Francis Cleamont Space

Francis "Frank" Cleamont Space of Wanette died Thursday in Purcell. He was 89.

He was born April 5, 1910, in Ivanhoe, Okla., to Clearence Cleamont and Lillie Jane (Ools) Space.

He married Estella Mae Thornbrue May 21, 1931. They were married 43 years before she preceded him in death in March 1975. He married Bertha Tasier July 19, 1976, in Shawnee. She also preceded him in death.

Space also was preceded in death by his parents, Clearance and Lillie Space; an infant son, Harold; a brother, Emit Space; seven sisters, Violet, Lucy, Leona, Hazel, Nellie, Grace and Annie; a granddaughter, Paula Hysell; and two grandsons, Randy Space and Michael Bell.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Alonzo Tasier, Shawnee; sons and daughters-in-law, Clearence and Eveline Space, Wanette, and Earnest and Shirley Space, Norman; granddaughters, Kathy Bell, Claudia Smith, Carla Privett, Crystal Boland, Bertha Martin, Penny Ware and Janice Space; grandson, Chris Tasier; seven great-granddaughters and five great-grandsons; brother, Ed Space, Nowata; and sister, Faye Newsom, Edmond.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Primrose Chapel in Norman with the Rev. Bill Howse III officiating. Burial will be at Hayward Cemetery in Garvin County, under the direction of Primrose Funeral Service, Norman.

Mildred Thill

Choctaw resident Mildred Thill died Thursday. She was 78.

She was born Jan. 27, 1922, in Detroit, Mich., to William Stahnke and Mabel (Krieg) Stahnke Brumm.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra Kolander, Janice and Wally Betton, Dianna and George Peyvocek, JoAnn and Bill Wimmer, Diane and Alan Carrier; 13 grandchildren, Robert, Richard, Ronald, Ryan, Aaron, Tory, Lisa, Mark, Renee, Brian, Cindy, Wendy and Alan; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Ray Porter; and many other family members and friends.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Asa Smith Funeral Chapel in Harrah. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Choctaw.

Lee Hulin

Lee Hulin of Tecumseh died Tuesday in Tecumseh. She was 93.

She was born Jan. 15, 1907, west of Tecumseh, to W.T. and Sarah (McMahan) Branson.

She married "Pete" Hulin in 1941 in Tecumseh. He preceded her in death March 27, 1981.

Mrs. Hulin was a lifelong resident of Tecumseh and attended New Hope Schools. She was a homemaker and secretary of the OK Full Gospel Church for many years. She was a member of the OK Full Gospel Church.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Vance and Nancy Hulin, Moore, and Bill and Wanda Brown, Tecumseh; sister, Nora Earls, Tecumseh; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Wesley Andrew Brown.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Chapeln with the Rev. Max McKee and the Rev. Robert Rider officiating. Burial will be at Brown Cemetery.

Joseph Woodrow Hughes

Shawnee resident Joseph Woodrow Hughes died Sunday at his home. He was 82.

Hughes was born April 24, 1917, in Sparks to Leo and Callie Hughes. He married Betty Jane Stewart in 1941.

A Shawnee High School graduate, Hughes graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and received a master of aeronautical engineering degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

He retired in 1960 after 20 years in the U.S. Navy. He retired from Lockeed in 1980.

Hughes moved back to Shawnee in 1996. He was on the C.A.R.E. board and was in the Department of Human Services mentor program. He was also a member of the Pottawatomie County Advisory Board.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jane; daughter and son-in-law, Cody and Dick Deem, Shawnee; daughter, Sally Stewart, Maine; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Baptist Church with Jeff Moore officiating.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Shawnee or Immanuel Baptist Church building fund.

Charles Henry Witt Sr.

Retired First Sgt. Charles Henry "Chuck" Witt Sr. died Wednesday at Beaufort Memorial Hospital, Beaufort, S.C. He was 64.

He was born Dec. 13, 1935, in Greenville, S.C., the son of the late Lorn Henry Witt and Gladys Duvall Witt.

He was a member of the Port Royal, S.C., Masonic Lodge No. 242; Omar Shrine Temple, Charleston, S.C.; VFW Post No. 8760, Beaufort, S.C.; AMVETS Post No. 70, Port Royal, S.C.; and the American Legion Post No. 0379, Bedford, Texas. He retired from the U.S. Marine Corps as a first sergeant Sept. 30, 1974.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Evelyn Adams Witt, Port Royal, S.C.; son, Charles Henry Witt Jr., Grays Hill, S.C.; daughter, Lynne Witt Drawdy, Tecumseh; sister, Gladys Bernice Ayers, Gainesville, Ga., and Oma Mae Evans, Forest Park, Ga.; grandchildren, Michelle Lauren Witt and Tiffany Brooke Witt, both of Grays Hill, S.C.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. today in the U.S. National Cemetery, Beaufort, S.C., with military honors and Masonic rites under the direction of Anderson Funeral Home, Beaufort, S.C.

Florence Miles Welch

Shawnee resident Florence Miles Welch died Wednesday at a local hospital. She was 86.

Mrs. Welch was born Nov. 28, 1913, in Dennison, Texas, to Joseph Edward and Zella (Bayless) Miles.

She had lived in Shawnee since 1923 and attended Shawnee Schools and was a homemaker. She married Leonard F. Welch on July 1, 1930, in Oklahoma City.

She was a member of the Shawnee Round-Up Club and a former member of the Draper Street Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Bud Cranford, Shawnee; daughter, Dolores Whitecotton, Shawnee; four grandchildren and their spouses, Bill and Kathy Whitecotton, Joe and Shelly Whitecotton, Bob and Sharon Cranford and Sherrie and Larry McDaniels; eight great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard F. Welch on July 4, 1988; two sisters, Claudia Moody and Ailene Miles; brother, Joe Miles; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. today at Fairview Chapel under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Mickey Keith officiating.

Clara H. Knight

Clara H. Knight died Wednesday in Shawnee. She was 94.

Mrs. Knight was born Feb. 22, 1906, in Atoka to Missouri L. and Maude (Baxter) Hall. She married Hollis William Knight on June 1, 1926, in Atoka.

She had lived in the Meeker area and taught school in the Meeker Public School system.

She was a member of the Aydelotte Baptist Church, Shawnee, and the Oklahoma Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include her son, Bill Sam Knight, Meeker; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband in May of 1979, and her parents.

Viewing will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel, Meeker. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Meeker with the Rev. Ken May and the Rev. Jeff Moore officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Memorial Park Cemetery, Oklahoma City, under the direction of the Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Chandler.

Sarah Lillian Clower

Tecumseh resident Sarah Lillian Clower died Wednesday in Shawnee. She was 86.

Mrs. Clower was born June 23, 1913, in Maud to Walter Carlton and Dora Ella (Springer) Tiffin. She was raised in the Maud area and had lived in Tecumseh for more than 25 years.

On Oct. 6, 1934, she married Rufus Clower in Maud. She was a homemaker and seamstress. She was a lifelong member of the First Church of God, Tecumseh, where she was active in the CGWm serving as past president and treasurer.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Gearldene and W.M. Neighbors, Tecumseh; Linda and Lonnie Hurst, Tecumseh; five grandchildren, Bill Neighbors, Orlando, Fla.; Lisa Jones and Misty Rogers, both of Tecumseh; Angie Phillips, Shawnee; and Tyler Hurst, Fort Worth, Texas; two brothers, the Rev. Sid Tiffin, Tecumseh; and Gene Tiffin, Norman; two sisters, Cleo McMurray, Tecumseh; and Virginia Walker, Austin, Texas; four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, on Jan. 2, 1995; brothers, Houston, Orville and Clovie Dale Tiffin; and sisters, Wilma Birdsell and Delana Reed.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Church of God, Tecumseh, with the Rev. Todd Tiffin officiating. Burial will be in Cummings Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.

Ira Montgomery

Ira "Peck" Montgomery died Wednesday at Creek Nation Hospital. He was 77.

Montgomery was born April 27, 1922, at Paden to Alonzo Jackson and Ora Belle Morgan Montgomery. On Nov. 4, 1944, he married Ruth Hatty Davenport.

He sold cars in Okemah for many years, including 20 years at Standley Ford. He then worked for the state at the Boley facility from 1965 until he retired in 1984.

He was a member of the Midway Church of Christ in Paden and had lived in Okfuskee County most of his life.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Montgomery, of the home; two sisters, Viola Callison, Okemah; and Irene and her husband Gene Bond, Tulsa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel, Okemah, with Bobby Massey and Ronald Massey officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Cleveland T. Marshall

Former Shawnee resident Cleveland T. Marshall, Maud, died Wednesday in a Maud nursing home. He was 81.

Marshall was born June 30, 1918, in Holdenville, the son of Waite and Minnie Marshall.

He served with the U.S. Army. Following his service, he worked at Tinker Air Force Base until his retirement.

He was a member of First Indian Baptist Church, the Green Thumb Project at Shawnee Housing Authority, and the Masonic Lodge.

Marshall grew up in the Shawnee area. He also lived in Lawton for several years and worked at the U.S. Army hospital.

He was preceded in death by his former wife, Edna Burgess Marshall; and his parents, Waite and Minnie Marshall.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Regina and Fred Combs, Seminole; son, Chris T. Marshall, Tulsa; six grandchildren; and former wife, Isabell Gyongyossy.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, at First Indian Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gary Hawkins officiating.

Burial will be in Johnson Cemetery, under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Levada L. Smith

Tecumseh resident Levada L. Smith died Tuesday in Tecumseh. She was 84.

Mrs. Smith was born Jan. 12, 1915, in Tecumseh to William Newton and Mollie Jane (Roberts) Wisdom. She married Otis T. Smith on Dec. 22, 1935, in Shawnee.

She graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1933 and was a homemaker. She also sold Tupperware for 17 years and was a member of the Broadway United Methodist Church, Tecumseh.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Cookie Smith, Wills Point, Texas; John and Sandy Smith, Shawnee; mother, Mollie Wisdom, Tecumseh; grandchildren and spouses, Sherri and Bobby Best, Wills Point, Texas; Cindy and Britt Waltman, Maud; Janet and Bruce Miller, Chandler; Myra Smith, Dallas, Texas; Brian and Wendy Smith, Shawnee; Emily and Marty Williams, Shawnee; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father; son, Billie Frank Smith, in 1939; and brother, Andrew Wisdom.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Will Bentley officiating.
