Phillip Van Kaler
Shawnee resident Phillip Van Kaler, 76, died Thursday in Shawnee.

He was born Sept. 17, 1925, in Cement to Phil and Cecil (Worley) Kaler. He lived most his life in Oklahoma City and had lived in Shawnee several years.

Kaler married Judith Brown, Dec. 18, 1979, in Las Vegas, Nev.

During World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Fanshaw Bay. Following the war, he served in the U.S. Army. He later worked as a butcher at Wilson Foods of Oklahoma City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Russell V. Kaler and Kevin Scott Scaler and special aunt, Ginny Haynes.

Survivors include his wife, Judith Brown of the home; two daughters, Cheryl Ross and Donna Odom, both of Oklahoma City; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Joyce Kaler; four grandchildren, Greg Odom, Don Ross, Buddy Cobb and Courtney Kaler, all of Oklahoma City; and many relatives and friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Francisco Esparza
Francisco Esparza, 70, of Chickasha died Sunday in Oklahoma City.

Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday at Holy Name Catholic Church in Chickasha.

Burial will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.

Leona E. Williams
McAlester resident Leona E. (Tiller) Williams, 82, died Friday at Heritage Hills Nursing Home in McAlester.

Survivors include two sons and three daughters-in-law, Orval L. (Buddy) and Lanora Bell Williams of McAlester, Daniel R. (Danny) and Linda Williams of Stuart and Kathy Williams of Shawnee; grandchildren, Melanie Tarkinton, Lori Gonzalez, Jason Williams, Danielle Weeks, Holly Fisher, Tommy Williams and Lisa Crockett; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Resthaven Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Burnside officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Eric Steven Bedford
Seminole resident Eric Steven Bedford, 18, died Thursday at a Midwest City hospital.

Survivors include his mother, Patricia Bedford of Seminole; father, Lowell Bedford of Stockton, Calif.; a daughter, Meleaha Bedford of Shawnee; paternal grandparents, Jeff and Carol Bedford of Stockton, Calif.; maternal grandparents, Paul and Glenda Coots of Seminole; brothers, Todd Upchurch of Seminole and Bryan Bauer of Fresno, Calif.; and a sister, Shelly Berning of Seminole.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Kelvin Moseley officiating. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Beverly Ann MacArthur
Beverly Ann MacArthur, 65, died Saturday.

She was born Feb. 28, 1937, to Jesse Merle and Ora Hannah (Blumer) Overholt in Stillwater. She was a graduate of Stillwater High School and remained active in class activities. She attended Oklahoma State University prior to marriage.

She was married to Robert J. MacArthur for 33 years.

MacArthur was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two siblings, Jess Overholt and Gene Overholt Wilson.

Survivors include two sons, J. MacArthur and Matt MacArthur; daughter -in-law, Amy; and grandchildren Madelyn and Hayden.

Viewing will be held at Vondel Smith Mortuary North beginning today at noon. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Grace United Methodist Church under the direction of Vondel Smith Mortuary North.

Dorsey Humphrey
Dorsey Humphrey, 70, of Shawnee died Friday at a local hospital.

He was born Aug. 20, 1932, in Byers to Lovard and Flora (McCullar) Humphrey.

He owned and operated Humphrey Storm Shelters building shelters across the state and surrounding states.

He was married to Jacque Sue Tucker in 1955.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.

He grew up in Shawnee and lived here most of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard, Charles and an infant; and a sister, Grace Shirey.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Robert Walden of Burns Flat, Rhonda and Randy Ivy of Huffman, Texas, and Kari and Bryan Carsten of Shawnee; son, Carlos Leo Humphrey of Shawnee; sister, Margie Elrick; 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; an uncle, Allen Humphrey of Shawnee; nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Mike Craig officiating.

Services are under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Home.

Billy W. Dickerson
Billy W. Dickerson, 64, died Friday.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Dickerson; children and their spouses, Wayne and Kim Fleming, Randy and Lori Bagley, Jack and Lynette French, Mark and Heather Ooley, Norma Ericson and Brian and Andee Taylor; sisters, Eleanor Dickerson Torres and Wanda Lee Heinitz; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel, 601 S. Kelley, Edmond. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, 6001 NW Grand Blvd. of Oklahoma City under the direction of Matthews Funeral Home.

Ada Lee Chester
Ada Lee Chester, 76, formerly of Shawnee, died Saturday in New Carlisle, Ohio.

She was born Feb. 9, 1926, in Tecumseh to Isaac Jasper and Minnie Lee (Cargill) Kingham.

She attended Temple Hill and Tecumseh schools.

She worked as a receptionist at St. Gregory's University for 10 years and also taught ceramics at the senior citizen's center in Shawnee.

She married Lloyd George Chester May 4, 1942, in Tecumseh.

She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Shawnee.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers; and three sisters.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Lloyd Leon and Louise Chester of Dallas, Texas; two daughters and a son-in-law, Glenda Konechney of New Carlisle, Ohio, and Tonya and Wayne Klause of Shawnee; five grandchildren, Kari Konechney, Eric Klause, Aaron Klause, Judson Chester and Austin Chester; seven great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Mary Kingham of Tecumseh; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Liberty Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Matthews and the Rev. Phil Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Harold Thomas Swink
Harold Thomas Swink, 90, of Shawnee died Monday.

He was born July 6, 1911, in Shawnee to Homer and Ethel Swink.

He was a graduate of Shawnee High School and attended Oklahoma State University.

He was a farmer.

He married Bonnie Gibbons June 4, 1940.

He was a member of the South Rock Creek school board, the Bethel school board, the Shawnee Elks Club and the Shawnee Golf and Country Club.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Lanelle Swink of Shawnee and Bob and Charlotte Swink of Sebring, Fla.; a granddaughter, LaDon Ellsworth of Frisco, Texas; two great-grandsons, Jake and Cooper Ellsworth of Frisco, Texas; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Jack Swink of Shawnee and Jerry and Norma Swink of Port Aransas, Texas; and a sister, Gladys Harmon.

Graveside services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Phil Thompson officiating. Services are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Hubert Ray Wright
Hubert Ray "Jiggs" Wright, 62, of Shawnee died Monday at a local hospital.

He was born Sept. 14, 1939, in Stratford to Haskell and Mary (Spear) Wright.

He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1957.

He was the owner of Wright Roofing & Maintenance Service and was a member of the Roofers Association.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Catherine Wright of Shawnee; two grandchildren, Rachel and Michael Wright of Shawnee; three aunts and an uncle, Leona Spear of Shawnee, Windola Spear of Shawnee and Shirley and Tommy Phillips of Shawnee.

Graveside services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Tecumseh Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Beverly Kay Woodell

Beverly Kay Woodell, 54, of Sulphur died Saturday in Oklahoma City.

She was born Sept. 27, 1947, in Sulphur to Henry Pittman and Lillian Maria Nabors.

She attended school in Sulphur before moving to Shawnee, where she graduated from high school in 1965.

She married Terry Woodell May 5, 1975, in Tyler, Texas.

She worked for Carrier Air Conditioning.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Monte Shane Woodell; and a sister, Tonita Jane Jones.

She is survived by her husband, Terry of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Sean and Kristy Spears of Memphis, Tenn.; a sister, Laquita June Hignite of Shawnee; four brothers, H.A. Pittman and Donald Ray Pittman, both of Virginia Beach, Va., Gary Don Pittman of Shawnee, and Joe David Pittman of Oklahoma City; and a mother-in-law, Lillie Woodell, of Sulphur.

Services are 2 p.m. today at Central Baptist Church in Sulphur with the Rev. Willard McCartney Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Clagg Funeral Home.

Bill E. Boyd
Shawnee native Bill E. Boyd, 78, died Friday.

Survivors include his wife, Dorrace Boyd; daughters, Katharine Jennings of Valparaiso, Ind., Susan Dillard of Aiken, S.C., and Laura Alagna of St. Charles, Mo.; sister, Jean Liddell of Norman; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Baue Funeral and Memorial Center, 3950 W. Clay, St. Charles, Mo.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in St. Charles.

Memorial contributions may be made to Masses or Christian Haven, 12501 N. State Road 49, Wheatfield, Ind., 46392.

Services are under the direction of Baue Funeral Home in St. Charles.
