Wanda Hines Ross

Wanda Hines Ross of Tecumseh died Tuesday in Tecumseh. She was 71.

She was born June 29, 1929, in Apache, the daughter of William Newton and Lena Pearl (Owens) Hines.

She was reared in Atoka County, and had lived in the Shawnee-Tecumseh area for the past 35 years. She as a nursing home cook and provider.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Survivors include two daughters, Audrey Wilson Miller of Las Vegas, Nev., and Evelyn Ross Wagner of Jones; her son, Walter Michael Lohden of Newalla; two sisters, Dovie Allen of Choctaw and Bernice Goss of Checotah; three brothers, Billie Hines of Sonoma, Calif.; Jerry DeWayne Hines of Oklahoma City; Bobby Glen Hines of Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be noon Saturday at Cooper Funeral Chapel, Tecumseh, with Troy Messer officiating.

Josephine Elephant Davis

Josephine Elephant Davis of Shawnee died Wednesday at her home. She was 88.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. Further arrangements will be announced.

James Lester Wade

Former Tecumseh resident James Lester "Leck" Wade of Carmen died Wednesday in Alva. He was 94.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the First Assembly of God Church in Tecumseh. Further arrangements will be announced by Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Beatrice Booker

Beatrice "Bea" Booker of Shawnee died Thursday at a local nursing home. She was 88.

Services are pending with Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Ruth McLain

Ruth McLain of Wellston died Thursday. She was 76.

Services are pending under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Chandler

L.D. Kessinger

L.D. Kessinger of Shawnee died Wednesday at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was 67.

He was born Sept. 17, 1933, in Harjo, the son of Lonnie and Sybbal (Stark) Kessinger.

Kessinger, a lifetime resident of the Tecumseh and Shawnee areas, graduated from Harjo High School.

He married Pauline Mullen on July 19, 1953, in Bowlegs. Kessinger, a minister, was a member of the Johnson Church of God.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sybbal (Stark) and Lonnie Kessinger; six brothers and one sister.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Kessinger of Shawnee; one son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Barbara Kessinger of Meeker; five daughters and sons-in-law, Jaquitta and Donnie Ellison of Meeker; Rhonda and George Willis of Shawnee; Pam and Rich Murdock of Porter, Texas; Beverly and Larry Brown of Shawnee; Lori Sparkman and Ernie Mabin of Emporia, Kan.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, James and Jo Mullen, Sharon and Sam Cole and Barry and Syble Wallace; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Johnson Church of God with the Rev. Charles Higgins officiating. Burial will be at Johnson Cemetery under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel. The casket will remain open until service time and will not be opened after the service.

Ella Ruth Martin

Ella Ruth Martin, 76, Buna, Texas, died Dec. 31, at Beaumont, Texas, after a lengthy illness.

She was born July 18, 1924, near Maud. Her twin brother died at birth. She lived in the Beaumont and Buna, Texas, area for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, A.A. "Bood" Duvall and Ada (Rutherford) Duvall of the Shawnee, Earlsboro and Maud areas; brothers, Edward and A.A. "Bud" Jr. of Shawnee; Curtis of Tecumseh; one sister, Wanda Macy of Guthrie.

Survivors include her husband, R.G. Martin of the home, Buna, Texas; four sisters, Alma Lee Brown and Reba Fern Elliott of Oklahoma City; Orene Bridges, Ardmore; Helen Chaffin, Seminole; a sister-in-law, Allie Montgomery; and many other relatives in the Shawnee area.

Cremation was at Beaumont Haven of Rest Cemetery under the direction of Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home.

O.B. Hale

O.B. "Dump" Hale, 87, of Maud died Friday at a local hospital.

He was born Nov. 19, 1913, in Pottsburg, Texas, the son of Lee Roy Hale and Amanda Ella (Layton) Hale.

He was a longtime Maud area resident.

Mr. Hale married Nina Pearl Brooks Jan. 11, 1936, in Maud. She preceded him in death on July 9, 1993.

He retired after 41 years of service from the "Katy" Railroad.

Mr. Hale was a member of the East Oak Church of God in Maud.

He held membership in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, American Association of Retired Persons, National Association of Retired Veteran Railroad Employees, Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees and was active at the Maud Senior Citizens Center.

He also was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Richard and Ollie Hale of Abilene, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia R. and Charles Pack of Davis and J. Inez and Lon Bowers of Maud; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clayton Hale and Lemual Hale, both of Maud.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at East Oak Church of God, Maud with the Rev. Odell Vandenburg and the Rev. Wayne Taylor officiating. Burial will be at Cummings Cemetery, Maud, under the direction of Knight Funeral Home of Maud.

Roy E. Bisbee

Roy E. Bisbee Jr., 70, died Friday at his home in Eufaula.

He was born Oct. 6, 1930, in Artesia, N.M., the son of Clara and Roy E. Bisbee Sr.

On Nov. 19, 1953, he married Opal Faye Austin in Okemah.

Mr. Bisbee worked in Shawnee in the heating and air conditioning business for many years before retiring and moving to Eufaula.

He was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Eufaula and was a deacon in Southern Baptist churches for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, one brother and son, Ray Bisbee.

Survivors include his wife Faye Bisbee of the home; son, Stephen Bisbee of Eufaula; daughter and son-in-law, Freda and Leon Odom of Atwood; three granddaughters and their husbands, Tina and Ken McKee, Kami and Danny Griffin and Loralie and Ron Wiseman; seven great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Eufaula with the Rev. John Basden and the Rev. Leon Odom officiating. Burial will be 2:30 p.m. in Resthaven Cemetery in Shawnee.

Services will be directed by Merritt Funeral Services of Eufaula.

Alvin Lester Beutler

Alvin Lester "Bud" Beutler died Friday in his Prague home at the age of 67.

He was born in Cashion, Okla., on March 7, 1933, the son of Herman and Alice (Robson) Beutler.

On July 20, 1952, he married Beulah Bostwick in Guthrie.He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict from 1953 to 1955. Following his discharge, he worked 14 years in the West Edmond Fields of the oil and gas industries. Beutler later drove a truck for 26 years, retiring in 1995.

He had been member of Cashion Christian Church since 1972.

Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters, Doreen West and Fern Parsons; brother, Theodore Beutler; and grandson, Donald Alan Maddox.

Survivors include his wife of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Alvin L. "Buddy" and Vicky Beutler II of Cashion; grandsons, Alvin L. "Trey" Beutler of Cashion and Kenneth Dale Maddox of Prague; granddaugters, Alisha Beutler of Cashion, Danielle Maddox and Elizabeth Maddox, both of Prague; sisters, Dorothy Pritchett of Guthrie, Jessie Davidson of Cashion and Florence Jenkins of Oklahoma City; and brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Pat Beutler of Cashion, James and Ina Beutler of Cashion and Harvey and Sharon Beutler of Cashion.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Cashion Cemetery. The Rev. Doug Hinkle will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Prague.

Rachel Eleanor (Tyner) Crossley

Rachel Eleanor (Tyner) Crossley died Friday in Shawnee. She was 79.

She was born in Shawnee on July 18, 1921, the daughter of Davis and Sallie (Hood) Tyner.

Mrs. Crossley was a graduate of Shawnee High School and attended Oklahoma A & M (OSU) for two years.

On March 20, 1943, she married Basil W. Crossley. The couple purchased a farm in the Rose Hill, Ky., community. In 1962, they moved to Norman. She moved to New Mexico in 1970 and to the Tecumseh area in 1973.

While living in Witchita, Kan., she worked in quality control with Beech Aircraft.

Mrs. Crossley was a member of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe and the Tribal Elders Council.

Preceding her in death were her parents; sister, Fern Wapp; and brother, Wallace Tyner.

Survivors include her husband of the home; daughters and son-in-law, Rachel Ann Crossley of Albuquerque, N.M. and Ruth Ellen and Mark Harder of Oklahoma City; sons and daughters-in-law, Burton Jay and Tessie Crossley of Elmo, Texas, Joseph Tyner Crossley of Dallas, Texas, and Orin and Camille Crossley of Oklahoma City; sister, Muriel Gene Parker of Tecumseh; sister-in-law, Edie Tyner of Shawnee; nine grandchildren, Jeff Crossley, Leah Donnahoe, Tamara Gillespie, Jesse Crossley, Caroline Crossley, Cathleen Crossley, John Crossley, Stephanie Gardiner and Shannon Crossley; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel. LaRon Branson and Ron Johnson will officiate. Burial will be at the Tecumseh Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Patsy Lou Virgin

Former Purcell resident Patsy Lou Virgin of Tulsa died Thursday in Tulsa. She was 67.

Ms. Virgin was born June 30, 1933, in Henryetta to Ruby and Dowel Virgin.

She was a retail worker and lived 15 years in Purcell before moving to Tulsa.

Survivors include her son, Ron Lyon, Tulsa; daughter and son-in-law, Janet and William Weldon, Purcell; sister, Linda Neely, Ada; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Denice Haraway, brother, Lynn Virgin and two husbands, Robert Virgin and Jimmy Lyon.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Vamoosa Cemetery under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home, Konawa.

Elmer Orian Freeze

Elmer Orian Freeze died Thursday in his home. He was 77.

He was born in Coffee County, Tenn., April 21, 1923. He was the son of George W. Freeze and John and Annie McBroom.

Mr. Freeze retired from Marathon Oil Company where he was employed as a lab technician for 41 years.

He had lived in Santa Fe, Texas, from 1961 to 1990 and had lived in Oklahoma for eight years. He recently relocated back to Santa Fe, Texas.

Mr. Freeze was in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the OCAW Local No. 4449 and the American Legion Post 260 in Tecumseh. He was second commander at the American Legion Post.

Preceding him in death were his wife Claribell Ruth Freeze; parents; brother, Edgar Freeze; sisters and brothers-in-law, Grace and Fred Hill and Louise and Junior Austin; and brother-in-law, Nick Hayes.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Gary W. and Carol Joanne Freeze of Santa Fe, Texas, and Terry W. and Theresa Freeze of Woodbridge, Va.; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbra J. Goodwin, Donna J. and Steve Gassaway, Shirley J. and Billy Patton and Reva J. and Tony Vail, all of Santa Fe, Texas; sisters and brother-in-law, Cumi and Bill Kirkman of Mesa, Ariz., and Imo Jean Hayes of Bombay, Calif.; 31 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Hayes Funeral Home in Sante Fe, Texas. Pastor Alan Splawn will officiate. Burial will follow at Grace Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors under the direction of VFW Post 6378. under the director of Hayes Funeral Home, Santa Fe, Texas.
