Glenna Pearl Meade

Shawnee resident Glenna Pearl Meade died Monday at a local hospital. She was 83.

Services are pending under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Home.

Elder Shankle

Elder Shankle, 78, died Monday in Tecumseh.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.

William M. Lowry Jr.

Shawnee resident William M. "Bill" Lowry Jr. died Friday at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was 77.

Lowry was born Dec. 20, 1921, in Shawnee to William M. and Blanche Shorney Lowry Sr. He married Hazel Fruit in October of 1941 in Portland, Ore. After her death, he married Betty Harrell in January of 1954 in Shawnee.

He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1939 and had lived in California and Oregon for several years. On Dec. 31, 1983, Lowry retired from Tinker Air Force Base after 22 years of service. He had worked for Oklahoma Natural Gas and Sylvania Electric for 11 years. He was also a part-time farmer.

He was a longtime member of the Rock Creek Baptist Church and was a current member of the Tecumseh First Assembly of God. He was a 32nd degree Mason and was president of the Pottawatomie County Farmers Union and the South Rock Creek School Board.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Lowry, of the home; sons, Joe Wayne Lowry, Laurinburg, N.C.; Ronald Keith Lowry, Douglas, Ga.; Gregory Alan Lowry, Shawnee; daughters, Linda Louise Kinder, Marysville, Wash.; Cheri LeAnne Lowry, Seattle, Wash.; five grandchildren, Misty Balentine, Shawnee; Miranda Kinder, Olympia, Wash.; Angela Lowry, Laurinburg, N.C.; Ronald K. Lowry Jr. and Robert William Lowry, both of Cordele, Ga.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ward McCaskill, Spencer; Neldena Harris, Miami; Darrell and Joyce Colwell and Joe and Barbara Bonner, all of Oklahoma City; and five nephews and two nieces.

He was preceded in death by his mother, in December of 1993; father, in October of 1974; wife, Hazel Fruit, in 1951; brother, James E. Lowry, in 1976; and sister, Louise McCaskill, in 1993.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Rock Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Rider officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Kathryn Mary Kozel

Oklahoma City resident Kathryn Mary "Kay" Kozel died Friday at her home. She was 89.

Kozel was born in Okarche on March 26, 1910, to Michael and Caroline (Maschino) Schwarz.

She married Tony Kozel on Feb. 10, 1948. He preceded her in death.

Kozel, who lived in Prague before moving to Oklahoma City, was a member of Epiphany Of The Lord Catholic Church in Oklahoma City.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Frank Dolf Jr., Oklahoma City; brothers, Leo Schwarz, Okarche, Mike Schwarz, Hennessey, and Edward Schwarz, Yukon; sister, Helen Cooper, Prague; and grandchildren, Jennifer, Jason and Stefanie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and four sisters.

Funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Prague, with the Rev. Adrian Vorderlandwehr officiating. Burial will follow in the Catholic Cemetery, under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Prague.

W.F. Hart

Lifelong Shawnee resident W.F. "Floyd" Hart died Saturday at a Midwest City hospital. He was 82.

Hart was born July 1, 1916, in Shawnee to U.F. Hart and Maggie (Hutchins) Hart. He married Margene Elizabeth Mathews on Dec. 16, 1940, in Shawnee.

He graduated from Bethel Schools and retired from Shawnee Motor Supply after more than 40 years of service. He attended the Wallace Avenue Baptist Church.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Ann and David Novey, Shawnee; son and daughter-in-law, Jon and Penny Hart, Shawnee; four granddaughters, Shanna Tigner, Teresa Novey, Tami Barnes and Allison Turner; grandson, Aaron Hart; two great-grandsons, Leslie Scott Turner and Ryan Tigner; great-granddaughter, Kayleigh Tigner; sisters, Janet Joyce, Wall, S.D.; Marjorie Coffman, Toledo, Ohio; Velma Coffman, Shirley Slaten and June Rakovan, all of Shawnee; Barbara Vickers, Midland, Texas; brother, James Hart, Shawnee; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, on Dec. 22, 1996; two sisters, Loretta Farris and Dorotha Chancellor; brother, Richard Hart; and great-grandson, Trey Tigner.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Herman Coffman officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Ernest Roselius

Panhandle, Texas, resident Ernest Roselius died Friday in Amarillo, Texas. He was 95.

Roselius was born in Cleveland County and moved to Panhandle in the 1920s. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and he worked as a barber and farmer. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a Shriner and member of the Panhandle Athletic Booster Club. He was active in the Panhandle Chamber of Commerce and many other civic activities, and he was member of the Panhandle School Board for 13 years.

Survivors include his wife, Ida, of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Dale Joe and Peggy Roselius and Jay Bob and Reva Roselius, all of Panhandle; daughter and son-in-law, Carol Ann and Jimmy Don Mitchell, Panhandle; sisters, Pat Wisener and Venita Thrasher, Oroville, Wash.; nephews, W.R. "Dub" Roselius, Tecumseh, and Jack Roselius, Macomb; niece, Joe Ann Jackson, Tecumseh; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be Monday at 3 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Panhandle. Burial will be in Panhandle Cemetery under the direction of Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors, Panhandle.

Memorials may be made to Carson County Square House Museum, Panhandle First United Methodist Church or a favorite charity.

Patsy Minor

Tecumseh resident Patsy Minor died Saturday in Shawnee. She was 60.

Services are pending and will be announced by Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Melba Lorene Norton

Shawnee resident Melba Lorene Norton died Saturday in Shawnee. She was 77.

She was born and raised in Oil Center.

Survivors include her son, Richard Norton, Shawnee; brother, Roy Soward, Evansville, Ind.; and granddaughter, Rabecka Norton, Shawnee.

Services are pending with Smith Funeral Home of Ada .

Thelma Austin Rose
Thelma Austin Rose, 84, of Stockton, Calif., died Tuesday in Stockton, Calif.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. James Walters officiating. Burial follows in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Anthony Opichka

Anthony Opichka, 33, Choctaw, died Wednesday in Oklahoma City.

He was born June 14, 1965, in Madrid, Spain, to Romeo Leonard and Maria (Exposito) Opichka. He attended St. Gregory College for two years and graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1995.

He spent 10 years in the U.S. Air Force Reserve and was a computer engineer for Xerox Connect.

He is survived by his parents, Romeo and Maria Opichka, Choctaw; brother, John Opichka, Blanchard; sister, Elizabeth Opichka, Choctaw, and grandparents, Romeo Jacob and Sivlia Marie Opichka, Wisconsin.

Wake will be 5 p.m. today at St. Teresa's Catholic Church, Harrah, and funeral mass will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be at St. Teresa's Cemetery, Harrah. Father James Murphy will officiate. Asa Smith Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Argie B. Lewis

Argie B. (Burrahm) Lewis, Eugene, Ore., died Feb. 10 in Eugene, Ore. She was 81.

Mrs. Lewis was born July 19, 1917, in Meeker to Clint and Loma Burrahm.

Survivors include her daughters, Yvonne Chamblee, Odessa, Texas; Linda Patterson, Eugene, Ore.; Carla Disher, Harrisburg, Oregon; brother, Quentin Burrahm, Shawnee; sisters, Maxine Ramsdale, Eugene, Ore.; JoAnn Hollis, Hydro; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Loma Burrahm; her father, Clint Burrahm; and two brothers, Tolbert and Walter Burrahm.

Services were Feb. 12 at Resthaven Memorial Park in Eugene, Ore., with pastor Bobby Nott officiating.

Robert A. Westling

Tecumseh resident Robert A. Westling died Wednesday in Oklahoma City at the age of 76.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Okmulgee Cemetery with the Rev. David Nolen officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Chapel of Tecumseh and visitation will be at the chapel.

Robert A. Westling was born Sept. 17, 1922, in Okmulgee to Arnold and Gladys (Marriott) Westling. He was reared in Okmulgee and graduated from Okmulgee High School.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was a staff sergeant and ball-turret gunner on one of the veteran B-17 bombers that dropped the last bombs on a German target, the Skoda armaments works at Pilsen, Czechoslovakia, at 11:16 a.m. April 25, 1945.

Westling received the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster for meritorious achievement in aerial combat.

He lived in Tulsa, where he was in banking and moved to Phoenix, Ariz., in 1960 where he was district manager for Farmers Insurance Group. In 1977 he became dispatcher for Cooper-Jarrett Inc. in Kansas City, Mo.

He became comptroller for the city of Shawnee in 1978. He retired in 1982 and returned to Tulsa for a short while. He has lived in Tecumseh since 1993.

He was a member of the 34th Bomber Group, 544th Bomb Squadron, Shawnee VFW Post 1317 and Okmulgee High School Alumni Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving are his daughter, Barbara Ann Carter, San Diego, Calif.; son and daughter-in-law, Robert David and Diane Westling, Scottsdale, Ariz.; grandchildren, Michael Carter, San Diego; Ashley Westling, Natalie Westling, both of Scottsdale, and many other relatives.

Darold Ray Withrow

Darold Ray Withrow, Tecumseh, died Tuesday in Oklahoma City. He was 72.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Chapel in Tecumseh with Don Tiger officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery.

Darold Ray Withrow was born March 26, 1926, in Anson, Kan., the son of Ray and Leona (Leonard) Withrow. He was reared in Anson and graduated from Anson High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army during peace time and married Ruby Bruno in Clayton, N.M., on Oct. 10, 1951.

He lived in Ellinwood, Kan., from 1948 to 1972 when he moved to Moore. He had lived in Tecumseh since 1973. Withrow worked in oil field trucking for more than 40 years, retiring in 1988 from Austin Drilling in Seminole.

He was active with the Tecumseh Housing Authority.

His parents preceded him in death.

Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Dana Scheuerman and Rich Dickson, Tecumseh; Carol and Ike Roberts, Shawnee; Kathy and Chris Lawson, Tahlequah; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Terry Withrow, Tecumseh; brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Judy Withrow, Derby, Conn.; sister and brother-in-law, Ralph and Darlene Jarboe, Arkansas City, Kan.; grandchildren and their spouses, Becky and Ted Prewett, Clayton Scheuerman, Scott and Valerie Roberts, Angie and Steve Dye, Amy and Luke Abel, Brent Goodman, Nick Goodman, Chelci Withrow; nine great-grandchildren; special friend, Lorene Thorpe, and many other relatives.

Dean Brook

Lifelong Okfuskee County resident Dean Brook died Wednesday at his home northeast of Okemah. He was 90.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Okemah with the Rev. Carl Clay officiating. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery.

He was born May 10, 1908, northeast of Okemah to John Brook and Jeanetta Harvison Brook. He was a Muscogee-Creek citizen and a member of the Wind Clan.

He married Margaret Alyne Geren at Wetumka on June 14, 1934, and was a rancher. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Okemah and Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association. He was active for many years in Okemah Roundup Club.

His daughter, "Scootie" Brook, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Margaret Brook of the home; two sons, Jon M. Brook, Tulsa; Dan D. Brook, Okemah; one daughter, Candee Kay Collins, Kilgore, Texas; sisters, Virginia Birk, Santa Barbara, Calif.; LuCretia Harkey-Roberts, Okemah and Denver, PA., three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
