Minnie Rhoba (Brake) Henry

Minnie Rhoba (Brake) Henry, 98, of Stillwater, died Monday, May 1, 2006, in Stillwater.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Strode Funeral Home Chapel in Stillwater, with Pastor Bob Brown officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Stillwater.

She was born April 11, 1908, to George Oliver Brake and Edna Blanch (Flower) Brake, in Ripley. She attended school in Ripley and Perkins, graduating from Perkins High School. She also attended Oklahoma State University for one year and received her teacher's certificate from Warner Memorial University in Eastland, Texas.

On Dec. 26, 1936, she married Emmett Roy Henry in Stillwater. After their marriage, the couple lived in eastern Oklahoma for five years. Later they lived in Lela for one year and east of Stillwater for one year. They moved to San Francisco, Calif., in 1943 and returned to Stillwater in 1949. Emmett preceded her in death April 8, 1988.

She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, quilting, sewing and cooking (especially sugar cookies). She loved to care for her grandchildren, and she was a nursery worker and faithful member of the Stillwater Church of God of Anderson who loved to read her Bible. She was a salad maker at OSU Cordell Hall.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, one son, Roy Leon Henry; one daughter, Ina Marie Ewing; four brothers, Clarence Brake, Thomas Brake, Oliver Brake and David Brake and one sister, Edith McReynolds.

Survivors include six grandchildren, Ronald Henry and his wife, Leah, of Perkins, Roger Henry and his wife, Gale, of Stillwater, Everett Henry and his wife, Deanita, of Stillwater, Teresa Cota and her husband, Victor, of Denver, Colo., Karen Gonzalez and her husband, Luis, of Palestine, Texas and Sherry Beddow of Dallas, Texas; 15 great-grandchildren, one great great grandchild, one brother, Wayne Brake of Locust Grove and one daughter-in-law, Nelda Henry of Stillwater.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Henry, Roger Henry, Everett Henry, Larry Brake, Charles Brake and Joseph Myers.

Elmer E. "Bud" Endicott

Elmer E. "Bud" Endicott, longtime resident of Oilton, died on Friday, December 16, 2005 in Drumright at the age of 96 years.

The son of the late Jess Franklin Endicott and Alta May Doyle Endicott, Bud was born on April 11, 1909 in Girard, Kansas.

Bud was united in marriage to Emma Louise McCartney on March 6, 1937 in Drumright. She preceded him in death on October 25, 1973, and he retired from McBride Oil Company in 1974.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, cars and wolf hunting.

Bud is survived by nieces, Thelma Wright of Cushing, Marie Brandon of Oklahoma City, Ilene Williams of Skiatook; nephews, Jim Geyer of Oilton, Jerry Geyer of Drumright, Wayne Endicott of Oklahoma City, Don Vickers of Centralia; several great nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.

Services will be held Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. in the Memorial Chapel of the Davis Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in the Highland Cemetery at Oilton.

Joel W. Currier (vet)

Joel W. Currier, 77, retired refinery lab technician, died at his home in Cushing, on Monday.

The son of the late Lee M. Currier and Angie L. Henderson Currier, J.W. was born on Feb. 28, 1927 in Turney, Texas and was reared and educated in Maydele, Texas.

He was united in marriage to Catherine Louise Dixon on May 14, 1949 and to this union two children, Doug and Wes were born.

Following his retirement in 1989, the couple came to Cushing in Sept. of 1999 and had lived here since that time.

J.W. was a member of the First Baptist Church, and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Coast Guard and the United States Air Force.

Survivors include his wife of over 56 years, Louise of the home; two sons, Doug Currier and his wife Lauva of Seguin, Texas and Wes Currier and his wife Phyllis of Cushing; five grandchildren, Clint and his wife Chrisy, Clay and his wife Kathryn, Russell, Scarlett and Callie, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in the Davis Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Sonny Johnston officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairlawn cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Judith Karman Hospice, in his memory and forms may be picked up in the office of the Davis Funeral Home. Condolences may be e-mailed to the Currier family at davisFHCushing@sbcglobal.net. Services are under the direction of Davis Funeral Home.

Donald Earl Pound

Donald Earl Pound, 72, was born Feb. 26, 1931 in Oklahoma City to C.H. Nella Mae Pound. He departed this life on Oct. 3 in Phoenix, Ariz. He graduated from Cushing High School with the class of 1949.

He resided in Arizona for over three decades, and most recently in Goodyear. A Korean War veteran, and a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, 187th Regiment, Don made nine combat jumps into Korea and is a hero of that war.

He passed away surrounded by family and friends at Immanuel Care Hospice after a two-year battle with cancer.

He career in the Phoenix tire industry spanned 30 years. He enjoyed golf and off-road sports. A fiercely loyal man, Don was respected and loved for his generosity and integrity.

He is survived by his wife Carol (Jenne); brother Gene and his wife Nell of Deer Park, Texas; sister-in-law Betty Pound of Cushing; nephews Bob Brooks and wife Jennifer of Arizona, Jeff, and Rodney Pound of Texas, Scott Wood of Kansas and Harold (Hap) Wood of Texas; nieces Susan McFarland and her husband Kevin of California, and Cassie Kennedy and her husband Jack of Texas, Sherri Sperry, of Kansas and Tammy Snyder; as well as numerous great nieces, great nephews, and many friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, C.H. and Nella Mae (Ulrey); first wife Janeal Armstrong; his brothers L.H. (Bud) and Raymond; nephews Scott and Matt Sperry, and Terry and Steven Pound.

Cremation and private burial were followed by services Sunday, Oct. 12 at The Church at Litchfield Park, 300 N. Old Litchfield Rd. in Litchfield Park, Ariz. An hour of silent reflection and prayer with music began at 4 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 5 p.m. A reception followed at the Wigwam Resort.

At Don's request, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Litchfield Park Seventh Day Adventist Church, benefiting educational and children's programs, at P.O. Box 2078, Litchfield Park, AZ 85340.

Carl Edward Tarver

May 13, 1947 - March 29, 2005

Carl Edward Tarver died Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at the age of 57 years.

The son of Ray Carl Tarver and Juanita Lathrop Tarver, Carl was born on May 13, 1947 in Cushing and was reared and educated here, graduating from Cushing High School.

Carl met Linda Peterman at the Tarver Grocery Store and shortly after, on August 15, 1969 the couple was united in marriage, and to this union two children, Tracy and Reed were born.

Carl worked for Shell Pipeline for 27 years. He loved farming and ranching and he and Linda made a lifelong career out of their ranch west of Cushing. He was also involved as an auctioneer and considered his "Top Auction Company" as his family.

Carl was very active in the Big Creek Church of the Brethren where he enjoyed putting on his annual calf roast to which the entire community was invited.

He was a devoted and loving husband and father. He had one granddaughter, Jamie Dawn Tarver, who was the apple of his eye. He had many friends and family and had touched numerous lives throughout the community.

In addition to farming and ranching, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of over 35 years, Linda, of the home; his children, Tracy Harnisch and her husband William of Conifer, Colo.; one son, Reed Tarver of Dayton, Ohio; his mother, Juanita Tarver of Ripley; one brother Tom Tarver and his wife Flo, of Ripley; two sisters, Nancy Schlegel and her husband Gary, and Kathy Hanks and her husband Randy, both of Ripley; one grand-daughter Jamie Dawn Tarver; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Apr. 2, 2005 at 10 a.m. in the Big Creek Church of the Brethren with Reverend John Holderread, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Church Yard Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Carl's granddaughter, via, the Jamie Tarver education fund at Commercial Federal Bank in Cushing or to the Big Creek Church of the Brethren.

Services are under the direction of the Davis Funeral Home.
