Chloe Omega Cooksey

Chloe Omega Cooksey, 99, of Guthrie died Saturday.

She was born June 19, 1901, in Willis, Okla., to James Marion and Alice (Basham) Green. She grew up in Willis, moved to Seward in 1929 and to Guthrie in 1963.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew David Cooksey, parents, four children, five brothers, three sisters and several grandchildren.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Bill Hudson of Harrah, Ruby and Arley Moad of Guthrie; Edna and J.C. Ozbirn of Nicoma Park and Jerry Dorminey of Glen St. Mary, Fla.; daughter-in-law, Helen Cooksey of Nicoma Park; son-in-law, Milam Headley of Fort Worth, Texas; 22 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, relatives and friends.

Services will be today in Barnes and Johnson Funeral Home with burial to follow at Seward Cemetery.

Lavern Parks

Lavern Ilene Parks, 73, of Little died Sunday at her home.

She was born March 4, 1927, in Tuttle to Rollie William and Evelyn (Fletcher) Pickett.

Mrs. Parks moved to Seminole in 1928 and attended schools in Seminole and Pleasant Grove and graduated from Will Rogers High School, Tulsa.

She worked in the cafeteria at Strother High School from 1970 to 1975 and was secretary and treasurer for the Seminole New Age Project from 1977 until her 1990 retirement. She was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons and once spoke before Congress in Washington, D.C., on behalf of seniors.

She married Roy Monroe Parks in Columbus, Kan., Dec. 10, 1945. He preceded her in death on Sept. 17, 1996. She also was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Parks in 1996.

Mrs. Parks is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Bennie and Karen Parks, Inola, Okla., and Tim and Brenda Parks, Little; grandchildren, Brandy Parks and Amber Southers, both of Little, Michael Parks and Tracy Parks, both of Inola, and Dallas Carmell, Jefferson City, Mo.; three great-grandchildren, Amanda Parks and Cheyenne Parks, both of Inola and Austin Southers, Little.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of Christ, Little with Rusty Dawson officiating. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Marie Tapashe Deer Mack

Kickapoo tribal services were held for Marie Tapashe Deer Mack, 73, Sunday at the home of Miquel (Na´quat) and Linda Rodriguez of Jones, Okla.

She was born Dec. 7, 1927, in Shawnee, the daughter of Lizzie Cuppahe Tapashe and Charlie Tapashe.

She was reared by her grandparents, Laura and Lee Cuppahe and received guidance from her uncle, Louis Cuppahe, and aunt, Eva Mae Johnson through her life. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic School, Haskell, and Pawnee Indian Schools through the eleventh grade.

She married John Deer Sr. and they reared seven children.

She later married William Cody Mack in November 1982.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Lee Atchico; first husband, John Deer Sr.; and daughter, Constance June Deer.

Survivors are her children and their spouses Janice L. Deer, McLoud, L. Anthony Deer, Shawnee, Gary L. and Brenda Deer DeRosier, Los Alamos, N.M., Judy A. Deer Cosar, Mounds, George L. Deer, Shawnee, Ronald G. Deer, Midwest City, and John Deer, Jr., Shawnee; her Kickapoo relatives, brother, Marvin Stevens, Stroud; niece, Bertha (Chasie) Green Serrato, McLoud; nephews, Martin and Raymond Green, Harrah; her Sac and Fox relatives, sister, Cecilia Littlehead, Shawnee; daughters, Verlane, Redona and Clarissa Littlehead, Shawnee; sons, Ed Jr., Cecil and Ronny Littlehead, Shawnee; and numerous other cousins, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

Burial will be in the Cuppahe family cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Kickapoo Tribal Burial Fund.

Bertha Lorene Worley

Shawnee resident Bertha Lorene Worley died Wednesday at a local hospital. She was 85.

She was born Jan. 1, 1915, in Asher to Frank and Katie (Adams) Harlin.

She married Carl Worley in 1932 in Shawnee.

Mrs. Worley was a homemaker and a longtime member of East Main and Central Church of Christ. She was active as a Bible school teacher. She lived in Shawnee most of her life.

Survivors include her husband, Carl Worley, Shawnee; brother, Elmo Harlin; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Goldie McArthur, Wanda and Jim Gotcher, and Deanie and Warren Lee; six grandchildren and their spouses, Lori and Joe Payne, Shawnee, Nick and Suzette Hopkins, Dupont, Wash., Rachel and Adam McHolland, Oklahoma City, April Balentine, Shawnee, Shane and Jill Balentine, Shawnee, Misty Balentine, Arkansas; son-in-law, Arvil Balentine; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by both parents; one daughter, Sharon Balentine; two sisters and one brother.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with Don Sullivan and Dwyane Dennis officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to the Central Church of Christ, 10th and Bell, Shawnee.

Erlene Golden

Erlene Golden of Shawnee died Friday at a local hospital. She was 83.

She was born Aug. 19, 1916, in Oxford, Ark., to William M. Bryce and Stella P. (Croom) Bryce.

She married Kenneth Golden.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Central Church of Christ. She lived in Shawnee since 1972.

Survivors include her sons, Earl Gene "Butch" Bryce, Shawnee, Arthur Dean Golden, Shawnee; Eugene Adkisson, Moore; daughters, Erma McRay, Sunnyville, Calif., and Phyllis Harmon, Shawnee; nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister and one granddaughter.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Matthews and the Rev. Phil Thompson officiating under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Edward Raymond Staal

Meeker resident Edward Raymond Staal died Thursday. He was 86.

He was born Oct. 28, 1918, in Lenora, Okla., to Peter and Minnie (Windolth) Staal.

He worked for Steffens Dairy in Altus and Oklahoma City.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Glenda Staal, McLoud; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Jim Kidd, Cheyenne, Wyo.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and other family members and friends.

His wife, Naomi, preceded him in death.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in McLoud under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service, Harrah.

Mabel E. (Amrey) Ahlborn

Mabel E. (Amrey) Ahlborn of Seminole died Saturday. She was 91.

She was born May 13, 1908, in Holdenville. She was the daughter of William Oscar Amrey and Etta (McGee) Amrey.

She married Leroy Ahlborn on Dec. 9, 1934, in Paris, Ark.

Mrs. Ahlborn was a resident of Seminole County for more than 60 years. She came from Holdenville.

Mrs. Ahlborn was an accountant and bookkeeper. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and charter member of the Business and Professional Women for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Leroy Ahlborn, on Feb. 28, 1984.

Survivors include one niece and a three nephews and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Kelvin Moseley officiating.

Burial will be at Holdenville Cemetery.

Mary Christine Myers

Mary Christine Myers of Tecumseh died Saturday in Norman. She was 76.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Tecumseh. Further information will be announced by Cooper Funeral Home.

Duane Shawver

Duane Shawver of Seminole died Friday. He was 60.

He was born Oct. 3, 1939, in Oklahoma City. He was the son of John Shawver and Ida Taton Shawver.

Shawver was a long-time Seminole resident. He graduated from Maud High School in 1957.

He married Mary Curtis (Christian) Shawver on June 24, 1962, in Seminole.

For the past two months he had worked at Century 21. Prior to that he had owned and operated DMS Construction.

Earlier in his life he had owned and operated Shawver and Haley Construction Co. in Maud. He was a Baptist, member of the Seminole Bass Club and Elks Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Curtis (Christian) Shawver; one son and daughter-in-law, John and Laura Shawver of Oklahoma City; two daughters, Hailey Charamella and her husband, Jay, of Flower Mound, Texas; Tracy Shawver and her companion, Alex Kipnis, of Flower Mound, Texas; one brother, Bob Shawver of Oklahoma City; one sister, Joanne Waldrop of Shawnee; two grandchildren, Sydney Shawver of Oklahoma City and Christian Charamella of Flower Mound, Texas.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Karges officiating. Burial will be at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.

Charlene D. Hunt

Charlene "Mema" D. Hunt, 67, died Friday at a local hospital.

She was born March 15, 1932, in Crescent.

She was a longtime resident of Guthrie before moving to Shawnee.

Mrs. Hunt was preceded in death by her husband, Inman Hunt; parents, Charles and Thelma Powers; and daughter, Sandra Calwell.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and Jim Webb, Shawnee, Francis and Jody Adams, Bartlesville, Jackie and Douglas Thompson, California, and Rennia and Barry Crowley, Shawnee; brothers and sisters-in-law, Claudie and Shirley Powers, California, and Jack and Mary Powers, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Ron Murray, Guthrie; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

Memorial services wll be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Open Arms of Faith in Shawnee with Pastor Anthony Watts officiating.

Herchell Eugene Wallace

Herchell Eugene ³H.E.² Wallace of Meeker died Monday at a Tecumseh nursing home. He was 94.

He was born Aug. 7, 1908, near Meeker to William and Minnie (Quinn) Wallace. He married Grace Wakalee on Jan. 31, 1931. He was a retired farmer and dairyman.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Grace, on Nov. 30, 1992; two brothers, Oscar Wallace and Raymond Wallace; an infant son; a daughter, Norma Jean Pipkin, and a grandson, Mike Wallace.

Surviving are four sons, Leroy Wallace of Mesquite, Texas; Harold Wallace and Carl Wallace, both of Meeker; Charles Wallace of Chandler; eight daughters, Julia Hanson of Meeker; Minnie Morris of Moore; Earnestine Pettit of Henderson, Nev.; Wanda Brown of Arlington, Va.; Carol Holmes of Shawnee; Barbara Ramos of Yuma, Ariz.; Linda Morris of Moscow, Idaho; Kay Rhoads of Pflugerville, Texas; three brothers, Bobby Wallace and Junior Wallace of Medford, Ore., and Claudie Wallace of Woodlake, Calif.; two sisters, Betty Maness of Ivanhoe, Calif., and Margaret Maness of Visalia, Calif.; 34 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren.

Graveside service is 2 p.m. Thursday at New Hope Cemetery in Meeker with the Rev. Wayne Wilson officiating. Friends can meet with the family at the Sac and Fox Multi-Purpose Building, 215 N. Harrison in Shawnee, following the service.

Walker Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
