Veronica K. Duggan

Earlsboro resident Veronica K. Duggan died Monday in a Seminole hospital. She was 16.

Veronica was born Sept. 3, 1983, in Shawnee, the daughter of Kenneth and Mary Duggan.

She was a student at Strother High School, and active in the Sooner Teamsters and Trail Riders Association.

She was a member of the Johnson Church of God.

Veronica was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Survivors include her parents, Kenneth and Mary Duggan, of the home; two brothers, Bobby Duggan and Kevin Duggan, both of Shawnee; three sisters, Angela Duggan, Twana Russell and Kelly Birge, all of Shawnee; and her grandmother, Wanda Duggan, Shawnee.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Church of God with the Rev. Charles Higgins officiating.

Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery, under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel of Shawnee.

Alvin Leroy McCool Sr.

Alvin "Alvie" Leroy McCool Sr. of Newalla died Saturday. He was 63.

He was born to Samuel and Voyza (Roper) McCool April 27, 1937, in Red Oak.

Survivors include his wife, Ola, of the home; four sons, Alan and wife Joyce of McLoud; Alvin Jr. and wife Donna of Newalla; Ralph of Newalla; Frank and wife Brenda of Oklahoma City; one daughter, Jennifer Whatley and husband Jerry of Wellston; two brothers, Charles of Kansas City, Kan.; Dale of Flagstaff, Ariz.; one sister, Retha Mae Swartz of Kingman, Ariz.; eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many other family members and friends.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Elmwood Cemetery located in Choctaw. Arrangements directed by Asa Smith Funeral Service.

Winzola Ginn Trent

Winzola Ginn Trent of Whittier, Calif., died Monday. She was 82.

She was born Dec. 3, 1917, in Chandler. She was the daughter of Perry Oscar "P.O" and Kathyran "Kate" (Bangs) Ginn.

She had lived in Whittier, Calif., for many years. She worked at Montgomery Wards and Fed-Mart.

She was also a mother and homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, T.J. Trent; both of her children, Joan Trent Luitweiler and Charles Trent; two grandchildren, Brian Luitweiler and Michael Trent; four brothers, Barreak Ginn, Shelton Richard "Dick" Ginn, James Franklin "Jim" Ginn and Oscar "Jack" Ginn.

Survivors include five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, one brother, Harlen R. Ginn of Chandler; one sister, Avis A. Davenport of Shawnee; many nieces and nephews.

No funeral arrangements have been announced.

The family has designated the Cancer Research Foundation as appropriate for memorials.

Charlotte Jean Leonard

Charlotte Jean Leonard of Seminole died Monday at an Oklahoma City hospital. She was 56.

She was born Sept. 25, 1943, in Prague. She was the daughter of Arley Newton Smith and Norma (Coleman) Anderson.

She was a lifelong Seminole County resident. Mrs. Leonard was a homemaker.

She was affiliated with Bowlegs Assembly of God Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Arley N. Smith; daughter, Debra Jean; stepfather, Leonard Anderson; twin granddaughters, Arlie and Amber.

Survivors include her mother, Norma Anderson of Bowlegs; one son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Theresa Leonard of Ada; three daughters and one son-in-law, Dawnita Cloud and Darlene Anderson both of Seminole; Jackie and Star Veach of Bowlegs; three brothers, John Smith and Jerry Smith both of Bowlegs; Jimmy Smith of Woodward; one sister, Martha Novotny of Bowlegs; grandchildren, Joshua and Gary of Konawa; Jason and Justin of Paden; Courtney of Tyler, Texas; Tyler of Ada; Sharlet and Eldon of Bowlegs.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Oakdale Cemetery with the Rev. Roy Robertson Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Oakdale Cemetery, Paden, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Lowell Curtis Durbin

Lowell Curtis "Bunny" Durbin of Norman died Tuesday. He was 91.

He was born Oct. 16, 1908, in LaCleed County, Mo., the son of Harrison Valentine and Frances Clementine Kendrick Durbin. He attended high school in Blackwell.

Durbin worked in the oil fields in Oklahoma and Texas and the steel mills in Pittsburgh, Pa. He was a union organizer in Oklahoma and Pennsylvania.

He played semi-professional baseball and was a professional boxer. Durbin married Florence Beatrice (Bea) Coleman on Oct. 15, 1940, in the Pittsburgh, Pa., area.

He worked on the Installation of the Alcan Pipeline and other defense jobs during World War II, later working for Consumer Power Company for 27 years in the northern Detroit suburbs. After retirement they moved to Shawnee.

He came to Norman in December of 1996.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother, Cecil Durbin and one sister, Verba Anderson.

Survivors include three sons, Alan C. Durbin and wife Marilyn of Norman; Raymond C. Durbin and wife Chris of Oklahoma City and William H. Durbin of Norman; one daughter, Frances Dee Durbin of Norcross, Ga.; eight grandchildren, Lisa Barrett, Laura Durbin, Greg Durbin, Jessica Rankin, Jennifer Smith, Curtis Smith, Neil Durbin and Harrison Durbin and three great-grandchildren, Jay Rankin, Jordan Rankin and William Ryan Barrett.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday in Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Norman with the Rev. Scott Love officiating. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation at the Havenbrook Funeral Home will be from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.

Bill Moreland

Earlsboro resident Bill Moreland died Sunday at his home. He was 74.

Moreland was born May 23, 1925, in Stilwell to Apostle Paul "Bud" and Lottie Wilson Moreland.

He married Elsie May Jackson on Jan. 6, 1945, in Shawnee.

He was employed at Shawnee Iron and Metal for 16 years and was a truck driver for Barton Valve Co. until retirement in 1977. He lived in the Shawnee area most of his life.

Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Kay Harris, Shawnee; Margaret Ann and Freddie Joe White, Earlsboro; and Berniece Elizabeth and Tracey Young, Shawnee; sons and daughter-in-law, Larry Dean Moreland, Shawnee, and Lloyd Eugene and Becky Moreland, Shawnee; sisters, Dora Mae Smith, Florence, Colo., and Bessie Ellen Bristow, Shawnee; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a son and a grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Guy Cagle officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery, under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Chester Jackson

Chester Jackson died Friday in Norman. He was 83.

Jackson was born May 20, 1916, in Konawa, to Henry and Emeline Jackson.

He married Margie Elliott on July 2, 1939, in Konawa.

He was a farmer and oil field worker until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of the Wetumka First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Margie and Doyle Sexton, Asher; Martha and Kenneth Hester, Sylvia, Kan.; Mary Beth and Leroy Wilhelm, Fort Cobb; sons and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Patricia Jackson, Davenport, and Paul Wayne Jackson, Oklahoma City; brother, Alvie Jackson, Del City; sister, Norma Edwards, Stuart; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one sister, and a daughter, Dorothy Prewitt.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Wetumka, with the Rev. Randy McCown and the Rev. Frank Hester officiating. Burial will be in the Vista Cemetery west of Konawa, under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home of Wetumka.

Mary Kathrine Merry

Chandler resident Mary Kathrine Merry died Saturday at her home. She was 62.

Mrs. Merry was born Feb. 23, 1937, in Oklahoma City to Garland L. and Lela (Porter) Wayland.

She lived in the Chandler area most of her life. She worked in the abstracting business since 1955, owning Oklahoma Abstract and later working at Abstract and Guaranty of Chandler, retiring in February. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Chandler.

Survivors include her mother, of Chandler; son and daughter-in-law, Gordon and Kandy Merry, Chandler; daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Val Schott, Oklahoma City; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and April Wayland, Glen and Judy Wayland, John and Donna Wayland and Mike and Alisha Wayland, all of Chandler, and Garland Jr. and Vivian Wayland, Little Rock, Ark.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Faye and Gene Long, Chandler, Doris Dowell, Edmond, Wanda and Bud Uselton, Midwest City, and Treva and Buford Parrott, Chandler; grandchildren, Jeremy, Levi and Kacy Carney, Oklahoma City, Kaylee Cunningham, Samantha Merry and Justin Merry, all of Chandler; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at the Parks Brother Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Rick Blackwell officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Park Cemetery, Chandler, under the direction of the Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Chandler.

Memorials may be made to Lincoln County Hospice.

J.P. Manley

Shawnee resident J.P. Manley died Saturday at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was 76.

Manley was born March 31, 1923, in Konawa to Jarrett P. and Lona (Riley) Manley.

He was a retired oil field worker and a veteran of World War II. He attended the Baptist church. He moved to Shawnee in 1972 and lived here since that time.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn L. Manley, Shawnee; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Bud and Mary Snider, Gunnison, Colo.; Frank and Mary Monroe, Shawnee; Grady and Bobbie Snider, Shawnee; Floyd and Donna Snider, Wewoka; and Oris Farris, Shawnee; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. E.T. Long officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park, under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home. The casket will be opened until service time and will not be opened after the service.

The family has designated the American Cancer Society, 3800 Cromwell, Oklahoma City, Okla. 73112, as appropriate for memorials.

Helen Stearman

Shawnee resident Helen Stearman died Saturday in Oklahoma City. She was 68.

Mrs. Stearman was born June 17, 1930, in Arkansas to Bertie and Mandy Tharp Walters.

She married Clifford Stearman on July 5, 1963, in Arkansas. He preceded her in death in 1986.

She was a self-employed glass blower and lived in Shawnee for 15 years.

Survivors include five daughters Patricia Wilson, Shawnee; Carol Ewing, Indiana; Kathy Nickels, Kansas; Hazel Jenkins, Arkansas; and Liz Chastain, Oklahoma City; sons, Larry Ewing, Michigan; Kenny Ewing, Shawnee; and Clifford Stearman, Oklahoma City; sisters, Ellen Whittaker, Nellie Money, Dorothy Carlton, all of Arkansas, and Annie Anderson, Louisiana; brothers, Bertie Walters, Arkansas, and Ray Walters, Illinois; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Danny Walters.

Services will be at 4 p.m. today at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. John Morton officiating. Burial will be at Jamison Cemetery, under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
