of Maryland; a brother, Chebon Lee Grayson of Maryland; two sisters, Martha Regina Ray Grayson and Michele Deniese Lingerman, both of Maryland; and an aunt, Candy Myers of Shawnee.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Arbeka Indian Methodist Church, Cromwell, with the Rev. Eastman Factor officiating. A wake service will be held 8 p.m. today at the church.

Services are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home in Shawnee.

Kenny Patterson
Kenny Patterson, a former Tecumseh resident, died Friday in Madisonville, Texas. Services are pending and will be announced by Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Bessie Mae O'Dell
McLoud resident Bessie Mae O'Dell, 90, died Thursday at an Oklahoma City nursing home.

Survivors include a daughter, Clora Walton of Piedmont; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a sister, Bonnie Nix of Oklahoma City.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Tecumseh Cemetery with the Rev. Curtis Cox officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel

Parker Allen Koepke
Parker Allen Koepke, the 5-month-old son of Dustin and Moriah McFadden, died Sunday.

Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mustang Assembly of God church.

Polo Anglin
Polo Anglin, 89, of Stuart, Va., died Saturday at a Stuart nursing center.

He was born Dec. 15, 1912, in Patrick County, Va., the son of Walter and Nora "Ninnia" (Cox) Anglin.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Edith Bryant Anglin; his parents; a sister, Iris A. Via; and a brother, Arko D. Anglin.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Goldie A. and William Hagen of Shawnee; a son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Sue. T. Anglin of Roanoke, Va.; two grandchildren, Thomas Roger Anglin of Roanoke and William Ross Hagen of Shawnee; and two brothers, Byng Anglin of Roanoke and C.W. Anglin of Woolwine, Va.

A service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Stuart Baptist Church. Burial will be in Patrick Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Stuart Baptist Church, P.O. Box 472, Stuart, VA 24171.

Arrangements are being handled by Moody Funeral Home of Stuart.

Perry Ivan Lowber
Perry Ivan Lowber, 90, of Harrah died Sunday in Midwest City.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Lowber of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Donna Lowber of Meeker, Jerry and Linda Lowber of Harrah and Mike and Linda Lowber of McAlester; a sister, Olive Hill of New Mexico; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and many other relatives.

Services are 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church of Harrah with Dr. Dan Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Oklahoma City.

Arrangements are being handled by Asa Smith Funeral Service, Harrah.

Martha Louise Haygood
Former Shawnee resident Martha Louise Haygood, 89, Oklahoma City, died Monday in Oklahoma City.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fairview Cemetery.

Further announcements will be made by Rosech-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Daisy Lorene Sandfur
Daisy Lorene Sandfur, 73, of Ada, died Saturday at a local hospital.

She is survived by seven daughters, Nyeaka "Sue" Jimboy of Konawa, Glenda "Glennie" Snodgrass of Konawa, Shirley "Chatee" Watkins of Ada, Rebekah "Becky" McBroom of Earlsboro, Beverly "Chick" Handshaw of Seminole, Myra Sheppard of Goodman, Mo., and Mary Ann Algood of Maud; a son, Frank Sandfur of Earlsboro; an adopted son, Bennie "Blue" Sandfur of Shawnee; a granddaughter, Brandy Harjo of the home; four brothers, Jimmy Spencer of Midwest City, Alfred Spencer, Benny Smith and John Smith, all of Shawnee; 25 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

Services are 2 p.m. today at Victory Baptist Church in Maud with grandson Tim Harjo officiating, assisted by grandsons Corky Snodgrass and Gary Watkins. Burial will follow at Vamossa Cemetery.

A wake service was held Monday evening.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Verna Bailey McCuistion
Verna Bailey McCuistion, 56, of Macomb died Sunday in Shawnee.

She was born April 5, 1946, the daughter of Earl and Frances (Hine) Bailey.

McCuistion was reared in Tussy. She married John David "Big John" McCuistion on June 23, 1962, in Konawa. He preceded her in death on Feb. 15, 2001. Following her marriage, she and her husband lived in Ohio while he was in the military. She later lived in Rising Star, Texas, and moved to this area in 1984. She also had lived in Ada, Wanette and Macomb.

She attended Fox Public Schools and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Wanette.

She also was preceded in death by her father and two grandchildren, Kendyle Andes and Austin Coon.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Selena and Doyle Tisdell of Tecumseh and Tresha and Thomas Coon of Konawa; her mother, Frances Bailey of Shawnee; five sisters, Mary Merrill and Linda Bailey, both of Oklahoma City, Joquetta Newberry of Moore, Donna O'Neal of Washington and Betty Dickson of Shawnee; and seven grandchildren, Tim Evans of Shawnee, Jamie Wright and Melissa Evans, both of Tecumseh, and Anthony Andes, David Andes, Cheasa Coon and Jarrod Coon, all of Konawa.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel, Tecumseh. Burial will be in Wanette Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by Cooper Funeral Home.

Lester "Red" Bowerman

Lester "Red" Bowerman, 90, of Macomb died Monday in Macomb.

He was born April 27, 1912, in Cement, Okla., the son of Ben and Nancy (Smith) Bowerman.

Bowerman was reared in Konawa and Ray City. He lived in Sapulpa for several years. He had lived in Macomb and Romulus most of his life. He attended school in Ray City. He was a truck driver, working for Petroleum Contractors, and worked primarily out of Sapulpa.

He married Mozelle Key in Maud on April 7, 1939. She preceded him in death on Aug. 21, 1975. In 1977, he married Roxie Robison in Okmulgee. She died in 1992.

Bowerman was a member of Romulus Baptist Church.

He also was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and a brother.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Carole and Bennie Pierce and Anne and Johnny Lee, all of Macomb; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Romulus Baptist Church with the Rev. Darrel Witten officiating. Burial will be in Romulus Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by Cooper Funeral Home.
