Wanda Bennett Christian

Harrah resident Wanda Bennett Christian died Sunday. She was 62.

Mrs. Christian was born Aug. 6, 1937, in Gracemont to Clarence and Jessie (Jennings) Singleton.

Survivors include her husband, Stacy, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Liz Bennett, Moore; daughter and son-in-law, Rochelle and Larry Morris, McLoud; mother, Jessie Henry, Harrah; three sisters, Joyce Bussler, Harrah; Betty Conn, Las Vegas, Nev.; Velda Armstrong, Harrah; seven grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. today at Jamieson Cemetery, northeast of Harrah, under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service.

Antonio M. Martie

Shawnee resident Antonio M. łTony˛ Martie died Monday at a local hospital. He was 76.

Martie was born Jan. 4, 1924, in Chandler to Albert and Jimmie Martie. He married Wanda Markham March 10, 1948, in Shawnee.

He attended school in Chandler and graduated from Shawnee High School. He retired from E-Systems, Garland, Texas, where he was an electronics technician. He played in the Tailgaters band and was a Presbyterian.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Martie, of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Brenda Martie, Little Elm, Texas; Christopher and Electra Martie, Sanger, Texas; four grandchildren, Donny, Kevin, Melody and Paul; two great-grandchildren and two sisters, Roseanne DeHaven, Middleton, Calif.; and Pauline Genzer and her hsuband Bob, Shawnee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Martie and Paul and Jimmie Lightner.

Memorial services will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ed Bullard officiating.

Edith A. Marshall

Lawton resident Edith A. Marshall died Monday. She was 93.

Mrs. Marshall was born Sept. 24, 1906, in Shawnee. She attended school at Dale and married Jesse L. Marshall on Dec. 18, 1926, in Tecumseh. She was a homemaker.

She moved to Lawton in May 1998. She was a member of Rock Creek Baptist Church for more than 50 years before moving her membership to the First Baptist Church in Lawton.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Retha and Don Phillips, Lawton; son, Joe Edward Marshall, Shawnee; seven grandchildren, Scott Phillips, Calvin; Judith Phillips Bridges, Elgin; Stephen T. Phillips, Lawton; Jeanene Marshall Villigran, Athens, Texas; Eddie Joe Marshall, Shawnee; Diane Marshall Szymanski, Indianapolis, Ind.; and Philip Marshall, Shawnee; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1989; and her son, Wayne Marshall.

Services will be 3 p.m. Friday at Rock Creek Baptist Church, Shawnee, with the Rev. R. Reed Lynn and the Rev. Scott Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery under the direction of Becker Funeral Home, Lawton. Viewing will be noon to 3 p.m. Friday at Rock Creek Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, P.O. Box 53303, Oklahoma City, OK 73152.

Marie Moore

Shawnee resident Marie Moore died Saturday at a local hospital. She was 65.

Mrs. Moore was born Oct. 13, 1934, in Austin, Texas, to Francis and Mary Pruitt. She married Joe P. Moore on Jan. 6, 1950, in Shawnee.

She was a homemaker and had lived in Shawnee since 1950.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Moore, Shawnee; David Moore, Edmond; Mr. and Mrs. George Moore, Shawnee; Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Moore, Pennsylvania; Edmond Moore, Shawnee; and Paul Moore, Shawnee; and one daughter, Betty Moore.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Fairview Mausoleum under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Mike Craig officiating.

Ben Robison

Ben Robison of Meeker died Monday in a local hospital. He was 82.

He was born Jan. 8, 1918, in Maud to David and Lenora (Cope) Robison. He attended school at Romulus and Maud and later worked as carpenter.

He married Lenora Deel Dec. 28, 1936, in Macomb. She preceded him in death on Aug. 21, 1997.

Robison served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church of Meeker.

He lived in the Choctaw and Meeker areas most of his life.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife; one son, Billy Gene and daughter Peggy Lou; sister Arlena Neiger.

Survivors include his son, Jim L. Robison of Choctaw; four grandchildren, Jim L. Robison Jr. of Oklahoma City; Connie Albert of Texas; Cathy Friday of Choctaw and Shawn Robison of Choctaw; seven great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and two brothers, Wiley Robison of Meeker and Frank Robison of Nicoma Park; a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Choctaw Cemetery with the Rev. Don Stewart officiating. Burial is under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

William Franklin Bussey

Lifelong Maud resident William Franklin "Frank" Bussey died Friday at his home. He was 85.

He was born June 10, 1915, in Maud, the son of George William Bussey and Viola (Ward) Bussey.

Bussey was married Sept. 22, 1938, in Maud to Anna Lucile Works, who preceded him in death June 19, 1981. He married Madge Marie Ray on July 30, 1991, in Shawnee.

Bussey, a veteran of the U.S. Army, was a pipeliner for Stallings Construction, retiring in 1975.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Maud.

He also was preceded in death by one son Jim Bussey July 3, 1989; one sister, one brother and his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Madge Bussey of the home; three sons, Gene Bussey of Diaz, Ark.; David Bussey of Seminole; Mike Bussey of Maud; three daughters, Nora "Sister" Brenner of Kalispell, Mont.; Erma Taff of Maud; Sandie Joplin of Maud; one brother, John Bussey of Durant; four sisters, Lula Mathis of Wichita Falls, Texas; Alvira Johnson of California; Lorene Starkey of Konawa; Letha Westmorlan of Spiro; 20 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, four stepsons and one stepdaughter.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Maud, with the Rev. Carl Whitfield and the Rev. Glen Penze officiating. Burial will be at Cummings Cemetery, Maud. Knight Funeral Home, Maud, is in charge of arrangements.

Beatrice Booker

Beatrice "Bea" Booker of Shawnee died Thursday at a local nursing home. She was 88.

She was born Jan. 11, 1913, in Atoka to James Henry and Bessie (Hopkins) Benton.

Mrs. Booker, a homemaker, was married Dec. 14, 1952, in Norman to Robert H. Booker, who preceded her in death.

A member of the Downtown Pentecostal Holiness Church. Mrs. Booker had lived in Shawnee since 1920.

She also was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Joan Reeves of Shawnee; Randall and Beth Booker of Shawnee; five grandchildren, Larry Reeves of Shawnee; Luanne and Philip Mosier of Shawnee; Megan Booker of Muskogee; Mitchell Booker of Muskogee; Johnny Booker of Muskogee; one sister, Cleo Ruminer of Shawnee; one sister-in-law, Kate Benton of Shawnee; two great-granddaughters, one great-great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.

The casket will remain open until service time and will not be reopened after the service.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Downtown Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. C.C. Atchley officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery. Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Gary Edward Holleman

Gary Edward Holleman, 36, Stroud, died Friday near Stillwater.

He was born Aug. 20, 1964, in Midwest City, the son of Eugene and Shirley (Melson) Holleman.

Holleman, who had lived in the Stroud area for many years, was a salesman.

He married Kim Hurst April 7, 1989, in Chandler.

Survivors include his wife, Kim Holleman of the home; one son, Zachary Levi Holleman of the home; one daughter, Jennifer Holleman of the home; his mother and father, Eugene and Shirley Holleman of Chandler; one brother, Charles Holleman of Chandler; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Beth and Charles Nichols of Chandler; Deborah and Russell Norman of Davenport and other relatives and many friends.

Prayer services will be 7 p.m. today at the Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Stroud with Father Lafferty officiating.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Stroud High School Auditorium with the Rev. Randy Ethridge and Father Lafferty officiating. Burial will follow at the Stroud Cemetery, Stroud.

Jimmie Lou Spaugy

Former Shawnee resident Jimmie Lou Spaugy, 68, Denison, Texas, died Thursday at a Denison, Texas, hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Resthaven Funeral Home in Shawnee with the Rev. Bill Shaw officiating.

Burial is at Resthaven Memorial Park in Shawnee.

Calvin Jones IV

Calvin Jones IV died Monday. He was 51.

Jones was born Dec. 2, 1948, in Shawnee to Calvin III and Jewel Dean Jones.

He attended Dunbar Elementary School in Shawnee and graduated from Shawneee High School in 1967. He attended Okmulgee Vocational School and studied auto mechanics.

He served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1968-70, before he was honorably discharged.

Jones was president of the NAACP in 1990 and worked with children in the Shawnee area. He owned and operated Shawnee Performance Garage for many years and attended Nelson Chapel C.M.E. Church, Shawnee.

He married Rania Williams, then later married Marva Lewis.

Survivors include three children, Sharee Jones; Felicia and Destiny Jones, both of Oklahoma City; stepdaughter, Shelley Lewis; his mother, Jewel Dean Jones, Shawnee; sister and brother-in-law, Loretta and Sam Maxie, St. Paul, Minn.; brothers, Victor Jones and Darnell Adamson, both of Shawnee; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Calvin Jones III; a brother, Bobby Ray Jones; and a nephew, Vincent Keith Jones.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Galilee Baptist Church, Shawnee, with the Rev. H.M. Burnett officiating. Burial will be at Earlsboro Cemetery under the direction of Temple and Sons Funeral Directors, Inc., Oklahoma City.

Alvin George Harjo

Seminole resident Alvin George Harjo died Wednesday in an Ada hospital. He was 81.

Harjo was born on Sept. 7, 1918, in Haney, Little community, the son of Willea and Wisey (Tiger) Harjo.

He married Alice Riley on July 1, 1948, in Konawa.

He served with the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a retired general laborer.

Harjo was a lifelong Seminole resident, and a member of the Snake Creek Indian Baptist Church.

He was a member of the Mekusukey Band of the Seminole Nation.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willea and Wisey Harjo; a half brother, Eugene Kernal; and an aunt, Saley Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Harjo, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, David Al and Sarita Harjo, Tecumseh; four daughters and a son-in-law, Gearldine and Ron Evans, Norman; Wisey A. Harjo, Tahlequah; Rebecca M. Coyote, Oklahoma City; Annette Harjo, of the home; a half-sister, Helen Ramirez, Mexico; and four grandchildren, Kristen Evans, Oklahoma City; Heith Harjo and Jeremy Harjo, both of Tecumseh; Kelly M. Evans, Norman.

Wake service will be at 6:30 p.m. today at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole.

Service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Snake Creek Indian Baptist Church, with the Rev. Houston Tiger and the Rev. Bill Hobia officiating.

Burial will be in Snake Creek Church Cemetery.
