Anthony Peter Battaglia

Norman resident Anthony Peter Battaglia died Monday as a result of the tornado that hit southeast Oklahoma City. He was 37.

Battaglia was born Oct. 19, 1961, in San Francisco, Calif., to Lawrence and Rose Davi Battaglia. He married Melissa Marie Smith on July 13, 1991, at Lake Tahoe, Nev.

He attended high school in San Francisco and had worked for American Freight Ways in Oklahoma City for the past two years. He had lived in Norman since 1992 and was of the Catholic faith.

Survivors include his wife, Melissa Battaglia, of the home; son, Antonio Mac Battaglia of the home; two brothers, Larry Battaglia, Hayward, Calif., and Bobby Battaglia, San Francisco, Calif.; and one half-brother, Vincent Battaglia, Oregon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Rose Battaglia.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Okemah Church of Christ with Bro. Roger Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Okemah under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Okemah.

Dale R. Squier

McLoud resident Dale R. Squier died Tuesday at his home. He was 69.

Squier was born Dec. 3, 1929, in Orchard, Iowa, to Roy and Maud Squier. He was reared in Osage, Iowa, and moved to McLoud in 1970.

He was a truck driver for Transcon Truck Lines and retired in 1981.

Survivors include his daughter, Marsha Squier, Newalla; sons, Gordon Squier, Washington, Wayne Squier, Thorton, Iowa, and Allen Squier, Minnesota; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul Squier, Osage, Iowa, and Floyd Squier, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Oak Park Church of God under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Leroy Kerbo officiating.

Lavada Marie Stripling

Shawnee resident Lavada Marie (Rie) Stripling died Sunday in Oklahoma City. She was 45.

Mrs. Stripling was born Sept. 2, 1953, in Clearview, Okla., to Roy Ballard and Mary Ann Johnson Ballard. She married Jack Stripling in 1972.

She was raised in Clearview and graduated from Weleetka High School in 1971. She later attended Seminole Junior College, where she completed a program in business education.

She worked for several years for Blue Bell in Seminole and later for Neil Craig Insurance Agency. She was employed by Pleasant Grove Elementary School as a computer and library technician.

She was a member of National Education Association and the Oklahoma Education Association and was associated with the Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Jack of the home; four children, Trilbya, Renee', Delaney (Poodie) and Christopher (Bubba), all of the home; stepson, Brett, Newport News, Va.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Donnie Nero, Sapulpa, and Marilyn and Teddy Jackson, Morris; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son Eddie Roy.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Weleetka High School Auditorium with Milton Gleghorn officiating. Burial will be in North Fork Cemetery under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home of Weleetka.

Nellie D. Kinnamon

Bristow resident Nellie D. Kinnamon died Monday at a Bristow nursing center. She was 85.

Mrs. Kinnamon was born July 20, 1913, in Pink, Okla., to Frank and Mary Cathey. She married Tom H. Kinnamon on May 16, 1931, in Macomb.

She was a licensed practical nurse and worked as a private nurse and a member of Trinity Baptist Church. She lived in Shawnee from 1942 until 1993, when she moved to Bristow.

Survivors include two nieces, Geneva Drummond, Bristow, and Doris Manning, Shawnee; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in February 1993; her brother, F.M. Cathey; sister, Grace Sharffield; and a nephew.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Robert Rider officiating. The casket will not be opened at the service.

Daniel Washington Sr.

Shawnee resident Daniel Washington Sr. died Sunday at his home. He was 34.

Washington was born Sept. 5, 1964, in Pawnee to Curtis and Emma Washington.

He was a member of the Iowa Tribe and a member of the Pentecostal Lighthouse Church.

Survivors include his father, Curtis Washington Sr., Shawnee; son, Daniel Washington Jr., Shawnee; four brothers, Tim Wells and Curtis Washington Jr., both of Cushing, and Tom Tiger and Curtis Grant, both of Shawnee; three sisters, Karen Washington, Shawnee, Anita Washington, Oklahoma City; Deanna Washington, Wewoka; Luther Haymond, Shawnee, and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Emma Washington, and his daughter, Miranda Washington.

Services will be noon Thursday at White Cloud Iowa Tribal Complex. Burial will be in the Iowa Tribal Cemetery in Perkins under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Addie Irene Mears

Seminole resident Addie Irene (Barbour) Mears died Monday in Shawnee. She was 74.

Mrs. Mears was born Dec. 9, 1924, in Oil City, Okla., to J.O. Barbour and Addie Laura (Robison) Barbour. She married William Floyd "Curly" Mears Jr. on Nov. 1, 1941, in Ardmore.

She moved to Seminole in 1968 from Ardmore. She retired from Independent Tank Company in 1989 and was a longtime employee of the former Custom Size Inc. of Wewoka. She was of the Episcopal faith.

Survivors include her son, Jerry Mears, Loco, Okla.; daughters, Judy Glenn and Joy Henderson, both of Seminole; six grandchildren, Sam Glenn, Leah Mears Gordon, Jeria Mears, Bill Glenn, Laura Mears and Sara Henderson; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Strother Chapel with the Rev. Arthur Scrutchins officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Brittney Rachelle Miesner Zumwalt

Brittney Rachelle Miesner Zumwalt of Odessa, Texas died Monday at a Texas hospital. She was 8.

She was born May 3, 1991, in Monahans, Texas, and had lived in Odessa for five months. She was a Baptist.

Surviving are her parents, Danny and Tasha Zumwalt of Odessa, Texas; a brother, C.J. Zumwalt of Odessa, Texas; her maternal grandparents, Jack and Jane Carter of Ardmore; paternal grandparents, Red and Aline Hicks of Kermit, Texas; great-grandmother, Mildred Trammell of Kermit, Texas; great-grandparents, Jack and Viola Carter of Tecumseh; numerous nieces of nephews.

Graveside services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Kermit Cemetery with Russ Smith, Sr. officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Chapel in Kermit, Texas.

Glen Hiemer

Glen Hiemer died Tuesday in Prague. He was 86.

He was born Dec. 12, 1912, in Meeker. He was a lifelong resident of Lincoln County and was raised by his grandmother, Mrs. Mattie Hall. He was a retired farmer and carpenter. For a short time, he served in Prague as the city manager.

He married Clara Neighbors on Dec. 12, 1938, in Shawnee. He was of the Methodist faith.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two daughters, Rosalie Henderson and Marilyn Munson; two grandsons; and one great-grandson.

Surviving are his wife, Clara Hiemer of the home; one daughter and her husband, Carolyn and Keith Smith of Globe, Ariz.; two sons-in-law, Roy Munson of Stroud and Jimmie Henderson of Las Vegas, Nev.; two brothers, Bill Bays of Tulsa and Valmer Bays of Kansas City, Mo.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Kellerby Cemetery, north of Prague. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Prague.

Carl James Vandever

Carl James Vandever of Shawnee died Sunday at a Midwest City hospital. He was 60.

He was born April 22, 1939, west of Tecumseh to Orval James and Mary Evelyn (Shelton) Vandever. He attended Shawnee Schools and was a professor for 20 years at Edmond College.

Surviving are his father, Orval Vandever of the home; uncles and aunts, Bill Vandever of Chickasha, Raymond Vandever of Seminole, Leon and Ruby Vandever of Shawnee, Leta Brock of Tecumseh, Marie and Ralph Alexander of McLoud and Wanda Duggan of Shawnee; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his mother and grandparents.

Graveside services were 10 a.m. Tuesday at Tecumseh Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Matthews officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Gertrude Lilly Hensley

Gertrude Lilly Hensley of Seminole died Tuesday. She was 91.

She was born June 13, 1908, in Desdemonia, Texas, to George Richard Belyeu and Lilly D. (Vowell) Belyeu. She married Derris Hensley March 2, 1929, in Okemah and he preceded her in death Sept. 5, 1985.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ in Seminole.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, a twin sister and several half-brothers and sisters.

Surviving are two sons, Lynn Hensley of Oklahoma City and Gerald Don Hensley of Anaheim, Calif.; one daughter, Barbara Jean Pinnecker of Corona, Calif.; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Little Church of Christ with Rusty Dawson officiating. Burial will follow in Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Gary Wayne Gee

Shawnee resident Gary Wayne Gee died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was 49.

Gee was born Aug. 23, 1950, in Oklahoma City, the son of Darwin and Margaret McLain Gee.

He married Ginger Gail (Griffin) Lindsey on Jan. 21, 1979, in Meeker.

He worked at Pratt's warehouse for 12 years, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Meeker.

Gee previously lived in Meeker and Oklahoma City before moving to Shawnee in 1988.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his mother-in-law.

Survivors include his wife, Ginger Gee, Shawnee; three daughters and sons-in-law, Johnna and Marvin Lewis, Shawnee; Misty and David Bruce, Ada; Sarah and Justin Ware, Shawnee; a son, Joshua Gee, Shawnee; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Pat and Mike Ramsey, McLoud; Nancy and Doug Knight, Oklahoma City; five grandchildren, Johnathon and Kyla Lindsey and Kaylan Ware, all of Shawnee; Sammy Lindsey and Deondre Bruce, both of Ada; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 3 p.m. today, at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jo Sinko officiating.

Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery in Meeker.

Evelyn R. McKay

Moore resident Evelyn R. McKay died Tuesday at her home. She was 72.

Mrs. McKay was born June 12, 1927, in Elmore City to William Byron and Oleetha Howard Alexander.

She attended school at Elmore City. On Sept. 18, 1942, she married James McKay in Woodward.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Elmore City and attended the First Assembly of God Church, Moore.

Survivors include her husband, James McKay, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Barbara McKay, Wynnewood; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Larry Primrose, Norman; brother and sister-in-law, Alvin and Jackie Alexander, Oklahoma City; sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and Lawrence Hughes, Shawnee; four grandchildren, Chad McKay, Charlene McCoy, Trillene Baird and Trent Primrose.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Leycester Alexander.

Graveside services were Thursday at Elmore City Cemetery under the direction of Wooster Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Morgan officiating.
