Velda M. Frost

Velda M. Frost, Shawnee, died Sunday in a local nursing home. She was 91.

Mrs. Frost was born on April 25, 1908, in Meeker, to Benjamin and Susie Hall.

She attended school in White Rock, and married Elmer B. Frost on Nov. 8, 1927.

She resided in Meeker for most of her life, but had lived in Shawnee for the past several years.

Mrs. Frost was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Frost on July 1, 1983; and a son, Billy Duane Frost, July 29. 1945; and her parents.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at New Hope Cemetery in Meeker with the Rev. Glen Walters officiating.

Services are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel in Shawnee.

Olen J. Reid

Olen J. Reid died Sunday at a Seminole hospital. He was 81.

He was born June 15, 1918, to Homer Reid and Thelma Boyd Reid. He moved from Arkansas with his family to the Weleetka area in the fall of 1929.

He was reared by his stepmother, Emma, after his mother's death. Reid spent most of his life working in oil fields and at farm labor, making his home primarily in the Weleetka and Okmulgee area.

In 1990, he moved to Hanna, Okla., and had resided in Earlsboro since 1993. He was a member of the Earlsboro Free Will Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, three infant brothers, two infant sisters, a half-sister, Opal Austin; two nieces and a brother-in-law, Orville Ennis.

Survivors include four brothers and sisters-in-law, Havner and Edna Reid of Earlsboro, Cecil and Mary Reid of Perkins, Henry and Joyce Reid of Norman and Fred and Wilma Reid of Cookson; eight sisters and brothers-in-law, Dortha and Freeman Chunn of Oklahoma City, Ruth and John Ford of Okemah, Bessie and Lee Ennis of Schulter; Jessie and R.B. Morris of Okmulgee, Margie Ennis of Kellyville, Emma and Paul Morris of Huntsville, Texas, Sue and Charles Upton of Kellyville and Ida of Plano, Texas; along with some 200 nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Weleetka with Rev. Havner Reid, Jr. and John Reid officiating. Burial will be in the Likowski Cemetery under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home of Weleetka.

William W. Strickland

William W. "Bill" Strickland of Shawnee died Saturday in Oklahoma City. He was 73.

He was born Feb. 27, 1927, in Macomb. He was the son of Adrian Floyd and Mattie (Webb) Strickland.

He graduated from Macomb High School. He was born and reared in Macomb, living in Tecumseh, St. Louis, Mo.; Kansas City, Kan.; El Paso, Texas; Borger, Texas, and El Reno before moving to Shawnee in 1980.

On April 8, 1995, he married Julie Hinds in El Reno. He was a sales representative for Meade's Bread Bakery and for the Keebler Cookie Corporation for more than 25 years, retiring in 1978.

Strickland served with the United States Army during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Adrian Floyd Strickland Jr., and an infant sister.

Survivors include his wife, Julie Hinds, of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Don Shelley of Mounds; Tonya and Gary Keith of Edmond; Levina and Phillip Gough of Chandler; son and daughter-in-law, William "Bill" and Barbara Strickland of Oklahoma City; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Jean Strickland of Butte, Mont.; uncle, William "Bill" Webb of Tecumseh; seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and numerous friends and other relatives.

Services are 2 p.m. today at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Mike DeMoss officiating. Burial will be at Brown Cemetery, under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Charles H. Douglas

Charles H. Douglas of Shawnee died Sunday at an Oklahoma City hospital. he was 74.

He was born Oct. 6, 1926, in Joplin, Mo., the son of Tom and Ida Douglas.

He graduated from Joplin, Mo., High School where he was a member of the National Honor Society. He graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University with a degree in elementary education with a music major.

Douglas was a self-employed building contractor. He was the director of music at the Meeker and Wellston First Baptist Churches and later at Wallace Avenue Baptist Church.

He was married to Dolores Ann Jackson and later to Edwina Simmons Lovelace on Aug. 4, 1988, in Shawnee. Douglas served as a fireman first class in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater in 1945 and 1946.

He was a member of the Rock Creek Baptist Church. He moved to Shawnee in 1955.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, John Beverly, James Oren, Harry Thomas and George Pleasant Douglas; and two sisters, Rebecca Ann Douglas and Lillie Loyce Broam.

Survivors include his wife, Edwina Douglas, of the home; daughter and son-in-law and their children, Melanie and Glen Hunter, Kyle and Trace, of Conroe, Texas; step-children, Phillip Lovelace, Stillwater, and Ginger Lovelace, Shawnee; two step-granddaughters, Raina and Autumn Lovelace, Shawnee; sister, Katy May Walker, Joplin, Mo.; brother, Virgil Louis Douglas, Joplin, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are 10 a.m. today at Rock Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. R. Reed Lynn and the Rev. John Collier officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. at Alex Cemetery, Alex, under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Memorials may be made to Rock Creek Baptist Church Building Fund.

Javon Lee Johnson

Javon Lee Johnson died Sunday in Midwest City.

He was the infant son of Sandy Peters and John Jermaine Johnson of Midwest City.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, John W. Morrell; brother, Anthony Lee Morrell; and his great-grandparents, Reece and Lillian Morrell and Donald and Zanabelle Smith.

Survivors include his parents, Sandy Peters and John Jermaine Johnson, Midwest City; grandparents, Loretta and Bobby Murphy of Shawnee; Stacie E. Wright of Midwest City; John E. Johnson Jr. of Wichita, Kan.; great-grandparent, John Murphy of Shawnee; aunts and uncles, John and Elizabeth Richardson of Alaska; John Morrell of Tulsa; Reece and Jessica Morrell of Ardmore; Lillian and Edward Shepherd of Louisiana; David Tyree Jr. of Midwest City; Trindis Johnson of Topeka, Kan.; and a number of great-aunts, great-uncles and cousins.

Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Lowetta Lee Head

Lowetta Lee Head died Sunday. She was 72.

She was born Jan. 10, 1929, in Wanette the youngest of 11 children, to William A. and Georgia W. McGehee. She was a member of the Lakeview Church of Christ, Shawnee.

She grew up in Oklahoma City, attending Capitol Hill High School and Capitol Hill Church of Christ. She worked many years, starting at age 16 and ending her career with Southwestern Bell in 1989.

She and her husband of 40 years moved to Bethel Acres in 1972.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, James C. Landis; three brothers, Wesley, Milford and Paul McGehee; five sisters, Rosa Gaylen, Gladys Seader, Jewel Willis, Eva Bow, Bonnetta Miller; and one son, Kenneth Keith Head.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Lee Head; her sons, Donald T. Landis and wife, Kay; Richard L. Landis and wife, Dale Ann; daughter, Diana R. Cramer and husband, Dana; grandchildren, Robert L. Landis, Shawn R. Sparks, Kadriye A. Coleman, James C. Landis, John W. Landis, Cody W. Cramer and Shelby N. Cramer; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Agnes Schumacher; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services are 2 p.m. today at the South Colonial Chapel under the direction of Vondel L. Smith and Son Mortuary.

J R Edney

J R Edney died Friday in Tulsa. He was 72.

He was born Aug. 3, 1928, in Seminole to Noel Newton and Lela Fern (Irish) Edney. On Dec. 31, 1948, he married Mildred R. Floyd in Ada.

When he was a young man, he lived in Okmulgee. He served in the United States Navy as a SeaBee during World War II and later during the Korean Conflict. He spent three years in Hawaii during this time and later moved to Kansas City, where he spent 17 years working as a printing pressman.

A year later, he moved to Shawnee, where he worked again as a pressman.

Edney then became interested in property management and real estate and was active in both at Yukon and Fayetteville, Ark., before retiring in 1996 and moving to Glenpool to be near his family. Edney was a member of the Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Wayne and Junior Edney, and one sister, Wanda McKee.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred R. (Floyd) Edney; two daughters, Patricia and husband Robert Clay of Bixby, and Janine and husband Victor Mendoza of Bixby; one son, Jerry Robert and wife Jeanie Edney of Olathe, Kan.; two sisters, Violet Jones of San Diego, Calif., and Pauline Cook of Midwest City; nine grandchildren, Chris Clay, Tara Adams, Mindy Edney, Marcie Clay, Emily Edney, Jared Edney, Jordan Edney, Alyssa Mendoza and Jessica Mendoza; one great-grandson and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services are 11 a.m. today at Riverside Baptist Church, Bixby, with Pastor Phil Sallee officiating. Burial will be at Bixby Cemetery under the direction of Leonard and Marker Funeral Home of Bixby.

Harold Blaine Dickerson

Harold Blaine "H.B." Dickerson, former Saint Louis resident, died Friday. He was 53.

He was born Sept. 20, 1947, to Amye and Harold Dickerson of Saint Louis. He was a retired senior probation and parole officer for the state of Oklahoma.

Dickerson graduated in 1965 from Saint Louis High School. He received his degree from East Central State University in Ada and his master's degree from Oklahoma State University.

He is retired from the United States Army Reserves and spent active duty time in the Gulf War, where he earned a Bronze Star. He was a member of the F.O.P. Lodge 123 in Oklahoma City.

Survivors include his wife, Karen, of the home; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Dickerson, Saint Louis; one sister and niece, Debbie and Lynnsey Thompson of Oklahoma City.

Services are 10 a.m. today at the South Colonial Chapel of Vondel Smith Mortuary, Oklahoma City. Burial will be at Green Hill Memorial Gardens in Sapulpa.

Services are under the direction of Vondel Smith Mortuary, south Oklahoma City location.

Anita Eisenstein

Anita Eisenstein of Del Ray Beach, Fla., died Sunday in Oklahoma City. She was 81.

She was born May 18, 1919, in New York City. She was the daughter of Joseph and Bessie (Neiman) Temares.

She was reared in New York and lived there for many years. In the early 1970s she and her husband moved to Florida.

In November 1945, she married Melton F. Eisenstein in New York. Her husband preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 1988.

Mrs. Eisenstein started out as a fashion buyer and later worked as a bookkeeper.

She was also preceded in death by her brother, Max Temares.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Tobi and Ron Fried of Shawnee; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Eisenstein and Carol Cadogan of Sudbury, Mass.; six grandchildren; and one sister and brother-in-law, Frieda and Walter Shore of Lake Worth, Fla.

Services will be Thursday at Levitt-Weinstein Memorial Chapel, West Palm Beach, Fla. Burial will be at Eternal Light Memorial Gardens, Boynton Beach, Fla.

Ted Sloan

Ted "Zeke" Sloan of Norman died Sunday in Norman. He was 61.

He was born June 16, 1939, in Cleveland County, the son of Frank and Agnes (Sloat) Sloan.

He attended grade school in Cleveland County, then attended Pawnee Indian School and graduated from Haskell Institute in Lawrence, Kan.

Sloan was a veteran of Vietnam, where he served in the United States Army. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 88 in Norman and the Absentee Shawnee Elders.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Helen L. Martell, Lillie Sloan Ellis and Lillian Sloan, Little Axe; and one brother, Tom Sloan.

Survivors include four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Virgie Longhorn of Shawnee; Esteline and Don Schulenberg of Norman; Marjorie Kaniatobe of Newalla; Jenifer Sloan and Tim Martell of Tecumseh; two brothers and one sister-in-law, James B. and Rosetta Sloan and Wendell Sloan of Norman; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services are 9 a.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jackson Shoemaker officiating. Burial will be at Absentee Shawnee Tribal Cemetery, Little Axe, under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
