Lillie C. Florer

Longtime Davenport area resident Lillie C. Florer died Wednesday in Chandler at the age of 82.

She was born Dec. 27, 1916, in Rockcastle County, Ky., the daughter of James and Rachell (Burdine) Price Sr. She had lived in the Davenport area for many years and was a member of First Baptist Church, Davenport.

She married John William Florer in Guthrie on July 1, 1936, and they had seven children.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Bill, four brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Bill L. and Pauline Florer, Arcadia; Wayne D. and Joann Florer, Guthrie; John Jr. and Connie Florer, Tuttle; daughters and sons-in-law, Mae Florer, Davenport; Ellen and Eldry Ferguson, Many, La.; Alice and John Vandever, Stroud; Lorene and Elgin Smith, Moore; 20 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, and many other relatives.

Services will 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Davenport, with the Rev. Mike Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at Parkland Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Chandler.

Claude Edward Kitchen Jr.

Claude Edward Kitchen Jr. died Saturday at his home. He was 67.

He was born Feb. 7, 1932, in Tulsa. He was the son of the late Claude Edward and Bernice Ruth Gaddy Kitchen.

Kitchen was reared and educated in Cushing schools, graduating from Cushing High School in 1950. He was also president of his high school class. He then attended the University of Oklahoma, where he earned his bachelor's degree in geology.

He was the president of Kitchen Oil Company, a 35-year-old bulk and package oil operation in Stroud. Kitchen was a member of the Cushing Lions Club and member of AA.

Survivors include his children, Louann Kitchen of Pasadena, Calif.; Stephen Kitchen of Boulder, Colo., and David Kitchen of Stroud; one sister, Carol Biehle of Roseville, Calif.; companion, Joanne Oare of Sapulpa; three nephews and two nieces-in-law, Jeff and Lisa Biehle, Kyle Biehle, and Brian and Jennifer Biehle; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Roger Manley officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Caring Hands Hospice, 318 W. Main, Stroud, Okla. 74079.

Services are under the direction of the Davis Funeral Home in Cushing.

Betty Jo Baker

Betty Jo Baker of Shawnee died Sunday in a local nursing home. She was 65.

She was born May 17, 1934, in Holdenville. She was the daughter of Burt and Stella Mash.

Baker was preceded in death by one son, Robert Wertz.

Survivors include one sister, Paulene Hembree, Shawnee; two nieces, Lois Hembree, Shawnee, and Linda Jane Crume, Coldspring, Texas; two nephews, Fred W. Hembree, Shawnee, and Jerry Ray, Dale; and several grand nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fairview Cemetery with Don Sullivan officiating under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Harry Martin

Harry Martin of Harrah died Monday. He was 86.

He was born near Holdenville on Jan. 6, 1914, and worked as a farmer and oil field worker before retiring from the Mid-Del school system as a warehouseman in 1976. Martin had lived in Harrah since 1978 and was a member of the Harrah Free Will Baptist Church and was active in the Senior Saints Sunday school class.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, three sisters and a grandson, Mark Allen Denney.

Survivors include his wife of 65 year, Lois; two sons and a daughter-in-law, John Martin of Harrah and Wayne and Jean Martin of Shawnee; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Nancy Denney, Betty and Asa Smith and Paula and John Dunlap, all of Harrah, and Carolyn and Mike Agan of Pittsburgh, Pa.; 13 grandchildren, Russ Martin of Deer Park, Wash., Scott Martin of Los Angeles, Calif., Steve Martin of Harrah, Adam Denney of Harrah, Chris, Gary and David Denney of Denver, Colo., Bob and Cass Smith of Harrah, Geoff Agan of Harrah, Cami Agan of Oklahoma City, Matt Trow of Norman and Jessica Dunlap of Harrah; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Free Will Baptist of Harrah. Burial will be in Memory Lane Cemetery, Harrah, under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Walt Aanyeur Scholarship Fund.

Moleta Bland

Former Shawnee resident Moleta Bland, Mounds, Okla., died Monday in Tulsa. She was 83.

Mrs. Bland was born Jan. 21, 1916, in Piqua, Ohio, to Myron and Ethel (Pope) Bowman.

She married Jack Bland Sr. on Feb. 10, 1943, in Siloam Springs, Ark.

She retired from the credit department at Dillard's Department Store.

Mrs. Bland was a member of Osage Hill Christian Church in Tulsa, and a longtime Tulsa area resident.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Bland; parents, Myron and Ethel Bowman; and a brother.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Mayra and John Wood, Mounds; stepdaughter, Jacquline Hopkins, Houston, Texas; granddaughter, Erica Demmitt, Mounds; and three stepgrandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Resthaven Funeral Home in Shawnee, with the Rev. Hershel Martin officiating.

Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Beatrice Hale

Shawnee resident Beatrice Hale died Monday at a local nursing home. She was 90.

She was born Feb. 10, 1909, in Washington, Ind., to Elmer Russell and Elizabeth (Bacon) Russell.

She married Roy F. Hale July 2, 1929, in Shawnee.

Mrs. Hale was a graduate of Shawnee High School. She retired as a clerk with Montgomery Wards of Shawnee with about 25 years of service.

She lived in Shawnee for 73 years. She was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church of Shawnee for more than 70 years.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Buster and Gladys Hale, Shawnee; granddaughter and her husband, Susan and Jack Lowe, Shawnee; two great-granddaughters, Lisa Lowe, Stillwater, and Leslie Lowe, Norman; sister, Cassie Lathrop, Oklahoma City; sister-in-law, Laverle Russell, Shawnee; brother- and sister-in-law, Ed and Margie Hale, Oklahoma City; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy Hale; and two brothers, Joe Russell and H.M. Russell.

Services will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kay Smith officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to St. Mark's United Methodist Church of Shawnee.

Mary Florence Carr

Mary Florence Carr died Monday in Holdenville. She was 92.

She was born Aug. 29, 1907, in Partridge, Kan. She was the daughter of Charles and Minnie (Crisler) Baugus.

She married Edgar Freeman Carr Dec. 13, 1924, who preceded her in death on Dec. 24, 1982.

Mrs. Carr was a homemaker and a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church.

She also was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, three brothers, one son and one daughter.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Louise Carr, Mt. Ida, Ark.; daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Quinton McCoy, Wetumka; brother, Earl Baugus, California; sister, Pearl Singleton, California; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Prague with the Rev. Morris Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Paden Cemetery under the direction of the Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague.

Garland Spicer

Garland Spicer of Shawnee died Monday. He was 76.

He was born July 15, 1923, in Yale. He was the son of George Garland and Sylvia (Fryer) Spicer.

Spicer grew up in St. Louis, Okla., and lived in Shawnee for 35 years.

He attended school at Saint Louis. He graduated in 1941. He also attended Okmulgee Tech for three years.

He worked in the oil fields for 22 years. He also worked at Tinker Air Force Base for 23 years before retiring in 1986.

During World War II, he served with the United States Army as a tank commander with the 6834th Rearmament Regiment in Rone-Arno, North Apennines, Rhineland and Central Europe. While serving, he received the World War II victory ribbon, good conduct medal, EAME theatre ribbon and four bronze stars.

He was a member of the Highland Church of Christ and a lifetime member of the Shawnee VFW.

He was preceded in death by his father, two sisters and one brother.

Survivors include his mother Jewell Spicer of Saint Louis; son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Laurie Spicer of Tecumseh; daughters and sons-in-law, Dana and Larry Starns of Edmond and Becky and Johnny Hays of the home; four grandchildren, Bryan Spicer of Tecumseh, Angela DuBois of Guthrie, Kristie Costley of Weatherford, Texas, and Jason Starnes of Edmond; four great-grandchildren, brothers, Jim and Maxine Spicer of Seguin, Texas, Jerone and Cookie Spicer and Veldon and Sharon Spicer, all of Saint Louis; sisters, Delores and Tony Kowalski of Roscommon, Mich.; Claudetta and Jim Cobb of Lexington; Alice Martindale of Elk City; Linda and Leon Steffes of BridgeCreek; Jean and Bob Watson of Calvin and Patsy and Gary Strayhorn of Bowlegs; friends, James Leeder of Porum and Dale Knowles of Eugene, Ore., and numerous nieces, nephews and church family.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Highland Church of Christ with Bob Anderson and Doyle Loveland officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Dr. William E. Neptune

Dr. William E. (Bill) Neptune, 74, formerly of Shawnee, died Monday at his home in Eufaula.

Dr. Neptune was born April 24, 1928, in Lawton to E.E. Neptune and Mary Louise Green. He attended Lawton Public schools and graduated valedictorian of Lawton High School 1946.

He went on to graduate summa cum laude with honors from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1950. He received a masters in chemistry and physics in 1952, and a Ph.D. in 1954 from The University of Oklahoma.

He married Mary Lu Ligon of Lawton in June of 1950.

They moved to Shawnee in 1954 when Dr. Neptune began his 26-year career at Oklahoma Baptist University.

He began as assistant professor of chemistry in 1954. Later, he served as dean of liberal arts, vice president of academic affairs and provost, from which he retired in 1980.

He also served as interim president of the university in the 1976-77 school year.

Following his retirement, he worked with the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention as National Consultant for In-Service Guidance.

He also served as an examiner and executive board member for the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and as examiner for the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.

Neptune received a Profile in Excellence Award from the OBU Alumni Association in 1995.

During his years in Shawnee, Neptune was a member of the Lion's Club, YMCA Board of Directors, Salvation Army Board of Directors and the Sine Nomine Singers. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Shawnee and Vivian Baptist Church of Eufaula.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lu; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Clyde Woods of Shawnee; daughter, Stephanie Scrutchins of Shawnee; brother Richard Neptune of Lawton; and grandchildren, Christopher Toothaker, Sean Scrutchins and Evan Scrutchins.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Vivian Baptist Church, Eufaula.

A memorial service also will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church, Shawnee, with the Rev. Paul Calmes and the Rev. William Mitchell officiating.

Memorials may be made to Vivian Baptist Church, HC 63 Box 113, Eufaula, OK, 74432.

Services are under the direction of Walker Funeral Services of Shawnee.
