Bessie L. Coley

Bessie L. Coley of Tecumseh died Sunday in Shawnee at the age of 93.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel in Tecumseh. Burial will be at Brown Cemetery.

She was born Jan. 17, 1906, in Pottawatomie County to Jim and Zora (Yarbrough) Shirey. She was reared in the OK community and was a graduate of Mount Zion Schools. She married Rube Coley at Old Burnett near Macomb in 1921 and he preceded her in death in 1968.

She had lived in Oakland, Calif., for 10 years and returned to Oklahoma City in 1945 where she lived until moving to Tecumseh in 1993.

She was a seamstress and a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Also preceding her in death were one son, J.L. Coley; her parents; four brothers; and three sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, June Hopper, Moore, and Norma Milsap, Tecumseh; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Angie Coley, Oklahoma City; sister, Carabea McLaughlin, Tecumseh; brother, Leon Shirey, Tecumseh; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Charles A. Bailey

Former Tecumseh resident Charles A. Bailey died Friday at Elmendorf Air Force Base Hospital in Alaska at the age of 78.

He was born May 11, 1920, in Tecumseh to Job and Mary Alice Fulton Bailey. He completed schooling through the fifth grade and served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946. He moved to Alaska in 1950 and resided near Wasilla. He worked as a welder and had been a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 367 since 1950 and had received a 50-year membership pin from the union. He also was affiliated with the union earlier in Amarillo, Texas.

He is survived by a sister, Delores Calder, Wasilla, Alaska; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Mary Bailey, Shawnee, and many other relatives, including a niece, Beverly Calder, Tecumseh, and nephew, Kenneth Bailey Jr., Shawnee.

Arrangements are under the direction of Valley Funeral Home of Wasilla, Alaska. No services are planned.

Edith F. Lemon

Edith F. Lemon died Friday in an Okemah nursing home at the age of 88.

She was born April 9, 1910, in Fort Smith, Ark., the daughter of Emmett E. Morris and Virginia Graham Morris. She married Frederic G. Lemon in June 1931 and he preceded her in death in 1968. She was retired as a dining room supervisor at Arkansas State Hospital.

She was a member of the Church of Christ in Okemah, Daughters of the American Revolution, and of the Arkansas, Oklahoma and Okfuskee County historical societies. She had lived in the Welty area.

Preceding her in death were her parents and two sisters, Helen Sniff and Virginia Coley.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Wendell Gary and Linda Lemon, Cabot, Ark.; daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and Zeek Henry, Welty; Rosemary and Dan Corley, Okemah; brothers, John E. Morris and Graham Morris, both of Bryant, Ark., four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were Monday at Needs Creek Cemetery, Greenbriar, Ark., under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Okemah. Bruce Green officiated.

Jesse N. Glass

Jesse N. Glass of McLoud died Friday in a local hospital at the age of 87.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with Clay Talton officiating. Burial will be at Jamison Cemetery, McLoud.

Jesse N. Glass was born June 1, 1911, at McLoud, the son of Frank and Mary Glass. He was a retired janitor and had been a minister of Jehovah's Witness most of his life. His parents preceded him in death.

Surviving are his sister, Bessie Glass, McLoud; cousins, Helen Dolans, Clovis, Calif., Elmer Lemons, Booneville, Calif., Moly Anderson and Cecil McGlothin, both of Mustang, and many other relatives.

Pearl L. Callahan

Pearl L. Callahan died Sunday in Agra at the age of 85.

She was born June 30, 1913, in Walden, Ark., the daughter of Robert and Betty (Martin) Smith. She married Henry Callahan on July 29, 1935, in Paris, Texas, and was a homemaker. They moved from Wynnewood to Agra in 1958.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Henry, in 1981; her parents; one sister, Verna Fitzhugh; and one brother, Perry Smith.

Surviving are four nephews, Charles G. Morgan, Midlothian, Texas, Floyd T. Smith, Skiatook, Gene Morgan, Buffalo, Texas, and Lloyd Smith, Victoria, Texas; six nieces, Ruby Jahnke, Lake Charles, La., Sylvia Sunkel, Houston, Texas, Nelda Morgan, Duncanville, Texas, May Turner, DeQueen, Ark., and Elsie Stout, Grand Prairie, Texas; Even Smith, Victoria, Texas, and many other relatives.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Carney Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Chandler. The Rev. Thom Chappelle will officiate.

Jerri Parris

Shawnee resident Jerri Parris died Tuesday in an Oklahoma City hospital. She was 74.

Mrs. Parris was born on May 10, 1925, in Shawnee, the daughter of Dock and Floy King.

She graduated from Shawnee High School, and married Guy Parris on July 11, 1944, in Augusta, S.C.

She retired from Tinker Air Force Base, and was a member of the Central Church of Christ, and a committee member of the class reunion of 1944.

Mrs. Parris was preceded in death by one son, Harold Parris; her parents, Dock and Floy King; three sisters, Juanita Kelly, Peggy Trammel and an infant sister; one brother, Charles King.

Survivors include her husband, Guy Parris, of the home; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Larry Parris, Shawnee; Gary and Doyla Parris, Waurika; James Parris, Shawnee; two daughters and a son-in-law, Kathy and David Fischer, Denton, Texas; Becky Parris, Broken Arrow; two brothers, James T. King, Tecumseh; Jack D. King, Choctaw; sister, Nina Mae Collum, Shawnee; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and as number of nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel in Shawnee, with Don Sullivan and Dwyane Dennis officiating.

Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park, under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Hazel F. Schwarz

Hazel F. Schwarz of Shawnee died Monday. She was 81.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Resthaven Memorial Park (Trinity Chapel) with Rev. Bill Matthews and Bro. Phil Thompson officiating, under the direction of Resthaven Memorial Park.

Austin Kidwell

Austin Kidwell died Monday at a Tulsa hospital. He was 73.

He was born March 5, 1926, in Dustin. He was the son of Elmer Kidwell and Effie May (Pendley) Kidwell.

Kidwell married Pauline Tatum on Aug. 6, 1968, in Hanford, Calif.

He was a veteran of the U.S. armed services, and was employed in the oilfield industry. He attended the Victory Christian Center, and had been a resident of Okfuskee county for 12 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters and two sons.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Kidwell of the home in Okemah; four sons, Johnny Kidwell and his wife, Sandy, of Okemah, Billy Kidwell and his wife, Linda, of Springdale, Ark., Leon Kidwell and his wife, Marsha, of Salem, Ore., and Jerry Kidwell of Okemah; one daughter, Deloris Kidwell of Wewoka, two stepsons, Johnny Ennis and wife Betty of Bakersfield, Calif., Jerry Ennis and wife Kathy of Thachipa, Calif.; four stepdaughters, Joyce Sanders and husband Kenneth of Lamont, Calif., Judy Waddell and husband Jim of Wetumka, Jenny Worell and husband Fred of Bakersfield, Calif., and Janet Camarillo, also of Bakersfield, Calif.; four brothers, Dale Kidwell and wife Javene of Bakersfield, Calif., Martin Kidwell and wife Phyllis of Sallisaw, George Kidwell and wife Deloris of Salenias, Calif., and Don Kidwell of Dibble; one sister, Betty Britt and husband Pete of Hoffman; 27 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and numerous sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Harelson officiating and Edna Tatum assisting. Burial will be at the Highland Cemetery in Okemah, under the direction of the Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah.

Iva Boles

Iva "Jean" Boles of Shawnee died Monday. She was 48.

She was born Sept. 22, 1951, in McAlester. She was the daughter of Robert and Argertha (Moton) Curtis.

She graduated from McAlester High School in 1969. She was a certified licensed practical nurse for Shawnee Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Boles was a member of the Church of Christ in McAlester and later became a member of St. John Baptist Church, Brooksville. She served on the Usher Board.

After high school she moved to Los Angeles, Calif.; and remained there until 1977. Some years later she moved back to Oklahoma and resided in Tecumseh until her death.

She began her career in the nursing field as a candy striper while still a teen-ager. She received her certificate as a licensed practical nurse (LPN) in 1986.

Mrs. Boles began working at Shawnee Regional Hospital in 1988 and remained there until her death. Prior to working at the hospital, she worked for the Shawnee nutrition site as a bookkeeper for several years.

Survivors include two daughters, Tonya "Toni" Curtis, Midwest City; Tamara "Tami" Curtis, Midwest City; three grandchildren, Shanika Washington, Jazmyn and Nathaniel Curtis, Midwest City; parents, Robert and Argertha Curtis, McAlester; four sisters, Zella and James Oliver, Tecumseh; Joyce Jones, Shawnee; Janice Caldwell, Shawnee; Vicki and Carl Ellis, Oklahoma City; three brothers, Victor and David Curtis, Oklahoma City; Kerry Curtis, Okmulgee; best friend, Reana McGee, Brooksville; a host of nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Lee Oliver officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. at Memory Gardens, McAlester.

Lawrence E. Stringer

Lawrence E. Stringer of Choctaw died Tuesday. He was 69.

He was born to Charles and Catherine (Beaver) Stringer Aug. 2, 1930, in Oakwood. He was a pipefitter for the C.M.I. Corporation.

Stringer was a deacon of the Solid Rock Community Church.

His parents and one brother, Charles, precede him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Donna of the home; two sons, Randy Stringer and wife Diane of Virginia; Phillip Stringer and wife Becky of Blanchard; three sisters, Elizabeth Tidball of Seiling; Mae Ellen Roper of Oakwood; Lohoma Barnett of Wilson; four grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many other family members and friends.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Solid Rock Community Church, Choctaw, with burial following at Sunny Lane Cemetery in Del City.

Arrangements directed by Asa Smith Funeral Service.

Ronald Elwyn Lee

Retired CW4 Army helicopter pilot Ronald Elwyn Lee, 52, Flour Bluff, Texas, died Sunday in a Corpus Christi hospital.

He was born Aug. 13, 1948, in Oklahoma City.

Lee lived most of his youth in Oklahoma. He and his first wife, Kathleen Stacey, had two daughters, Dawn and Julie.

He married his current wife, Rita, Feb. 24, 1979, in Stockton, Calif. Their children are Andrew, Paul, John and Jeannette Lee.

Lee and his wife moved in 1985 to Corpus Christi, Texas, where he became a safety officer and, later, a test pilot.

He worked for the Corpus Christi Army Depot for 16 years.

Lee served on active duty in the Army and was stationed at Fort Hood, Fort Rucker and Korea. He was also in the National Guard in Reno, Nev., and San Antonio, Texas, where he retired.

He was an active member of St. Paul The Apostle Catholic Church in Flour Bluff.

He was preceded in death by his father, James H. Lee.

Survivors include his wife, Rita; children, Dawn and David Broyles of Spencer, Dr. Julie Lee of Choctaw, Andrew, Paul, John and Jeannette Lee; parents, Edwinna and Dale Wittman of Shawnee; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, James M. Lee of Shawnee; Victor M. and Sharla Lee of Dale and Kendal and Kellie Lee of Shawnee; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Lorna and Pete Blochowiak of Shawnee; Judy and Eddie Aguirre of Tecumseh and Carla and Lonnie Carlon of McLoud; two grandchildren, Samuel and Solomon Broyles, both of Spencer, and other family members.

A rosary will be recited at 7:45 p.m. today at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.

Burial will follow in Memory Gardens. Flour Bluff-Padre Isles Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Corpus Christi, is in charge of arrangements.
