Elizabeth Osborne

McLoud resident Elizabeth Osborne died Sunday at a McLoud nursing home. She was 80.

She was born Nov. 24, 1919, in Trousdale to Mr. and Mrs. William Redwine.

She married Elbert Osborne in September 1935 in Sulphur.

Mrs. Osborne attended Trousdale schools. She was a homemaker and seamstress and a member of the First Baptist Church of McLoud. She lived in McLoud since 1956.

Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, Earl Osborne, McLoud, and David and Suzie Osborne, Newalla; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Tommy Fitzgerald, Ralch Springs, Texas; daughters-in-law, Lena Osborne, Carmichael, Calif., and Vera Osborne, Nevada; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Ilene Roberson, Arroyo Grande, Calif.; and numerous friends and relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Osborne, and son, Charles Osborne.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of McLoud with Pastor Mike Taylor and Chaplain Bill Derrick officiating. Burial will be at Dale Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Bette L. Haskins

Bette L. Haskins died March 26 in Wendell, N.C. She was born Nov. 25, 1933, in Enid.

She graduated from Enid High School and obtained her business degree at the University of Oklahoma. While at OU, she was a charter member and president of Kappa Delta sorority, honorary cadet colonel for the ROTC, Big Woman on Campus and the first woman to receive the Business Department Scholastic Key.

Haskins continued her education, receiving a masters in counseling at Phillips University and earning a doctorate in education administration at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. She was the director of American Indian Studies at Harvard.

A member of the World Archaeological Congress, she presented in New Delhi, India, Barquestimeto, Venezuela and Cape Town, South Africa. She was an education specialist with the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs '93-99.

She founded the Heart of the American Indian Women, an organization for Native American women leaders.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Anna Lee and Darrell E. McGugin.

Survivors include three children, Russ Braden Haskins, Kelly Ann Haskins and Kyle Branden Haskins; four siblings, Darrell L. Galpin, Deleta J. Meador, D. Sam McGugin and Joyce A. Wright and three grandsons, Braden Michael Haskins, Cole Haskins and Huston Moore.

Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at 32405 West Hardesty Road, Shawnee. The Rev. Charles Little will officiate.

She requested donations to the Heart of the American Indian Women's Network, P.O. Box 1202, Ada, Okla. 74820.

Olive Stark

Olive Stark of Shawnee died Sunday. She was 95.

She was born Jan. 8, 1905, in Asher. She was the daughter of P.H. and Eva (Sumner) Cooper.

Mrs. Stark was a homemaker.

She married Charlie Stark on Dec. 7, 1923, in Tecumseh. He preceded her in death in 1995.

She was a member of the Avoca Church of Christ. She lived around the Asher and Wanette area most of her life, moved to Shawnee in 1988.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Charlie; son, Vernon Stark; five grandchildren, one brother and three sisters.

Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Ed Stark, Asher; Bob and Clara Stark, Clinton, Ohio; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Maxine and Bill Walker, Mt. Aukum, Calif.; Irene and Al Garritano, Dayton, Fla.; Lois and Lee Henry, Norman; Erma and Johnny Slover, Shawnee; Freda Stacy, N. Glen, Colo.; one daughter-in-law, Louise Stark, Tecumseh; 25 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Flora Overturf, Wanette, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Avoca Church of Christ with the Rev. Red Barnes officiating. Burial will be at Wanette Cemetery, under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Almeda Bernice Torbett

Almeda "Pat" Bernice Torbett of Shawnee died Monday at a local nursing home. She was 79.

She was born Feb. 8, 1921, in Milburn. She was the daughter of John and Dora Mae Breshears.

She owned and operated Humpty Dumpty Playhouse Day Care Center in Shawnee and McLoud. She married Bill Hugh Torbett in 1947, in Paris, Texas.

She had lived in Shawnee for 38 years. She was a foster parent for many years and Mother of the Year in 1973.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Rachel Shiew; two brothers, Dan Breshears and Arthur McDuffey; granddaughter, Kari Dowdy Sikes.

Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Jan and Joe Clifton, Norman; Shirley and Jim McLeod, Shawnee; Ronnie and Johnny Branscum, Durant; Lori and Trey Gilbert, Tecumseh; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bill Jr. and Cathy Torbett, Shawnee; Dan and Janice Torbett, Lawton; David and Julie Torbett, North Carolina; sister and brother-in-law, Lucy and Horace Moore of Texas; brother, Bill McDuffey of Antlers; 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bob Anderston officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery.

Evelena Rogers

Longtime Prague resident Evelena Rogers died Sunday in Prague. She was 76.

Mrs. Rogers was born Jan. 7, 1924, in Avant to Forster Wheler and Carrie Bell (Shuffield) Hatmaker. She was a homemaker and a Methodist.

Survivors include two brothers, John Hatmaker, Oklahoma City; Winford Hatmaker, Prague; two sisters, Alva Wallace, Prague; Pearl Silva, California; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and one sister.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Prague Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague with Tim Emmons officiating.

Walker Butts

Walker Butts, 70, Shawnee, died Tuesday in Oklahoma City.

He was born Sept. 16, 1930, in Boynton, Okla., the son of S.U. and Maggie (Day) Butts. He was a 1949 graduate of Coweta High School and earned his bachelor's degree from OBU.

While attending OBU, he met Mary Jane Wiens at Immanuel Baptist Church. They were married Feb. 10, 1956, at that church.

Butts, who served with the U.S. Army, retired from the Army Reserve 95th Division as sergeant major.

He was a retired teacher who had taught history at Shawnee High School. He and his wife had owned and operated Mary Jane's Flowers in Shawnee since 1971.

Butts had lived in Shawnee since 1954.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two sisters and one brother.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; his daughter, Connie Butts of Oklahoma City; a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Carol Butts of Newalla; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Wallace and Marceline Butts of Broken Arrow and John and Ava Butts of Tulsa, and Margaret Wiens of Moore; and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Immanuel Baptist Church. The Rev. Jeff Moore will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.

Mary Jane Harris

Mary Jane Harris, 64, Seminole, died Tuesday at her home.

The lifelong Seminole resident was born Nov. 2, 1936, the daughter of Leroy and Myra Lee (Evans) Faltermier.

On March 28, 1954, she and Orthel Harris were married in Maud.

Mrs. Harris, a homemaker, attended First Assembly of God Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; stepmother, Donnie Faltermier; one brother, David Faltermier, and one great-granddaughter, Kaliece LeeAnn Brinsfield.

Survivors include her husband, of the home; three sons, Orthel Harris Jr., Bobby Harris and Gerald Dean Harris, all of Seminole; a daughter, Sharon Ghalamdanchi of Houston, Texas; a brother, Leroy Faltermier Jr. of Gainesville, Texas; three sisters, Rose Ellen Bohannon of Wewoka and April Morrison and Carolyn Hill, both of Seminole; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The casket will remain open until service time. It will not be reopened.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Assembly of God Church. The Rev. Doyle Long will officiate. Burial will be in Little Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Semaria (Hulbutta) Warledo Grass

Semaria (Hulbutta) Warledo Grass, 54, Shawnee, died Tuesday in an Oklahoma City hospital.

She was born April 2, 1947, in Seminole County. The daughter of Johnson and Sally Sarah (Tiger) Hulbutta attended school in Altus. She retired from Colonial Estates as a certified nurses' aide.

She was married to Gary Grass.

Mrs. Grass was a member of Sand Creek Eufaula Baptist Church. She had lived in Shawnee for the past 15 years.

Preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers, Roman and Raymond Hulbutta.

Survivors include her husband, of Shawnee; a son, Thomas Hulbutta of Shawnee; five brothers, Ramsey Hulbutta and Johnny Hulbutta, both of Wewoka; Paul James Hulbutta of Shawnee; Ronnie Hulbutta of Holdenville, and Jimsey Hulbutta of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Nancy Sue Bear of Wewoka, and Nelsie Yarger of Shawnee; two grandchildren, Chavez Jones and Shyla Crider, and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be 7 p.m. today at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Malcom Tiger and the Rev. Houston Tiger will officiate.

A wake service will be 7 p.m. Friday at her Shawnee home.

A service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in her Shawnee home. Burial will follow at Johnson Cemetery.

Larry Joel Mitchell

Former Bethel Acres resident Larry Joel Mitchell died April 30 in Wyoming. He was 53.

The son of William and Nettie Mitchell was born Dec. 24, 1947, in Shawnee. He attended Bethel schools.

Mitchell served in the Army and had worked several jobs before retiring from Mobil Chemical.

Preceding him in death were his parents, sister, Mary Elizabeth Mitchell, and brother, Joe Mitchell.

Survivors include his wife, Clara; a daughter, Angela Mitchell; a stepson, Jay Sorrell; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Billie and Jim Fugett; Kay Richmond, and Wanda Lowe, four brothers and sisters-in-law, Vernon and Rosalee Blair; Wilbur Lee and Virginia Blair; Michael Terry and Malinda Mitchell, and Ronnie and Janice Mitchell, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Private memorial services were already held.

Kenneth Stanley Freeman

Kenneth Stanley Freeman, McLoud died Tuesday at the age of 44.

He was born Nov. 7, 1956, in Oklahoma City, the son of Kenneth Lee and Viola Francis (Morrisett) Freeman.

He was an electronics technician at Tinker Air Force Base, retiring in 1999.

Survivors include his wife, Kimberly of McLoud; mother, Viola Gibson of Oklahoma City; grandmother, Loutisha Morrisett of Oklahoma City; a son, Joshua Freeman of McLoud; a daughter Sarah Freeman of McLoud; a brother, Roger D. Freeman of Massachusetts; a sister, Shirley Freeman of Oklahoma City; one nephew, and two nieces.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel in Oklahoma City. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Oklahoma City.
