Dora Jo Huggins
Shawnee resident Dora Jo Huggins died Monday in a local hospital. She was 82.
Mrs. Huggins was born on April 8, 1917, in Walnut Springs, Texas, to Joe and Flora Amelia (Young) Bradley.
She attended school in Texas and New Mexico.
She married Levi Nuckols on June 16, 1936, in Tucumcari, N.M. He preceded her in death. She later married A.B. Huggins on Nov. 10, 1957, in Okemah. He also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Huggins worked as an Avon sales representative for 25 years in Prague. She had lived in Shawnee for the past 13 years.
She was a longtime member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Prague, where she served as a Sunday school teacher in the nursery class.
Mrs. Huggins was a member of the Avon President's Club, and the Prague Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Flora Bradley; three sisters; a brother; a grandchild; and a great-grandchild.
Survivors include her three daughters and sons-in-law, Eugenia and Austin Batterton, Hartshorne; Kayron and Arthur Devereaux, Shawnee; Betty Jo and Clair Hehnly, Shawnee; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry James and Peggy Nuckols, Oklahoma City; four stepsons and five stepdaughters; 11 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Downtown Pentecostal Holiness Church with Eugenia Batterton officiating.
Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park, under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel, Shawnee.
Vernon Jackson Bell
Former Seminole resident Vernon Jackson Bell, Norman, died Monday in a Norman hospital. He was 86.
Bell was born Oct. 16, 1913, in Bethesda, Ark., the son of William Earl and Della (Ryan) Bell.
He married Ireta Otto, former Snomac postmaster, on May 14, 1943, in Snomac.
He worked in the oilfield, and was a longtime member of First Missionary Baptist Church.
Bell served with the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1942.
He had lived in Seminole since 1943, but lived for the past two years in the veterans center in Norman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Della Bell; two sisters; and a brother.
Survivors include his wife, Ireta Bell, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Dolores Bell, Bartlesville; daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Gene Darr, Noble; three grandchildren, Becky and Scott Bell, and Trey Darr; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First Missionary Baptist Church with Elder Tom Tripp and Elder Scott Lenaburg officiating.
Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Zevert Z. Davis
Zevert Z. Davis died Monday in his Shawnee home. He was 91.
He was born Jan. 24, 1910, in Heavener, Okla., the son of William Lon Davis and Maggie Ann (Wisdom) Davis.
Davis, a farmer, worked for Wilson's Packing Company for 25 years.
On Aug. 13, 1933, he married Ruby Eunice Adams.
Davis served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Hornet before being honorably discharged Nov. 20, 1945. After the military, he moved to Okemah, then to Oklahoma City. He had lived in Shawnee for the past three years.
Preceding him in death were his wife; his parents; two sisters, Willie Phillips and Mary Baker, and his brother, Owen Davis.
Survivors include his daughter, Irene Belt-Guinn of Shawnee; two sons, Don Ray Davis of Chesapeake, Va., and Harold Z. Davis of Napa, Calif.; five grandsons, Bryan, David, Mason, Jessee and Jason; three granddaughters, Brenda, Beverly and Kristi, and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Michael W. McCauley will officiate and burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery in Oklahoma City.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Shawnee, 1102 W. MacArthur, Shawnee.
Marvin Claude Ledford
Lifelong Shawnee resident Marvin Claude "Pete" Ledford, 70, died Tuesday in his home.
He was born Dec. 1, 1930, in Shawnee, the son of Claude A. and Anna Bell (Johnson) Ledford.
A cemeteryemployee for 22 years, Ledford was retired from the Parks and Recreational Department of Shawnee.
On Nov. 12, 1955, he married Ora Mae Goodnight.
Ledford was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death were his wife, parents and two brothers, Ted Ledford and Walter Ledford.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Douglas Marvin Ledford and James Hobson and Lori Ledford, all of Shawnee; a daughter and son-in-law, Twila Faye and Tim Hawkins of Tecumseh; two brothers, Fred Ledford and Harry Ledford, both of Shawnee, and grandchildren, Canbrea Ledford, Brandon Ledford, Oran Ledford, Scott Hawkins, Amanda Hawkins and Christi Hawkins.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Fairview Cemetery. Dr. Montie Campbell will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.
Joe B. Bailey
Former Macomb resident Joe B. Bailey died Saturday in a Long Beach, Calif., hospital He was 77.
Bailey was born in Macomb on Oct. 16, 1924, the son of Bill and Eula (Hamilton) Bailey.
He served in the U.S. Navy on a carrier in the Pacific Ocean during World War II. After he was discharged, he lived in Norman. He attended the University of Oklahoma for one year.
Bailey moved in 1947 to Bell, Calif., where he was a used car salesman with his uncle, Herman Hamilton. Bailey later owned and operated P and J Used Cars in Bell.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Survivors include his daughters, Judy Morris of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Patti Sigler of Dewey, Ariz.; five grandchildren, and his cousins, Betty Elkins of Tecumseh, Fred Williams of Shawnee, Ferrell Williams of Macomb and Maryana Tate of Shawnee.

Betty Jean (Walker) Haws
Lifelong Maud area resident Betty Jean (Walker) Haws died Tuesday at Presbyterian Hospital in Oklahoma City at the age of 74.
She was born Aug. 3, 1926, in Punkin Center, east of Maud, the daughter of Robert Lee Walker and Nelia (Rogers) Walker. She graduated from Wolf High School in 1945.
On June 23, 1946, she married Buddy Lewis Haws.
Mrs. Haws, a homemaker, was a member of Maud First Baptist Church.
Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, a brother, two sisters and three sons-in-law.
Survivors include her five children and their spouses, Gloria and Grady Stalnaker, James and Becky Haws, Sharon and Don Stewart, Gayla and Jon Cotterman and Debbie Blackwell, all of Maud; 14 grandchildren, Neal Hale, Terry Hale, Brian Haws, Jeff Haws, Jackie Gamble, LaChrisa Gamble, Kevin Stewart, Tracy Johnson, Heather Sweet, Jennifer Ramer, Keith Cotterman, Amanda Blackwell, Buddy Blackwell and Courtney Blackwell; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alma Martin of Seminole and Lois Tucker of Maud; sister-in-law, Marie Walker of Oklahoma City, and many other relatives.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Maud First Baptist Church. The Rev. Carl Whitfield will officiate and burial will be in Cummings Cemetery in Maud. Knight Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Angela (Obsivac) Jerabek
Angela M. (Obsivac) Jerabek died Wednesday in Oklahoma City. She was 83.
She was born June 10, 1917, in Prague, the daughter of Michael and Cecilia (Kuban) Obsivac. She graduated from Paden High School.
On June 10, 1940, she married Joseph John Jerabek, who preceded her in death Oct. 26, 1998. The couple lived in the Fort Worth/Dallas, Texas, area for 43 years, returning to Prague in 1981.
She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Prague. Mrs. Jerabek was also a member of the Catholic Daughters, the KJZT Lodge and was active in numerous parishes throughout her life. She worked in alter societies and volunteered at Catholic schools.
Preceding her in death were her parents.
Survivors include her daughter, Angela Marguerite Paramore of Prague; two grandchildren, Gregory Kirbie of Prague and Angie Youngblood of New Orleans, La.; one great-granddaughter, and sister, Marie Bartosh of Prague.
A wake service will be 7 p.m. Friday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel, Prague. Mass of the Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Adrian Vorderlandwehr, O.S.B., officiating. Burial will follow in the Catholic Cemetery in Prague.
Henry Blanchard
Henry "Butch" Blanchard, Oklahoma City, died Tuesday in Oklahoma City at the age of 54.
He was born Aug. 25, 1946, in Shawnee, the son of John Henry and Pauline Winona (Longhorn) Blanchard.
He grew up in Pink and attended Tecumseh schools, graduating in 1964. He attended Haskell Indian College for two years.
Blanchard worked for Western Electric in the early 1970s. A resident of Oklahoma City for more than 15 years, he was an electronics technician for Lucent Technologies at the time of his death.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1966-68.
Blanchard was a member of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe.
Survivors include his parents of Tecumseh; three brothers and a sister-in-law, John Michael and Radonna Blanchard of Shawnee, Ervin Lee Blanchard and Reuben Caleb Blanchard, both of Tecumseh; a sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and Wesley Perryman of Newalla; five nephews, one niece and many other relatives.
Tribal rites will be held Thursday evening at Little Axe Tribal Community Center with Don White officiating. Burial will be Friday morning at the Absentee Shawnee Tribal Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
Madeline Geraldine (Hayes) Conner
Wewoka resident Madeline Geraldine (Hayes) Conner, 76, died Tuesday at Holdenville General Hospital.
She was born June 16, 1924, to William Charlie Hayes and Martha Jane (Ashlock) Hayes in McCawber, Okla. Mrs. Conner attended elementary school in McCawber. She graduated from Paden High School in 1944.
On June 17, 1944, she married George Conner in Okemah.
She moved from Welty, Okla., to Wewoka in 1959. Mrs. Conner was a member of Grant Chapel Methodist Church in Welty.
Preceding her in death were her husband; parents; her sister, Vernia Rice, and two brothers, Leo Hayes and Albert Hayes.
Survivors include two sons, George Conner Jr. of Shawnee and Gary Conner of Wewoka; her grandson, Donald Conner of Shawnee; three sisters, Ancy Isbell of Oklahoma City, Loretta Adams of Oklahoma City and Venita Cresap of Shawnee; brother, Adrian Hayes of Manahands, Texas; two stepchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren and several other relatives.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Stout Funeral Home Chapel, Wewoka. The Rev. Dan Factor will officiate. Burial will be at Grant Chapel Cemetery in Welty, Okla.
