Melvin Rolland Tuter

Melvin Rolland Tuter died Sunday in McLoud.

He was born Oct. 1, 1913, in Brookline, Mo., to Elisha Guy and Willie Mae Pennick Tuter.

Tuter attended high school in the Tulsa area.

He and Dorothy B. Harris were married July 7, 1936, in Oklahoma City.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1945. After retirement from the Continental Oil Co. in Ponca City, he moved to McLoud.

He was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Ponca City.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Rolland and Pat Tuter, McLoud; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Charles Keeler, Oklahoma City; sister, Ethel Coburn, North Richland Hills, Texas; brother, Carl Tuter, Oklahoma City; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Thelma Shelby.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Asa Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Harrah, with the Rev. Mike Taylor officiating and Bill Derrick assisting. Burial will be in McLoud Cemetery under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Quality Care Inc., 107 S. Sooner Rd., Del City, Okla. 73110-2041.

Raymond Phillips Jr.

Raymond Phillips Jr. died Sunday in Cushing. He was 70.

He was born July 20, 1929, in Kiowa. He was the son of Raymond and Jessie (Westlake) Phillips.

Phillips married Kathy Humphrey Aug. 3, 1956, in Chickasha.

He was a resident of Lincoln County for the past 35 years and was a mechanic for Allied Material Corp., Trucking Division. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Davenport.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy, of the home; four daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Rocky Williams, Chandler, Sharon and Curtis Miller, Tulsa, Lisa and David Myers, Broken Arrow, and Sandy and Steve Messer, Kendrick; three brothers, James Phillips, Stroud, T.L. Phillips, Clinton, and Ernie Phillips, Davenport; six sisters, Jeraldene Frye, Seminole, Bertha Cook, Little Axe, Mildred Williams, Stroud, Dottie Nidell, Moore, Sue Williams, Stroud, and Linda McGee, Cushing; five grandchildren, Stephanie Williams, Amanda Williams, Alex Myers, Caitlin Myers and Sarah Miller; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Parks Brothers Chapel in Stroud with the Rev. Leon Williams and the Rev. Harold Gaches officiating. Burial will be in the Davenport Cemetery under the direction of Parks Funeral Home, Stroud.

Clarence Nelson Dunegan

Shawnee resident Clarence Nelson Dunegan died Wednesday at his home. He was 83.

He was born April 26, 1916, in Wade to Willie Nelson and Cue Belle (Freeman) Dunegan.

He was a retired cook and a veteran of World War II. He lived in California, Washington and Illinois. He moved to Shawnee in 1963.

Survivors include his daughter, Doris Ann Dunegan Mangiapane, Concord, Calif.; brother, Roland Fuller Dunegan, Lawton; sisters, Edna Louise Woodward, Amarillo, Texas, Jesse Etta Bates, Shawnee, Wilma Frances Strange, Oxnard, Calif., and Pat Ruth Golden, Wichita Falls, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clyde and Dwaine; and sister, Thelma M. Sanders.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fairlawn Cemetery in Synder with the Rev. J.W. Denham officiating under the direction Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Troy Dean Edwards

Seminole resident Troy Dean Edwards died Sunday at Carl Albert Indian Hospital, Ada. He was 37.

He was born Sept. 22, 1961, in Pawnee to John Laddis Edwards and Christine Larney Hotulke.

He was a painter and a roofer.

Survivors include his mother, Christine Larney Hotulke, Seminole; son, Anthony Troy Edwards, Moore; brothers, Gary Alan Hotulke, Seminole, Vernon Wood, Amarillo, Texas, and John Laddis Edwards Jr., Wichita, Kan.; sisters, Sherry Ann Colbert, Phoenix, Ariz., Fawn Raye Edwards, Tulsa, and Patricia Gibson, Konawa.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Little Cemetery.

Cleo Parker

Cleo Parker died Sunday in Prague. She was 98 years old.

She was born Oct. 30, 1900, in Texas to George and Alice (Garrett) Eakin.

She was a homemaker and resident of Prague since 1962. She also was a member of the First Baptist Church in Prague.

She married Clyde E. Parker in January 1940. He preceded her in death July 13, 1997.

She also was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and a daughter, Geneva Martin in 1962.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Donald M. and Vonetta Frye, Plano, Texas; stepsons, Wayne M. and Dorothy Parker, Norman, Phillip D. and Lydia Parker, Oregon, and James Rex and Beverly Parker, Wichita Falls, Texas; stepdaughter, Loveta P. Turner, Dumas, Texas; brother, Ted Eakin, Stinnett, Texas; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Wetumka Cemetery with Brother Tim Emmons officiating. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague.

Raymond M. Courtney

Seminole resident Raymond M. Courtney, 87, died Saturday at a Seminole nursing home.

Courtney was born May 27, 1912, in Blackgum, Okla., to William Courtney and Lilly Mae (Watson) Courtney. He married Florence Mildred (Mangrum) Courtney on Sept. 20, 1936, in Yanush, Okla.

He had lived in Seminole County for 65 years, moving from Vian. He retired from work in the oil fields and was a farmer and rancher. He was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Larry Raymond and Brenda Courtney and Steven K. and Kathy Courtney, all of Yukon; daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Frank Hawkins, Choctaw; Ella Ruth and Fred Morrison, Seminole; brothers, J.V. Courtney, Baton Rouge, La.; Sam Courtney, Warsaw, Mo.; sisters, Ethel Roberson, Vian; Verlin Murry, San Demas, Calif.; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, on Jan. 29, 1986; four brothers and three sisters.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Larry Chesser Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Cupco Cemetery, Yanush, Okla.

Geraldine Dutton

Longtime Shawnee resident Geraldine "Jerry" Dutton died Sunday at her home. She was 74.

She was born Feb. 14, 1925, in Whitesboro, Texas, to Frank and Dollie Thompson.

She married Harold Dutton on July 3, 1948.

She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1943. She was a homemaker for 22 years, and then attended and graduated from LPN school. She retired from Shawnee Regional Hospital in 1981.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Dollie Thompson, and brother-in-law, B.J. Larch-Miller.

Survivors include her husband, Harold Dutton of the home; sons and daughter-in-law, Rusty and Rania Dutton and Frank Dutton; daughter Denise Rooker; grandchildren, Ryan and Amanda Rooker; sister, Gertie Larch-Miller; brother and sister-in-law, C.L. and Irene Thompson of Rockford, Ill., numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

A memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wallace Avenue Baptist Church with Pastor DuWayne Colvin officiating.

John F. Rich

John F. "Buster" Rich died Sunday in Seminole. He was 83.

He was born Feb. 12, 1916, in Konawa to William Marion and Jipsie L. (Jones) Rich. He was a resident of the Little community, where he was a farmer and a welder.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother.

Survivors include two sisters, Esther Norman of Perry, and Geneva Baker of Konawa; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. today at Little Cemetery with Frank Stockton officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague.

Virgil Eugene Baughman

Former Harrah resident Virgil Eugene Baughman died Saturday in Bryan, Texas. He was 80.

Baughman was born Sept. 9, 1918, in Ord, Neb., to Marland Martin and Mary Ellen (Sullivan) Baughman. He had served in the U.S. Army Corp, and was a machinist at Tinker Air Force Base.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise Baughman on Oct. 19, 1995.

Surviving are his daughter, Shirley Ferguson and her husband James, of Texas; sister Mary L. Roberts of Missouri; brother, Art Baughman of Kansas City, Mo.; and two grandchildren.

Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Asa Smith Funeral Chapel in Harrah with Rev. Elza Boldman officiating. Burial is at Arlington Memory Gardens in Midwest City.

Jerry Joe Stevenson II

Jerry Joe Stevenson II of Wellston died Friday at Children's Hospital in Oklahoma City after a traffic accident. He was 10.

He was born July 1, 1988, in Shawnee.

Surviving are his grandparents, Jerry and Darlene Stevenson of Wellston; his mother and stepfather, Misty and Fred Rabah of Missouri; two brothers, Robert Victor Damico of Missouri, and Dennis Eric Bristow of Shawnee; one sister, Nicole Renee Rabah of Missouri; aunts and uncles, Joe Dow Stevenson Sr., of Wellston, Donald Eugene Stevenson of Lawton, Jeanne Lynn Stevenson of Wellston, Holly White of Shawnee; and many cousins.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hillside Baptist Church with the Rev. Tuney Ropp officiating. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service.

Nina Burk Walton

Shawnee resident Nina Burk Walton died Monday at a local hospital. She was 80.

Mrs. Walton was born April 22, 1919, in Rich Mountain, Ark., to Clarence and Emma Burk. She married William Richard "Dick" Walton on Dec. 2, 1940, in Reno, Nev.

She graduated from Acorn High School in Acorn, Ark. She also graduated from East Central University in Ada. She was a middle school teacher in Cushing and Cromwell.

She had lived in Wellston since 1979 and moved to Shawnee four years ago. She was a member of Oklahoma Education Association.

Survivors include five daughters, Karen Sue Roberts, Guthrie; Linda June Toops, Cushing; Gwen Ellen Fisher, Oklahoma City; Billie Ann Hensley, Norman; Galen Patricia Rowlands, Canyon City, Colo.; sons, David Burk Walton, Lone Grove; Paul Stuart Walton, Coos Bay, Ore.; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; sisters, Billie Burk Shepard, St. Louis, Mo.; Emma Maurine Wessels, Bull Head City, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and two sisters.

Services are pending under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
