Dora Opal Warren McPherson

Dora Opal "Sam" Warren McPherson, former Shawnee resident, died Sunday in Ardmore at the age of 69.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Leslie Long officiating. Burial will be at Blackburn Chapel Cemetery.

She was born Jan. 30, 1931, at Hydro, the daughter of Benjamin and Callie Warren and was raised in Dodson, Texas, She attended Draughon's Business College in Amarillo, Texas, and was a bookkeeper.

She married T.C. "Mac" McPherson at Fort Worth, Texas, on Nov. 30, 1990. She had lived in Midwest City for more than 10 years, had lived in Shawnee for eight years and moved to Ardmore two years ago.

She was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church in Ardmore. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband and two brothers, Frank and Eugene Warren.

Survivors include her daughter, Susan Redwine, Shawnee; her son, Doug Monkres, Carrollton, Texas; four brothers, Elbert Warren, Denver Warren, both of Amarillo, Texas; Gerald Warren, Cassville, Mo.; Fred Warren, Oklahoma City; one sister, Ann Warren, Clinton; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many other relatives.

Bonnie B. Long

Lifelong Prague resident Bonnie B. Long died Thursday in Norman. He was 75.

He was born July 26, 1924, in Prague to Lemuel H. and Susan Elizabeth (Clark) Long. Long received his bachelor of science degree from Oklahoma Baptist University and his master's degree in secondary education administration from The University of Oklahoma.

During World War II, he was a B-24 pilot over the Philippines. Later he became a flight instructor at both Prague and Seminole airports. He also served as principal and coach at Centerview High School, south of Prague; then principal at Prague Elementary.

He was in business with Nathaniel Ford in Prague and retired in 1986 after 34 years as a rural mail carrier on Rural Route 2 in Prague. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and had worked with youth groups at the First Baptist Church and United Methodist Church for 40 years.

He was also a Master Mason in the Prague Masonic Lodge No. 209. He married Tommee Jean Cumbie Dec. 25, 1945 in Vandalia, Ill.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two sisters, Jessie Mae Hill and Ruth Long; one brother, Lemuel Clark Long and one son-in-law, Tommy Ray Winn.

Surviving are his wife, Tommee Long of the home; one daughter, Judy A. Winn of Norman; one sister and brother-in-law, Aileen and David Catlett of Midwest City; one grandson, Mark Darin Winn of Norman; two granddaughters Shauna R. Winn and Ashley A. Winn, both of Norman; one sister-in-law, Vera Long of Norman.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Prague with the Rev. Jim Powell and Bro. Tim Emmons officiating. Burial will follow in the Prague Cemetery.

Jessie Helcel Wheeler

Former Tecumseh resident Jessie Helcel Wheeler of Terrell, Texas, died Thursday. She was 87.

She was born March 6, 1913, in Lexington to William and Minnie (Couch) Helcel.

She married Chester Wheeler Oct. 3, 1931, in Maud. He preceded her in death Dec. 3, 1982.

She lived most of her life in Pottawatomie County, but she moved to Texas in 1994. She was a homemaker, a member of the Citizen Potawatomi Tribe and the First Free Will Baptist Church of Tecumseh.

Preceding her in death were her parents; three sisters, Della Swarb, Essie Cooper and Mary Bush; four brothers, Dave Helcel, Steve Helcel, Louis Wolfe and Charlie Wolfe.

Surviving are her daughter, Ina Walker of Quitman, Texas; three grandsons and wives, Thomas and Teresa Walker of Red Oak, Texas; Scott and Pam Walker of Waxahachie, Texas; Sam and Beverly Walker of Lumberton, Texas; seven great-grandchildren, Jennifer Velasquez, Tiki Sissell, Angie, Brian, Staci, Nathan and Laura Walker; two great-granddaughters; two sisters, Geneva Moorhead of Fort Worth, Texas; Rosa Lee Ruffinen of Florida; three brothers, Alfred Wolfe of Bethesda, Maryland and Leroy Helcel and Marvin Helcel, both of Arkansas.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Delbert Akin and the Rev. Sam Walker and Brian Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.

Alma Hall Blair

Alma Hall Blair, a former Shawnee resident, died Monday in Austin, Texas.

She was born 1907 in Boles, Ark. Her family later moved to Heavener.

She completed her college degree at Southeastern University in Durant. She taught 46 years in the public schools of Oklahoma and Arkansas.

She married Dr. F.P. Blair, a Heavener dentist in 1933. He preceded her in death in 1972.

The family moved to Shawnee in 1952.

A member of First Baptist Church, Shawnee, she participated in the Phebe Sunday school class and the Round Table. She was a member of the National and State Education Associations, Pottawatomie Retired Teachers and Kappa Kappa Iota.

In 1995 she moved to Austin, Texas.

She is survived by daughter, Martha Blair Roberts and husband Charles of Austin; grandson, David of Richardson, Texas; sisters, Undine Berryhill and husband Alvin of Bartlesville and Wynona Hall of Oklahoma City; two nieces, six nephews and their families.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Heavener Memorial Cemetery. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Highland Park Baptist Church in Austin.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Corner Ministry at First Baptist Church, Shawnee. Services are under the direction of Amey Funeral Home, 7811 Rockwood Lane, Austin, Texas.

Wallace Hall

Wallace "Dean" Hall, formerly of Aztec, N.M., died Sunday in Great Falls, Mont. He was 50.

Hall was born on Oct. 3, 1949, in McCamey, Texas, to William D. and Wilma Glover Hall.

He grew up in Aztec, N.M., and attended school until the 11th grade. He moved to Twin Falls, Idaho, where he graduated in 1967.

Hall worked in the oil field as a driller in California, Alaska and New Mexico before he moved to Great Falls, Mont., in 1995.

He was preceded in death by his father, William "Dude" Hall.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dean Edward and Robbyn Hall, Shawnee; Jacob Levi Hall and his mother, Loujan Harris, both of Aztec, N.M.; mother and stepfather, Wilma and Jim Anderson, Aztec, N.M.; brother and sister-in-law, Charles D. and Nita Hall, Aztec, N.M.; sister, Sandra Townsend, Aztec, N.M.; grandmother, Claire Cordes, Forgan; special friend, Deanne Hall, Great Falls, Mont.; three grandchildren, Joshua Dean, and Sarah and Megan Hall; several nieces and nephews and their spouses, Melanie and Juan Cervantes, Charliss and Terry Jones, Joni Lynn and Stan Phillips, Billy Townsend, and Casey and Angie Hall; and many other relatives.

A memorial service will be held at a later date, under the direction of Cope Memorial Chapel in Aztec, N.M.

Juanita Bazemore

Shawnee resident Juanita Bazemore died Wednesday in a local nursing home. She was 84.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel in Shawnee, with the Rev. Sam Hendry officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Further information will be released.

Louellen Newberry

Former Shawnee resident Louellen Newberry, Copperas Cove, Texas, died Monday in Temple, Texas. She was 88.

Mrs. Newberry was born Oct. 26, 1911, in Johnson County, Texas.

She grew up and attended schools in Durant. She worked at Graves Floral and at Mrs. Anna O'Neal's Kindergarten.

She married B.C. Newberry on Aug. 3, 1930, in Durant. He preceded her in death on Dec. 29, 1978.

Mrs. Newberry was a member of First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school.

She had lived in Shawnee since 1945, before she moved to Copperas Cove, Texas, in 1992.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Joan Louree Stevens; her parents; a sister, Leona Moore; and a brother, Marvin Moore.

Survivors include her three daughters and two sons-in-law, Donna and Paul Groves, Jacksonville, Fla.; Margaret Newberry, Copperas Cove, Texas; Cindy Newberry, Jacksonville, Fla.; Phil Stevens, Shawnee; a son, Jim Newberry, Templeton, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Resthaven Memorial Park, with the Rev. Paul G. Calmes officiating. Services are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel, Shawnee.

Charles Edward Sebastian
Charles Edward "Eddie" Sebastian of Seminole died Monday at Oklahoma Regional Medical Center. He was 49.

He is survived by his wife, Carol, of the home; his sons, Christopher and Michael Sebastian, both of Wewoka; four stepsons, Curtis Bunnell of Louisiana, Michael Bunnell of Iowa, James Bunnell of Maud and D.J. DeBoef of Iowa; three stepdaughters, Carol Bratt of Pauls Valley, Jeanetta Anderson of Iowa and Christina White of Seminole; one sister, Sue Hamilton of Dallas; and 21 grandchildren.

Service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Carl Upton officiating.

J.D. Friend

J.D. Friend, longtime resident of the Prague area, died Saturday in Oklahoma City. He was 76.

Friend was born Nov. 24, 1926, at Mason, Okla., to Bert and Bena (Edney) Friend.

During WW II, he served overseas in the U.S. Army and received the Purple Heart.

Friend retired from Tinker Air Force Base, where he worked as a branch chief of quality control.

He was a member of Deer Creek Baptist Church.

Friend married Lillie Jean Behrnes Jan. 8, 1948, in Okemah. She died March 14, 1992.

He then married Helen (Behrnes) Dostal in Prague. She died April 20, 1999.

On Nov. 12, 1999, he married Christine (Williams) McLain in Eureka Springs, Ark.

He also was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

He is survived by his wife, Christine, of Prague; three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Carol Friend, George and Jana Friend, and Jerry and Mary Friend, all of Prague; three daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy Whisenhunt and Paula and Dave Hoffman, all of Prague, and Kathy and Brent Cooper of Tulsa; two stepsons and daughters-in-law, James and Donna McLain of Wellston and Harold and Ronna McLain of Cushing; two stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Vernon Quinn of Stroud and Sherri and Charles Quinn of Carney; two sisters, Mattie Jo Davis of Owasso and Classie Willingham of Bristow; 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, nine stepgrandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren.

Howard Eugene McCoy

Howard Eugene McCoy, 71, died Monday at his home in Shawnee after a long illness.

McCoy was born April 13, 1932, in Checotah, to Lewis and Nora McCoy.

He served in the Korean War from 1950 to 1952.

At one time, McCoy was a dog catcher for the city of Wewoka. He also worked for the street department at the city of Shawnee.

He married Eva Fay DeShields on March 3, 1964.

McCoy is preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one daughter, Brenda Fay Holmes.

He is survived by three sons and one daughter-in-law, Tommy and Bobby McCoy, both of the home, and Lewis and Tina McCoy of Shawnee; one son-in-law, David Holmes; 10 grandchildren, Howard McCoy, Jaye Kay McCoy, Dustin McCoy, Eric McCoy, Blake McCoy, David Holmes Jr., Jimmy Reeves, Brandy Holmes, Francis Holmes and Jimmy Holmes; also, seven great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at the Tecumseh Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Stock officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.
