Hazel F. Schwarz

Hazel F. Schwarz of Shawnee died Monday. She was 81.

She was born March 26, 1918, in Helena, Mont. She was the daughter of H. Seth Fitzer and Mildred (Finley) Fitzer.

Mrs. Schwarz was a homemaker. She married Oscar Schwarz in Pierre, S.D., July 4, 1947.

She was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Shawnee post. She was also a member of the Baptist Church in Pierre, S.D.

Mrs. Schwarz has lived in Shawnee since 1973.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister and two brothers.

Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Betty and James Larson, Shawnee; Janet Hamm, South Dakota; Judy and Ed Bernnett, Nebraska; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Roger Hall, Citrus Heights, Calif.; Jerry and Margaret Hitchings, Rye, Texas; special companion, Harold Yott, Shawnee; an aunt, Maggie Babbs; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Resthaven Memorial Park's Trinity Chapel with the Rev. Bill Matthews and Phil Thompson officiating, under the direction of Resthaven Memorial Park.

Maurice Alexander Fuller

Maurice Alexander Fuller died Monday in Cushing. He was 6.

He was born Nov. 21, 1993, in Shawnee. He was the son of Robert Richardson and Zenobia Fuller.

Maurice was a resident of Stroud most of his life and a member of the Bethel AME Methodist Church in Chandler. He was in kindergarten at Stroud Elementary School.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his mother, Zenobia of Oklahoma City; sister, Lashaya Lachelle Fuller of Carson City, Calif.; grandmother, Catherine McFee of Stroud; two grandfathers, Essie Argrow of Stroud; James Fuller of Hugo; great-grandfather, James Seward of Stroud; great-great-grandparents, Willie D. and Gladys Baker of Idabel.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Parks Brothers Chapel in Chandler with the Rev. J. D. Moulden officiating. Burial will be in the Booker Cemetery south of Davenport, under the direction of Parks Funeral Home in Stroud.

Visitation will be until 9 p.m. Friday at Parks Funeral Home in Stroud.

David Glenn Morgan

David Glenn Morgan of Seminole died Wednesday at a local hospital. He was 77.

He was born Dec. 23, 1922, in Keeteton. He was the son of Sterling Morgan and Lula (Phillips) Morgan.

Morgan married Eunice Brewer on April 20, 1947, in Seminole. He worked as a machinist for Cornelison Engine from 1946 to 1985.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Morgan was a member of the First Baptist Church in Seminole.

Survivors include his wife, Eunice Morgan of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Priscilla and Bill King of Lindsay; two brothers, Jack Morgan of Seminole; Gerald Morgan of California; one sister, Imogene Gowen of Kansas and four grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Seminole with Dr. Kelvin Moseley officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Calvin Jones IV

Calvin Jones IV died Monday. He was 51.

Jones was born Dec. 2, 1949, in Shawnee to Jewel Dean and Calvin Jones III.

He attended Dunbar Elementary School in Shawnee and graduated from Shawneee High School. He attended Okmulgee Vocational School.

Jones was president of the NAACP in 1990 and worked with children in the Shawnee area. He owned and operated Shawnee Performance Garage for many years and attended Nelson Chapel C.M.E. Church, Shawnee.

He married Rania Williams, then later married Marva Lewis.

Survivors include three children, Sharee Jones; Felicia and Destiny Jones, both of Oklahoma City; his mother, Jewel Dean Jones, Shawnee; sister and brother-in-law, Loretta and Sam Maxie, St. Paul, Minn.; brothers, Victor Jones and Darnell Adamson, both of Shawnee; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Calvin Jones III, and a brother, Bobby Ray Jones.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Galilee Baptist Church, Shawnee, with the Rev. H.M. Burnett officiating. Burial will be at Earlsboro Cemetery under the direction of Temple and Sons Funeral Directors, Inc., Oklahoma City.

Ruby O. Corrick

Longtime Shawnee resident Ruby O. Corrick died Monday in a local hospital. She was 85.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Downtown Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Ron Baldridge will officiate assisted by the Rev. Leroy Kerbo.

She was born May 14, 1913, in Hayworth, Okla., to Dee and Claudia Cox. She was reared near Hayworth and Wynnewood and married David Ray Corrick in Wichita, Kan. She was a licensed practical nurse and worked at several nursing homes. She had lived in Shawnee for more than 57 years and was a member of Downtown Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Her parents, two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband, Ray Corrick, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Chris Sluder, Tyler, Texas; son, Carl David Corrick, Shawnee; seven grandchildren; four sisters, Gladys Newberry, Antioch, Calif.; Pauline Horky, Freeport, Texas; Vic Heath, Dallas, Texas; Cassie Hensley, Coalgate, and many other relatives.

Ethel Johnson Hull

Shawnee resident Ethel Johnson Hull died Sunday at a local nursing home. She was 90.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Joe Faircloth and the Rev. Sam Hendry officiating. Burial will be in Little Cemetery.

Mrs. Hull was born April 23, 1908, in Stronge City, Okla., to Thomas Loranze and Emma Cora (Nichols) Fifer. She married Edgar Thornton on April 30, 1926, in Tecumseh. She later married Arthur E. Hull on Sept. 2, 1977, in Shawnee.

She attended Keokuk Falls Schools and moved to Shawnee in June 1959. She was a homemaker and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Survivors include her four daughters and sons-in-law, Willie Mae and Dearrel Kezer, Colton, Calif., Evelyn and Bob Godfrey, Shawnee, Benita and Elmer Myrick and Carolyn and Bill Brewer, all of Midwest City; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Shirley Johnson, Shawnee; sister, Mae Luck, Odessa, Texas; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Edgar Thornton Johnson, on May 26, 1959; her second husband, Arthur E. Hull, on May 18, 1987; and grandson, Joey Don Godfrey, on Oct. 10, 1974.

Violet Gertrude Morris

Longtime Seminole resident Violet Gertrude Morris died Sunday at a local hospital. She was 81.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at First Baptist Church with Dr. Kelvin Moseley officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Mrs. Morris was born Feb. 16, 1917, in Missouri to George Oliver Franklin and Grace G. (Bracken). She married Marvin C. "Cub" Morris on Aug. 21, 1947, in Bentonville, Ark.

She retired from Mistletoe Express in 1989 and was a homemaker. She had lived in Seminole for 73 years and was a member of First Baptist Church of Seminole.

Survivors include her husband, M.C. "Cub" Morris; one son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Nancy Morris, Shawnee; and one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Leonard Myers, Moore; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Vernon and Beckie Franklin, Oklahoma City, and Dave and Donna Farrier, Lawrence, Kan.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Verna May and Winford Matthews, Seminole, and Veva and Joe Nelson, Prague; five grandchildren, Tony, Damon and Kendal Myers, and April and Brandi Morris; and one great-grandchild, Amanda Myers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Shawn Myers; sisters, Vivian Carpenter and Virginia Hack; and Don Franklin and Ethel Franklin.

Iris L. Cragg

Iris L. Cragg, 69, Midwest City, died Thursday.

She was born Nov. 25, 1929, in Pinehurst, Ga., to Claude Hudson and Eunice Eliza (Thompson) Hudson.

Her husband, Charles E. Cragg, preceded her in death.

Surviving are her son, Charles E. Cragg III; daughters, Charlene Brown, Cherrie James and Pam Cragg; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one brother, one sister and many others.

Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Prague United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Paylor Funeral Home of Midwest City. Memorial donations may be made to Cancer Treatment Center of Midwest City.

James J. Sexton

Tecumseh resident James J. Sexton died Sunday at his home. He was 73.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Brown Cemetery, west of Tecumseh, under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Scott Bates officiating.

Sexton was born Aug. 24, 1925, in Sasakwa to Alvin and Onnie (Hensley) Sexton.

He retired from Tinker Air Force Base, where he worked as a sheet metal mechanic. He served in the Marines Corps from December 1943 to April 1946 during World War II and also was in the Air Force Reserve.

He was a member of Blackburn Chapel Baptist Church and had lived in Tecumseh for the past 20 years.

Survivors include his daughter, Teresa Sexton, Midwest City; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Roy Santin, Midwest City; son, Kevin Sexton, Oklahoma City; son and daughter-in-law, James and Charlene Sexton, Corpus Christi, Texas; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; sister, Nadine Lawyer, Seminole; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Gary Sexton.

Julia Chloe Rhoads

1998's Oklahoma Federation of Indian Women "Woman of the Year" Julia Chloe Rhoads, formerly of White Eagle, died Thursday at an El Reno hospital at the age of 67.

Services were held following the traditional noon feast at Ponca Indian United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom Roughface officiating. Burial was in Ponca Indian Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel, Ponca City.

Julia Chloe Rhoads was the daughter of Francis Eagle and Alice McDonald Eagle and a member of the Ponca Tribe. She was the great-granddaughter of White Eagle, Hereditary Chief of the Poncas, and Chief Roughface, and the granddaughter of Louis McDonald of the Da-Wanoshes, Ponca Buffalo Police.

She married Arleigh R. Rhoads of the Cheyenne Tribe, on Jan. 20, 1952. She was educated at Fort Sill Indian School, Chilocco Indian School, Northern Oklahoma College, Ponca City School of Business Administration and St. Gregory's College.

She had worked as a legal stenographer for a private firm in Oklahoma City, secretary to the superintendent of Bureau of Indian Affairs of Pawnee Indian School, stenographer for the State Department of Child Welfare, appointment clerk for the Social Security Administration, secretary for U.S. Indian Health Service, branch chief of health education, clerk and bookkeeper for U.S. Department of Agriculture, agriculture conservation service. She also was executive secretary of Atkinson Industries and for the vice president of Allen Construction and Indian Community Coordinator for Title IV-A for Shawnee Public Schools.

She served two terms as treasurer for the Ponca Tribal business committee, was secretary for Indian Action board of directors in Shawnee, volunteer with Cheyenne-Arapaho Tribes elderly nutrition program, volunteer coordinator for cultural activities for Wa-hun-thinga Ponca Senior Citizens of White Eagle, and adviser for All Nations Indian Youth of Tulsa.

She was a reporter for Chilocco Indian School Journal and columnist for the Ponca City News and Clinton Daily News. She helped develop several Native American curriculum guide books.

She was the 1949 Ponca Princess, 1950 45th Infantry Division Lifetime Princess, 1982 Outstanding Administrator for National Indian Education Association, named to the National Chilocco Alumni Association Hall of Fame and awarded the Eagle Feather Pin for Oklahoma Federation of Indian Women. She also was a member of Oklahoma Council for Indian Education, Shawnee Head Start board and lifetime member of Oklahoma Federation of Indian Women.

She was a member of Clinton Indian United Methodist Church and former member of Ponca Indian United Methodist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents.

Surviving are her husband, Arleigh R. Rhoads, of the home in Clinton; daughter and family, Alice, Gary, Veronica, and Sterling, Tulsa; sons and families, Arlen, Carlotta, Brady and Julia of El Reno; Paul, Isaac, Augustus and Toby of Clinton, and adopted children, Walker family, James, Willard, Forrest, Lela, Mary Dora and Katherine, McLoud.

Vesta Pearl Latimer

Vesta Pearl Latimer of Ardmore, sister of June Cobb of Shawnee, died Saturday after an extended illness. She was 85.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church, Davis, with burial at Wynnewood Cemetery. The Rev. Lin Jones will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Krien Funeral Home of Davis.

She was born Aug. 12, 1913, at Wynnewood View, Okla., on the banks of Wildhorse Creek, to John Thomas and Maud (Suttle) Noland. She married O.W. "Mike" Latimer in 1940. She had lived most of her life in the Wynnewood area and moved to Ardmore five years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of Hickory Baptist Church where she taught Bible school and Sunday school.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Mike; seven grandchildren, Timothy Scott Wright, Brenda Gayle Remy, Kimberly Dean Latimer, Terry Wayne Corbett, Jarrod Michael Latimer, Clay and Rene Arnold; two brothers, Earl and Jack Noland, and two sisters, Velma Watson and Ada Lancaster.

She is survived by her eight children, Carlma Holder, National City, Calif., Ken Remy and Marilyn Edwards, both of Ardmore, Dennis Latimer and Becky Latimer, both of Oklahoma City, John Mike Latimer, Olympia, Wash., Sandra Corbett, Thackerville, Steve Latimer, Seagoville, Texas; 26 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Virgil and Dale Noland, both of Davis; and two sisters, Ruby Kennedy, Wynnewood, and June Cobb, Shawnee.
