Fayetta Kay Deatherage

Tecumseh resident Fayetta Kay Deatherage died Friday at a local hospital. She was 69.

She was born March 7, 1930, to Amos and Maggie Kaskaske in Harrah.

She married Fred Deatherage April 10, 1953.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; one son, Thomas Ray; and one brother, Charles Panther.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and Harold Fullbright, Tecumseh, Dolly Criner, Utah, Laverna White, McLoud, and Elois Kaskaske, California; sons and daughters-in-law, Victor Deatherage, of the home, Lonnie Johnson and Lee and Colleen Deatherage, all of Shawnee, Curtis and Janice Deatherage, Harold and Elizabeth Deatherage, Jimmy and Christine Deatherage, Randall and Angelia Deatherage, all of Tecumseh; numerous grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives, Mildred and Bill Aday, Gerald and Shirley Deatherage, all of Shawnee, Ralph and Virgie Deatherage, Texas, Jimmy Deatherage, Anita Sheppard and Bobby and Loretta Coats, all of Tecumseh.

A Kickapoo tribal burial took place Aug. 28 in McLoud.

Lee Roger Hurley

McLoud resident Lee Roger Hurley died Saturday at a local hospital. He was 64.

Hurley was born on March 16, 1935, in Chillicothe, Ohio, to Ralph and Eileen Hurley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Eileen Hurley.

Hurley is survived by a brother, Ronald Hurley, Florida; a sister, Joyce Hill, Hollywood, Calif.; three sons, Kort Hurley, North Carolina; Kurt and Krest Hurley, both of California.

Rogers will be cremated by the Oklahoma City Cremation Society.

A memorial service will be held later in the week.

Elza Nevada Dill

Shawnee resident Elza Nevada Dill died Friday in a local nursing home. She was 95.

Dill was born on March 1, 1904, in Violet Hill, Ark., the daughter of H.W. and Josie (Verner) Ross. She attended school in Oxford, Ark., Melbourne, Ark., and Mountain Home, Ark. before moving to Shawnee.

She married Norris R. Dill on Sept. 19, 1924, in Hardy, Ark. Dill was a schoolteacher in Myron, Ark., before she became a homemaker.

She was a Sunday school teacher at the First Church of God, a member of the American Association of Retired Persons, a member of Young at Heart and served as president, district leader and state historian for the Women's Missionary Society at the First Church of God.

Dill was preceded in death by her husband, Norris Dill; her parents, H.W. and Josie Ross; and two sisters, Opal Martin; Zella McCoy.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Darlita and Larry Moore, Willis, Texas; a son and daughter-in-law, Morris M. and Wilma Dill, Broken Arrow; three grandsons, Micheal Kevin Dill, Littleton, Colo.; Bryan Keith Dill, Atlanta, Ga.; Russell Nathan Moore, Conroe, Texas; a granddaughter and her husband, Karen Deniece and Lee Baker, Broken Arrow; two great-granddaughters, Laura and Erin Worel, Broken Arrow; and a nephew Marrenn H. McCoy.

Memorials may be made to the First Church of God or to Golden Rule Nursing Home.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the First Church of God with the Rev. Joe Faircloth, Pastor Tom Moore and Delbert Akin officiating.

Burial will be Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home of Shawnee.

Otis J. Fleming

Shawnee resident Otis J. Fleming died Sunday at his home. He was 72.

Fleming was born on May 19, 1927, in Prague, the son of William Otis and Viola (Large) Fleming. He attended Shawnee public schools and married Juanita Daley on Oct. 10, 1945, in Fort Smith, Ark.

He lived in San Jose, Calif., before returning to Shawnee in 1968. Fleming was a member of the Painters Union for 45 years and worked for Lupton Painting Company before his retirement. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Fleming was preceded in death by his parents, William and Viola Fleming; and a brother, W.K. Fleming.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita Fleming, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Mickey Fleming, Shawnee; a daughter, Rita Varaksin, Shawnee; a granddaughter and her husband, Crystle and Larry Trent, Macomb; a grandson and his wife, Jimmy and Jennifer Varaksin, Shawnee; two grandsons, Billy Varaksin, Shawnee; Ricky Fleming, Cambell, Calif.; a granddaughter-in-law, Candy Varaksin, Oklahoma City; a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Mary Fleming, Shawnee; a sister-in-law, Alice Fleming, LaHabra, Calif.; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jeanne and Howard King, Eufala; and five great-grandchildren, Amber, Jessica, Haley, Jimmy and Anthony.

Services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. George Lupton officiating.

Otis J. Fleming

Evelyn Marie Black of Ada died Saturday in Ada. She was 76.

She was born July 20, 1923, in Shawnee to John William Gottman and Lillian Inez Boone.

She married Eugene R. Black on Sept. 23, 1945, in Oklahoma City. He preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 1989.

Mrs. Black lived in Shawnee most of her life, moving to Ada in 1986. She was a 1941 graduate of Shawnee High School and a graduate of Neff Business College in Shawnee.

She was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church in Ada and Liberty Baptist Church in Shawnee.

She retired Oct. 18, 1983, from Tinker Air Force Base with 20 years of service as a clerk.

Survivors include her daughter, Judith Black, Ada; brother and sister-in-law, John Ray and Josephine Gottman, North Kansas City, Mo.; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Thomas Johnson, Shawnee; brother-in-law, Charlie Black, Shawnee; and sister-in-law, Mattie Parris.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at Union Hill Baptist Church in Ada with the Rev. James Stuart officiating. Interment service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Resthaven Cemetery in Shawnee with the Rev. Bill Matthews and the Rev. Phil Thompson officiating.

Daniel Lyon

Daniel "Danny" Lyon, 53, Harrah, died Wednesday.

He was born on Aug. 9, 1947, to Daniel and Mildred (Cox) Lyon in Tulsa.

He served in the Vietnam War from 1964 to 1966 for the U.S. Marine Corps.

Lyon was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include one daughter, Lena Hill of Texas, his mother of Harrah, two grandchildren, Rene Hill and Jesse Hill, both of Texas, and many other family members and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. today at Memory Lane Cemetery in Harrah. Arrangements are under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service.

Charlie Bray Jr.

Charlie "Pete" Bray Jr., died Thursday at his home in Chandler. He was 81.

He was born on June 5, 1919, in Sylvian, to Charlie Allen and Minnie Bertha (Fourt) Bray. He had been a resident of Chandler for 13 years and had previously lived north of Seminole.

A barber, Bray donated his services to nursing homes and the homebound. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion.

Bray was preceded in death by his first wife, Alga Lena Bray; his second wife, Elnora Bray; his daughter, Norma Jean; two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include one brother, Franklin Bray of Crane, Texas, six sisters and three brothers-in-law, Gladys Longan of Hobbs, N.M., Blanche Bethany of Velma, Ruby and L.O. Heald of Crane, Texas, Jessie and Jack Parsons of Davis, Betty VanMatre of Hobbs, N.M., Darlene and Bernus Underwood of Halls, Tenn., and his special friend Trudy Miles of Shawnee.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Little Cemetery. Eugene Warrenburg and Rusty Dawson will officiate under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague.

Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.

Richard Cook

Richard Cook, Shawnee, died Thursday in his home. He was 47.

He was born on Dec. 2, 1952, in Durango, Colo., to James and Maxine (Gammel) Cook. He attended Acme and Bethel schools.

He owned and operated Cook's Auto Clinic for more than 10 years. On Aug. 17, 1978, he married Kathy Benton.

During the Vietnam War, Cook served in the U.S. Army. He received the Purple Heart Award.

He was preceded in death by his father; brothers Larry Cook and Ben Cook; and his father-in-law, Grover Benton.

Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Teresa Dedmon of Shawnee; one son, Jesse Cook of Shawnee; two grandchildren, Zacheri Dedmon and Sydni Dedmon, both of Shawnee; his mother of Shawnee; two brothers, Hal Cook of Eufaula and Robert Cook of Shawnee; one sister, Claudine Wiginton of Shawnee; his mother-in-law, Kate Benton of Shawnee; three sisters-in-law, Judy Manwarin of Manford, Georgia Benton of Oklahoma City and Margaret Buckles of Shawnee; one brother-in-law, Hank Benton of Shawnee and several nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4323 N.W. 63rd Street, Suite 110, Oklahoma City, OK 73116-1513.

Earl M. Woods Jr.

Earl M. Woods Jr. of Shawnee died Friday at his home. He was 83.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Gaskill-Owens Chapel with the Rev. Richard Gay officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Linda Mae (Bender) Parsons

Former Seminole resident Linda Mae (Bender) Parsons, Eureka Springs, Ark., died Saturday in Shawnee. She was 56.

She was born Sept. 27, 1942, in Oklahoma City to Herman Bender and Hattie Mae (Montgomery) Bender.

She married Alfred Leroy Parsons on Feb. 20, 1959, in Seminole.

She worked as an Indian Heath contract supervisor and retired in 1996. She was a member of Twin Oaks Baptist Church, and served as Sunday school secretary for many years, and helped with the preservation of Strothers Chapel. She lived in Seminole most of her life.

She was preceded in death by her father, Herman Bender, on April 7, 1980, and a son, Randy, in 1986.

Surviving are her mother, Hattie Bender, Seminole; her husband, Alfred "Leroy" Parsons, of the home; her daughter, Janelle Moore, Shawnee; and her grandchildren, Twila Moore, Shawnee; and Heather Parsons, Moore.

Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Seminole with the Rev. George Harjoche; Rev. Bill Savati, Rev. Carl Whitfield, Rev. Steve Cline, and Dr. Kelvin Moesley officiating.

Burial is at Maple Grove Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Steven Michael Tulgetske

Steven Michael Tulgetske, Newalla, died Monday at a Midwest City hospital. He was 45.

He was born Jan. 11, 1954, in Flint, Mich., to Wilfred John Tulgetske and Joan Ella Santino. He married Mila Ledbetter, a former Seminole resident, May 24, 1997, in Seminole.

He worked as an assembly man at General Motors and was a member of the Choctaw Road Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his mother, Joan Ella Tulgetske, and one niece, Tonya Tulgetske.

Surviving are his wife, Mila (Ledbetter) Tulgetske of the home; his father, Wilfred Tulgetske, Newalla; a brother, Eric Tulgetske, Clio, Mich.; his sisters, Becky Southerland, Oklahoma City; Jane Pandit, San Antonio, Texas; and Kimberly Smith, Flint, Mich.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Ideal Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Kevin Russell, Ardmore, officiating.

Burial is at Maple Grove Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
