James P. Alexander

James P. Alexander of Shawnee died Friday. He was 75.

He was born April 2, 1924, in Tecumseh to James Paul "Jim" Alexander Sr. and Helen White Alexander.

He attended Tecumseh Public Schools and schools in Texas; Riverside Community College in California; Cal State University, Fullerton, and Cal State University, Long Beach, Calif. He married Donelda M. Tucker in December 1943.

He was reared in the Tecumseh/Macomb area. In 1940, he joined the Civil Conservation Corps and was stationed in Colorado.

In 1941, he joined the United States Navy, serving on several ships as radio man and petty officer 1st class. He served on the aircraft carrier Phletus Bay and the USS Platte, which was in several battles in the South Pacific. He served in the Navy for eight years. In 1960, he moved to California, where he was employed by Hughes Aircraft Ground Systems at Fullerton.

He attended Arlington Church of God and was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Sherman W. Alexander; and a sister, Mary Corena Alexander.

Surviving are his wife, Donelda Alexander of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Glen Barnett of Shawnee; two sons and daughters-in-law, James Paul III and Jan Alexander of Riverside, Calif., and Gary and Diana Alexander of Corona, Calif.; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, George Alexander of Westville, Okla., Jack and Maxine Alexander of San Antonio and Benton and Donna Alexander of Torrance, Calif; five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Pauline and Vernon Childers, Alice and John Ellenberger and Myrna Beene, all of Shawnee; Virginia Brewer of Tecumseh and Marilyn and James Boland of Meeker; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Alexander Family Cemetery with the Rev. Dan Reihing of the First Christina Church of Shawnee officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Chapel.

Floyde Hinds

Lifelong Stroud resident Floyde Hinds died Saturday in Stroud. He was 89.

Hinds was born Sept. 3, 1909, in Stroud to Edward S. and Bessie L. (Monday) Hinds.

He worked as a typesetter and printer for the Stroud American and Tulsa World newspapers. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Stroud.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church in Stroud with Rev. Larry Bishop officiating.

Burial will be in Stroud Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Stroud.

Pleas John Whitlow

Maud resident Pleas John Whitlow died Saturday in Norman. He was 88.

Whitlow was born March 6, 1911, in Winston-Salem, N.C., to Joseph Whitlow and Elizabeth (Frasier) Whitlow. He married Charlotte Turner on Oct. 24, 1936, in Vallejo, Calif.

He served as chief machinist mate in the U.S. Navy and retired in 1948. He moved to Maud 23 years ago from Arkansas.

He was a member of Church of Christ of Maud.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Marie Turner, of the home; sons, Joel Whitlow, Maud, and John Whitlow; daughter, Marie Burkhart, Mountainburg, Ark.; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Cummings Cemetery in Maud under the direction of Knight Funeral Home.

Melford C. Scott

Tecumseh resident Melford C. "Mel" Scott died Saturday in Tecumseh. He was 92.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Glen Peck officiating.

Violet Lucille Hale

Violet Lucille Hale, 63, Shawnee, died Tuesday in Athens, Texas.

She was born Dec. 8, 1936, in Kalamazoo, Mich. She was the daughter of Oscar Thompson and Donna (Armstrong) Thompson.

She attended public schools in Michigan and graduated from high school there. Mrs. Hale was a homemaker.

She was also a nurse's aid with Independence Manor Nursing Home of Shawnee for 28 years, retiring in 1980. She was married to John D. Hale on Dec. 30, 1980, in Texas.

Mrs. Hale had lived in Shawnee since 1969 except for the past year, which she lived in Texas.

She was preceded in death by both parents; her husband; one son, Bruce Thompson and a brother.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Mike Fruit, Shawnee; Karen and Alan Garoutte, Tool, Texas; a son and daughter-in-law, Bart and Nicki Thompson, Moulton, Ala.; 12 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; three sisters, Virginia Lindsey; Marlene Craven; Mary Lou Trimm; two brothers, Lloyd Thompson; George Thompson.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Resthaven Funeral Home with the Rev. Travis Hurst officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Delbert Wiebusch

Harrah resident Delbert Wiebusch died Tuesday. He was 79.

Wiebusch was born Oct. 6, 1920, in Mount Vernon, Ill., to George and Zada (Hudgins) Wiebusch.

He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II as a master technical sergeant.

He was a Mason, Shriner, Elk and senior citizen volunteer.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia; two daughters and a son-in-law, Mary Ann and Mutsuo Yoshisato, Carson City, Nev.; Deborah Voelker, Goodyear, Ariz.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Noble and Diane Wiebusch, Yukon; Steve and Mary Wiebusch, Moore; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Marguerite Wiebusch, Burlington, Ind.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice of Oklahoma City.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Asa Smith Funeral Chapel in Harrah.

Burial will be in Memory Lane Cemetery, Harrah.

John Spain

Okemah resident John Spain died Tuesday in a Seminole hospital. He was 79.

Spain was born April 27, 1921, in Logan County, Ark., the son of Benjamin and Lucy Qualls Spain.

He was a retired farmer, and had lived in Okemah since November of 1941.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Spain is survived by five brothers, Jim, Chester, Buford, Luther and Kenneth Spain, all of Okemah; and four sisters, Clara Jones, Clora Fisher, Lora Fisher and Bernice Lanier, all of Okemah.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. today at Highland Cemetery Gazebo, with the Rev. Carl Clay officiating.

Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah.

Mary E. Parker

Mary E. Parker died Tuesday at Tulsa Regional Hospital. She was 83.

Mrs. Parker was born Oct. 17, 1916, in Micawber to James Andrew Nolan and Mauld Alma White Nolan. She married Bret Parker on April 4, 1936.

She was a homemaker and member of the Church of Christ. She had been a lifelong resident of Okfuskee County.

Survivors include her son, Joe B. Parker, Augusta, Kan.; daughter, Cookie Summers, Okemah; sister, Janice Hopkins, McAlester; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Feb. 28, 1968; three brothers and three sisters.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Church of Christ with Billy Green officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemtery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah.

John Mayes

John Mayes, Shawnee, died Tuesday in Shawnee. He was 72.

Mayes was born Aug. 12, 1927, in Stratford, the son of W.F. and Rillie (Cook) Mayes.

He worked as a brick mason and farmer.

He had lived in Shawnee for the past four years, and previously lived in Stratford.

Mayes was a member of First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, W.F. and Rillie Mayes; two sisters, Jewell Mayes and Opal Rycroft; and a brother, Lester Mayes.

Survivors include his three sisters and a brother-in-law, Virginia Gibson, Shawnee; Elizabeth Shorter, Shawnee; Frances and Andy Brown, Shawnee; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Pickard Funeral Home Chapel in Stratford. Burial will be in McGee Cemetery, Stratford.

Gary Wayne Gee

Gary Wayne Gee, 49, Shawnee, died Tuesday at a local hospital.

He was born Aug. 23, 1950, in Oklahoma City. He was the son of Darwin Gee and Margaret McLain Gee.

He had worked at Pratts Warehouse for 12 years. He married Ginger Gail (Griffin) Lindsey on Jan. 21, 1979, in Meeker.

Gee was a member of the First Baptist Church in Meeker. He had lived in Meeker and Oklahoma City before moving to Shawnee in 1988.

Services will be 3 p.m. Friday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jo Sinko officiating. Burial will be at New Hope Cemetery, Meeker.

Sandra Knight Hathaway

Former Shawnee resident Sandra Knight Hathaway of Glendale, Ariz., died April 21 at a Phoenix hospital. She was 60.

She was born Oct. 31, 1938, in Madera, Calif.

Surviving are her daughters, Terri Deac and husband Mike of Phoenix, Ariz.; Debbie White and husband Robert of Sherman, Texas; a son, Larry Knight of Sherman, Texas; grandchildren, Elizabeth Deac, Derek Deac, Michele White, Kathy Durham, Chris White, Andrew White, Leslie Knight, Buffy Knight, Christina Knight and Larry Knight; and six great-grandchildren.

Family services in the Shawnee area are planned for June.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to any agency caring for neglected animals.
