Joanne Wise

Joanne Wise, 72, Oilton, Oklahoma died Thursday at the Yale Nursing Home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church, Oilton. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Oilton. Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, in handling arrangements.

Mrs. Wise was born Oct. 26, 1933 in Pawnee to John and Jewel (Smith) Denny. She grew up in Skeedy, near Pawnee, and attended school in Pawnee. She married Coy Wise on Oct. 24, 1950 in Drumright, and he died in 2004. She was a very hard working homemaker. She enjoyed home improvement.

Mrs. Wise was an elder in the Community of Christ, where she was a youth worker and pastor for several years in Oilton.

Survivors include two sons, Joseph Wise and wife Vicki of Broken Arrow, and Micah Wise of Oilton; a daughter, Esther Mill and husband Donald of Independence, Mo.; three brothers, Bill Denny and wife Maryann of Maramec, Edwin Denny and wife Billy Jo of Blackburn, and Eldon Denny of Glencoe; five sisters, Sylvia Kennedy of Oilton, Geneva Spencer of Glencoe, Cathy Mills and husband Orville of Jennings, Iva Jean Butler and husband Charles of Silver City, and Karen Marshal of Oilton; grandchildren Shauna Austin and husband Blair, LaDawn Wise, Kimberly White and husband Ronnie, Melissa Smith and husband Troy, Lisa Martin and husband Joshua, Ashlee Mills, Bethany Wise and Joseph Wise; and eight great-grandchildren.

Joanne Wise

Joanne Wise, 72, of Oilton died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006 at the Yale Nursing Home. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Monday at the First Baptist Church, Oilton. Interment followed at the Highland Cemetery, Oilton.

Arrangements were under the direction of Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing.

Joanne was born on Oct. 26, 1933 in Stillwater to John and Jewel (Smith) Denny. She grew in Skeedy, Okla., near Pawnee. Joanne attended school in Pawnee. She was one of nine children. Joanne married Coy Wise on Oct. 24, 1950 in Drumright.

She was a very hard working homemaker. She enjoyed home improvement. Joanne was an elder in the Community of Christ where she was a youth worker and pastor for several years in Oilton. She enjoyed visiting and counseling others. Joanne loved her family and grandchildren.

Joanne is survived by her sons: Joseph Wise and wife Vicki of Broken Arrow, Micah Wise of Oilton, daughter: Esther Mill and husband Donald of Independence, Mo., three brothers: Bill Denny and wife Maryann of Maramec, Edwin Denny and wife Billy Jo of Blackburn, Eldon Denny of Glencoe, five sisters Sylvia Kennedy of Oilton, Geneva Spencer of Glencoe, Cathy Mills and husband Orville of Jennings, Iva Jean Butler and husband Charles of Silver City, Karen Marshall of Oilton, grandchildren Shauna Austin and husband Blair, LaDawn Wise, Kimberly White and husband Ronnie, Melissa Smith and husband Troy, Lisa Martin and husband Joshua, Ashlee Mills, Bethany Wise and Joseph Wise, and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Coy Wise, in 2004.

Pamela Jean "P.J." Miles

Pamela Jean "P.J." Miles, 56 of Oilton, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2006 at the Drumright Hospital, Drumright, Okla. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006 at the Freewill Baptist Church, Oilton. Dr. Dan Parker will officiate.

Services have been entrusted to the Palmer and Marler Funeral Home of Oilton.

Pamela was born on July 7, 1949 in Jay, Okla. to Donald and Izetta (Strickler) Armstrong. She grew up and graduated from Jay High School.

Pamela married Sam Miles on December 19, 1981 in Pampa, Texas. They lived in Mississippi for 17 years, where she worked for Parchman Penitintuary as a security guard for a number of years. She moved back to Oilton in 2003. Pamela was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing on the computer and reading.

Pamela is survived by her husband Sam of the home; sons, Kevin Tate and wife Jacquelyn of Washington, and Billy Miles of Oilton; daughters, Linda Wesley and husband Tim of Oilton, Amy Belcher and husband John of Nebraska; brother, Donnie Armstrong and wife Vickie of Mississippi; mother and step-father, Izetta Tate and husband Kenneth of Washington and nine grandchildren.

She was preceded in death y her father.

Franklin Allen Dawes

Franklin Allen Dawes, 34, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2006, at his residence.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church in Yale with the Rev. Steve Loop, pastor and Michael Dershem officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery at Cushing.

Visitation will be in the chapel of the Davis Yale Chapel, Yale, Tuesday and Wednesday prior to services.

Services are under the direction of the Davis Funeral Home.

The son of the late Albert Franklin Dawes and Caris A. Barton Dawes, he was born July 13, 1971, in Grand Rapids, Ohio, and was reared and educated in the Yale area, graduating from Yale High School.

He had worked in the oilfields prior to his death.

Survivors include his daughter, Chays Nicole Dawes of Tulsa; several aunts and uncles, including Bill and Marilyn Fitzpatrick of Pawnee, Richard and Lucille Barton of Ohio, Lowell Barton of Oregon, Marilyn Murray of Michigan, several cousins and other relatives and friends.

Serving as casket bearers will be Gary Fitzpatrick, Bobby Spears, Steven Hickman, Eddie Hickman, Heath Harris and Billy Cypret.

Maymie Alta Dennis

Maymie Alta Dennis, age 68, of Yale, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2006, in Drumright.

Services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church, Yale, with interment in Lawson Cemetery. Pastor Randall Newby and Brother Mich Dershem officiated. Services were entrusted to Palmer-Marler Funeral Home, Yale.

She was born June 20, 1937, to Lawrence and Bertha (Hubbard) Walker in Tahlequah.

She attended the First Baptist Church in Yale for many years. Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, collecting porcelain baby dolls and she loved going fishing. She also was a den mother for the Yale Cub Scouts in the past.

She was preceded in death by her father, one sister, two brothers and two children.

She is survived by her husband, George Dennis of the home; mother, Bertha Walker of Tahlequah; one son, Steve Lewis and wife, Jana, of Yale; two daughters, Clarice Hagafisher of Yale and Kathy Moore and husband, Timothy, of Cushing; one step son, Gary Lewis and wife, Linda, of Colorado; one brother, Joe Walker and wife, Margaret, of Tahlequah and two sisters, Jean Caviness of Tahlequah and Joyce Lamont Meadows and husband, Glenn, of Texas.

Noel A. E. Miller

Noel A. E. Miller, 80 of Jacksonville, Fla., formerly of Cushing, died on Monday, Feb. 6, 2006 at the South Lake Nursing Home in Jacksonville. Memorial services will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006 at the Palmer Marler Funeral Chapel, Cushing.

Arrangements under the direction of Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing.

Noel was born June 8, 1925 in Howell County, Mo., to Nicholas Raymond and Beulah Jane (Robison) Miller. He grew up in West Plains, Mo., and graduated from West Plains High School. Noel joined the U.S. Coast Guard and served his country for 20 years. He married Patricia Jeanne Caulfield on Sept. 15, 1952 in Arlington, Va.

They lived in Cushing for more than 30 years, where Noel worked a number of years for Foresee Chevrolet as a shop foreman. He was a 32 degree Mason and a past Master of the local lodge. Noel was a past commander of the V.F.W. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion, V.F.W. and the D.A.V. Noel was a member of the Church of God, where his father helped build the church and donated a window in his sister Evelyn's and brother Gilbert's names and a baptistery in his brother Loel's name.

For three years in a row, Noel was awarded by the state of Oklahoma an award for being one of the most generous people in Oklahoma for giving donations to worthy causes. Noel was proud of his Native American heritage and helped to build several reservation schools. They moved to Jacksonville in 2003 to live with their daughter.

Noel is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patricia Miller of the home; son, Nicholas Miller; daughter, Noela Anlage and husband James Anlage; two granddaughters, Rebecca Anlage and Kathleen Anlage all of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews including Donna Hubbard and her husband Clarence of Cushing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Loel, Gilbert and Robert, sisters Sybil Cantrell and Evelyn Oesch.

Memorial contributions may be made in Noel's memory to the Masonic Charity Foundation of Oklahoma.

Bettye Leafgreen

Bettye Leafgreen, of Cushing, died on Feb. 10, 2006. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006 at the Park Place Baptist Church in Cushing. Burial will follow in the Kingfisher Memorial Lane Cemetery, Kingfisher, Okla. Arrangements are under the direction of Primrose Funeral Service.

Bruce G. Pogue

Rural Pottawatomie County resident, Bruce G. Pogue, 79, passed away Sunday, Feb. 12, at his home.

He was born Sept. 16,1926, in Wewoka, Okla. to Robert and Katie (Ross) Pogue. Bruce had five brothers and two sisters. He attended Wewoka grade school, then moved to the Ross homestead near Ripley, attending school there for several years, and attended high school in Cushing. Playing Cushing Tiger football was his passion until he saw a pretty blonde on a blue bicycle- Bruce fell in love with the bicycle, the blonde fell in love with him.

"Pop's" best job was being a greeter, the doorman, at his church; he loved his Lord, his family and his congregation, and he created friends out of strangers.

Bruce and Kathleen (Kit) M. Endicott were married in Cushing on June 8, 1947, after he returned from the Pacific Theater, Japan and China with the 4th Division of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Bruce worked as a groundskeeper at Oklahoma State University for 15 years and lived in Perkins prior to moving to Pottawatomie County last spring.

He leaves behind his precious wife of 58 years, Kit, of the home; daughter Diana Dickinson and her husband, Vernon of rural Pottawatomie County; son Les Pogue and his wife, Mary, of Cushing; son Vance Pogue of Mesa, Ariz.; daughter Gina Pogue and her fiance, Tim Springer of Wichita, Kan. and Oakdale, NE. and daughter Coleen Fountain and her husband, Paul of Wichita Kan.; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one brother, Pat Pogue and his wife, Mary of Oklahoma City; numerous nieces and nephews, adopted sons and daughters through the L.I.V.E. Ministries of the Church of God, and his OSU Family.

Service will be Thursday, Feb. 16, at 3 p.m. at the First Church of God, 1025 E. 9th, Shawnee. Burial will follow at the Dale Cemetery, Interstate 40 and Highway 102 South, west of Shawnee. Bruce's service is under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Shawnee.

Memorials can be made to the First Church of God Building Fund.

The family wishes to thank Prairie View Hospice of Chandler, Okla. for their excellent care and compassion for us.

Bobby Monroe Todd

Bobby Monroe Todd, 66, died Saturday, Feb. 18 in Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Oak Grove Baptist Church in Cushing. The Rev. Vic Morlan and the Rev. Mike Murray will officiate.

Burial will follow in Euchee Valley Cemetery in Cushing under the direction of Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Cushing.

Todd was born Oct. 1, 1939, on his family's farm southeast of Perkins to Edward and Edith (Grimes) Todd.

He grew up in the Cushing and surrounding area and attended Pleasant View, Free Silver and Cushing schools.

He married Betty Jones on April 28, 1956, in Cushing.

He worked for Ahrberg Milling Co. as mill foreman, Dresser Titan as a diesel mechanic and Black Gold Acid and Frac as a shop foreman and diesel mechanic.

He owned and operated the Cimarron Choice Restaurant and Judge Roy Beans of Cushing for many years.

Todd loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed having fish fries for family and friends. He enjoyed watching sports, gardening and sharing memories with family and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Marie Radford.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Betty, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene and Carol Todd and Mike and Lori Todd, all of Cushing; four grandchildren, Kym Pierce and husband Jason, Keri Todd, Bryan Todd and Mollie Todd, all of Cushing; and one great-grandchild, Brennon Pierce of Cushing. Todd was also looking forward to a second great-grandchild, baby Pierce.

Todd is also survived by three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Norman and Flo Todd of Cushing, Melvin and Onie Todd of Texas and Donald Todd of California; six sisters and four brothers-in-law, Virginia and Clarence Silkwood, Helen and Shelby Jester, Arzella and Wayne Dennis and Norma Jean McBride, all of the Cushing area, Dolly and E.W. Jauch of California and Imogene Oakes of Idaho; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Todd, Jason Pierce, Marty Lawson, Donnie Lawson, Kenny Jones Sr. and Jim Goad.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Jones, Kenny Jones Jr., Clarence Silkwood, Delbert Patterson, Jack Jones, Wayne Dennis and Shelby Jester.
