Ora E. Shaw

Former Oklahoma City resident Ora E. Shaw, 81, Berrien Springs, Mich., died Thursday at the home of her daughter following an illness.

She was born April 10, 1918, in Muskogee to the late Ora and Edna (Fowler) Foster.

She married Wilburn H. Shaw March 24, 1936, in Oklahoma City. They were married for more than 63 years.

Mrs. Shaw worked as an LPN for many years, retiring in 1983 from South Community Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was a member of the Southern Hills Seventh Day Adventist Church for 63 years.

She was an artist and taught at the Oklahoma City Junior Academy. She was an active Dorcas Society member.

Mrs. Shaw and her husband spent eight years in the "dark counties" of eastern Oklahoma in literature evangelism, helping establish churches in Miami and McAlester.

Survivors include her husband, Wilburn H. Shaw, and daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia A. and John Baldwin, Berrien Springs, Mich.

Her brother, Edwin Foster, preceded her in death in 1997.

Services will be scheduled at a later date in Oklahoma City. She will be buried at Gracelawn Cemetery in Edmond.

Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma City Southern Hills Seventh Day Adventist Church Community Services.

Legacy Family Funeral Services, Berrien Springs, is in charge of arrangements.

Stephen Burt Newnam

Stephen Burt Newnam, 50, Del City, died Wednesday.

He was born March 8, 1949, in Prague, to O.B. and Wanda (Rives) Newnam.

He was a 1968 Choctaw High School graduate.

Newnam married Terri D. White in 1971.

He was employed with Dayton Tire for 28 years, and of the Christian faith.

Survivors include his wife, Terri Newnam, of the home; two sons, Cory Newnam, Del City; Roy Dean Newnam, Midwest City; his parents, O.B. and Wanda Newnam, Nicoma Park; a brother, Charlie Newnam, Midwest City; four sisters, Joyce Bevel, Atlanta, Ga.; Judy Leal, Oklahoma City; Kathie Armstrong, Midwest City; Jan Hurt, Newalla; a grandson, Kurt McFeeters, Oklahoma City; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today, at Bill Eisenhour Southeast Chapel, Del City.

Burial will be in Sunny Lane Cemetery, Del City.

Robert Joseph Lehman

Robert Joseph "Bob" Lehman, Konawa, died Wednesday in Ada. He was 55.

Lehman was born on Aug. 12, 1944, in Sacred Heart Community, to Bill and Cecilia Lehman.

He married Diana Lynn on May 30, 1983, in Konawa.

He was an oil well driller.

Lehman was preceded in death by his mother, Cecilia Lehman; and a brother, Billy Ray Lehman.

Survivors include his wife, Diana Lehman, of the home; son, Bobby Joe Lehman, Bowlegs; daughter, Kasey Rae Lehman, of the home; father, Bill Lehman, Konawa; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Tom and Kay Lehman, Byars; David Lehman, Konawa; a sister, Matilda Silas, Konawa; and two grandchildren.

Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at Pickard Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery, with Fr. Mathew Brown, O.S.B., officiating.

Paul James Hayden

Maud resident Paul James Hayden died Thursday in an Oklahoma City hospital. He was 90.

Hayden was born Aug. 23, 1909, in Atoka County, the son of Newton Levi and Ida Virginia (Cain) Hayden.

He married Mary Ardell Works on Oct. 22, 1945, in Maud. She preceded him in death on May 22, 1988.

He worked as a tool dresser for Dressler.

He was a member of the Maud Senior Citizen Nutrition Center and the Maud Historical Society.

Hayden moved to Maud from Atoka County in 1925.

He was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Lee Hayden; an infant son, Charles Ray Hayden; and his parents, Newton and Ida Hayden.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Charles Kostka, Sallisaw; four grandchildren, Leslie Bost, Midwest City; L.A. Dewbery, Texarkana, Texas; Janelle Anderson, Porterville, Calif.; Johnny Dewbery, Bromide; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Baptist Church in Maud, with the Rev. Wayne Taylor officiating.

Burial will be in Cummings Cemetery, Maud, under the direction of Knight Funeral Home in Maud.

Walter Henry Tiffin

Shawnee resident Walter Henry Tiffin died Wednesday at Norman Regional Hospital. He was 71.

Tiffin was born Nov. 12, 1928, in Quitaque, Texas. He married SuEtta Lewis on Nov. 23, 1957. He was a Jehovah's Witness.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Terry and Curtis Henry, Norman; Marquita and Roger Turner, Shawnee; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Donna Tiffin; three grandsons, Stephen Henry, Chaney and Michael Tiffin; one brother, Floydale Tiffin; four sisters, Billie Lou Shugurt, Montana; Juanita Jo Tiffin, Eva Mae George, Plainview, Texas; Wynell Williams, Rock Port, Texas; and many other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, on Sept. 5, 1991; and one sister, Jean Hamilton.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall, 1700 W. Slover, with Clay Talton officiating. The family will meet visitors prior to the service at 906 N. Kennedy.

Marie C. Sala

Marie C. Sala died Thursday at her home near Paden. She was 88.

Mrs. Sala was born Aug. 6, 1911, in Paden to Jesse and Lucy (Beaver) Chisholm. She was a longtime Okfuskee County resident. She was a homemaker and was a Methodist.

Survivors include her son, Bobby Ray Sala; daughter, Mildred Bullard, Paden; brother, Calvin Chisholm, Wichita, Kan.; two sisters, Marie Bluebird, Sperry; Norene Durant, Texas; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and one granddaughter-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Michael "Poke" Sala, on July 27, 1998; and Clem E. "Sammy" Sala, on Oct. 10, 1955; two brothers and three sisters.

Services will be 11 am. Tuesday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel, Prague, with Brother Paul Heard officiating. Burial will follow in the Prague Cemetery.

Bertha Lorene Worley

Bertha Lorene Worley, 85, Shawnee, died Wednesday at a local hospital. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Iola Ellen Gatlin

Iola Ellen Gatlin died Wednesday at her home in Meeker. She was 80.

She was born Oct. 29, 1920, in Sparks, the daughter of Charles W. and Bonnie Mae (Cunningham) Decker.

She grew up in Lincoln County and graduated from Sparks High School. She was married April 10, 1937, at Sparks, to Earl Cleo Gatlin, who preceded her in death June 25, 1989.

She and her husband moved to Meeker in 1972 after spending 20 years in Coffeyville, Kan. She was a homemaker and a member of the Assembly of God Church in Meeker.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Mischa Womack.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Calvin and Darlene Gatlin, Meeker; Carroll and Betty Gatlin, Tulsa; Donnie and Sheryl Gatlin, Guthrie; a daughter, Linda Gatlin, Meeker; three brothers, Cecil Decker, Midwest City; Charles Decker, Meeker; Melvin Decker, Edmond; a sister, Dorena Swearingen, Meeker; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is set for 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Parks Brothers Funeral Service Chapel in Meeker.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Assembly of God Church in Meeker with the Rev. Charles Pearcy and the Rev. Donnie Gatlin officiating. Committal services will follow at the New Hope Cemetery in Meeker.

Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service of Prague.

Virginia Mae (Branson) Bussey

Virginia Mae (Branson) Bussey of Tecumseh died Wednesday in Tecumseh. She was 70.

She was born Jan. 16, 1931, in Shawnee, the daughter of P.F. and Juanita Branson.

She lived in Oklahoma most of her life, briefly living in Texas and New Mexico.

In 1949, she married Henry Yates. She married James H. Stokes in 1969. In 1983, she married Lowell "Gene" Bussey, who preceded her in death in 1995.

She owned and operated Yates Grocery in Tecumseh for many years. She also was a clerk at Handy Dandy for many years.

She was active in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness. She was a caretaker at Forest Hill Cemetery for a number of years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers, Billy Bob and Jimmy Branson Sr.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Janice and Craig Huckeby of Purcell; Gevana and Roger Scalf of Maud; Barbara and Jason Bennehoof of Shawnee; Kathy and Gilbert Hudson of Seminole; Glenda and Chris Vaden of Tennessee and Jimmy and Valarie Stokes of Tecumseh; sister, Jean Fields of Honobia; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Cathy Branson of Honobia; Roy and Glenda Branson of Maud; Richard and Faye Branson of Honobia; 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Chapel, Tecumseh, with David Altizer officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery.

Austin Smith

Austin Smith of Little Axe died Tuesday while on a visit in Gibson County, Ind. He was 3.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Chapel, Tecumseh, with the Rev. Sunny Stuart officiating. Burial will be at Brown Cemetery.

Other information is pending.

Max W. Collins

Max W. Collins of Oklahoma City died Thursday at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was 84.

He was born July 10, 1916, in West Plains, Mo., the son of William S. Collins and Martha (Hall) Collins.

He was a self-employed musician who, through the years, had his own bands and played for many others. Collins was married to Phyllis Bradbury from 1936 to 1977.

Collins, a member of the Central Church of Christ, had lived in Shawnee since the age of 5.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Clark, Earl and Webb Collins; three sisters, Estee Hudson, Grace Upton and Louise Spindel.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Aletta Collins of Shawnee; Gary and Jan Collins of Oklahoma City; Ken and Cindy Collins of Oklahoma City; one brother, Bill Collins of Shawnee; one sister, Camea Guffey of Shawnee; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel with Doyle Loveland officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.
