Trinidad Ruiz

Shawnee resident Trinidad Ruiz died Thursday at a local hospital. He was 70.

Prayer Vigil will be recited 7 p.m. Sunday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Benedict Catholic Church.

Further announcements will be made.

Charles A. Detamore

Charles A. Detamore of Sanger, Texas, died Sunday. He was 66.

He was born June 7, 1933, in Shawnee.

He recently moved to Corpus Christi to be with his wife and family. He was a disabled veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Denton, Texas.

Survivors include his wife, Melba Detamore, Corpus Christi, Texas; mother, Marie Detamore, Shawnee; daughter, Charla Holland, Arlington, Texas; son, Terry Detamore, Arlington, Texas; sisters, Annelee Peery, Shawnee, and Susan Kinkade, Tecumseh; brother, Roger Detamore, Stamford, Texas; stepdaughters, Kim Litchko and Anita Waddups, both of Corpus Christi, Texas; two grandsons and one granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Detamore, and two sisters, Mary Lou Detamore and Margaret Detamore.

Visitation took place 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Corpus Christi Funeral Home. Services will be 3 p.m. today at Corpus Christi Funeral Home Chapel, 2409 Baldwin Blvd., Corpus Christi, Texas. Burial will follow at Seaside Memorial Park, 4357 Ocean Drive, Corpus Christi, Texas.

Carlton B. New

Shawnee resident Carlton B. New died Thursday in Shawnee. He was 77.

New was born April 3, 1922, in Greenbriar, Ark., to Claude Cooper and Ila (McAlister) New. He married Thelma Maxine Smith on May 20, 1945, in Sanger, Calif.

He was retired from civil service and was a bi-vocational minister and was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received the Purple Heart. He lived in California for several years, Meeker for 10 years and moved to Shawnee in 1985.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Maxine New, Shawnee; son and daughter-in-law, Greg A. and Olivia G. New, Shawnee; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Archie R. Wheat, San Antonio, Texas; Angela and Deward Hancock, Prague; brother, V.A. "Bill" Honeycutt, Sallisaw; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard Stillwell and the Rev. Tim Emmons officiating. Burial will be in Tecumseh Mission Cemetery.

William H. Gray Jr.

William H. Gray Jr., 55, Shawnee, died Wednesday in an Oklahoma City hospital.

He was born Aug. 7, 1945, in Ramsey, Ind., the son of William Homer and Gertrude (Berkenmeyer) Gray. He attended school in Indiana.

Gray drove a truck for Nachand Beverage for many years. He also was a special deputy for Clark County Sheriff's Department before moving to Shawnee in 1981. He was the co-owner and chief mechanic of B and K Kerr McGee until he went to work at Foresee Oil Co.

Gray went to work for the City of Shawnee Housing Authority in August 1996. He worked there until his death.

On July 7, 1994, he married Cindy Dobbins.

Preceding him in death was his father.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; his mother, of New Albany, Ind.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Deana and Ronnie Stewart of Prague and Kim and Ron Nash of Fort Myers, Fla.; three grandchildren, Colton Stewart, Lane Stewart and Austin Nash; three sisters, Delores Belcher of Ledgefield, Ky.; Helen Dailey of Charles Town, Ind. and Sharon Geswein of Indianapolis, Ind.; and two brothers, Donnie Gray and Gene Gray, both of Jeffersonville, Ind.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Mary Lou (Madden) Tison

Mary Lou (Madden) Tison died Thursday.

She was born in Barnsdall, Okla., on Jan. 8, 1923, the daughter of Clyde and Minnie Madden. She attended school in Newalla and McLoud. She was the valedictorian of her McLoud High School class.

A resident of Shawnee for many years, she worked at the Sylvania plant. She later ran a daycare in her home for 10 years. In 1970, she moved to Oklahoma City. Mrs. Tison retired from Deluxe Check Printing Corporation in 1990.

She was a member of New Covenant Christian Church in Oklahoma City.

Preceding her in death were her parents and four brothers.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Alton Clyde and Pamela Tison of Oklahoma City; one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra Lou and David Miller of Oklahoma City; three brothers and their wives, M.J. and Barbara Madden of Tecumseh; John and Patsy Madden of Bristow and Donald and Josie Madden of Mounds, Okla.; one sister-in-law, Oleta Madden of Sapulpa; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Smith-Kernke Funeral Home, 14624 N. May Ave., Oklahoma City. Graveside services will follow at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Newalla.

Memorials may be made to New Covenant Christian Church for a fund set in Mrs. Tison's name.

Azalee M. Lyle

McLoud resident Azalee M. Lyle, 87, died Thursday in a McLoud nursing home.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Dale Cemetery. The Rev. Leroy Kerbo will officiate. Arrangements and further announcements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Ople Laphine Holladay

Ople Laphine Holladay died Friday in a local hospital. The Shawnee resident was 94.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements and further announcements are pending.

Vivian Quinalty Hargis

Vivian (Arthur) Quinalty Hargis died Saturday in Oklahoma City. She was 80.

She was born in Asher on Sept. 13, 1918, to William L. and Velma Mae (Bowen) Arthur. She was married to Daniel Quinalty who died in 1992.

She lived in Seminole most of her life and worked at Pioneer Nursing Home before retiring in 1980.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Bobby Quinalty; and a brother, Amos Arthur; and a daughter, Vivian Darlene Quinalty;

Survivors include one son, Frank Quinalty, Oklahoma City; two daughters, Betty Coleman, Oklahoma City, and Judy Bussey, Seminole; two sisters, Eula Moore, Lindsay, and Bonnie Cagle, Seminole; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. Burial will be at Little Cemetery.

George Robert Bohanon

George Robert Bohanon of Seminole died Monday at a local hospital. He was 86.

He was born Feb. 16, 1913, in Sardis to Robert Bohanon and Elsie Ann Bell Bohanon Moore. He married Evelyn (Godfrey) Fretz on June 11, 1982, in Seminole.

Bohanon attended Jones Academy for Indian Boys in Hartshorne and graduated from Kemper Military Academy in Booneville, Mo., in 1937. He served during World War II in the South Pacific as a technical sergeant for the U.S. Army.

He retired from Amardo in 1970. After retirement he worked as purchasing agent for Seminole Company then worked at Resthaven Memorial Gardens as a grounds keeper. He later worked at Davis Hardware.

Bohanon was a Shriner and belonged to the 32nd Mason.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Jane (Reed) Bohanon; seven brothers, Andrew, Abner Sylvester, Howard, Russell Perry, Ellis, Edgar Lee and Sam Bohanon; four sisters, Laura Mae Bohanon Davis Deaton Southard, Ethel Bohanon, Vina Bohanon Bell Selby and Elsie Bohanon Anderson Norris.

Survivors include his wife Evelyn of the home; son and daughter-in-law, George "Bobby" Robert II and Malvina Bohanon of Fayetteville, N.C.; stepchildren, Janice and Ralph Dunagan of Seminole, Paul Fretz of El Paso, Texas; sister, Viola Moore Sullivan of Oklahoma City; numerous nieces and nephews and one grandchild, George "Robert" Bohanon III.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Kelvin Moseley officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.

Jannie Elizabeth Robertson

Longtime Shawnee resident Jannie Elizabeth Robertson died Tuesday at an Oklahoma City hospital. She ws 84.

She was born Sept. 16, 1914, in Little Rock, Ark.

She married James C. Robertson May 1, 1948, in Shawnee. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Robertson moved as a young child to Shawnee, where lived most of her life. She was a member of the Bible Temple Church.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Joe Howard, Duncan; two grandsons, Michael Betts and Brian Howard, both of Duncan; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Guy Cagle officiating under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Bobby Shackelford

Shawnee resident Bobby Shackelford died Monday at a local hospital. He was 67.

Shackelford was born March 26, 1933, in Cheyenne, Okla., to Shack and Sylvia Shackelford.

He married Beatrice Rigg July 26, 1958, in Kileen, Texas.

He attended Shawnee Schools. He worked for Forrsee Service, Goodyear and Andy's. He served in the U.S. Army from Feb. 3, 1951, to 1973, retiring after 20 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Shackelford, of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Jay Kinnamon, Shawnee, Lisa and James Hutton, Weatherford, Texas, and Misty Nealy, Fort Worth, Texas; grandchildren, Jesse Shackelford, Shawnee; Josh Nealy, Fort Worth, Texas; Ross Kinnamon, Shawnee; Alea Hutton, Weatherford, Texas; Cody Roll, Fort Worth, Texas; Brandi McCullar, Shawnee; and Bobby Beird, Shawnee; mother, Sylvia Shackelford, Shawnee; brothers, Buck Shackelford, Norman, Dub Shackelford and Royce Shackelford, both of Shawnee; sisters, Sue Motley, McLoud; Kathy Charvet, Edmond; and Anita Nobert, McLoud; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Resthaven Memorial Park with Bill Matthews officiating, assisted by Phil Thompson. Services are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Joe David Dunn

Joe David Dunn of Shawnee died Monday at a local nursing home. He was 92.

Dunn was born July 31, 1906, in Indian Territory, west of Shawnee to Walter Amon and Florence Lea (Boatner) Dunn. He married Ruby Pollard on June 26, 1971, in Shawnee, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 9, 1992.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the I.O.O.F. lodge of Shawnee.

Also preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, Roy Dunn, Andrew Dunn and James Dunn; three sisters, Rosa Stringer, Lena Boring White, and Ora Parsons.

Surviving are three sisters, Ruby Lanier Nixon of Rockford, Ill.; Virginia Whittington of Shawnee, Martha Fruit of Borger, Texas; three stepchildren, Faye Crosby of Earlsboro, Nora Cole of Davenport, and Homer Hughes of Shreveport, La.

The family will gather at the home of Virginia Whittington.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Mel Whittington Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery.

Edna Thompson

Edna (Schechter) Thompson of Tecumseh died Monday in Shawnee. She was 69.

She was born Jan. 7, 1930, in Tulsa to Norman and Esther (Brock) Schechter. She married John Thompson in Yuma, Ariz. Aug. 5, 1950. She was born and reared in Tulsa, and moved to California in 1945.

While in California, she met and married her husband. She lived in California 50 years, near Los Angeles and San Diego.

She drove a school bus for 20 years and was manager of a high school cafeteria in California.

Preceding her in death were a son, Charles Thompson; her parents, and a brother, Darrell Schechter.

Surviving are her husband, John Thompson of the home; a daughter, Myrna Sue Allen of Valley Center, Calif.; a brother, Bill Schechter of California; five grandchildren, Shawn Thompson, Justin Duran, Timothy Thompson, Becky Thompson, and Rory Landsberg; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Assembly of God Church in Tecumseh with the Rev. Robert Rider officiating. Burial will be in Tribbey Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.
