Charles Strader

Charles Strader Jr., 76, died Feb. 20, 2006 at the Stillwater Medical Center, Stillwater. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006 at the Church of God, in Yale. Interment will follow at the Lawson Cemetery, Yale, Okla.

Services have been entrusted to the Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing.

Charles was born on April 20, 1929 in Norfolk, Okla. to Charles Paul and Oma Golda (Clemons) Strader, Sr. He was baptized as an infant at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Charles was re-baptized at the First Baptist Church in Yale in 1970. Charles married Alice Marie Broyles on March 15, 1952 at the First Baptist Church in Yale.

He worked for the Dannon Elavator for a couple of years. Charles started working temporarily with the City of Yale. He was hired full time and later became Fire Chief for the City of Yale for 17 years having served the city for 33 years. Charles was commander of the American Legion. He was a past Boy Scout leader. Charles played Santa Claus for a number of years. He was also a clown in many parades. Charles enjoyed Gospel and Blue Grass Music. He loved and was very proud of his grandchildren.

Charles is survived by his wife of 53 years, Alice Strader of the home; son, Michael Strader and wife Terri of Yale; daughter, Melissa Kennedy and husband Mike of Stillwater; brother, Robert Lee Strader and wife Beverly of Cushing; sister, Iris Mitchell and husband Mark of Shidler; sister-in-law, Kathryn Strader Doll of Yale; Uncle, Bill Clemons and wife Mary of Ponca City; Marvin Clemons of Phoenix; three grandchildren, Charles Terrence Kennedy, Ashley Marie Kennedy and Adam Michael Strader.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, sister, Rose Marie Haraughty, brothers, Thomas Strader and Sandy Strader.

Barbara Jean Martin Cummings

Barbara Jean Martin Cummings, longtime Cushing resident, passed away early Tuesday morning, Feb. 21, 2006 at her residence at the age of 72 years.

The daughter of the late Kenneth Camblin and Edith Beard Camblin, Barbara was born on Oct. 17, 1933 in Oilton, Okla. and was reared and educated in Oilton, graduating from Oilton High School.

She was united in marriage to John R. Martin on June 30, 1951 in Oilton and to this union, two sons, Kenny and Gary were born. The couple came to Cushing in 1955, where they owned and operated the Martin Tank Truck and Casing Pulling Company until February of 1989. John preceded her in death on June 12, 1989.

She was united in marriage to Tom Cummings on July 28, 1994 in Eureka Springs, Ark.

Barbara was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church and for several years taught Sunday School Class; she had served as Den Mother for the Boy Scouts; had served on various committees of the Youth Center; had volunteered with the Hospital Mobile Meals; was a member of the Hypatia Club; she loved china painting, traveling and photography.

Survivors include her husband, Tom Cummings of the home; two sons, Kenny Martin and his wife Kama, Gary Martin and his wife Carmen of Cushing; step-children, Steven Cummings and Chad Cummings and his wife Kim of Kellyville, and Mandy Franks and her husband Jim of Bartlesville; grandchildren, Camblin Martin, Clinton Martin, Christal Martin, Eric Martin, Ashlee Martin and Rachel Martin; step-grandchildren, Malachi Cummings, Skylar Cummings, Marlon Cummings, Kennedy Franks, Mckenzie Franks and Brook Franks and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006 at 2 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Ted Uhlig officiating.

Burial will follow in the Euchee Valley Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Judith Karman Hospice or to the First United Methodist Church in her memory.

Services are under the direction of the Davis Funeral Home.

Sheldon J. Anderson

Sheldon J. Anderson, long time Cushing resident, passed away on Monday, Feb. 20, 2006 at the Linwood Village Nursing Home at the age of 82 years of age after a long illness.

Sheldon was born in Parkland, Okla. to Oscar and Elsie Anderson July 9, 1923 and was the last remaining child of this couple's six children.

Sheldon had lived in Cushing since returning from serving in the army during WWII. His work in concrete and brick masonry was well respected by all who knew and worked with him over the years. He had a passion for gardening and for his prize winning pecans. He will be forever loved and deeply missed by family and friends.

He was a long time member of the First Church of God.

He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife Christine of almost 60 wonderful years; two devoted daughters, Joyce Anderson and her husband Tom Runnels of Orlando, Florida and Kathy Sanders and her husband Russ of Danville, California; one grandson, Brian Sanders of Stillwater; other relatives and friends.

Friends are invited to attend the service to remember this special man at the First Church of God, 501 N. Noble in Cushing on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006 at 10 a.m. with Reverend Kevin Clouse officiating.

Burial will follow in the Parkland Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of the Davis Funeral Home.

Laveda Evelyn Harlow

Laveda Evelyn Harlow 91, Miller, Mo., died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2006 at Cox South Hospital Springfield.

Laveda was born on June 3, 1914 in Ripley, Okla. to Lester and Mattie (Yates) Harris. She had lived in Miller for the last 35 years and was a clerk in a grocery store. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cushing, Okla.

She married Grover Harlow on Jan. 3, 1935 at Winfield, Kan. He preceded her in death along with her parents, three sisters and two brothers.

Survivors include one son William Gale Ficklin, Miller.

Graveside services are under the direction of Morris Leiman Mosher, Miller, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday Feb. 23, 2006 in Ripley Cemetery Ripley, Okla. with Rev. Larry Eslinger officiating.

Dillard F. Hudson

Dillard F. Hudson, longtime Yale resident, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006 at the age of 92 years.

The son of the late Hubert Hudson and Cora Harmon, Dillard was born on Nov. 28, 1913 in Trousdale, Okla. and was raised in Pottawatomie County.

He was united in marriage to Ada Williams on Oct. 30, 1935 in Watonga, Okla. The couple moved here in 1948 and had lived here since that time. Ada preceded him in death on Sept. 26, 1998. He was united in marriage to Laura Harris on Aug. 2, 1999 in Bristow, Okla.

Dillard was a member of the Council Valley Advent Christian Church and a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a licensed pilot for over 40 years and enjoyed flying airplanes and loved to parachute.

Survivors include his wife Laura of the home; two step-children, Eric Harris of Bartlesville and Rob Harris and his wife Lorie of Bolivar, Mo.; three step-grandchildren, Kellie Harris, Steven Harris and Caleb Harris; close neighbors, Fred and Eilene Eberhart; other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife Ada, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Austin Hudson, Curtis Hudson and Marlee Hudson and one step-son, Paul James Harris.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 24, 2006 at 2 p.m. in the Council Valley Baptist Church with Reverend Larry Lehr, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery.

James Thomas Phillips

James Thomas Phillips, 74, died Feb. 18, 2006. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 23 at the First Baptist Church, Davenport, Okla. Interment will follow in the Davenport Cemetery, Davenport, Okla. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Services, Stroud, Okla.

Grace Morlan

Grace Morlan, 94, passed away Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006 in Cushing.

Grace was born Dec. 2, 1911 in Clarksville, AR.

She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Tulsa for over 50 years. She graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1929.

Grace married Lowell V. Morlan on March 20, 1935 and they were married 67 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Lowell.

Grace is survived by her two sons Victor Lowell Morlan of Cushing and James Randolph Morlan of McKinney, Texas; seven grandchildren and twenty one great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006 at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Cushing. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Tulsa.

Roy Cook

Roy Ray Cook, longtime former Cushing resident, died Feb. 17, 2006 at Safe Harbor, VA. Medical Center in Birmingham, Ala. at the age of 73. Funeral services will be held in the Highland Park Freewill Baptist Church in Stillwater, Okla. Thursday at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Ben Lacy, Pastor, officiating.

Family will greet friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Strode Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Stillwater with the Strode Funeral Home in charge.

The son of Tom and Dee Cook, Roy was born Oct. 16, 1932 at Davenport, Okla. and was reared and educated in the Davenport area.

He was united in marriage to Phyllis parks and to this union five children were born, Mike, Bill, Edith, Gary and Rae Ann. Roy served in the United States Army from Oct. 1953 to Oct. 1955 where he earned the rank of SP3.

Roy retired from Pacific Coast Nursery in Sunnyside, Wash. in 1985. He was a member of the Conservative Baptist Church in Sunnyside, Wash. and then Park Place Baptist Church in Cushing.

He was preceded in death by a son, his parents and a brother.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Cook, two sons, Bill Cook of Buckley, Wash. and Gary Cook of Guthrie, Okla.; two daughters Edith Hysell of Weaver, Ala. And Rae Ann Cook of St. Louis, Mo.

Also surviving are two brothers, George, Midwest City, Okla. and Jack, of Edmond, Okla. Also two sisters, Daisy Harmon, Scurry, Texas and Sue Franklin, Kemp, Texas and five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Pallbearers will be James Meyers, James Beavers, Jerry Mills, Bill Williams, Kenny Odell, Lloyd Harris, Ricky Hadley and Kelly Cook.

A.J. Clawson

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Underwood Cemetery in Yale under the direction of Palmer and Marler Funeral Home of Oilton.

Clawson was born March 30, 1918, in Yale to Leland Leonard and Minnie (Bickle) Clawson. He grew up and attended school in Yale.

He worked as a pumper in the oilfield. He enjoyed his job working with his livestock, raising cattle, pigs, etc.

His family came first in his life. He loved teaching his grandchildren how to drive. He also enjoyed going on fishing trips.

Clawson was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Cushing.

He was predeceased by his parents, three brothers, three sisters, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Survivors include five sons and daughters-in-law, A.J. and Sharon Sue Clawson, Jack Edmond and Ann Clawson and Bill and Patty Lynn Clawson, all of Oilton, John and Roselee Clawson of Chewey and Leland Leonard and Clarrissa Clawson of Yale; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Patty Sue Turner, Mary Ann and Kenneth Deeds and Wilma Jean and Herman Jones, all of Oilton, Katheryne and Raymond Randolph of Mannford and Shirley Jones of Sand Springs; one brother, John Leonard Clawson of Texas; two sisters, Effie Mae Sparkman and Marvel Mosier, both of Texas; 35 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
