Niranjana P. Vyas

Niranjana P. Vyas of Shawnee died of cardiac arrest Friday in an Oklahoma City hospital. She was 68.

She was born May 25, 1930, in Gujrat, India.

Prayer service will be Saturday evening at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Preceding her in death was Dr. Pravinchandra D. Vyas.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Kiran and Sujata Vyas, Anil and Jaguruti Vyas; daughter, Pratima Vyas, Fort Smith, Ark.; son-in-law, Sanat Vyas, Fort Smith, Ark.; grandsons, Anant Vyas, Shyam Vyas, Kekur Vyas, and granddaughters, Neema Vyas and Anjali Vyas.

Justin Cole Greenlee

Midwest City resident Justin Cole Greenlee died Thursday at a Midwest City hospital. He was 25.

Greenlee was born Aug. 18, 1973, in Midwest City to Johnny and Clois Greenlee. He was a 1991 graduate of McLoud High School, where he wrestled and played football. He was a carpenter.

Survivors include his wife, Tracy, Midwest City; children, Brooke, Jayden and Riley, all of Midwest City; parents, Clois Gimenez, McLoud; John and Patty Greenlee, McLoud; sisters, Sherri Greenlee, McLoud; Keili Effinger, Shawnee; brothers, Anthony Greenlee, Granite; Daniel Greenlee, Lawton; grandparents, Otis and Martha Greenlee, Choctaw; Margia Conaway, Edmond; Elvion and Leona Kortemier, Mustang; and many other relatives and friends.

Wake services will be 7 p.m. Sunday and funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Monday, both at St. Vincent DePauls Church in McLoud, with Father Eugene Marshall officiating. Burial will be in St. Teresa's Catholic Cemetery, Harrah, under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service, Harrah.

Larry Don VanZant Jr.

Wewoka resident Larry Don "D.J." VanZant Jr. died Wednesday in Wewoka. He was 23.

VanZant was born July 25, 1975, in Okemah to Larry Don VanZant Sr. and Rita LeMay. He graduated from Okemah High School in 1994 and joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He was of the Holiness faith.

Survivors include his parents, Larry Don VanZant Sr. and Rita VanZant; three brothers, Bobby VanZant, Pendleton, Ore.; Tyler VanZant and Russell VanZant, both of Okemah; three sisters, Shawna Stanley, Medford, Ore.; Nikki VanZant, Bakersfield, Calif.; Stephanie VanZant, Orlando, Fla.; grandparents, Don and Bobbie VanZant, Bristow; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Evelyn and Jackie Dearman; and one aunt, Debra VanZant.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel, Okemah, with Paul Heard officiating. Burial will be in Welty Cemetery.

Dolores Fydell Ellison

Dolores Fydell Ellison of Norman died Friday at Norman Regional Hospital. She was 64.

Surviving are her husband, Royce Gene Ellison of Norman; three children, Johnny Ellison of Norman, Curtis Ellison of Tecumseh, and Kathy Vanderburg of Norman; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Stephens United Methodist Church in Norman. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. in the Prague Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.

Charley Jackson

Okemah resident Charley Jackson died Monday at an Okemah hospital. He was 90.

Jackson was born Jan. 30, 1909, in Stroud to Arthur and Nora Fontaine Jackson.

He married Temple Webster March 1, 1978.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Depew as well as a retired farmer and oilfield worker.

Survivors include his wife, Temple Jackson, of the home; sons, Bill Jackson, Tulsa, and David Jackson, Depew; daughters, Lenora McGuire, Depew, Barbara Cox, Bristow, Linda Caldwell, Mannford, Diana Graham, Broken Arrow, and Janie Birch, Lenexa, Kan.; stepsons, Don Langwell, Seminole, and Jim Langwell, San Antonio, Texas; stepdaughter, Wilma Plank, Springfield, Ohio; sisters, Lila Copenhaver, Cushing, Vera Bell, Stroud, Ruth Lloyd, Chandler, and Marie Hearron, Golden, Colo.; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Patricia Hurt; grandson, Richard Scott Graham; six brothers; and one sister.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bristow Holiness Church, with Brother Paul Heard officiating and the Rev. Melvin Duke assisting. Burial will be at Bristow City Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Okemah.

Richard Ray Zierke

Shawnee resident Richard Ray Zierke died Sunday at his home. He was 33.

Zierke was born Feb. 4, 1966, in New Richmond, Wis., to Earl and Jimmie O. (Chappell) Zierke.

He attended Shawnee Public Schools then graduated in 1984 from Wilburton High School. He was a member of the National Honor Society at both schools as well as a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his mother and step-father, Jimmie O. and James I. Ream, Shawnee; father, Earl R. Zierke, Columbus, Ga.; brother, Michael Zierke, Phoenix, Ariz.; his niece Ashley Nicole Zierke and nephew Clayton Leonard both of Kingfisher; and many other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Jimmie Lee Chappell and Barbara Tackett.

Services will take place at a later time under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Melvin D. McBride

Rural Okemah resident Melvin D. McBride died Monday at a Tulsa Hospital. He was 57.

McBride was born Sept. 21, 1941, in Geary to Barney and Verna Wright McBride.

He married Jo Parson on Dec. 23, 1961, in Carnegie.

He attended Last Chance Baptist Church and was an auctioneer and farmer/rancher.

Survivors include his wife, Jo McBride, of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Annette and Mike Yocham, Last Chance, and Kathy and Kenny Allen, Mason; brothers, Norman McBride of Oklahoma City and Glen McBride of Newalla; sisters, Doris Sechrist, Midwest City, and Barbara Outz, Gillette, Wyo.; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Vance officiating and the Rev. Jim Waller assisting. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Okemah.

Julia D. Herndon

Lifetime Dow, Okla., resident Julia D. Herndon died Saturday at a Tecumseh nursing home. She was 90.

Mrs. Herndon was born Oct. 4, 1908, in Dow to Giovanni and Madalena Merlina Persiani.

She married K.E. Herndon March 2, 1939, in Wilburton. He preceded her in death in 1968.

She was a homemaker and member of the Dow Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Maxine and Louis Marzuola, Shawnee; sister, Inez Stoker, San Jose, Calif.; grandchildren and their spouses, Juli Marzuola, Edmond; Shelia and Gary Rose, Midwest City; and Randol and Jocelyn Marzuola, Ponca City; and seven great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Jon Russell Gilby, Tampa, Florida, Renee Marzuola, Tulsa, Denise Rose, Melissa Rose, and Michael Rose, Midwest City, Jeremy Marzuola, Ponca City, and Allison Martin, Edmond.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, John Persiani in 1962, Robert Persiani in 1995 and Albert Persiani in 1996.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mills Funeral Home Chapel in Hartshorne with the Rev. Dub Brown officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in McAlester.

Visitation is set for 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Mills Funeral Home Chapel in Hartshorne.

Rachael Mae Hight

Rachael Mae Hight, daughter of the Rev. Richard and Martha Hight of Tulsa, was stillborn Saturday at a Tulsa hospital.

Survivors include her parents; grandmothers, Marilyn Glass, Tulsa, and Betty J. Hight, Shawnee; grandfather, Wallace Boyd, Texas; and great-grandfather William H. Barber, Tulsa; and many other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, James C. Hight, and great-grandmother, Erla Mae Barber.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Floral Haven Cemetery in Broken Arrow.

Jack Monroe Lovette

Jack Monroe Lovette of Shawnee died Sunday at his home. He was 49.

He was born Nov. 1, 1950, in Shawnee. He was the son of Herman Lovette and Rosemary (Lindsay) Lovette.

He attended Shawnee Public Schools. Lovette was self-employed for 20 years as a cement contractor.

He served in the U.S. Army and is a Vietnam veteran. He also earned a Purple Heart.

He had lived in Shawnee all of his life.

He was preceded in death by one infant son, Jason Lovette.

Survivors include father, Herman Lovette, Kansas; mother, Rosemary Lovette, Shawnee; two daughters, Sheila Lightner, Shawnee; Jackie Wood, Tecumseh; three sons, Jesse Lovette, Shawnee; Jeremy Lovette, Tecumseh; Timothy Lovette, Tecumseh and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Guy Cagle officiating. Burial will be at Little Cemetery, under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Art Hale

Art Hale died Monday in Antioch, Calif. He was 70.

He was born Dec. 26, 1929, in Shawnee. He was a resident of Antioch, Calif., for 40 years. Prior to that he lived in Napa, Calif.

Hale was retired, but had worked as a heavy equipment operator with Operating Engineers Local No. 3 in Oakland, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathleen Brazil.

Survivors include his wife, Delores Hale of Antioch, Calif.; sons, Keith Hale of Shawnee; Donald Hale of Springfield, Ore.; grandchildren, Heather Hale Gilmore and Keith Hale, Jr., both of Shawnee; Shane Hale and Christopher Hale of Florida; Sherry and Artie Brazil of California; great-grandchildren, Chadrick D. Gilmore Jr. and Julieann Gilmore; sisters, Pauline Murphy and Lucille Murphy of Shawnee.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Higgins Chapel, Antioch, Calif. Burial will be at Oak View Cemetery, Antioch, Calif., under the direction of Higgins Funeral Chapel.

Noel Robert Thomas

Noel Robert Thomas of Okemah died at his home in Okemah. He was 29.

He was born June 16, 1970, in Westminister, Md. He was the son of John Robert Thomas and Sylvia Marie Sonntag.

Thomas was of a Baptist faith and was a heat and air technician for Deaton's Electric. He moved to the area in 1983 and attended Butner High School.

Survivors include his father, John Thomas of Salisbury, Md.; his mother, Sylvia Eddings and husband, Dana of Okemah; three brothers, James McCartny of Edmond; Brian McCartny of Union Bridge, Md. and Chris Allen of Durant; two sisters, Pamela Dees of Shawnee; Michelle Adair of San Jose, Calif.; one stepbrother, Dana Eddings Jr. of Yukon; one stepsister, Linda Morgan of McAlester; maternal grandparents, Clarence and Verna Mae Sonntag of St. Petersburg, Fla., and friend, Lori Kramer of Okemah.

Graveside services will be held 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Highland Cemetery with the Rev. Curtis Townley officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Okemah.

Donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
