Allen Eugene McCalip

Former Shawnee resident Allen Eugene McCalip of Lexington died Friday in Shawnee. He was 56.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Glen Pence officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

McCalip was born June 24, 1942, in Shawnee to Gene and Oleta McCalip. He attended Shawnee schools and served in the U.S. Army in the 7th Armored Division and the 8th Airborne Division.

He was employed as a corrections officer at L.A.R.C. correctional facility at Lexington.

Survivors include his wife, Carol McCalip, of the home; parents, Gene and Oleta McCalip, Shawnee; brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Jan McCalip, Shawnee; two sons, Shannon McCalip, Shawnee; Lance McCalip, Oklahoma City; two grandchildren, Shanna McCalip, Batesville, Ark.; Tyler Gifford, Lexington; two step-daughters, Amy Gifford, Lexington; Rebecca Gifford, Norman; one step-son, Jason Williamson, Claremore; two nephews, Jason and Chris McCalip, Shawnee; and one niece, Heather McCalip, Shawnee.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his son, Gary Lee McCalip.

Mable E. Banta Eastman

Tecumseh resident Mabel E. Banta Eastman died Wednesday in Oklahoma City. She was 79.

Mrs. Eastman was born May 3, 1921, in Bath, S.C., to James and Doshia (Fene) Blitchington.

She attended school in Union, S.C., and moved to Tuttle in 1945, then to Tecumseh in 1966. She lived in Ada from 1976 to 1979 before returning to Tecumseh.

She operated Banta Grocery and Station for 15 years. In Ada, she operated M & L Sandblasting for two years.

She was a member of the Highland Church of Christ.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry Lynn Banta and Terry Glen Banta, both of Tecumseh; and brother, Jessie Lee Blitchington, Union, S.C.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 11 brothers and sisters.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Cooper Funeral Home with Doyle Loveland officiating. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery.

Lonnie G. Cox

Lonnie G. Cox of Seminole died Tuesday at a Houston, Texas, hospital. He was 59.

He was born June 20, 1940, in Seminole to L.G. Cox and Dorothy (DeHart) Cox.

Cox married Evelyn Mitchell Self on May 23, 1989, in Mena, Ark. He was retired from Tinker Air Force Base in 1995 and worked for Schlumberger Oil Services for 20 years in Tyler,Texas.

In 1989, he moved back to Seminole.

He was a member of the Seminole Elks Lodge.

His father preceded him in death.

Surviving are his mother, Dorothy Pearson of Seminole; his wife Evelyn Cox of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Kaye Cox of Tyler, Texas; Lonnie "Doug" and Lee Cox of Newport Richey, Fla.; stepsons, Jimmy Self of Atoka; Randy and Denna Self of Owasso; stepdaughters Natalie Yerby of Seminole and Paula Walraven of Alvarado, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Wayland and Marty Cox of Tyler, Texas, and seven grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Swearingen FuneralChapel with the Rev. Robert Hightower officiating. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Jimmie R. O'Neal

Jimmie R. O'Neal, 74, Tecumseh, died Thursday in Shawnee.

Services are pending under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.

Helen L. Keels

Tecumseh resident Helen L. Keels, 82, died Thursday in Shawnee. Mrs. Keels was born June 14, 1917, in Oolitic, Ind., to Andrew Bogg and Lucille (McDermet) Johnson. She married John Keels Jr. on June 2, 1947, in Stephens County, Texas.

She was raised in Indiana and moved in 1947 to Texas, where she lived in Newcastle for 40 years. She moved to Oklahoma in 1982 and had lived near Tecumseh since 1989. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her daughter, Marie Sanders, Tecumseh; grandson, John Sanders, Bowie, Texas; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1980; her parents, and daughter, Beverly Peacore.

Burial will be in Newcastle Cemetery, Newcastle, Texas, under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.

Melvin Farris

Shawnee resident Melvin Farris died Monday in Oklahoma City. He was 83.

Farris was born March 3, 1917, in Shawnee, the son of George and Pearlie Farris.

He worked for Southwestern Bell until his retirement in 1979.

He married Ruth E. Richardson on Aug. 5, 1939, in Snyder. She preceded him in death on Feb. 19, 1997.

Farris served with the U.S. Army in the late 1930s. He boxed with the A battalion, 77th field artillery at Fort Sill. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy.

He was a member of the Wallace Avenue Baptist Church, and the American Legion.

He grew up in the Bethel and Dale areas, and lived in Shawnee most of his life.

Farris was preceded in death by his parents, George and Pearlie Farris; and a sister, Frienda Rawls.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Glenn G. and Mary Farris, Crescent; three daughters and a son-in-law, Minnie J. and Richard S. Giles Sr., Harrah; Melinda D. Gober, Bethel Acres; Doris M. Rodriguez, Lavina, Mont.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald and Frances Farris, Shawnee; Warren and Wilma Farris, Amarillo, Texas; a sister, Ola Mae Bryce, Norman; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel in Shawnee, with the Rev. DuWayne Colvin officiating.

Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

A.J. Lowe

A.J. "Jerrold" Lowe, Shawnee, died Tuesday in Norman. He was 94.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel, Shawnee. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Parkw.

Margaret Alice Brave Whitewater

Former Shawnee resident Margaret Alice Brave Whitewater of Cushing died Monday at a Cushing hospital. She was 78.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Kickapoo Friends Center at McLoud with the Rev. Brad Woods officiating. Burial will be at Jamison Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

She was born Jan. 4, 1922, in Lower Brule, S.D., the daughter of Alex and Alice Brave. The family moved to Oklahoma to the McLoud area at age 3. She was raised in the Shawnee area where she married and raised her family. She was a homemaker and a member of Kickapoo Friends Center. In her later years, she lived with her children.

Preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers, Francis Benjamin Brave and Artimus Alexander Brave.

Survivors include seven daughters, Julia J. Scraper, Cushing; Elaine Carter, Georgia R. Whitewater, both of Oklahoma City; Rosemary Locust, Vian; Susan A. Bates, Meeker; Larraine K. Whitewater, Shawnee; Dencia Wilson, Little Axe; two sons, James L. Wilson, Cushing; Paul S. Wilson, Bethany; 25 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a brother, Judson Phillip Brave, Tulsa, and a sister, Evelyn A. Haney, McLoud.

Claudia Bullock Sanders

Claudia Bullock Sanders, Shawnee, died Monday in a local nursing home. She was 93.

Mrs. Sanders was born April 17, 1907, in Dover, Ark., to W.J. and Mary (Brashears) Bullock.

She attended school in Dover, Pleasant Grove and Broomfield, Ark.

She worked at Shawnee Regional Hospital and ACH Hospital.

She married Teslie A. Sanders on May 25, 1924, in Dover, Ark.

She was a member of Northwest Missionary Baptist Church.

Mrs. Sanders grew up in Dover, but had lived in Shawnee for the past 56 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Teslie Sanders; a grandson, Delbert W. Bailey; son-in-law, Delbert Bailey; her parents, W.J. and Mary Bullock; and two brothers, Louis and John Bullock.

Survivors include her two daughters and a son-in-law, Louise Bailey, Shawnee; Irene and Ralph Pfeifer, Dover, Ark.; two sisters, Rebecca Ross and Willie Turner, both of Russellville, Ark.; three grandchildren, Jo Haggard, Shawnee; Rod Pfeifer, Dover, Ark.; P.J. Hennigan, Deary, Idaho; eight great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many other relatives.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel in Shawnee, with Pastor Ed Fox officiating.

Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Vernon Hawthorne

Vernon Hawthorne of Choctaw died Monday. He was 75.

He was born to William "Bill" and Josie (Graham) Hawthorne Aug. 2, 1924, in Panola. He was a deacon for 42 years.

Hawthorne was a member of the Eastwood Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel "Pauline;" two sons, Vernon and wife Carolyn of Shawnee; Wren and wife Shirley of Choctaw; two daughters, Judy Smith and husband Robert of Choctaw; Ellen Fitzwater and husband Shane of Chickasha; three sisters, Betty Davis of Spiro; Lois Muse of Holdenville; June Sorrels of Blanchard; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends.

Services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at Asa Smith Funeral Chapel, with burial at Jameison Cemetery, both located in Harrah.

Leonard R. Bradley

Leonard R. "Butch" Bradley of Harrah died Monday. He was 54.

He was born May 10, 1945, in Harrah. He attended Deer Creek School in Edmond and was a veteran of the Vietnam conflict.

Bradley was a cross-country cattle hauler for 38 years. He married Carol Kersey on June 4, 1970.

Survivors include his wife, Carol, of the home; daughter, Pam Simpson of Edmond; a son, Jeff Simpson of Yukon; four grandchildren, parents, Leonard and Hazel Bradley of Harrah; sisters, Barbara Richardson of Colgate; Karen Brinkoetter of Kilgore, Texas; two uncles and one aunt and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Asa Smith Funeral Chapel.

Wilbur Garlow Patterson

Wilbur Garlow "Pat" Patterson, Shawnee, died Sunday at his home. He was 83.

Patterson was born Dec. 26, 1916, in Waco, Texas, the son of Randall Morton and Clara Mabel (Garlow) Patterson.

He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1934. He graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1939, and attended Southwest Baptist Theology Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas in 1948. He was an engineer for Southwestern Bell for 33 years and former owner of Alarm Service Co.

He married Edith Viola Eye on Sept. 10, 1938. She preceded him in death on Feb. 4, 1976.

He later married Frances (Hopkins) Hodges on Nov. 18, 1977, in Shawnee.

Patterson was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church, and had been active at Putnam City Baptist Church. He was a member of Gideons International.

He previously lived in McLoud and later in Oklahoma City before moving to Shawnee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Randall and Clara Patterson; three brothers; and a sister.

Survivors include his wife, Frances "Fran" Patterson of the home; a son, Eddie Patterson, Highlands, N.C.; daughter, Carolyn Patterson, Newalla; three stepchildren, Shauna Brown, Midland, Texas; Dana Bays, Shawnee; Nathan Hodges, Shawnee; 11 grandchildren, Drew, Brian and Terry Patterson, Angela Sutterfield, Mark Patterson, Heather and Joshua Brown, Miranda and Claire Bays, and Cameron and Lydia Hodges; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jeff Moore and the Rev. Mark Patterson officiating. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery, under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church building fund.
