Ida Mae Vanzant

Ida Mae Vanzant died Friday at a Seminole nursing home.

She was 63.

She was born Dec. 20, 1936, in Corona, Ala. She was the daughter of James O. Bevan and Emily (Mullinax) Bevan.

She married John F. Vanzant on June 15, 1958, in Okemah.

Mrs. Vanzant was a head start teacher at Strother Schools, Wewoka Schools and Seminole State College and retired in 1988. She was a member of Okemah Freewill Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Bevan Feb. 28, 1996, and her husband, John Vanzant May 1, 1991.

Survivors include her mother, Emily Bevan of Seminole; one daughter, Beth Vanzant of Seminole, three sons, Arthur Vanzant of Harrah; Michael Vanzant of Wetumka and Lloyd Vanzant of Mounds; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Larry Bevan of Seminole and Paskel Bevan of Seminole; two sisters, Charlsie Rich of Bristow and Sheron Green of Sallisaw; several nieces and nephews and other family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Harold Turner officiating. Burial will be at Keokuck Cemetery.

Pearl Ryel Pecore

Pearl Ryel Pecore died Tuesday in Edmond. She was 99.

The daughter of John G. and Maybell Levenworth Ryel was born Feb. 23, 1902, in Indian Territory, near Perkins.

Mrs. Pecore became a teacher at the age of 16 and worked in a one-room school. She received her degree in 1928 from the University of Oklahoma. She taught for 31 years in Laverne, Cleo Springs, Minco and Chelsea, Okla.

She was the wife of Homer H. Pecore, who lived in Shawnee for a time.

Mrs. Pecore was involved in the church's women's society and a number of other causes.

Preceding her in death were her husband; one daughter, Homa Lee, and eight brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Al and Margie Pecore of Midland, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Merilyn and Bill Goodwin of Anadarko; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Private family services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Demuth Funeral Home in Oklahoma City.

Memorials may be made to the Christian Center Feeding Program, 225 E. Main, Anadarko OK 73005, or the American Heart Association.

Mabel L. Silvey

Longtime Shawnee resident Mabel L. Silvey, 90, died Tuesday at the Panama home of her daughter, Rosemary O'Cana.

Born March 28, 1911, in Franklin, Ky., she grew up in Wisconsin. The Silveys moved in 1944 to Shawnee, where they lived more than 50 years before moving to Tulsa.

Her husband, Paul W. Silvey, former owner of Parkin Farm and Hatchery in Shawnee, and longtime civic and Boy Scout leader, preceded her in death in 1999. Mrs. Silvey moved to Panama in January of this year.

She is survived by four children; Lee of Lakewood, Colo.; Bruce of Saint Petersburg, Fla.; Larry of Tulsa, and Rosemary O'Cana of Panama; 10 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Ira Raymond Love
Graveside services, with full military honors, for Ira Raymond (Ray) Love, 75, of Leesville, LA, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 9, 2003, at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery, Leesville, with the Rev. D.R. Davis officiating.

Mr. Love was born September 21, 1927, in Pauls Valley to Frank and Jewell Love. He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1945.

He was a longtime member of the East Leesville Baptist Church and retired from the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his wife Elaine Scott Love; his parents; a brother, W.E. ³Dub² Love and a sister, Virginia Shelton.

Survivors include one daughter, Theresa Jones of Tacoma Wash.; one step-daughter, Earline Hitchman of Aurora, CO; one step-son, Kenneth Scott of Burkburnett, TX; one brother Ted Love of Goliad, TX; one sister, Freida Soderstrom, a niece, Ellen Soderstrom, several cousins including Mary Lamb and Helen Brooks, all of Shawnee; a niece, Pamela K. Metcalf of Spring, TX; two grandchildren

and three great-grandchildren.

Carl J. Cowell
Carl J. Cowell, 84, died Thursday in Oklahoma City. Services are pending and will be announced by Parks Brothers Funeral Home.

Edith T. Dawson
Wanette native Edith T. Dawson, 93, Lexington, died Thursday in Terry, Miss.

Surviving are her granddaughters, Karla Ward and husband Marty of Houston, Texas, Sandra Staten and husband Lannie of Terry, Miss., and Deanna Dawson of Clinton, Miss.; sisters, Goldie Chastain of Bethany and Blanche Hudson and husband Fay of Asher; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Wilson-Little Funeral Home chapel in Purcell with burial following at Wanette Cemetery.

Thomas D. Foresee

Shawnee resident Thomas "Tommy" D. Foresee, 51, died Wednesday at a local hospital.

He was born May 3, 1951, in Shawnee to Tom L. and Vadene (Newsom) Foresee. He attended Shawnee High School and Oklahoma Baptist University. He worked as a salesman and was a member of the Kiwanis Club.

Foresee also was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 107, the Zoning Board of Adjustments for the city, taught Sunday school at University Baptist Church and coached T-ball.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Larry Foresee.

Survivors include Gail Foresee of Shawnee, a daughter, Staci Foresee, Shawnee, and son, Jeff Foresee, Shawnee; a son, Rick Foresee of the home; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Joyce Foresee of Shawnee; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the chapel of Walker Funeral Service with the Rev. Bob Searl and the Rev. Dann Masters officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Kathalene White

Kathalene White, 86, of Pink died Wednesday in Pink.

She was born Dec. 9, 1916, in Newalla to William Roland and Eva (Kidney) Smith. She was raised in the Pottawatomie and Cleveland county area and had lived in Pink since 1962.

On July 4, 1936, she married W.A. "Bud" White in Cleveland County. He preceded her in death on Feb. 21, 2000.

She was a homemaker and a member of Pink Baptist Church, where she served as Sunday school secretary for many years, as well as teaching Sunday school classes.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, three sisters and four brothers.

Surviving relatives include a daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Randall Caudle of Pink; a son and daughter-in-law, Nels and Phyllis White of Norfolk, Conn.; a sister, Daphn Stewart of California; six grandchildren, Angel Green and Michael White, both of Connecticut; Ryan White of San Francisco, Calif.; Tiffany Helms and Dawn McDonald, both of Oklahoma City; and Ty Caudle of Shawnee; and three great-grandchildren.

Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Harness officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.

Patricia Grace Visnieski
Patricia Grace Visnieski, 46, died Monday.

Services are pending with Smith-Parks Funeral Service, Harrah.

Eddie F. Routh

Former Shawnee resident Eddie F. Routh, Oklahoma City, died Friday. He was 67.

He was born Jan. 28, 1932, in Shawnee, the son of Charles Edward and Althera Drusilla Routh.

He attended public schools in Shawnee, graduating from Shawnee High School in 1950. He served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1952.

He married Margaret Joyce Cooper on Jan. 26, 1954, in Shawnee. He retired from the U.S. Government, working as a program manager for the FAA for 31 years.

He was a member of the S.W. Freewill Baptist Church of Oklahoma City.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Edward Routh.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce, of the home; one son, Chuck Routh and wife Nancy, Midwest City; one daughter, Pamela Drue Ward and husband Gary of Norman; five grandchildren, Aaron Ward, Stephanie Ward, Edward Frank Routh, Amy Routh, Rusty Routh; and one sister, LaVeda Montague of Midwest City.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at the Little Chapel of the Roses, inside Resthaven Memory Gardens in Oklahoma City, with Pastor Richard Terry officiating.

Services are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home of Oklahoma City.

Rosey Alice (Wescott) Billings

Rosey Alice (Wescott) Billings died Sunday in Shawnee. She was 84.

She was born Dec. 12, 1914, in Bristow to Emery and Annie Wescott. She was raised in the Bristow area and attended Old 44 Schools. She married Joe Billings Nov. 27, 1929, in Bristow. They lived in Oregon and Texas before settling in Oklahoma in 1970. The couple lived in Eufaula, Wewoka and Stigler before her husband's death in 1985.

She returned to Wewoka and later moved to Earlsboro, where she lived until her death.

Preceding her in death were her parents, E.O. and Annie Wescott; her husband, Joe Billings; one son, William Doyle Billings; two brothers, Arthur and Jim Wescott; and two sisters, Sylvia Welch and Susan Lough.

Surviving are a daughter, Judy and Richard Whitman of Earlsboro; grandchildren, Mark Billings of Phoenix, Ariz.; Shawn and Kelly Billings of Serin Fiesta, Ariz., Mark, Kent and Chris Whitman, all of Shawnee; and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oak Hill Cemetery in Bristow with the Rev. Bryce Gemmill officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Stout Funeral Home of Wewoka.

Leona Bradley Jones

Longtime Konawa resident Leona Bradley Jones died Sunday at a Maud nursing home. She was 89.

She was born Sept. 21, 1910, in Konawa to George Bradley and Ellen Nancy Sea. She married A. J. Jones on June 18, 1929, in Konawa.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include her sisters, Zelma Shavey, Durant; Eva Gibson, Oklahoma; Bessie Kennedy, Mt. Vernon, Ill.; two brothers, Dan Bradley, Konawa; Loyd Bradley, Oklahoma City; one grandchild and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, on Sept. 12, 1987; one son, three brothers, one sister and her parents.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Pickard Funeral Chapel with Richard Winters officiating. Burial will be in Konawa Cemetery under the direction of Pickard Funeral Chapel.

Susie Mineola Justice

Longtime Konawa resident Susie Mineola (Cravens) Justice died Sunday in Konawa. She was 90.

Mrs. Justice was born Dec. 27, 1908, in Konawa to John Sydney and Martha Savanna Blevins.

She was a homemaker and attended the Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include her niece, Era Wanna Cravens Hughes, Byng; sister-in-law, Opal Cravens, Oklahoma City; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by three husbands, Raymond Foran, in 1938; Alf Pierce, in 1964; and John Justice, in 1987; and four brothers.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at Pickard Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Mitch Williams and the Rev. Drew Isaacs officiating. Burial will be at Konawa Cemetery.
