Viva Ludie (Alexander) Rippetoe

Viva Ludie (Alexander) Rippetoe, 87, died Tuesday in Denver, Colo.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery.

Ralph Robert Pate

Ralph Robert Pate of Shawnee died Tuesday at a local nursing home. He was 85.

He was born June 13, 1914, in Centralia, Ill. He was the son of Ralph Richard Pate and Mabel Inez Pate.

Pate graduated from Mt. Vernon, Ill. High School. He was a retired lieutenant colonel, U.S. Army with 26 years of service.

He was married on Feb. 25, 1939, in Henderson, Ky., to Martha Louise Simmons.

He worked as a correctional officer for the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Atlanta and Montgomery, Ala., until 1967. He was a real estate agent in Florida.

His military career took him to Central and South America, South Pacific, Dutch West Indies, Maratai and the Philippines and Florida.

He was a member of the Temple Baptist Church of Shawnee. He lived in Shawnee for 19 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a half brother, Richard; three brothers, John, killed in the battle of Okinawa; Charles, killed in the battle of Tarawa and Francis, retired from the Salvation Army.

Survivors include his wife Louise Pate of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Lois Pate of Las Vegas, Nev.; Charles and Sharon Pate of Pensacola, Fla.; three grandsons, Brian Pate of Camp Pendleton, Calif.; Robert Pate of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Scott Tassani of Michigan; five granddaughters, Cindy Grzelak of Phoenix, Ariz.; Mary Pate of Las Vegas, Nev.; Susan Pate of Salt Lake City, Utah; Wendy Raphael of Kaawa, Hawaii, and Alisa Parenti of Syracuse, N.Y.; three great-grandsons and four great-granddaughters.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Craig officiating under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

The casket will remain open until service time, but will not be opened afterwards.

Carlyle Vonne Millikan

Shawnee resident Carlyle "C.V." Vonne Millikan died Sunday in Shawnee. He was 76.

Millikan was born March 14, 1923, to Fred Earnest Millikan and Mary Viola (Hall) Millikan. He graduated from Beaver High School in 1941 and attended mechanic's school in Enid and technical training in Stillwater.

He retired from Tinker Air Force Base in 1990 after 30 years of service. He had worked for MacDonald Douglas in Tulsa and Oklahoma City and worked for Oklahoma Baptist University as a security guard.

He married Ella Mae Leisher on Nov. 8, 1942, in Oklahoma City. He was baptized in December 1935 at Mountain View Baptist Church in Beaver and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He lived at his home in Shawnee until 1998 when he moved to a local nursing home.

Survivors include his wife, Ella Mae Millikan, Shawnee; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and William Small, Santa Rosa, Calif.; four sisters, Patricia Huddleston, Logan; Rosemary Holloway, Arkhoma; Jean Cordell and Lavena Winfough, both of Havensville, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery, Beaver.

Memorials may be made to Feed the Children, Oklahoma City.

Margaret Louise (Margie) Hunter Denham

Margaret Louise (Margie) Hunter Denham died Tuesday in Tulsa. She was 78.

She was born June 6, 1921, in Shawnee. She was the daughter of the late Orville and Zora Hunter of Shawnee.

Mrs. Denham was reared and educated in Shawnee.

She married J.C. Denham, also of Shawnee. They moved to Tulsa in 1950.

Survivors include her husband, J.C. Denham of the home; two daughters, Carolyn Hill of Tulsa and Yvonne Wagoner of Broken Arrow; one brother, Orville "Buddy" Hunter Jr. of Kerrville, Texas; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Fairview Cemetery.

Grace (Cleere) Anderson

Shawnee resident Grace (Cleere) Anderson died Wednesday in a Shawnee nursing home. She was 70.

Mrs. Anderson was born on April 10, 1929, in Seminole, the daughter of George and Willie (Shields) Vaughn.

She was a graduate of Prairie Valley High School.

She married Howard Anderson on Oct. 13, 1988, in Shawnee.

Mrs. Anderson had retired from Tinker Air Force Base, and was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Shawnee.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Anderson; and her parents, George and Willie Vaughn.

Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl Jackson, Seminole; three brothers, Vernon Vaughn, Oklahoma City; Harrell Vaughn, Mustang; Mainard Vaughn, Bell Flower, Calif.; two grandchildren, Phillip and John Jackson; and two great-grandchildren, Emily and Kendra Jackson.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, in Little Cemetery, with the Rev. Mike Craig officiating.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Garland Spicer

Garland Spicer of Shawnee died Monday. He was 76.

He was born July 15, 1923, in Yale. He was the son of George Garland and Sylvia (Fryer) Spicer.

Spicer grew up in St. Louis and lived in Shawnee for 35 years.

He attended school at Saint Louis, Okla., graduating in 1941. He also attended Okmulgee Tech for three years.

He worked in the oil fields for 22 years. He also worked at Tinker Air Force Base for 28 years before retiring in 1986.

During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army as tank commander with the 6834th Rear-armament Regiment in Rone-Arno, North Apennines, Rhineland and Central Europe. While serving, he received the World War II victory ribbon, good conduct medal, EAME theatre ribbon and four bronze stars.

He was a member of the Highland Church of Christ and a lifetime member of the Shawnee VFW.

He was preceded in death by his father, two sisters and one brother.

Survivors include his mother Jewell Spicer of Saint Louis; son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Laurie Spicer of Tecumseh; daughters and sons-in-law, Dana and Larry Starns of Edmond and Becky and Johnny Hays of the home; four grandchildren, Bryan Spicer of Tecumseh, Angela DuBois of Guthrie, Kristie Costley of Weatherford, Texas, and Jason Starnes of Edmond; four great-grandchildren, brothers, Jim and Maxine Spicer of Seguin, Texas, Jerone and Cookie Spicer and Veldon and Sharon Spicer, all of Saint Louis; sisters, Delores and Tony Kowalski of Roscommon, Mich.; Claudetta and Jim Cobb of Lexington; Alice Martindale of Elk City; Linda and Leon Steffes of Bridge Creek; Jean and Bob Watson of Calvin and Patsy and Gary Strayhorn of Bowlegs; friends, James Leeder of Porum and Dale Knowles of Eugene, Ore., and numerous nieces, nephews and church family.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Highland Church of Christ with Bob Anderson and Doyle Loveland officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Helen Esther Barker

Helen Esther Barker died Tuesday in Pueblo, Colo. She was 91.

She was born in Arkansas City, Kan., July 17, 1908, to Thomas Herman and Anna (Carrie) Gladman. She had lived in Arkansas City, Kan., most of her life receiving her education there.

She married Lawrence Shuffer July 15, 1927. She married Howard T. Barker Sept. 22, 1954. He preceded her in death Aug. 13, 1991.

Mrs. Barker had been a clerk at Shanbs Grocery, Newman Bakery and Goods and Litwins over a period of several years. She had resided in Shawnee the last couple of years.

She was also a member of First Baptist Church in Arkansas City. Mrs. Barker was a past matron of Eastern Star No. 151 and past Worthy High Priestess of the White Shrine of Jerusalem.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and one grandchild.

Survivors are her four daughters, Arlene Bryce, Shawnee; Lucille Hinman and husband H.T., Pueblo, Colo.; Jeannette Carter and husband Jack, Everett, Wash.; Patricia Stafford and her husband Norman, Oklahoma City; one son, Eugene Shaffer, Park City, Kan.; 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home Chapel in Arkansas City, Kan. with Rev. Sherman Beasterfield officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church building fund in Arkansas City, Kan.

Kenneth Wayne Little Axe

Kenneth Wayne Little Axe, Mabank, Texas, died Wednesday in Mabank. He was 65.

Tribal rites will be this evening at the Little Axe Community Center. Burial will be Friday in Little Axe Cemetery, under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Ozelia Bright

Longtime Shawnee resident Ozelia Bright died Sunday at a local hospital. She was 92.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Central Church of Christ, 10th and Bell, with Bro. Rudy Doss officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Stringtown Cemetery under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Mrs. Bright was born Aug. 5, 1906, in Atoka County to B.J. and Ida (Harris) Johnson. She married Ben Bright in Atoka.

She moved to Shawnee from Atoka in 1969. She was baptized into the Church of Christ.

Survivors include her daughters, Betty Hurd, Mary Howard, Juanita Bright, all of Shawnee; daughters and sons-in-law, Marcella and Clifford Menifee, Spencer; Elma and Felix Thomas, Norwalk, Calif.; Cleo and James Adams, Los Angeles, Calif.; sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Wilma Bright, Riverside, Calif.; Bobby and Claudia Bright and Alvin and Marva Bright, all of Los Angeles, Calif.; 45 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, one stepdaughter, three brothers and three grandsons.

Sebern Lee Fowler

Lifelong Tecumseh resident Sebern Lee Fowler died Tuesday at a local hospital. He was 89.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Larry Goins officiating. Burial will be at Brown Cemetery.

Fowler was born Jan. 31, 1909, in Tecumseh to D.C. and Maggie Fowler. He married Louise Mitchell on Oct. 15, 1932.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Fowler, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Bobbie and Jim Baldwin, Modesto, Calif.; son and daughter-in-law, Howard and Gerona Fowler, Shawnee; four grandsons, Mark and Eric Baldwin, both of California; Kevin Baldwin, New York City, N.Y.; Rodney and Ami Fowler, Bethel; two granddaughters and their spouses, Pam and Mark Hatchard, Dallas, Texas; Kim and Rick Winsett, Dale; three great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Rose and Carl James, Shawnee; sister, Ella Mae Sparkman, Tecumseh; brother-in-law, Jim Sandefur, Tecumseh; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, May Carrie Lee Fowler; three brothers, Miles, Dewey and Eugene Fowler; six sisters, Lucille, Lena, Pat, Nona, Bonnie and Netta.
