Ira Lee Sloan

Ira Lee Sloan of Shawnee died Monday at a local hospital. He was 82.

He was born Nov. 9, 1917, in Ione. He was the son of Vernie E. and Annie (Smith) Sloan.

He was a retired auto and truck mechanic. Sloan married Lora "Shorty" McCullar on Sept. 18, 1939, in Byars.

He married Ann Toney in 1985. Sloan was a charter member of Bible Temple Church in Shawnee.

He had lived in Shawnee since 1945. He owned several small businesses over the years and worked 20 years for International Harvester and was half owner of International Trucks of Shawnee.

In 1971, due to bad health, he retired.

He was preceded in death by wife, Lora Sloan in 1984; parents, four brothers, Raymond; J.W.; Julius and Cleo; one sister, Ola Burnett; one son, Frankie and two stepgrandsons, Robert Stewart and Ray Suluska.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Sloan, of the home; two sons and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Linda Sloan, Tecumseh; Glen and Sharon Sloan, Shawnee; five brothers, Alton of Shawnee; Alford and Chancy of Shawnee; Merle and Joetta of Holdenville; Donald and Edith of Okemah; Doyle of California; three sisters, Neoma Moore of Lawton; Irene and Chuck Bryant of California and Helen and Jerry Perkins of Oklahoma City; three grandsons, Bobby and Amy Sloan of Moore; Terry and Carrie Sloan of Shawnee and Kevin Sloan of Shawnee; two granddaughters, Angela and Mark Jefferies of Moore and Angela Matthew and family of Irving, Texas; one stepdaughter, Fonda Riggle of Sapulpa; several great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, other family members and friends.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bible Temple Church with the Rev. Guy Cagle officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery, under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Wilber Sanders

Wilber Sanders of Harrah died Monday. He was 91.

He was born to Augustus and Elsie (Stanley) Sanders Sept. 9, 1908, in Sullivan County, Ind.

Sanders was a minister. He wrote poetry and music.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley, of the home; three daughters, Wilma Summers; Karen White; Sue Konrath and many other family members and friends.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Summit Ridge Seventh Day Adventist Church, with burial at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, both located in Harrah. Arrangements directed by Asa Smith Funeral Service.

Alice Starr Schisler

Former Shawnee resident Alice Starr Schisler, 98, Tulsa, died Friday in Tulsa.

She was born Sept. 9,1901, in Sunnyside, Ga., to the late Harry Starr, Sr. and the late Pauline Rankin Starr. She was married to the late Jack Schisler.

Mrs. Schisler taught at various school systems. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and a Methodist.

Survivors include sisters, Gladys Campbell of Grove; Ione Aldrich of Seattle, Wash.; sister-in-law, Glendon Starr of Shawnee; numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were 1 p.m. Tuesday at Pinecrest Memorial Park with the Rev. George Warren officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home in Mena.

Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Children's Home in Tahlequah.

Julia V. Dinger

Julia V. Dinger died Sunday in Tecumseh. She was 93.

She was born in 1906 in Dustin, to Jonis and Murtle Vanlandingham. Her father died when she was 13 months old and she moved to Oklahoma City with her mother and brother.

She graduated from Oklahoma City Central High School. She married John C. Dinger on June 12, 1926, and together they lived in several cities in Oklahoma, New Mexico and Texas before returning to Tecumseh in 1942. Mrs. Dinger was a member of the Broadway Methodist Church and P.E.O.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother and her husband.

Survivors include her sons, John C. Dinger II and his wife, Penny, of Richardson, Texas; Donald R. Dinger of Shawnee; brother-in-law, Charles F. Dinger of Oklahoma City; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Broadway Baptist Church in Tecumseh. Services will be at 2 p.m. at Broadway Baptist Church.

Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or for Alzheimer's.

Arrangements are under the direction of Floral Haven Funeral Home, Broken Arrow.

Rick R. Paulk

Shawnee resident Rick R. "Nik" Paulk died Monday in Oklahoma City. He was 48.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Stephens of Twin Lakes Nazarene Church officiating. Burial will be in Wolf Cemetery. Further arrangements are pending and will be announced.

T.E. Conley Jr.

T.E. "Slug" Conley Jr. of Shawnee died Tuesday at a local hospital. He was 72.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with burial at Wanette Cemetery. Further arrangements will be announced by Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Nadine L. (Pickard) Haley

Nadine L. (Pickard) Haley of Tecumseh died Friday at an Oklahoma City hospital. She was 69.

She was born June 2, 1930, in Guymon. She was the daughter of Charley and Beulah Pickard.

Mrs. Haley graduated from Meeker High School and then attended beauty school in Shawnee. She worked as a beautician in Earlsboro and Tecumseh for 33 years.

She was married to Ed Haley for 15 years. She attended Assembly of God Church.

Mrs. Haley grew up in the Prague and Meeker area.

She was preceded in death by her husband and father.

Survivors include mother, Beulah M. Pickard, Tecumseh; sister and brother-in-law, Lurlene and Dan Rice, Shawnee; brother and sister-in-law, Everett and Freda Pickard, Shawnee; sister, Bertha Littleton, Tecumseh; several nieces and nephews, a special double cousin, Christine Basgall, Waynoka.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with Brother Robert Rider, assisted by David Hinton, officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Lillie Mae (Welborn) Loy

Lillie Mae (Welborn) Loy died Thursday in Vallejo, Calif. She was 80.

She was born Jan. 2, 1920, in Meeker. She married Clayton Loy on May 3, 1937, in Shawnee.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Loy; parents, Jim and Rosa Welborn; four brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Jo Ann and Jerry Hyslop, Cape Girardeau, Mo.; Myrna and Jack Webster, Benecia, Calif.; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one brother, J.W. Welborn, Meeker.

Viewing and visitation will be held after 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Prague.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at New Hope Cemetery in Meeker, under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague.

Nick Brakebill

Nick Brakebill of Midwest City died Thursday at a Midwest City nursing home. He was 53.

He was born Sept. 8, 1946, in Shawnee. He was the son of James R. Brakebill and Margie L. (Dyer) Brakebill.

He attended Shawnee Public Schools, graduating from Shawnee High School. Brakebill later attended Rose State College in Del City.

He also attended Okmulgee Tech, in Okmulgee.

He worked at Tinker Air Force Base for approximately 17 years, retiring from Tinker's Quality Control area. He also worked as a Greyhound dog trainer in Colorado, Texas and Florida.

He was married to Linda Smika in Shawnee in 1973. Brakebill grew up in Shawnee and left in 1974, moving to Del City.

He was preceded in death by his mother; his father and one aunt, Dorthea Strotkamp of Kansas.

Survivors include a son, Rick Brakebill, Shawnee; a daughter and son-in-law, Scarlett D. and Sean Talbot, Del City; brother and sister-in-law, Randy R. and Kathy Brakebill, Midwest City; granddaughter, Lauren L. Brakebill; grandson, Spencer M. Talbot; uncle, Jack Holtsclaw, South Carolina; three aunts, Ruth R. McGuffee, Del City; Jenni Johnson, Texas and Betty Clem, Shawnee and a number of cousins and good friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum with the Rev. Bill Matthews and Phil Thompson officiating, under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Memorial Program, Heartland Division, 4323 N.W. 63rd No. 110, Oklahoma City, Okla. 73116-1513.

Herbert G. Weaver

Herbert G. Weaver of Tecumseh died Friday. He was 94.

He was born Oct. 17, 1905, in Stonewall, Indian Territory. He was the son of W.A. and Elizabeth (Hatcher) Weaver.

He attended school in Pontotoc County and Wilburton. He was reared in Pontotoc County.

Weaver moved to Wilburton at the age of 14, and lived in McAlester for 15 years and Wichita, Kan., for 40 years before moving to Tecumseh in 1984. On March 29, 1935, he married Lila May Sangster in Ada.

Beginning at the age of 14 and until World War II, he went to school by day and worked as projectionist at his brother's movie theater at night. He also worked at the R&R Theater in McAlester.

From 1952 until his retirement he worked in aircraft electronics with Boeing, Beech and Cessna. During World War II he served in the Army infantry.

He was a member of the Highland Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Bill Weaver, Clarence Weaver and Ben Weaver, and two sisters, Dana Adkins and Elizabeth Pluckett.

Survivors include his wife, Lila Weaver of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Bill Gibbons, Pearland, Texas; granddaughters, Gail Davis and Terry Koontz; three great-grandchildren, Troy and Tara Davis and Christy Koontz; one great-great-granddaughter, Cassidy Shank and many friends and family.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Bob Anderson and O.J. "Junior" Mize officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery of McAlester, under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

W.R. Hill

Seminole resident W.R. "Buck" Hill died Friday at Mission Hill Memorial Hospital. He was 85.

Hill was born May 19, 1915, in Seminole County to William L. Hill and Lue Castleberry. He married Lucy Martin Hill on Feb. 3, 1940, in Okemah.

Hil graduated from Strother High School. He retired from Seminole County, then worked for Buck Nall's Dozer Service and Five "K" Ranch. He was a member of Church of Christ at Little.

Survivors include his wife, Lucy Martin Hill, of the home; sons and daughter-in-law, Bill Hill, Seminole; Sam and Susan Hill, Corpus Christi, Texas; mother of his granddaughters, Janice Hill, and granddaughters, Stephanie Elliott and Juliet Hill, all of Oklahoma City; two great-grandsons, Justin and Brandon Elliott; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Church of Christ of Little with Rusty Dawson and Eugene Warrenburg officiating. Burial will be in Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
