Carmen Kieffer

Carmen "Kate" Kieffer of Tecumseh died Tuesday. She was 88.

She was born Jan. 1, 1912, in Noble to Joe and Martha Ann (Davis) Brightwell. On Dec. 3, 1934, she married Clarence Kieffer in Tecumseh. He preceded her in death on May 27, 1985.

She was reared in the Forest View Community. She and her husband lived in Macomb and Wanette, where they farmed until moving to Tecumseh in 1975.

She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; four brothers, Lonnie, Harse, Otis and Bruce Brightwell; and one sister, Una Jones.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Billie Jean and Gilbert Limke of Sulphur; son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Elaine Kieffer of Wanette; five grandchildren and spouses,. Keith and Karen Limke; Kirk and Laurie Limke; Kathy and Buck LeGrande; David and Rhonda Keiffer and Daniel and Tesia Kieffer; nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Eddie Malphrus, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Sulphur and the Rev. W.F. Crow officiating. Burial will follow in Tecumseh Cemetery.

Ruby J. Pierce

Ruby J. Pierce of Shawnee died Tuesday at a local hospital. She was 67.

She was born April 9, 1933, in Calico Rock, Ark., to Joe and Dona Harber. She attended St. Joseph School in Oklahoma City and worked at Tinker Air Force Base. She was real estate broker and homemaker and also worked at Sears.

She married Leslie Pierce March 16, 1979. She was a member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church and had lived in Shawnee for the past 40 years.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband on March 21, 1998, and two brothers.

Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel L. Crook of Shawnee; Michael Dean and Shelly Crook, of Shawnee; Gilbert Mark and Katherine Crook of Shawnee; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; five brothers, Tommy Harber, Bill Harber, Dale Harber, Dean Everett and Tommy Morgan; several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Benedict's Catholic Church with Celibrant Maurus Jaeb, O.S.B. officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park with Bill Matthews and Phil Thompson assisting at graveside.

Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Elden Orrin Henderson Jr.

Elden Orrin Henderson Jr. of Talihina died Sunday. He was 84.

He was born Jan. 9, 1916, in Adams, N.D. to Elden and Alma Henderson.

He operated the Grab A Snack Drive-In on North Harrison in the 1950s. He owned and operated the AAA Heating and Air Conditioning Co. in Midwest CIty and worked as a heat and air specialist for more than 40 years.

He married Helen Louise Nelson and was a Disabled American Veteran of the U.S. Navy and returned to Oklahoma upon discharge.

Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Helen Nelson Henderson; three brothers-in-law, Tommy Nelson, A.B. Nelson Jr., and William J. Wachs; two sisters-in-law, Betty Horback and Dorothy Logsdon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Fairview Cemetery with Kevin Roland officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Ida Lee Whitten

Ida Lee Whitten of Tecumseh died Wednesday. She was 80.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Tecumseh Cemetery. Other information is pending.

Raymond Eldon Overton

Former Shawnee Police Chief Raymond Eldon Overton of Midwest City died Wednesday. He was 61.

Overton was a graduate of Southeast High School and Rose State College.

He retired from law enforcement from the Shawnee Police Department after three years as chief and the Del City Police Department, where he served 18 years to earn the rank of deputy chief.

He also retired from the Oklahoma National Guard as a chief master sergeant after a 38-year career.

Preceding him in death were parents, Mary and Raymond Overton, and one brother, Donnie.

Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Kay; two sons, Donnie and Ronnie; four grandchildren, one sister, Joan Langford, two aunts and many nieces and nephews.

Donations can be made in memory of Raymond Overton to the American Cancer Society, 4323 N.W. 63, Oklahoma City, Okla., 73116.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Barnes and Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Midwest City. Burial will follow in Resthaven Oklahoma City Cemetery.

Ethel Driskill

Ethel Driskill of Norman died Wednesday at a Norman nursing home. She was 90.

She was born April 25, 1910, in Coalgate. She married Cecil Driskill and was a homemaker.

She was a member of the First Missionary Church in Seminole.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband on Aug. 22, 1976.

Surviving are her son, C. James Driskill of Tecumseh; seven daughters, Clemmie Sorge of Midland, Texas; Mary Williams of Austin, Texas; Virgie Ball of Newcastle,; Juanita Webb of Shreveport, La.; Velma McKinney of Yukon; Joyce Kean of Seminole and Edna Parks of Seminole; two brothers and three sisters, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Little Cemetery with the Rev. Mack H. Peercy officiating. Burial is under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Marion L. Richardson

Shawnee resident Marion L. Richardson died Thursday at a local hospital. He was 64.

Richardson was born Dec. 21, 1934, in Tecumseh to Lawrence McClure Richardson and Anna Myrtle (Flowers) Richardson. He married Minnie Lois Carsten on Nov. 1, 1952, in Meeker.

He graduated from Oklahoma State University with a bachelor's degree in law enforcement. He had lived in Shawnee for 36 years and was a retired police office with the Shawnee Police Department. He was self-employed in the lawn care business for seven years.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Richardson, Shawnee; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Cheryl Richardson, Tecumseh; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Larry Courtney, Shawnee; five grandchildren, Heather Courtney, Valen Richardson, Cort Richardson, Taci Richardson and Kaylen Richardson; brother, Ronnie Richardson, Shawnee; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene and Hazel Richardson and Eddie and Paula Milligan, all of Shawnee; sister, Sue Rooks, Shawnee; sisters and brothers-in-law, Juanita and Harold Ailey and Hazel and Jim Shockley, all of Shawnee; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Anna Sue Milligan.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Northridge Church of Christ with Bob Anderson and Cliff Craig officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Gerald Dewayne Mullen

Lifelong Seminole resident Gerald Dewayne Mullen died Friday at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was 35.

Mullen was born Aug. 12, 1963, in Seminole to Gerald Eugene Mullen and Gladys (Richards) Mullen.

Survivors include his mother, Gladys Mullen, Wolf; two sisters, Teresa Anson and Melissa Marquis, both of Wolf.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Mullen, in 1985.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Wolf Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. The Rev. Carl Whitfield will officiate.

Marie Hughes

Marie Hughes of Texas City, Texas. died Friday in Texas City. She was 64.

Mrs. Hughes was born April 22, 1935, in Tecumseh. She married Joe P. Hughes on July 9, 1955, in Tecumseh.

She attended school in Tecumseh and was a homemaker. She moved with her husband to Pasadena, Texas, in 1968.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Leslie Davenport; son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Shirley Hughes; sons, Jerry Hughes and Phillip Floyd; grandchildren, Christopher, Wesley and Chad Hughes; Larry and JoAnn Denning; brothers and sisters-in-law, Harry and Joy Linduff; Don and Louise Linduff; and Troy and June Linduff; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband on July 15, 1986, and her parents.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery.

Delbert Eugene Goss

Former Shawnee resident Delbert "Del" Eugene Goss of Oklahoma City died Thursday in Oklahoma City. He was 57.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.

Nellie D. Kinnamon

Bristow resident Nellie D. Kinnamon died Monday at a Bristow nursing center. She was 85.

Mrs. Kinnamon was born July 20, 1913, in Pink to Frank and Mary Cathey. She married Tom H. Kinnamon on May 16, 1931, in Macomb.

She was an licensed practical nurse and worked as a private nurse. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. She lived in Shawnee from 1942 until 1993 when she moved to Bristow.

Survivors include two nieces, Geneva Drummond, Bristow, and Doris Manning, Shawnee; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in February 1993; her brother, F.M. Cathey; sister, Grace Sharffield; and a nephew.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Robert Rider officiating. The casket will not be opened at the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Benjamin W. Jones

Shawnee resident Benjamin W. Jones died Tuesday at a local hospital. He was 76.

Jones was born Dec. 24, 1922, in Park Hill, Okla., to Benjamin F. and Gulielma Jones. He married Minnie Mae Sixkiller on Dec. 24, 1946, in Columbus, Kan.

He was raised in Park Hill and Tahlequah and had lived in Shawnee since 1975. He served in World War II, Korea Conflict and Vietnam and retired as commander of the United States Navy on Jan. 1, 1974. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and Retired Officers Association.

Survivors include his wife, Minnie Jones, of the home; sisters, Jane M. Griffin, Tahlequah, and Helen A. Brandt, Austin, Texas; brothers-in-law, Bob Sixkiller, Siloam Springs, Ark., and J.L. Sixkiller, Tulsa; sister-in-law, Barbara Clark, Watts; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, John Robert Jones; and two sisters, Louise Stevenson Noss and Sarah Frances Abel.

Graveside services with military honors will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Victoria Jean Sweatt

Longtime Shawnee resident Victoria Jean Sweatt died Monday at her home as a result of Monday's tornado. She was 41.

Mrs. Sweatt was born Oct. 26, 1957, in Shawnee to Gene Terry and Nora Jean (Chandler) Nguyen. She married Greg Sweatt on April 7, 1995, in Shawnee.

She graduated from Shawnee High School and had worked for TDK for about 20 years.

Survivors include her husband, Greg Sweatt, Shawnee; twin daughters, Jessica and Jenny Permetter, Shawnee; parents, Gene and Joan Terry, Shawnee; mother, Nora Nguyen, Baton Rouge, La.; brother and sister-in-law, John and Sharon Terry, Shawnee; brother, Phil Chandler, Shawnee; brother and sister-in-law, William and Tina Chandler, Jacksonville, Fla.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Leslie and Hap Aziz, Orlando, Fla., and Kathy and James Reynolds, Shawnee; grandmother, Alice Bray, Shawnee; mother-in-law, Margaret Tucker, Shawnee; brother-in-law, Steve Sweatt, Shawnee; sister-in-law, Carla Sweatt, St. Louis, Mo.; and godparents, Bob and Shirley Hedge, Shawnee.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Anna Temple.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Wesley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clif Briscoe, the Rev. Robert Fowler and the Rev. Rusty Williams officiating. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.
