Lina Piccini Jones

Lina Piccini Jones of Shawnee died Friday. She was 78.

She was born in Pisa, Italy, on Nov. 9, 1920, to Giuseppe and Genni (Panchetti) Piccini.

She moved to Florence, Italy, in 1930 following the death of her mother and brother. She attended the Design Institute of Florence in 1936 where she studied dress design. She was a tailor and was employed at Pierre's Cleaners until her retirement in 1990.

She married Lewis "Casey" Jones in 1945 in Florence, Italy, and came to America as a war bride.

She and her three children traveled throughout Europe and America during her husband's career as an NCO in the United States Air Force. She and her family moved to Shawnee in 1960 after her husband retired from the Air Force.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lewis "Casey" Jones; and her brother, Renato Piccini.

Surviving are two daughters and one son-in-law, Jenny Adkison of Shawnee and Jo Ann and Gary Gilley of Shawnee; a son and daughter-in-law, Lewis and Dee Jones of Edmond; grandchildren, Brian Gilley of Tulsa, Shawn Adkison of Oklahoma City, Jennifer Gilley of Norman and Grace and Casey Jones of Edmond; a great-granddaughter, Aurianna Oricchio-Gilley of Oklahoma City; a brother and sister-in-law, Egisto and Ilva Piccini of Florence, Italy; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Cecil and Louise Johnston and Jamie and Winona Jones of Shawnee; nephews, Renato Piccini and Massimo Piccini of Florence, Italy; niece, Patricia Smith of Tecumseh; special friends, Ada and Stanley Taucer of Shawnee; and many other nieces and nephews.

Wake services were held 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Benedict Catholic Church with Father Lawrence Stasyszen, O.S.B., officiating. Burial is at Calvary Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Ramona Ann Vaulkner

Ramona Ann Vaulkner of Shawnee died Sunday in an Oklahoma City hospital. She was 44.

She was born April 22, 1954, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Quito John and Elizabeth Katherine (Altenhofel) Bessler. She attended Warren High School in Downey, Calif., and a college in Southern California at Cerritos.

She was homemaker, a retired professional driver and manager of an interstate trucking company.

She married Gene Vaulkner and they lived together for 17 years.

She served as conductress for Murrow Chapter No. 464 of Shawnee, was a board member for Shawnee Rainbow Assembly No. 2 and worked in rebuilding the youth organizations of the Masonic Lodge.

She and her husband drove as a team for many years in the trucking industry. They were runners-up for Overdrive magazine's Trucker of the Year and awarded Trucker of the Month in September 1992. She received many awards for safety and performance throughout her career.

She was preceded in death by her father, Quito John Bessler.

Surviving are her husband, Gene Vaulkner of the home; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Amanda Vaulkner of the home, Mary and Bill Colvin of Maud and Cathy and Carl Carter of California; her mother, Elizabeth K. Bessler of California; a brother and his family, James Bessler of California; a sister and her family, Laquita Bessler of California; a grandson and his family, Dan Wright of Georgia; aunt, Edna Trauyott of Elk City; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with Jim Kirkendall officiating. Private burial will be at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

G. P. "Park" Elerick

Glen Park Elerick of Prague died Monday. He was 88.

Elerick was born Sept. 30, 1910, the son of George W. Elerick and Blanche (Shell) Elerick. He married Bernice Cole on Sept. 10, 1929, in Jones. He retired from Progress Brewing Company, after working in the sales department for more than 30 years. He had made his home in Prague since 1978, moving here from Warner, Okla. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Prague.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1996; his parents; one son; and three brothers.

Surviving include one daughter and a son-in-law, Cheryl and Merlin Short of Prague; one daughter-in-law, Patsy Elerick Weedn of Guthrie; a brother, Ellis Elerick of Camarillo, Calif.; five grandchildren and their spouses, Lisa and Ernie Eastep, Tim and Heather Short; Holly Bryant; Tracie and Steve Hawes and Stacie and Bobby Price; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Prague with the Rev. Don Campo officiating. The casket will remain open for viewing until service time. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery in Oklahoma City. Services are under the direction of Parks Brother Funeral Home in Prague.

Ina Wilsie Minnick

Former Seminole resident Ina Wilsie Minnick died Monday. She was 87.

She was born in Paradise, Texas, on Aug. 5, 1911, to James Franklin Bray and Julia (Ozment) Bray.

She was a longtime Maud resident, a homemaker and was affiliated with the Assembly of God Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenyon Minnick, on Sept. 5, 1993; her first husband, Marvin Wilsie in 1952; and one son, Richard Wilsie in 1964.

Surviving include a son, Harold Wilsie of Minneapolis, Minn.; a daughter, Carmen Wilcox of Nacogdoches, Texas; four grandchildren and their spouses, Anna Wilsie of Tecumseh, Don Wilcox of San Diego, Calif., James and Karen Wilcox of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, and Lynn and Don Willard of Monett, Mo.; 10 great-grandchildren; and a stepdaughter, Sharon Minnick.

The family will receive guests Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the service.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Art Coffey officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Mission Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Elsie L. Sparkman

Elsie L. Sparkman of Tecumseh died Monday. She was 79.

She was born Dec. 8, 1919, in Idabel to Benjamin Franklin and Martha Louisa Crank Jones. She graduated from Shawnee High School and went to business college in Shawnee.

She married O.L. Sparkman in Chandler on June 8, 1939.

She lived in Shawnee most of her life, was a member of the Broadway United Methodist Church and was a Sunday school teacher for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Surviving are her husband, O.L. Sparkman; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Suzanne Sparkman of Chula Vista, Calif., and Patrick and Sharon Sparkman of Tecumseh; a brother, Kenneth W. Jones of Shawnee; a sister, Clarice Kenney, of Amarillo, Texas; grandchildren, Kristie Sparkman, Sean Sparkman, Summer Sparkman, Chance Sparkman and Braeden Sparkman.

Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at the Resthaven Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Mike Craig officiating. Burial is at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Ella L. Lowe

Ella (Eller) L. Lowe of Prague died Monday. She was 92.

She was born Aug. 21, 1906, in Leslie, Ark., to Adam Wiley and Martha A. (Denney) Lowe. She lived in the Prague area most of her life and was a charter member of the Garden Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She joined the church in July 1918.

She was active in the Garden Grove Ladies Aide society, was a cafeteria cook at Garden Grove School and retired from the Prague School System in 1978 after 16 years of service. She was head cook at one time.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her sister, Ethel Coomer; a nephew; and one great-nephew.

Survivors include four nieces and three nephews, LaVerne and Dwight Montgomery of Prague, LaVon and Louise Coomer of Prague, Hershel and Joan Coomer of Shawnee, and Irene Coomer of Prague; 10 great-nieces and nephews; 17 great-great-nieces and nephews; 2 great-great-great-nieces and one great-great-great nephew.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Garden Grove Missionary Baptist Church near Prague with Bro. Mack Pearcy and Bro. Tim Quick officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden Grove Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague.

Pearl Elrod

Pearl Elrod of Moore died March 4. She and her twin, Earl, were born June 18, 1906, to John and Nellie Thompson west of Tecumseh, where she grew up.

She moved to California in 1944 where she met and later married John Elrod on July 5, 1950, in Tryon, Neb.

The Elrods moved to Moore, Okla., in 1989 to be near her niece, Wanda Waddle.

She was preceded in death by her husband in November 1998.

Surviving are a sister-in-law, Floy Jarzabek of Bakersfield, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews; fellow church members and many friends.

Funeral services were held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at May Avenue Wesleyan Methodist Church with Pastor John Homer officiated. Burial followed at Tecumseh City Cemetery.

Services and arrangements were under the direction of John M. Ireland Funeral Home and Chapel in Moore.

Jean Santelli

Former Shawnee resident Jean Santelli of Mustang died Monday. She was 71.

She was born July 20, 1927, to Manley and Eva Lillie Foreman in Tupelo, Okla. She was a professional saleswoman, and in her later years, was a nurse tech for Home Health. She was a musician.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Dick Santelli; her parents; two brothers, Clinton Foreman and Winford Foreman; and one grandson, Sean Ware.

She is survived by her son, Gary Ware of Mustang; a daughter, Tanja Lansberg of Ozark, Mo.; one brother, Madison Foreman; and three sisters, Lina Sanders, Leona Hair and Faye Slover; two grandchildren, Nicholas Lansberg and Shanna Lansberg; and one great-grandchild, Michael Ware.

Chapel services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Bill Merritt Funeral Service Chapel in Mustang. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. at Byrd's Prairie Cemetery in Tupelo, Okla. Arrangements under the direction of Bill Merritt Funeral Service of Mustang.

Robert A. Taron, Sr.

Former Shawnee resident Robert A. Taron, Sr. of Jamul, Calif., died Wednesday, March 3. He was 69.

He was born Oct. 12, 1929, in Shawnee to Pierre Taron Sr., and Lelia (Kirkman) Taron. At the age of 17, he joined the Air Force, serving 20 years as a pilot, training fighter pilots for combat. He retired a captain in the U.S. Air Force and went to work as a commercial pilot for P.S.A. Airlines, stationed out of San Diego, Calif. He retired from P.S.A. in 1989.

He married Barbara Tate in Omaha, Neb. He was a member of the Kiwanis, Knights of Columbus, Community Riders and co-founder of Oktoberfest Fair.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara; two brothers, Pierre Taron Jr. and Bernard Taron; and two sisters, Louise and Virginia.

Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Christopher Taron of Jamul, Calif., Robert and Lynn Taron of San Diego, Calif., and David and Elizabeth Taron of Nashville, Tenn.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Ron Finnegan of Bethesda, Md. and Sherilyn and Robert Williams of Nokesville, Va.; five grandchildren; four sisters, Anna Johnson of Worthington, Ohio, Mary Williamson of Tucson, Ariz., Katherine Mullin of Denver City, Texas, and Joan Jackson of Rush Springs, Okla.; four brothers, Joe Taron, Jim Taron, Leonard Taron and Tim Taron, all of Shawnee.

Station of the Cross followed by a Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Friday at St. Benedict Catholic Church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Venkatesh R. Nevrekar

Venkatesh R. Nevrekar died Tuesday, March 9, at the age of 59.

He was born July 5, 1939, in Madkai, Goa, India.

He graduated with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Birla Institute of Technology in Ranchi, Bihar, India. He later earned his MBA in Jamshedpur, Bihar, India.

He was employed by TELCO under TATA-Mercedes Benz in Jamshedpur. Upon coming to the United States in 1971, he earned his master's degree in mechanical engineering from Cooper Union in New York City.

After marrying Lila Kamat, he worked for Proctor and Gamble in Cincinnati, Ohio. He earned his second MBA from The University of Oklahoma in 1977.

Nevrekar lived in Shawnee for 24 years. He was an entrepreneur, financial consultant and inventor. He owned and operated Budget Printing for many years and briefly worked at Barton Valve. Nevrekar received numerous valve patents for a project currently under way in Goa, India. The project is aimed at fulfilling his aspirations of bringing advanced technology, education and job opportunities to the community where he was reared.

Survivors are his wife of 28 years, Lila Nevrekar of the home; daughters, Dipti and Priya Nevrekar, both of Shawnee; sister and brother-in-law, Pramodini and Vasudeva G. Shenoi of Torrington, Conn.; nieces, Sheela and Hema Shenoi of Torrington; nephew, Sunil Shenoi of Torrington; sisters, Prafulla, Pratibha, Lata, Nisha and Bharati, all of India; brother, Vinay Nevrekar of India; and many other relatives.

Memorial and cremation services will be held this afternoon at Vondel L. Smith Crematorium, Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Brain Tumor Association.

Susie Juanita Hackett

Susie Juanita "Sue" Hackett of Shawnee died Sunday in a local nursing home at the age of 82.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Rusty Williams officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

She was born in Shawnee on Sept. 30, 1916, the daughter of Lonnie LeRoy and Lola Bell (Hall) Hackett. She attended Shawnee schools. She married Eddie McDonald in 1944 and they lived in Fort Worth, Texas. She retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. after 30 years of service and also worked for several years at the Unique Shoppe in Shawnee. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, American Association of Retired Persons and Telephone Pioneers Club.

Preceding her in death were her parents; a brother, Edgar LeRoy Hackett, and three sisters, Loretta Johnson, Vera Parthena Clark and Forrest B. "Rita" Doerge.

Surviving are her half brothers and sisters-in-law, Elwood and Ovella Hackett, Oklahoma City, and S.D. and Laquita Hackett, Shawnee; half sisters and brothers-in-law, Adriane and Alfred Bryce, Shawnee, and Darleene and Jim Shehi, Springfield, Mo.; nieces and nephews, Jane Anita and Bill Jones, Federal Way, Wash., Donna Kay and Jerry Mitchell, Bedford, Texas, and Charles Keith Clark, El Reno, and many other relatives.

Memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church.
