Gladys Bee Bullard

Shawnee resident Gladys Bee (Summers) Bullard died Wednesday in Oklahoma City. She was 70.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Richard Stillwell officiating. Burial will be in Little Cemetery.

Mrs. Bullard was born July 13, 1928, in Seminole to J.G. Summers and Jessie Lee (Dillard) Summers. She married Delbert Allen Bullard July 16, 1943, in Richmond, Calif.

She had lived in Shawnee since 1959 and retired from Southwestern Bell in 1983 after 24 years. She was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church in Earlsboro and was also a member of Telephone Pioneers.

Survivors include her husband, Delbert Bullard, of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Sandra Bullard, Shawnee; Victor and LaQueta Bullard, Marietta; daughter and son-in-law, Sherrian and Melvin Carter, Shawnee; sister, Lois Wilkerson, Seminole; sisters-in-law, Hazel Summers, Seminole; Sandra Costa, Martinez, Calif.; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; and two sisters.

Gordon Eugene Turner

Former Harrah resident Gordon Eugene "Gene" Turner died Wednesday in Sapulpa. He was 70.

Turner was born Dec. 4, 1928, in Granite to George Everette and Emma Mae (Owen) Turner. He was raised in Blair and lived in Harrah before moving to Meeker in 1950.

He was a Baptist, and was a 32nd-Degree Mason in both the Meeker and Guthrie Lodge. He retired from OG&E, Horseshoe Lake Division, where he worked as a shift supervisor.

Surviving are his son, Larry Turner and Sue, Winter Springs, Fla.; a daughter, Sue Keys and Delbert, Keifer, Okla.; sister, Claudine Whitt, Meeker; three granddaughters, Jennifer and Julia Turner, Winter Springs, Fla.; and Jessica Turner, Lynchburg, Va.; three grandsons, Preston and Wesley Keys of Keifer, Okla.; and Clayton Keys, Camp LeJeune, N.C.; three great-grandchildren, Haley Woods, Sierra Keys, and Brooklyn Keys, all of Keifer.

Graveside services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Memory Lane Cemetery in Harrah with the Rev. Gary Eubanks officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service.

Roman Hulbutta

Roman Hulbutta, Wewoka, died Wednesday. He was 62.

He was born Oct. 9, 1936, to Johnson and Sallie Hulbutta in Seminole County.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Raymond Hulbutta; and one step-son, Jimsey Hulbutta.

Surviving are his brothers, Ramsey Hulbutta, Geary; Johnny Hulbutta, Wewoka; Paul Hulbutta, Wewoka; Ronnie Hulbutta, Holdenville; sisters, Nancy Hulbutta, Wewoka; Semaria Grass, Wewoka; Nelsie Yargee of Shawnee; grandchildren, Shyla and Chevez Jones of Shawnee; great-grandchildren, R.J Ataddletty and Oshea Jones of Shawnee; other relatives and friends.

Wake services were held 6 p.m. Thursday at Stout Chapel and the procession to Sand Creek Eufaula Church will begin on 4 p.m. Friday.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Sand Creek Eufaula Church with the Rev. Freeman Whitlock and Rev. Thomas Billie officiating. Burial will be at Tiger Cemetery under the direction of Stout Funeral Home.

Alexander Gregg Cooper

Alexander Gregg Cooper of Oklahoma City died Friday at a local nursing home. He was 76.

He was born Nov. 2, 1923, in Frederick. He was the son of Alexander Garrett Cooper and Esther (May) Cooper.

Cooper was a graduate of Shawnee High School. He was an electrical lineman and he retired after 38 years of service.

He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). Cooper was married on Dec. 6, 1945, to June Williams in Shawnee.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Cooper was a Christian and a Baptist. He had lived in Oklahoma City for the past 40 years and the last two months in Shawnee.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ernest Gregg Cooper and Debby Cooper, Arlington, Texas; Gary Brant Cooper, Dallas, Texas; nine grandchildren, Patrick Cooper, Wendi June Cooper Smith, Mickey Casey Cooper, Christopher Dale Cooper, Sarah Kathleen Cooper, Megan Elizabeth Cooper, Matthew Lewis, Daniel Lewis and Kimberly Lewis; one brother and sister-in-law, James Edward and Betty Cooper, Perryton, Texas; four sisters, Mary Cooper McClure of Midwest City; Eloise Cooper McMurtrey of Duncan; Elaine Cooper Ellis of Shawnee and Margaret Cooper Wilson of Oklahoma City and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Joe D. Finn officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

The family has designated Hospice of Shawnee as appropriate for memorial contributions.

Lynn Matthesen

Lynn Matthesen of Meeker died Friday. He was 84.

He was born June 2, 1915, in the Moore area, where he was a dairy farmer for many years. In 1959, he moved the dairy to the Meeker area.

He married his high school sweetheart, Minnie Lou, Jan. 22, 1937. They were married for 63 years and belonged to the Road Runner Camper Club.

Survivors include his wife, Minnie Lou; three children and a son-in-law, Don Matthesen, Lurene Stigler, Karen and Richard Belcher; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; one brother and three sisters.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the Vondel L. Smith and Son Mortuary, 6934 S. Western, Oklahoma City. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the South Colonial Chapel. Burial will be at the Moore City Cemetery under the direction of Vondel L. Smith and Son Mortuary, Oklahoma City.

Katie Francis Cannon Marler

Longtime Maud resident Katie Francis Cannon Marler died Friday at Maud nursing home. She was 82.

She was born July 13, 1917, in Russellville, Ala., to Luther Thompson and Martha Smith. She moved to the Maud area as a child from Alabama.

She married Lee Cannon. He died June 1982 in Maud. She married Gilbert Marler Nov. 5, 1986.

Mrs. Marler was a homemaker and a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Maud.

Survivors include her husband, Gilbert Marler, of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronney and Jennie Cannon, Oklahoma City, and Joe and Kay Cannon, McAlester; granddaughters and grandson-in-law, Melanie Gorelick, Oklahoma City, and Kristalyn and Graylan Stewart, Oklahoma City; grandsons and granddaughter-in-law, Clendon Cannon and Daro Cannon, both of McAlester, and Micah and Sheila Rone, Oklahoma City; two stepdaughters and their husbands, Claudine and Ron Morris, Ada, and Kay and Don Clark, Tulsa; numerous nieces and nephews; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Maud. Burial will be at Maud Cemetery under the direction of Criswell Funeral Home of Ada. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Criswell Funeral Home in Ada and 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at Knight Funeral Home in Maud.

Gerald L. Allison

Gerald L. Allison, 59, Wellston, died Friday at his residence.

He was born May 27, 1940, in Greeley, Colo., to Lyle William and Loyette Eileen (Conner) Allison.

He went to school at South High in Lakewood, Calif. He worked in auto body repair. He was baptized into the Evangelistic Church in 1952.

Allison lived in the Wellston area since 1997.

Survivors include his son, Butch; daughter, Christina; three brothers and their spouses, Steve and Lois Gilliam, California; Shawn and Melissa Begley, Wellston, Scott Begley, Oklahoma City; sister, Sherri Begley, California; and a number of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A private burial will be at Neal Cemetery east of Shawnee under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Katherine Deloris (Hargus) Griffith

Macomb resident Katherine Deloris (Hargus) Griffith died Friday in Shawnee. She was 69.

She was born July 2, 1930, in Shawnee to Dave Logan Hargus and Ollie Maggie Ozment.

She married Clarence Griffith in 1947 in Oklahoma City. He preceded her in death in 1960.

Mrs. Griffith graduated from Macomb High School and grew up in the Romulus area. She lived in the Macomb area most of her life. She was a homemaker and participated in Community Action for many years.

She also was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Speedy Griffith.

Survivors include her daughter, Clarice Griffith, Macomb; sons and daughter-in-law, David and Melissa Griffith, Macomb, and Gary Griffith, Macomb; granddaughter, Jane Hacker; grandsons, Shane Griffith, Clint Griffith, Derrick Griffith and Craig Griffith; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom and Melba Hargus, Bethel, Pete Hargus, Tecumseh, Charley and Mary Jo Hargus, St. Louis, and Ronnie and Pat Hargus, Pearson; sisters and brother-in-law, Pauline and Cade Boepple, Covington, and Velta Faye Duvall, Paris, Ark.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Romulus Cemetery with Ruby Nell York officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Kenneth E. Blackwell

Shawnee resident Kenneth E. Blackwell died Friday at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was 68.

He was born June 6, 1931, in Cadiz, Ohio, to John Ray Blackwell and Iva (Hurless) Blackwell.

He married Rose Marie Fleming Feb. 22, 1957, in Oklahoma City.

He graduated from Cadiz (Ohio) High School. He later graduated cum laude with an education degree from Central State University in Edmond.

He retired from teaching after 10 years at Monroney Junior High, where he taught industrial education. Prior to teaching, he worked for 23 years as an air traffic controller, retiring in 1974.

He served for four years in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

He lived in Shawnee since 1980, and prior to that, he lived in Amhearst, Ohio, for 19 years.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Marie Blackwell, of the home; daughters and son-in-law, Lisa and Mitchell Kerley, Houston, Texas, and Suzanne Blackwell, Shawnee; sons and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Pam Blackwell, Shawnee, and Keith Blackwell, Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Cody Blackwell, Tara Blackwell and Jocelyn Blackwell; aunt, Ruth Bishop, Navarre, Ohio; three nephews, Mark Blackwell, Steve Blackwell and David Blackwell; and a number of other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, the Rev. William Blackwell.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Resthaven Funeral Home. Burial was at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Jean Frances Stevens

Jean Frances Stevens, Bethel Acres, died Tuesday in a Midwest City hospital. She was 59.

She was born in Wanette on Sept. 16, 1939, to Louis Franklin and Minnie Mae1w (Wallace) Bentley.

She married Walter Stevens on Dec. 30, 1957, in Durant. She was a member of the Wallace Avenue Baptist Church, and had lived in Shawnee since 1977. Prior to that time, she and her husband, who was in the military, lived in El Paso, Texas, and Omaha, Neb.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Surviving are her husband, Walter Stevens; a son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Carol Stevens, Del City; a daughter, Deborah J. Thraser, Lancaster, Calif.; a brother and sister-in-law, Roland J. and Clarissa Bentley, Salinas, Calif.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Frankie Jo and Alfred B. Van Schuyver, Wanette; Lavern B. and William W. Smith of Oklahoma City; and Pauline and Eugene L. Nail, Asher; four grandsons, and two granddaughters.

The family has designated the American Cancer Foundation as appropriate for memorials.

Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Wallace Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. DuWayne Colvin and Rev. Leroy Rice and Rev. Archie Beller officiating.

Burial is at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.
