Zeola Mae Hopper Wilkinson

Zeola Mae Hopper Wilkinson was born near Lamar, Arkansas, to Lewis Hayden and Ida Covington Hopper on November 19, 1934. She passed from this life on November 15, 2003, at her home in Agra, Okla. at the age of 68 years, 11 months and 27 days.

As an infant, she moved with her family to Oklahoma City, where she lived until after the death of her father in February 1938. That summer she moved with her mother and older brother, Jim, to Parkland, Oklahoma, where her mother later married Roy Greenfield. The family established their home on a farm a mile west of Parkland.

Zeola started school at Parkland in 1940, receiving instruction from Ola B. Powell who had also taught her mother in school. She graduated from Agra High School in 1952, and attended Central State College in Edmond, Oklahoma.

The family moved to California, near Tulare, after World War II ended and lived there about three years. Zeola was baptized into the General Assembly and Church of the First- born on July 24, 1947, at Tulare.

In the fall of 1954, Zeola moved to Eureka, California, to live with her brother, Jim. There she met Glen Wilkinson, and they were married on May 28, 1955. Their union was blessed with two sons, Randy Lynn and Ricky Glen, and one daughter, Judy Denise. Judy passed away at the age of eight and a half months, and is buried in Tulare Cemetery; Tulare, California.

Glen and Zeola had the privilege of going many places among the brethren in the service of the Lord, and made many lasting friendships among God's people. They counted this a very special thing in their lives. Zeola worked for more than twenty years as a midwife in the church and had much joy in this labor for the Lord.

She loved handicrafts and fashioned several quilts for her children and grandchildren. She loved to crochet, and many have received things made by her hands in this art. She also did some oil painting and other crafts. These were the source of many hours of pleasure for her, as were cooking and sewing.

F or several years she helped coordinate the Christmas party and other activities for the church in Wichita, Kansas, where she and Glen lived for 27 years. She tried to always keep her service to God and his people as the utmost effort in her life.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lewis Hayden Hopper; her step-father, Roy Greenfield; her mother, Ida Emma Toles; one brother, James Hayden Hopper; a daughter, Judy Denise Wilkinson; and one great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Nicole Bellew.

She is survived by: her husband, Glen of Agra, Oklahoma; two sons: Randy and wife Pam, and Ricky and wife Kathy, both of Parkland, Oklahoma; one brother: Bud Greenfield of Chandler, Oklahoma; three sisters: Sis Wright of Nicoma Park, Oklahoma; Marvadeen McCracken of Wichita, Kansas; and Karen Linder of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a very special twin cousin, Pat Miller of Chandler, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and a host of brethren and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday November 19, 2003 at the Parkland Church of the Firstborn in Parkland, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at the Parkland Cemetery. Services will be under the direction of the Palmer Funeral Home of Cushing.

Juanita Brown Fisher

Juanita Brown Fisher, retired Cushing School Teacher, passed away early Thursday morning, Dec. 4, 2003, in Trenton, Michigan, at the age of 83 years.

The daughter of the late Fred Brown and Effie McGoldrick Brown, Juanita was born on Sept. 4, 1920 in Cincinnati, Iowa, and was reared and educated in the Agra Community, graduating from Agra High School. She attended and graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1944. She had taught school for over 40 years prior to her retirement in 1987. She taught the first and fourth grades along with special reading.

She was united in marriage to Jesse Fisher on May 28, 1944, here in Cushing and he preceded her in death on April 7, 1992.

Juanita had been a member of the Cushing Church of the Nazarene for over 60 years; was a member of the A.A.U.W. and the K.K.I. (teachers sorority).

Surviving includes her daughter, Jayne Gregg and her husband Joe of Flat Rock, MI; two grandsons, David and Daniel Gregg; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by three brothers, A.D. Brown, Fred Brown and Earl Brown, and three sisters, Helen Stevens, Mable Corporon and Mary Brown.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 8, 2003 at 10 A.M. in the Cushing Church of the Nazarene with Reverend Mike Davis, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery, Cushing, OK.

Bill Anderson

Funeral services for Bill Anderson, 70, of Stroud will be held Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Agra. Burial will follow at the Parkland Cemetery in Parkland. Mr. Anderson passed away Dec. 1, 2003. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service.

Charlie Gene Scott

Charlie Gene Scott, a long time resident of Yale and most recently of Stillwater, died on Sunday, November 30, 2003 at his home at the age of 61 years.

The son of Oscar Lee Scott and Dora May Hopkins, Charlie was born on August 21, 1942 in Yale, OK. He was reared and educated in the Yale area. After graduating from Yale High School, Charlie attended and graduated from the Tulsa Business College in Tulsa.

Charlie had entered the United States Air Force and had served overseas while working as a radio operator. After his discharge, he returned to the states and began working in the pipeline industry. He last worked for JoMax Construction in Wichita, KS.

Charlie was baptized into the Baptist Church, Yale, OK on March 2, 1958.

Later in life he was united in marriage to Wanda Phillips on November 14, 2001 in Miami, OK and they made their home in Stillwater.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda, of the home; mother, Dora Scott of Yale, OK; two daughters, Beckie Pickerill and her husband Scott of Wills Point, TX and Doreen Valadez and her husband Manual of Seward, Alaska; two sons, Charles Scott and his wife Jan of San Antonio, TX and Bronco Turner of Anchorage, Alaska; five grandchildren, Blake Pickerill and Evelyn Pickerill of Wills Point, TX, Madison Valadez of Seward, Alaska, Meagan Williams of Stillwater, OK and Hunter Scott of San Antonio, TX; two brothers, William Scott of Stillwater, OK and Richard Scott of Pawnee, OK; one sister, Barbara Shepard of Edmond, OK; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Charlie's father, Oscar Scott, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M., Thursday, December 4, 2003 in the Davis Yale Chapel, Yale, OK with Mich Dershem officiating.

Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery, Yale, OK.

Barbara Jean (Williams) Reese

Barbara Jean (Williams) Reese, a former longtime Cushing resident, died on Monday, January 19, 2004 in the St. John's Hospital in Springfield, MO at the age of 67 years.

The daughter of James Taylor and Inez (Williams) Crump, Barbara was born on November 22, 1936 in Cushing where she was reared and educated.

Barbara was united in marriage to Artie Reese and to this union, three children, Christine, Kimberly, and Sidney, were born. Artie preceded Barbara in death on December 10, 2002.

Barbara was a member of the First Baptist Church North, where she loved serving the Lord and her church and especially loved cooking in the church kitchen. Barbara had worked for the Cushing Public School system as a cook before her retirement.

Survivors include her mother, Inez Crump, of Kansas City, KS; two daughters, Christine Reese of Springfield, MO and Kimberly K. Reese of Junction City, KS; one son, Sidney Jr. Reese and his wife Brenda of Stillwater; four sisters, Doris Burton, Vettra Williams, Penny Williams all of Kansas City, KS, and Norma Gail of Arizona; three brothers, Leroy Williams of Ponca City, James Burton and Alfred Burton, both of Kansas City, KS; six grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, her father and two grandchildren preceded Barbara in death.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M., Wednesday, January 28, 2004 in the First Baptist Church North, Cushing, OK with Reverend James Manuel officiating.

Burial will follow in the Silver Star Cemetery.

Manuel Gene Holliday

Funeral services for Manuel Holliday, 73, of Cushing will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday January 28, 2004 at the First United Methodist Church in Cushing. Dr. Verlyn Snell will preside. Interment will follow at the Euchee Valley Memorial Park Cemetery East of Cushing.

Serving, as pallbearers will be Phil Holliday, Steve Holliday, Paul Holliday, Chad Holliday, Rick Eubank, Tyler Eubank, Mike Eubank and Brad Etheridge.

Funeral services will be under the direction of the Palmer Funeral Home of Cushing.

Born March 8, 1930 in Maud, Oklahoma to Jess and Alice (Brumley) Holliday. He received his early education in Oklahoma City and was a graduate of the Central High School Class of 1949. He was married to Gloria (Graves) on March 22, 1952 in Oklahoma City. They made their home in Oklahoma City and lived in Norman prior to moving to Cushing in 1966. Manuel worked for several flower shops while living in Oklahoma City and Norman, when he moved to Cushing he was owner of the Laveryâs Flower Shop and also the Four Seasons Flower Shop. In 1987 he retired from the flower business and went to work for the Palmer Funeral Home in Cushing as a pre need funeral counselor. Manuel worked at Palmer Funeral Home until his health would not allow him to early in January.

Manuel was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Cushing and was the head of the worship committee. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Men's golf association. Manuel had two holes in one during his golfing career that started at the age of ten years old; he also won the Club championship at the Cushing Country Club at the age of 71 years. An avid O.U. Sooners Fan, he enjoyed golf and his grandchildren.

Manuel was a veteran serving in the air force he departed this life on Sunday January 25, 2004 at the Cushing Regional Hospital.

Survivors include, his bride of 51 years Gloria, three sons, Steve and wife Joanna of St. Louis, Phil and wife Connie of Shawnee and Paul and wife Shelley of Shawnee, one daughter Susan Eubank and husband Rick of Cushing, two brothers Jerry and J.L. and his wife Willa Holliday both of Oklahoma City, one sister Willena Pogue of Savannah, Tenn., 11 grandchildren.

His parents and one sister Willeta preceded Manuel in death.

Ethel M. Gililland

Ethel M. Gililland, Cushing native, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, at the Cushing Regional Hospital. She was 84.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, in the First Christian Church (Disciples) of which she was a long time member. Dr. Larry Haney will officiate and John Malget, minister of music, will sing some of Ethel's favorite hymns.

Interment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, north of Cushing. The funeral and interment will be under direction of Davis Funeral Home.

Mrs. Gililland was born in Cushing on May 29, 1919, the daughter of Francis S. and Lurinda Lenora (Stewart) Wilson. She was a graduate of Cushing High School, Class of 1936.

After her mother died when she was a young woman, Ethel took her place with the children and raised her five brothers and sisters.

She and Clifford E. "Pete" Myers were married in 1940 and established their first home at Pitcher, OK where he was employed with Eagle Mining Co. Their first child, Donald Edward, was born in 1942. The couple moved back to Cushing and he was employed with Deep Rock Refinery until the refinery closed and the family was transferred to Navajo, Ariz., where Pete died in 1971.

After she returned to Cushing she was employed by the City of Cushing as the first director/manager of the Cushing Senior Citizen Center, holding that position until the present Center was established.

She and Griffith Gililland were married in the First Christian Church (Disciples) on Feb. 13, 1982. He has preceded her in death.

Ethel held membership in the Cushing Pilots International and was one of the first volunteers with the Cushing Regional Hospital Auxiliary, serving as an officer including president.

She was an Elder and active with the Women's Association of First Christian; delivered Mobile Meals for Cushing Regional Hospital and one of the first to work with the Lifeline program of the Hospital Auxiliary. She was an avid bridge player.

She is predeceased by her parents, her brother Leonard, and three sisters, Bettie, Nettie and Georgia Lou.

Ethel, most recently was a resident of Cimarron Tower and Linwood Village.

Surviving are her daughter, Sharon Huggins of Phoenix, AZ; her sons, Don Myers of Galveston, Texas and Ron Myers of Antelope, CA; her brother, Joe F. Wilson and wife, Nelda and their daughter Lori Blankenship, all of Tulsa.

Also surviving are four step-sisters, daughters of her stepmother Rosa Wingfield Wilson. They are Bonnie Triebel of Arizona; Norma Gooding, Addie Wigzell and Mildred Cobb all of California.

The family has requested memorials in her name to the Lifeline program c/o CRH Auxiliary, P.O. Box 1409, Cushing, Ok. 74023.
