Dale E. Jones

Dale E. Jones of Thomas died Saturday at a Weatherford hospital. He was 75.

He was born July 20, 1923, in Hydro to Lewis M. and Anna Mae (Carter) Jones. He was raised in the Hydro and Thomas area and attended school in the Cedar District No. 65. He was in the U.S. Army Air Corps and in the European and Pacific Theatres.

He later returned to Thomas, where he farmed and ran a bulldozer and did dirt work. He also worked in maintenance at Southwestern Oklahoma State University for 15 years. He later worked for Thomas Schools and retired in 1985.

He is survived by two brothers, Lewis Carl Jones of Del City, and Robert Glen and wife Freida Jones of Norman; two sisters, Myrtle Faye and husband George Crow of Shawnee, and Nellie Joe and husband Richard Taylor of Grand Prairie, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, Earl, Fred and Roy; and one sister, Thelma Mae.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. today at the Mound Valley Cemetery in Thomas with the Rev. Alan Gharet officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home of Weatherford.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

La Dawn Webb

Shawnee native La Dawn Webb died Sunday at an Oklahoma City hospital. She was 42.

She was born to Glenn Webb and Retha (Kiker) Webb March 25, 1957, in Shawnee. She was reared in Shawnee and attended Shawnee schools, graduating in 1975. She attended Southern Nazarene University in Bethany for four years. She worked for Central Plastics for 17 years and was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Shawnee. She played on a national championship fast-pitch softball team.

Surviving are her parents, Glenn and Retha Webb of Shawnee; one sister, Cheryl Shults and husband Gary of Kingfisher; one brother, Stephen D. Webb of Edmond; three nieces, Jill Shults, Kimberly Shults and Emily Shults; and two nephews, Zachary Webb and Bryson Webb.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at the First Church of the Nazarene in Shawnee with pastor Richard Dickinson officiating. Burial will be at the Atwood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home in Holdenville.

Gail A. (Preston) Dunavan Stuard

Former Shawnee resident Gail A. (Preston) Dunavan Stuard of Las Vegas, Nev., died April 29. She was 47.

She was born July 10, 1951, to Eugene and Margaret Preston and lived most of her life in Shawnee. She married Jerry Stuard and they lived in Las Vegas for two years.

Surviving are her husband, Jerry Stuard of Las Vegas; her mother, Margaret Preston of Shawnee; one son and daughter-in-law, Clint and Carmen Dunavan of Dallas, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Crystal and Darryll Dothard of Los Angeles, Calif.; one brother, Don Preston of Tuttle; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Linda Preston of Choctaw, and Phyllis and Mike Ellis of Tecumseh; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Preceding her in death were her father, Eugene Preston, in 1985; and her grandparents, Dudley and Ollie Scroggins and Lee and Jackie Preston.

Memorial services were held Monday in Las Vegas.

Melford C. 'Mel' Scott

Melford C. "Mel" Scott of Tecumseh died Saturday. He was 92.

He was born Nov. 12, 1906, in Hardin County, Tenn., to Edgar C. and Mary Francis (Martin) Scott. He attended elementary school in McIntosh County. On Feb. 9, 1931, he married Arie E. Clement in Pottawatomie County. They were married for 57 years before she died April 3, 1988.

Scott was reared in McIntosh County, and he left school to herd cattle. In 1926, he went to work in the oil fields in Seminole and Pottawatomie Counties until 1933. He farmed and ranched in McIntosh County and also lived in Checotah and Eufaula. In 1964 he moved to Grady County, living in Cement and Bradley, and in 1989 he moved to Tecumseh.

During the 1993-94 school years, he was recognized as the Tecumseh Savage No. 1 Fan.

Preceding him in death were his wife, his parents, a daughter, Betty Lou (Scott) Langham; four sisters and two brothers.

Surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Melford L. and Margaret Scott of Chickasha; Cherry M. and Janetta Scott of Oklahoma City; Roy L. Scott of Oklahoma City; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Orval Washburn of Tecumseh; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services are 2 p.m. today at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Glenn Peck officiating. Burial is at Prairie View Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Chapel.

Carl James Vandever

Carl James Vandever of Shawnee died Sunday at a Midwest City hospital. He was 60.

He was born April 22, 1939, west of Tecumseh to Orval James and Mary Evelyn (Shelton) Vandever. He attended Shawnee Schools and was a professor for 20 years at Edmond College.

Surviving are his father, Orval Vandever of the home; uncles, Bill Vandever of Chickasha; Raymond Vandever of Seminole; Leon and Ruby Vandever of Shawnee; aunts, Leta Brock of Tecumseh; Marie and Ralph Alexander of McLoud; Wanda Duggan of Shawnee; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his mother and grandparents.

Graveside services are 10 a.m. today at Tecumseh Cemetery with Bill Matthews officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Marnie Anita Boyce and Emily Boyce

Marnie Anita Boyce, 28, and Emily Boyce, 3, of Meeker died Saturday north of Shawnee.

Marnie Boyce was born May 5, 1970, in Springfield, Ore., to Dennis Watts and Linda Worley. She attended Crutcho Schools and graduated from Meeker High School.

Emily was born Feb. 9. 1996, in Oklahoma City. She attended the Apple a Day Care Center.

Marnie was a Pizza Hut assistant manager. They both attended the Horton Chapel of the Nazarene in Meeker. Marnie had lived in Meeker since 1984.

They were preceded in death by their grandfather and great-grandfather, Edgar Worley.

Surviving are Marnie's children, daughter Bailee Boyce of Meeker; son, Andre Scott Watts of Meeker; Marnie's mother and Emily's grandmother, Linda Worley of Longview, Texas; father and Emily's grandfather, Dennis Watts of Hawaii; brother and uncle, Chris Watts of Dallas, Texas; grandmother and great-grandmother, Mary Worley of Meeker; grandmotherand great-grandmother, Dorothy Watts of Eugene, Ore.; and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services were 2 p.m. Monday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dwain Young officiating. Burial was in Jamison Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Roy Edward McGaunn Jr.

Roy Edward McGaunn Jr. of Harrah died Sunday at his home. He was 39.

He was born May 21, 1959, in Phoenix, Ariz., to Roy Edward McGaunn Sr. and Ellen Marie Edwards. He was a mechanic.

He married Lisa on Feb. 29, 1988, in Shawnee.

Surviving are his wife, Lisa; his mother, Ellen Bebout of Choctaw; his father, Roy McGaunn Sr. of Massachusetts; five sisters, Evelyn Davis of Jones; Michelle Perkins of Newalla; Sheila Lungsford and Kelly Tipton of Midwest City; Sheryl McGaunn of New Hampshire; six brothers, Thomas Bratcher of Choctaw; Kevin, Paul and David McGaunn, all of New Hampshire; Jerry and Brian McGaunn, both of Massachusetts; three daughters, Kandi McGaunn of the home; Kari Gilbert of Oklahoma City; Kari McGaunn of Oklahoma City; and his aunt and uncle, Allan and Martha McMahon of Choctaw.

Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Assembly Church in Choctaw with Al Boykin and Delbert Reed officiating. Burial is at Ferrell Cemetery, northeast of Harrah.

Arrangements are under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service.

Kassidy Evaine Wilkins

Kassidy Evaine Wilkins of Tecumseh died Monday. She was 1 year old.

She was born April 3, 1998, in Oklahoma City to Jerry Harris and Kim Wilkins.

Surviving are her mother, Kim Wilkins of Tecumseh; her father, Jerry Harris of Tecumseh; three brothers, Christopher Tucker of Tecumseh; Jerry Harris Jr. and Jacob Harris, both of Ada; grandparents Jack and Carolyn Phillips of Shawnee; Larry and Beverly Wilkins of Shawnee; John and Rita Harris of Tecumseh; great-grandparents, Vonnie Freeman of Tecumseh; Nita Boland of Meeker; Louise Wilkins of Shawnee; Tommy Wilkins of McLoud; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Preceding her in death were her great-grandparents, Louis Freeman and Ben and Aline Davis; and Tom P. and Lydia D. Harris.

Graveside services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Highland Cemetery with the Revs. Bill Matthews and Phil Thompson officiating.

Madge Dockrey

Shawnee resident Madge Dockrey died Thursday at a local hospital. She was 91.

Dockrey was born March 4, 1908, in Farris, Okla., to Thomas Henry and Mary Bell (Dickerson) Edwards.

She married Pascal George "Dute" Dockrey in Shawnee in 1926. They farmed together north of Shawnee.

Dockrey moved to Shawnee with her family in 1915. She was a homemaker and the eighth of 11 children.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Grant and Letha Jo Dockrey and Larry and Glenda Ruth Dockrey; grandchildren and spouses, Dace and Sharon Dockrey, Jack and Connie Dockrey, Scott Dockrey, Luke and Angela Dockrey, Sherry and Tim Haslam, Cindy King, Garry and Kellie Dockrey and Matt Short; her sister, Ann Bayliss; sister-in-law, Dovie Edwards; brother-in-law, Lynn Laster; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1982; her son, Garry Bruce Dockrey in 1964; and nine brothers and sisters.

Services will be 2 p.m. today with the Rev. Reed Lynn officiating. Burial will be at Centerville Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Rinda (Duck) Myers

Sulphur resident Rinda (Duck) Myers died Thursday at her home. She was 67.

Myers was born March 29, 1932, in St. Louis, Okla., to James R. and Ruby (Taylor) Duck.

She married Richard E. "Gene" Myers on June 9, 1951, in Ada.

She graduated from Maud High School in Maud and worked for Halliburton Co. in Duncan. She retired in 1989 after working there 31 years.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Sulphur.

Survivors include her husband, Richard E. "Gene" Myers of the home; daughter, Kristi Ann Wells, Pensacola, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law, Richard K. and Teresa Myers, Henryetta; sister Sally Bridwell, Worland, Wyo.; and grandchildren, Jace D. Payne, Pensacola, Fla., Ryan and Taylor Myers, both of Henryetta, and Devon Ann Payne of the home.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Konawa Cemetery in Konawa with the Rev. Mike Taylor officiating under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Beverly N. Sowder

Winfield, Kan., resident Beverly N. Sowder died Thursday at her home. She was 70.

Sowder was born Sept. 8, 1928, in Plainville, Kan., to Wilbur and Edna Jones Bright.

She married Jack L. Sowder on Feb. 25, 1946, and they moved to Winfield, Kan., in 1950.

A health care professional, Sowder began her career at St. Mary's Hospital and later worked at William Newton Memorial Hospital for many years. She worked at Winfield Medical Arts in Winfield, Kan., for 10 years and retired in 1994.

She was a longtime member and deaconess of the First Christian Church in Winfield, Kan., and was affiliated with Business and Professional Women in Winfield, Kan.

Survivors include her husband, Jack Sowder of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, David Sowder, Sarasota, Fla., Tom Sowder, Shawnee, Jon and Jan Sowder, Jeffersonville, Ind., and Monty and Tonja Sowder of Wichita, Kan.; sisters, Wilburma Stults, Gravendell, the Netherlands, and Barbara Hamilton, Corsicana, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and many relatives and friends.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Christian Church in Winfield, Kan. Visitation will be at Miles Funeral Service of Winfield, Kan., Sunday noon until 9 p.m.

Memorials have been established for First Christian Church in Winfield, Kan., Hospice, Inc. and the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made at the church or funeral home.

Anna J. Scheidt

Shawnee resident Anna J. Scheidt died Friday at her home. She was 108.

Scheidt was born Jan. 24, 1891, in St. Clement, Mo., to Fred and Rosie (Lomsky) Ebers.

She married John Scheidt on Nov. 22, 1910, at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Shawnee. He preceded her in death.

She moved to Oklahoma when she was 10 years old and lived in the Shawnee area most of her life. She was a homemaker as well as a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and St. Benedict Altar Society.

Survivors include her daughter, Rosalie Dickinson, Shawnee; grandchildren and spouses, Michael Dickinson, Shawnee, Timmy and Joann Dickinson, Shawnee, Ann Dickinson and son Andrew, Shawnee, Carl and Andrea Dickinson, Baltimore, Md., and Mark and Rhonda Dickinson, Shawnee; 12 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, George Scheidt; grandson, John Dickinson; and great-grandsons, Danny Dickinson and John Dickinson Jr.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Benedict Catholic Church, with the Father Charles Massoth officiating. The wake and rosary will be 7 p.m. Sunday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.
