Michael Ray Reynolds

Seminole County resident Michael Ray Reynolds died Sunday. He was 50.

He was born Dec. 12, 1950, in Seminole to John Thomas and Mary Louise (Maddox) Reynolds.

He was active in the Seminole community serving as a firefighter and at Swearingen Funeral Home.

Reynolds was also active in the Seminole Lion's Club and was a past Elk and Mason.

He retired after 28 years of service with the Seminole Fire Department and 25 years at Swearingen Funeral Home.

He graduated from Seminole High School and had attended Seminole State College, where a scholarship has been established in his name.

Reynolds was a member of the First Baptist Church.

On Oct. 6, 1972, he married Brenda Colleen Horn at the First Baptist Church, Seminole.

Survivors include his wife of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Kristin and Jerry Sherfield and Brittan and Wade Rigney, all of Seminole; brother, Kenny Whetstine of Seminole; sister, Starla Longest of Muskogee; granddaughter, Addison Glory Sherfield; a grandson due in March; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Kelvin Moseley officiating. Entombment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Mike Reynolds Scholarship Fund, American Heart Association, Diabetes Foundation or Shawnee Regional Hospice.

Arvie Bowerman

Harrah resident Arvie Bowerman died Friday.

He was born in 1913 to Herbert and Gertie Bowerman near Ada.

He spent his life farming.

Bowerman was a member of the Harrah Church of the Nazarene.

He was employed at the McAlester Army Ammunitions Depot until his 1980 retirement.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Olevia (Howell) Bowerman of the home; daughters and son-in-law, Dolores and Joe Holloway of Harrah, Pat Sutterfield of Choctaw and Gale Watts of Moore; son, Wayne Bowerman of Oklahoma City; aunt, Bertha Harrington of McAlester; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at the Harrah Church of Nazarene. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. at the Arpelar Cemetery.

The family received visitors 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Asa Smith Funeral Service, Harrah.

Bobby Osborn

Services for Bobby Osborn, 60, will be 2 p.m. today at Williamson Funeral Home Chapel in Wetumka.

Wendell P. Myers

Wendell P. Myers, 80, of Shawnee died Saturday at a local hospital.

He was born March 10, 1920, in Hastings, Neb., the son of J.U. Myers and Irene (Jenkins) Myers.

He was an honors graduate of Oklahoma State University and taught printing at Shawnee High School from 1967 until his retirement in 1985.

He worked in the newspaper business as a reporter, machinist and linotype operator. Myers also was an educator. He taught at Shawnee High School from 1967 to 1985.

He married Rosamond Wood Nov. 11, 1944, in Oklahoma City.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Myers was a charter member of Golden Acres Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school. He also taught Sunday school at the First Baptist Church of Shawnee.

He served as president of the Shawnee Lion's Club and was an Explorer Scoutmaster.

Myers lived in Shawnee for more than 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Esther Myers Flora; and son, Wendell Paul Myers Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Rosamond Myers of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Grace and Tom Scrivener of Fredericksburg, Va.; sister, Iva Mae Ruckman; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Bill and Lois Myers; daughter-in-law, Anna Myers of Chandler; son-in-law and wife, Tom and Phyllis Flora of Shawnee; grandchildren and their spouses, Joe and Laurie Scrivener Soliz, Greg and Joy Scrivener, Ginny Myers, Benjamin and Mandy Myers, Anna-Marie Myers, Holly Flora, Wendy Flora and Cody Flora; and great-grandchild, Andrew Scrivener.

Services will be 11 a.m. today at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. James McMillan officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Makailah Marie Sanders Bates

Makailah Marie Sanders Bates, infant daughter of Amanda Sanders of Shawnee and Dixon Bates of Earlsboro, died Sunday in Shawnee.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandfather, Earl Woods.

Survivors include her parents; grandparents, Allen Graham and Jo Sanders, both of Shawnee, and Debrah and Roy Bates, Earlsboro; great-grandparents, Juanita Woods and June Dunn, both of Shawnee, Lyle and Ethel Bates, Meeker, and Leon Dunn, Spencer; aunts and uncles, Bryan Sanders, Shawnee, and Kaitlyn Bates and Justin Bates, both of Earlsboro.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Blackburn Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Bates officiating. Burial will be at Ray Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Helen L. Gideon

Helen L. Gideon of Shawnee died Monday at an Oklahoma City hospital. She was 74.

She was born May 17, 1926, in Fayetteville, Ark., the daughter of Mort and Myrtle (Clanton) Wagner.

Mrs. Gideon worked for the Veterans Administration in St. Louis, Mo., and later Tinker Air Force Base, Midwest City, where she retired from.

She married Hubert Gideon Dec. 26, 1953, in Tunica, Miss. He preceded her in death in July 1996.

Mrs. Gideon was a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army and served overseas in Germany and France during the Korean conflict.

She was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and A.A.R.P., American Association of Retired Persons. Mrs. Gideon lived in St. Louis, Mo., before moving to Shawnee in 1979.

Survivors include son, Robert Gideon of Shawnee; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Michael Askins of Shawnee; four grandsons, Bobby Gideon, Thomas Askins, Timmy Askins and Anthony Askins, all of Shawnee; and brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Paula Wagner of Weleetka.

Services will be 4 p.m. today at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bill Matthews and the Rev. Phil Thompson officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Billy Morrow

Billy "Doc" Morrow died Sunday in the Veterans Center in Talihina at the age of 71.

He was born Nov. 3, 1929, in Okemah to Alva Lewis Morrow and Betty Elizabeth Sperry Morrow. He attended Pharaoh Schools and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He worked as a foreman at American Window, Okmulgee, and was a resident of Okfuskee and Okmulgee counties most of his life.

He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Okmulgee American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include stepson, David Bryant, Okmulgee; sister, Mildred Swinford, Henryetta; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were 2 p.m. Monday at Highland Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah.

Jimmie Lou Spaugy

Homemaker Jimmie Lou Spaugy of Denison, Texas, died Thursday at a Denison, Texas, hospital. She was 68.

She was born June 7, 1932, in Oklahoma City, the daughter of James Louis Rutherford and Fern (Moore) Rutherford.

She attended Shawnee High School.

She was married to Ronal Spaugy in Holdenville Nov. 30, 1947.

Mrs. Spaugy was a member Austin Park Christian Church of El Paso, Texas and a member of Christian Women's Fellowship.

She lived in Shawnee for 14 years and later moved to Texas, where she lived in El Paso, Dallas and Denison for the last 10 years of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sons, Ronnie Spaugy and Randy Spaugy; grandmother, Leila Chronister; and grandfather, Bill Chronister.

Survivors include her husband, Ronald Spaugy of Denison, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Tom Boon of Plano, Texas; four grandchildren, Ashley Boon and Eric Boon, both of Plano, and Ronnie Spaugy and Ginger Jenkins, both of El Paso; great-grandchildren, Javier and Lauren Spaugy of El Paso; and uncle, W.E. Moore of Moore.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Resthaven Funeral Home, Shawnee, with the Rev. Bill Shaw officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

The family has designated the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, Texas, 75231 as appropriate for memorials.

Lorraine M. Berkstresser

Former Shawnee resident, Lorraine M. "Pat" Berkstresser, 84, of Bellefonte, Pa., died Sunday at a nursing center in Bellefonte.

She was born Oct. 12, 1916, in Spring Mills, Pa., the daughter of Roy and Edith Breon Gentzel.

She married Richard D. Berkstresser Sept. 5, 1937, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 22, 1993.

Mrs. Berkstresser graduated from Miles Township High School in 1934. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Berkstresser was a charter member of the First Indian Baptist Church, Shawnee, and attended Brush Valley Mennonite Church. She also was a member of Sac and Fox Powwow Club, Shawnee.

Survivors include her sister, Betty Dickey of Rural Beech Creek, Pa.

Visitation will be 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral Service, 226 S. Pennsylvania, Ave., Centre Hall, Pa.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Marvin M. Freed officiating. Burial will be at Lutheran and Reformed Cemetery, Rebersburg, Pa, under the direction of Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral Service.
