Robert Stewart

Robert "Gene" Stewart, 54, Shawnee, died Friday at an Oklahoma City hospital.

He was born Oct. 22, 1944, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to A.C. and Lucy Stewart. He was a 1962 Shawnee High School graduate and an Oklahoma Baptist University graduate.

He also graduated from Thunderbird School for Overseas Management. He married Rowhia Hefney on Dec. 26, 1972. He was a salesperson for oil field equipment companies and a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, in 1991, and his mother.

Survivors include his father, of the home; brother Don Stewart, Norway; two aunts; and many other relatives.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Tecumseh Cemetery, with DuWayne Colvin officiating.

Marie M. Presley Helling

Marie M. Presley Helling died Thursday at a Seminole nursing home. The Seminole resident was 85.

She was born on July 25, 1915, in Leonard, Ark. She was the daughter of Hugh and Lottie Williams.

On April 9, 1955, she married Cecil Helling in Seminole.

She worked for Pat's Cafe as a waitress and at United Market for several years. Mrs. Helling acquired a restaurant in 1947 and worked there for two or three years.

She attended Old Glory Assembly of God.

Preceding her in death were her first husband, Clifford Presley, and her parents.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Fred and Roberta Presley of Seminole and Gene and Mona Presley of Edmond; two sisters, Myrtle Chambers and Lena Chambers, both of Eloy, Ariz.; three brothers, Earl Williams of Stockton, Calif.; Carl Williams of Snowflake, Ariz., and James Williams of Dardanelle, Ark.; five grandchildren, Vickki Sells of San Angelo, Texas; Evelyn Presley of Copeville, Texas; Debra Presley of Denton, Texas; Nikki Presley of Los Angeles, Calif. and Tony Presley of Edmond; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Steve Cline will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Ethel Mae Kepler Lawson

Ethel Mae Kepler Lawson, 86, Tecumseh, died Friday in Tecumseh.

She was born in Haskell, Okla., Oct. 22, 1914, the daughter of John and Minnie (Curtis) Tennyson. She attended Haskell schools.

Following her marriage to Clarence Kepler, she lived in Sand Springs. After marrying John Lawson, she lived in Tulsa. For the past 10 years, she had lived between Tulsa and Tecumseh.

Mrs. Lawson worked as an inspector for the Boy Scouts of America in the Tulsa office. She was a member of Harvard and Admiral Church of Christ.

Preceding her in death were her husbands, her parents, 12 brothers and sisters and one son-in-law, Junior Hallum.

Survivors include one daughter, Nora Mae Hallum of the home; one granddaughter and her husband, Clarita and Johnnie Churchwell of Moore; three sisters-in-law, Lillie Collins of Tulsa; Gussie Barnett of Oklahoma City and Oda Kepler of Tecumseh; three great-grandchildren, Tabitha Ditzler, Kimmi Burnett and Timmi Churchwell; and six great-great-grandchildren, Michael Ditzler, Makala Burnett, Elizabeth Ditzler, Tyler Burnett, Destin Churchwell and Tristin Burnett.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. today at Haskell Cemetery. Ronnie Churchwell will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Cary Lee Gregory

Cary Lee Gregory of Newalla died Wednesday at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was 19.

He was born March 15, 1981, in Bakersfield, Calif. He was the son of Cary Lee Gregory Sr. and Lynn (Shatto) Gregory.

He attended Shawnee High School. Gregory was a former employee of TDK. He married Amanda Ayers on April 22, 2000, in Shawnee.

He moved to Shawnee at the age of 7 and later to Newalla.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Harold Shatto, grandfather, Steven Gregory and one brother, Dustin Harold Gregory.

Survivors include wife, Amanda Gregory of the home; one daughter, Hailey Gregory of the home; mother and stepfather, Lynn and Gregory Armstrong of Shawnee; father and stepmother, Cary and Rhonda Gregory of Oklahoma City; three brothers, Todd Wiley of Meeker; Micah Abbot of Shawnee and Kyle Gregory of Oklahoma City; grandmothers, Ruby Shatto of Shawnee; Dorothy Bailess of Shawnee and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Downtown Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Ron Baldridge officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery, under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Veva L. Hopkins

Longtime Chandler resident Veva L. Hopkins died Friday in Oklahoma City at the age of 92.

Services are pending under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Chandler.

Joshua C. JFK Evans

Joshua C. JFK Evans died Monday in Tulsa. He was 37.

He was born in Wewoka on Feb. 1, 1963, the son of Leslie Duane and Betsy (Franken) Evans.

He was married to Rhonda Beaver.

Preceding Evans in death were two nephews and four nieces.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; his parents of Lawrence, Kan.; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jean and Franklin Bear of Okemah; one brother, Rafe Evans of Lawrence, Kan.; one sister, Jadee Kabance of Topeka, Kan.; and his maternal grandmother, Eloise Franken of Shawnee.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Creek Chapel near Okemah. Burial will follow in Jimboy Family Cemetery, also near Okemah. The Rev. Franklin Beaver and the Rev. Edwin Jimboy will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert Simons Funeral Home.

Herman Edward Flowers

Herman Edward Flowers, 86, died Thursday in Veterans Administration Hospital of Talihina, Okla.

He was born in Erick, Okla., on Nov. 17, 1914, the son of George Anna and John Tolbert Flowers. He graduated in 1935 from Erick High School.

Flowers later moved to California where he married Doris Jean McCutcheon on Sept. 1, 1946. He worked as a steam pipe fitter. After retirement, the couple moved first to Oregon, then to Albuquerque, N.M., and settled in Oklahoma.

He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Preceding Flowers in death were his parents and five brothers.

Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Marjorie Miller of Tecumseh; one son, Charles Edward Flowers of Lebanon, Ore.; one sister, Sylvia Hammon of Erick; one brother, Arch Flowers of Borger, Texas; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Erick First Baptist Church. Bro. Carl Hein and Bro. Tom Cooksey will officiate. Burial will be in Erick Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fatheree-Albert Funeral Home.

Lillian A. Maxwell

Shawnee resident Lillian A. Maxwell died Friday in a local hospital at the age of 79.

Services are pending under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Gwen Y. Williams

Gwen Y. Williams of Macomb died Thursday. She was 61.

She was born April 25, 1937, in Konawa to Eugene and Nancy (Weaver) Thomas.

She attended school in Konawa, and on Jan. 24, 1969, she married Ferrell Williams in Shawnee. She moved to Shawnee and Macomb after her marriage.

She was a homemaker, and a member of Romulus Baptist Church. She also was the past president of the Macomb Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, and three brothers.

Surviving are her husband, Ferrell Williams of the home; two sons and their spouses, Tim and Cheryl Williams of Prague, and Aaron and Elizabeth Williams of Tecumseh; five grandchildren; one sister, Bess Wallace of Noble; and four brothers, Loren Thomas of Shawnee; Travis Thomas of Checotah; Truman Thomas of Oklahoma City; Tony Thomas of Yale.

Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. LeRoy Rice and Rev. Bob Younts officiating. Burial is at Prairie View Cemetery in Macomb.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Chapel, Tecumseh.

Felix L. Klimkowski

Felix L. Klimkowski of Harrah died Wednesday. He was 84.

He was born May 2, 1914, in Harrah to John and Elizabeth (Lutomski) Klimkowski, and lived in Harrah all his life.

He was a farmer, but also had been employed at Harrah Public Schools and Oklahoma County. He was a member of St. Teresa's Catholic Church in Harrah.

Preceding in death were his wife, Helen, in 1969; his parents, two sisters, and one brother.

Surviving are three sons, John Klimkowski of North Carolina; Leonard Klimkowski of Crescent, Okla.; Daniel Klimkowski of Seminole; one daughter, Mary Roller of Chickasha; 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren.

A wake will be 7 p.m. Friday at St. Teresa's Catholic Church. Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Teresa's. Burial is at St. Teresa's Catholic Cemetery in Harrah. Services will be officiated by Father James Murphy.

Arrangements are under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service.
