Barbara Kay Goodman

Lifelong Shawnee resident Barbara Kay Goodman died Friday at her home. She was 46.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Resthaven Funeral Chapel with Ben Glover officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Mrs. Goodman was born June 26, 1952, in Shawnee to Warren C. Van Antwerp and Claudia Glover Van Antwerp. She married W. Edgar Goodman on June 11, 1976.

She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1971 and was a childcare provider. She was a member of Lakeview Church of Christ.

Survivors include her parents, Warren and Claudia Van Antwerp, Shawnee; husband, W. Edgar Goodman, Shawnee; daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Mario Andreani, Shawnee; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary and Beverly Van Antwerp, Fullton, Texas; Steve and Donna Van Antwerp, Jim and Kimi Van Antwerp, all of Shawnee; brother, Mike Van Antwerp, Shawnee; sisters and brothers-in-law, Karen and Thurston Munn, Cheryl and Noel Miller, Terri and Rob Robison, all of Shawnee; Jan and David Shults, Moore; mother-in-law, Mary T. (Goodman) Wallace, Shawnee; brother-in-law, Warren D. Goodman Jr., Las Cruces, N.M.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Ronnie Gene Van Antwerp.

Memorials may be made to the Mid-First Bank in Shawnee on Harrison, P.O. Box 1909, Shawnee, 74802.

Rebecca Sue Cox

Shawnee resident Rebecca Sue Cox died Thursday at a local hospital. She was 44.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Temple Baptist Church with Darrell Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Dale Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

She was born Sept. 3, 1954, in Shawnee to Alva Lee and Ramona (Stubbs) Cox. She graduated from McLoud High School and Seminole State College.

She was employed as a scanning technician at Shawnee Medical Center Clinic. She was involved in Challengers League for Disabled Children and was president and head coach of the Challengers T-ball league. She was a member of the Light House Church of Galilee.

Survivors include her son, Russell Cox, Shawnee; sisters and brothers-in-law, Tina and Carl Holmes, Patricia and Steve Kramer, all of Shawnee; sisters, Vicki Lower and Candy Cox, both of Shawnee; brother, Bobby David Cox, Shawnee; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorials may be made to Challengers League for Disabled Children at P.O. Box 3108, Shawnee, Okla. 74802-3108.

George Allen Warthen

Longtime area resident George Allen Warthen of Shawnee died Saturday at a local hospital. He was 82.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. C.C. Atchley officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

George Allen Warthen was born Nov. 2, 1916, in Ardmore to Joseph S. and Emma (Lewis) Warthen. He attended Macomb Schools and, on Jan. 13, 1935, he married Laura Ellen Francis in Fort Cobb.

He had served as an automotive mechanic in the headquarters and service company of the 851st Engineer Aviation Battalion in the European Theater of Operations during World War II from June 1943 to November 1945.

Warthen was employed by the Harvey Gibson Implement Co. of Carnegie. After moving to Shawnee in 1952, he worked for Shawnee Motor Supply before purchasing the Park Street Garage.

After retiring from his work as a mechanic, he worked at The Shawnee News-Star for 13 years. He was a longtime member of Emmanuel Pentecostal Holiness Church and had served as an umpire for Pony Baseball Leagues in Shawnee.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Laura; two brothers and one sister.

Survivors include two daughters, Rhonda Montgomery, Oklahoma City, and Cecilia Rigg, Shawnee; grandchildren and their spouses, Steven and Melissa Montgomery, Jerry Rigg and Kyle Ueltzen, all of Shawnee, Allen Montgomery, Dena Montgomery and Robert Crowder, all of the home, and Jamie and Bart Jackson, Konawa; great-grandchildren, Cody Montgomery, Stephany Montgomery, Alexandria Montgomery, Cassandra Montgomery, Tyler Montgomery, Daniel Montgomery, Joel Rigg, Luis "Junior" Contreras and Devin Hill; sister-in-law, Descygne Shubert, and nephew, Bob Francis.

Orville H. Markley

Longtime area resident Orville H. Markley died Monday at his Shawnee residence. He was 86.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Goolsbay officiating. Burial will be at Little Cemetery near Seminole.

Orville H. Markley was born Jan. 15, 1913, in Maramec, Okla., the son of Bert Markley and Eliza Opal Wells Markley. He attended public schools at Yale, where he lived until he was 15. He lived in California until he was 18 and had lived in the Seminole, Prague and Shawnee area since that time.

He married Thora Geneva Eberius in Atoka on Dec. 23, 1933. He had been an oil field worker for 22 years and retired from Tinker Air Force Base as a federal employee in May 1978. He attended the Nazarene church.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife and two sons.

Surviving are his sister-in-law, Donnie Work, Edmond; cousin, Ruth Dodd, Florida, and special friends, Richard and Linn Nowlin, Shawnee.

Blanche Rikard

Lifelong Lincoln County resident Blanche Rikard died Sunday in Oklahoma City at the age of 89.

She was born in Payson on May 30, 1909, the daughter of William and Tennie (Harris) Tacker. She had lived in Lincoln County all her life and was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. She married C.J. Rikard near Chandler in 1930.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one sister.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Merry Lynn and Paul Thompson, Oklahoma City; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Joel and Angla Thompson, Oklahoma City; sister, Leoda Campbell, Chandler, and many other relatives.

Memorial will be 6 p.m. Wednesday at Chandler Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. David Pinard will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Chandler.

Charles Howard Dickerson

Davenport resident Charles Howard Dickerson died Saturday in Stroud. He was 58.

Dickerson was born Sept. 25, 1940, in Seminole to Charles L. and Augusta (Parks) Dickerson Jr. He served in the United States Air Force and was a businessman and heavy equipment operator. He attended the First Christian Church of Stroud.

Survivors include his daughter, Shelly Ingraham, Stroud; mother, Augusta Dickerson, Davenport; sister, Jo Norman, Davenport; and two granddaughters, Holly Ingraham and Annie Dickerson, both of Stroud.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Dickerson Jr., on May 30, 1998.

Private family services will be held under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Stroud.

Jacquita J. Stephen

Jacquita J. Stephen of Shawnee died Sunday at the age of 55.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Rock Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Reed Lynn officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh. The casket will remain open until service time and will not be reopened following the service.

She was born Nov. 21, 1943, at Maud, the daughter of Vance and Nelda (Kindle) Potter. She was reared in Tecumseh and attended Tecumseh Schools. She was a 1961 graduate of Tecumseh High School. She married Henry C. Stephen III in July 1963 and they owned and operated Stephen Oil Co.

She had lived in Shawnee since 1972 and was a member of Rock Creek Baptist Church and the Altrusa Club.

Preceding her in death were her husband in 1983, her parents and close friend, Larry Treat.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Kraig K. and Carol Stephen, Shawnee; daughter and son-in-law, Tiffany and Shane Marshall, Shawnee; grandson, Hunter Stephen, Shawnee; and many other relatives.

Jimmy L. Thompson

Former McLoud resident Jimmy L. Thompson of Depew, Okla., died Sunday in Stroud. He was 42.

He was born Jan. 30, 1956, in Wichita, Kan., the son of Dorwin and Bobby (Shook) Thompson. He married Teresa Livezey on Jan. 30, 1996, in Okmulgee. He moved from McLoud to Depew four years ago.

His father preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife, Teresa, of the home; daughters, Aimee Thompson, Oklahoma City, and Darlene Bristcoe, Bethany; mother, Bobby Thompson, McLoud; brothers, Bobby Thompson, Newalla; Tommy Thompson, Littleton, Colo., three grandchildren and many other relatives.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Oakdale Cemetery in Depew with the Rev. Quint Miller officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Stroud.

Donald W. Askins

Shawnee resident Donald W. Askins died Wednesday in a local hospital. He was 64.

Askins was born July 5, 1935, near Duncan, the son of Floyd H. and Stella O. (Burdett) Askins.

He graduated from Duncan High School in 1953, and attended the University of Oklahoma from 1953 to 1955. He earned a bachelor's degree in speech, drama and radio from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1957.

He married Peggy Joyce Corley on Aug. 24, 1957, in Shawnee.

Askins also attended the Southwest Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, from 1957 to 1960, and pastored at Pilgrim's Rest Missionary Church in Fame, Okla.

He received a secondary teaching certificate from OBU. Askins taught sophomore English and was the forensics coach at Shawnee High School in 1965. He also worked for KGFF radio in Shawnee.

He began working for the Employment Security Commission in 1965, and retired in 1990 as claims manager. Askins continued to work at KGFF on a part-time basis until 1997.

Askins became a master Mason in 1986, in Composite Lodge No. 107 in Shawnee. He became a perpetual member in 1986. He served as worshipful master in 1991. Askins served as secretary of Masonic district No. 29 from 1991 to 1994, and had served as secretary of his lodge since 1992.

He became a member of the Shawnee York Rite Bodies in 1990, and was a perpetual member.

He served Shawnee chapter No. 32, RAM, as high priest in 1993, Shawnee council No. 26, CM, as illustrious master in 1992, and Shawnee commandery No. 36, KT, as eminent commander in 1993.

Askins was a life sponsor of the Knight Templar Eye Foundation. He served with the grand council, CM, of Oklahoma as grand sentinel from 1993 to 1994, and as grand champlain from 1994 to 1995.

In the grand chapter, Royal Arch Masons of Oklahoma, he was elected grand captain of the host, 1995. Askins was selected as grand scribe in 1996, grand king in 1997, and was installed as Most Excellent Grand High Priest in 1998.

He was active in Scottish Rite Masonry in McAlester Consistory, and a member of the 22nd, 24th and 30th degree teams and the Royal Order of the Ducks.

Other Masonic affiliations include: Oklahoma Priory No. 9, Knights of the York Cross of Honor, Order of High Priesthood, Order of the Sword and Trowel, Oklahoma Past Commanders Association and Oklahoma York Rite College No. 75,

He was a charter member of Joseph S. Lewis Council No. 66, Knight Masons and Prince of Peace Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine and the recipient of the DeMolay Legion of Honor in 1999.

He was a trustee of the Shawnee Masonic Temple Association, served for several years as secretary/treasurer of the association, and was building manager of the Shawnee Masonic Temple.

He also served as a Cub Scout Leader, Boy Scout Leader and was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce.

Askins was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, where he was an associate pastor and served as Sunday school superintendent of the college class. He also taught Sunday school for the 5-year-old and 6-year-old class at Wallace Avenue Baptist Church. He was a member of Liberty Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Askins, Shawnee; son and daughter-in-law, Michael David and Karen Askins, Shawnee; daughter, Anna Kathleen Askins, Shawnee; mother, Stella Burdett Askins, Duncan; three grandchildren, Thomas Connor Askins, Timothy Dylan Askins and Anthony John Askins; and many other relatives.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, at Liberty Baptist Church, with Bill Matthews and Phil Thompson officiating.

Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park, under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel in Shawnee.

Moleta Bland

Mounds resident Moleta Bland died Monday in Tulsa. She was 83.

Mrs. Bland was born Jan. 21, 1916, in Piqua, Ohio to Myron and Ethel (Pope) Bowman. She married Jack Bland Sr. on Feb. 10, 1943, in Siloam Springs, Ark.

She retired from the credit department at Dillard's Department Store. She was a longtime resident of the Tulsa area and was a member of Osage Hill Christian Church, Tulsa.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Mayra and John Wood, Mounds; daughter, Jacqueline Hopkins, Houston, Texas; granddaughter, Erica Demmitt, Mounds; and grandchildren, Mike, Jack and Nicole.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, on Jan. 9, 1995; and one brother.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Resthaven Funeral Home with the Rev. Hershel Martin officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.
