Steven Johnson
Steven Johnson, 42, died Wednesday at his home in Chandler.
Johnson was born July 26, 1961, in Houston, Texas, to Harvey and Marva Johnson. He graduated from Central High School in the Central High community.
He married Leesa Dayton on Aug. 17, 1984, in Marlow.
For five years, he served as the quality control manager for Apac of Oklahoma.
He is survived by his wife, Leesa, of the home; three children, Kasie Johnson and Tami Johnson, of the home, and Justin Bradley and wife Tiffany of Shawnee; his parents, of Marlow; and a brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Sherrie Johnson of Cache.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the Marlow Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Price officiating.
Donations may be made to the Oklahoma Cancer Society, 4323 N.W. 63rd, Suite 110, Oklahoma City, Okla., 73116.
Arrangements are under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.
Virginia Kathleen Henderson
Virginia Kathleen Henderson, 60, of Shawnee died Sunday at an Oklahoma City hospital.
She was born Aug. 3, 1941, to Ervin and Kathryn Hembree.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ervin Hembree.
Survivors include her mother, Kathryn Hembree of Shawnee; two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Melissa Henderson of Bridge City, Texas, and Craig and Rhonda Henderson of Little Thetford, England; a daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Sean Gilpin of Shawnee; and a grandson, Aaron Gilpin of Shawnee.
Private services will be held.
Gladys Lea Martin
Gladys Lea "Memmy" Martin, 96, Seminole, died Monday at a Seminole hospital.
The daughter of John Gregg and Evelyn Rosa (Johnson) Gregg was born Dec. 18, 1904, in Center Point, Ark.
In 1942, she went to California, where she began working at San Bernardino Air Force Base. She later transferred to Tinker Air Force Base in Midwest City. She lived in Ada for many years.
On Feb. 17, 1925, she and Robert Lee Underwood were married.
She married Wesley Simpson Martin on Aug. 17, 1957, in Lovington, N.M. He preceded her in death Aug. 20, 1972.
Mrs. Martin moved to Pioneer Nursing Home on Oct. 23, 1976. Mrs. Martin was also a member of First Assembly of God Church in Seminole.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Simpson Martin; parents; daughter, Jacqueline Michelle Underwood; three brothers, N.N. Gregg; H.H. Gregg, and Rocky Gregg, and her sister, Michelle Davis.
Survivors include her daughter, Margie Lea Reed of Ada; granddaughters, Janette Kay Jackson of Seminole, and Jacqueline Marie Sesso of Corpus Christi, Texas; three great-grandsons; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel, Seminole. The Rev. Harold Turner will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Seminole.
Mildred Edna Stewart
Mildred Edna Stewart died Tuesday in her Shawnee home at the age of 85.
She was born July 13, 1915, in Shawnee, the daughter of Homer Lee and Ethel Viola (Gladwill) Swink. She graduated from Shawnee High School.
Mrs. Stewart worked for the city of Beaumont, Texas, in the accounting department. She lived in Beaumont for 29 years before returning to the Shawnee area.
In 1940, she and Joseph Melvin Stewart were married.
She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
Preceding her in death were her husband; her parents; a daughter, Judy McKinley; a brother, Bob Swink; and a sister, Margaret Allen.
Survivors include her grandson and his wife, Todd and Krissy McKinley of Beaumont; two granddaughters, Kristen McKinley of Shawnee and Jerry Swink of Padre Island, Texas; two brothers, Harold Swink and Jack Swink, both of Shawnee; and two sisters, Helen Fortune of Vernon, Texas, and Gladys Harmon of Shawnee.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Rusty Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.
Allice Vannoy
Allice Vannoy, 59, Newalla, died Sunday.
The daughter of Oscar and Delvagene (Percival) Caperton was born March 4, 1942, in Oklahoma City.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Lisle and Connie Jones of Del City; her mother of Midwest City; sister and brother-in-law, Allana and John George of Midwest City; and her grandchildren, William and Galen Jones.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Dale Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service, Harrah.
Memorials may be made to The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, 120 N. Robinson, Oklahoma City.
Jonas Beene
Jonas "Junior" Beene, 59, Wanette, died Monday in Wanette.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Tribbey Baptist Church. The Rev. Jimmy Adams will officiate. Burial will be in Tribbey. Arrangements and other information is under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.
Roy L. Coffman
Roy L. "Bid" Coffman of Seminole died Monday at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was 81.
Coffman was born April 28, 1920, in Cleveland, Okla., to Joseph H. and Etta Bell (Andrews) Coffman. He married Felicia "Peggy" Prunty on Sept. 25, 1946, in Denison, Texas.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and was a pipeline welder for more than 40 years.
He was a member of United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Jeri Cook, Oklahoma City; a son and daughter-in-law, Roy L. and Patti Coffman, Omaha, Neb.; stepson and his wife, Charles and Carole Jenkins, Madill; five grandchildren, Steven Jenkins, Chip Jenkins, Amy Heldt, Shane Coffman, Jed Cook; four great-grandchildren, Cassie Jenkins, Courtney Jenkins, Samuel Heldt and Noah Heldt; and a brother, Victor Coffman, Stroud.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Coffman, on March 4, 2001, his parents and two sisters.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Strothers Chapel with the Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. Burial will be in Mapel Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Mary N. Austin
Mary N. Austin, 95, died Tuesday in her Shawnee home.
She was born Jan. 15, 1906, in Columbia, Tenn., the daughter of James Henry and Effie C. (Benderman) Morgan. She moved to Shawnee in 1924.
Mrs. Austin was employed at Tinker Air Force Base until retirement. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
Preceding her in death were her husband, George William Austin, and four sons, James William Austin, Howard A. Austin, Bobby Glenn Austin and Dick F. Austin.
Survivors include two daughters, Georgia Belle Austin and Janet K. Austin, both of Shawnee, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including granddaughter and her husband, Debbie and Lee Brown of Shawnee and great-grandson James A. Brown of Shawnee.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Resthaven Memorial Park. The Rev. Leroy Kerbo will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
Keith Wayne Elliott
Keith Wayne Elliott of Harrah died Saturday. He was 38.
He was born May 25, 1962, in Blackwell, the son of Allen and Faye (Lindsey) Elliott.
Survivors include his parents of Harrah; two sons, Chris Elliott and Terry Fann, both of Dodge City, Kan.; a brother, Greg Elliott of Harrah; his grandmother, Lucille Scrimsher of Deer Creek; and best friend, Brenda Kelphine of Midwest City.
A graveside service will be 10 a.m. today at Memory Lane Cemetery, Harrah. Arrangements are under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service.
Betty Jean Smith
Longtime area resident Betty Jean Smith, Shawnee, died Thursday at the age of 74.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at First Church of God with Michael Smith officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery. Family will receive visitors from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh.
She was born Aug. 11, 1924, in Tulsa to Harold and Anna (Queen) Tait. She was reared in Tulsa and Shawnee and had lived in Shawnee since 1960. She had been a member of Gordon Cooper Church of God for 40 years.
She was a 1943 graduate of Shawnee High School and married Charles R. Smith in Shawnee on Sept. 10, 1944. They founded the Golden Rule Home and she also was a homemaker, Tupperware manager, co-owner of S&S Pottery and the Knots, Pots and Whats Shoppe.
Preceding her in death were her husband in 1989; two sons, Charles Milton Smith and Derrill Gene Smith Sr.; great-grandson, Dylon Cole Stacy; her parents, Harold Tait and Anna and J.M. Mason, the father who raised her.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Merrill and Bula Smith, Ruby Smith, David Smith, Chuck and Kathy Smith, all of Shawnee; daughters and sons-in-law, Anna and Charles Jantz, Sapulpa; Teressa "Terri" and John Madden, Bristow; Betty and James Nicholson, Shawnee; sister, Bernice Raynor, White Bluff, Tenn.; sisters-in-law, Ida May Weir Bocock, Iva Fay Smith, both of Shawnee; 20 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and many others.

Carol Harjo Hawkins
Carol Harjo Hawkins, Ada, died Wednesday in Oklahoma City at the age of 42.
Wake was Friday at Smith Funeral Home of Ada with the Rev. Jeff Frazier officiating.
Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Snake Creek Baptist Church north of Seminole. The Rev. Woody Fields and the Rev. Bill Hobia will officiate. Burial will be at the Cornelius family cemeteryat Seminole.
She was born March 13, 1956, at Claremore, the daughter of Edmond Harjo and Lucy Cornelius. She was a lifelong resident of the Ada area and a member of Spring Baptist Church. She graduated from Byng High School and attended East Central University.
She married Jimmy R. Hawkins Sept. 15, 1978, at Sasakwa and was a tutor at Byng Elementary School.
Her mother preceded her in death.
Surviving are her husband, Jimmy R. Hawkins, of the home; five sons, Jimmy E. Hawkins, Toby Hawkins, Micah Hawkins, Casey Hawkins and Kelly Hawkins; a daughter, Dereka Hawkins; a brother, Clifford Harjo; and her father, Edmond Harjo.
