Bobby Eugene Reid

Bobby Eugene Reid, formerly of Shawnee, died Sunday. He was 69.

He was born May 8, 1931, in Shawnee to Luther Weldon and Nellie Mae (Curtis) Reid. He was reared in the Gerty area and attended Gerty Schools.

He was retired as safety inspector for the Coal Mining Safety Administration. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was active in his community.

Reid served in the Sooner State Round-up Club of Calvin, the Gerty Alumni Association, the VFW, the Calvin Round-up Club and the Ada area Round-up club. He was a member of the Allen First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Thelma and Shirley Reid.

Surviving are his daughters, Paula Reid Cartmell and husband Mitchell of Cedar Hill, Texas; Gina Reid Bishop and husband Troy of Wynnewood; grandchildren, Reid Mitchell Cartmell and Rachel Mae Cartmell, both of Cedar Hill, Texas, Haden Lane Miller, Logan Brianne Miller, Landee Rae Bishop and Bobby Olivia Bishop, all of Wynnewood; and many other friends and relatives.

Services are 3 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Allen with the Rev. Buddy Johnson and the Rev. Kirt Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Gerty Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home of Holdenville.

Harvey Wapskineh

Harvey Wapskineh died Saturday in Muskogee. He was 75.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at J.J. Methvin Methodist Church, Anadarko, under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Anadarko.

Aleta Hill

Shawnee resident Aleta Hill died Wednesday in Oklahoma City. She was 66.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Liberty Baptist Church with Bill Matthews and Phil Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Mrs. Hill was born April 3, 1932, in Ada to James C. and Mary A. Estes. She married Chuck Hill on Nov. 3, 1974, at the Liberty Baptist Church in Shawnee.

She retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Chuck Hill, of the home; son, Chuck Hill II and his wife Donna, Anaheim, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Tom Autry, Choctaw; five grandchildren, Betsy Autry, Tommy Autry, Chuck Hill III, Jonathan Hill, Samantha Hill; and one great-grandchild, Brooks Autry.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary A. Estes and James C. Estes; and one brother, Ausbon K. Estes.

Memorial donations may be made to the Oklahoma Lupus Association or a favorite charity.

John A. Going

John A. Going, 68, Shawnee, died Saturday in a local hospital.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m. today at First Indian Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Hawkins officiating. Burial will be at Cornell Cemetery of Holdenville under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

John A. Going was born March 24, 1930, in Tom, Okla., the son of Rayson Gibson Going and Lucy Thompson Going. He graduated from Chilocco Indian School in 1955 and received an associate degree from Okmulgee Tech in 1957.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Chosan Reservoir in Korea. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Going was married to Loretta Jim in Oklahoma City on Feb. 26, 1955, and they had lived in Shawnee for 17 years. He worked as a body and fender repairman and was retired from Tinker Air Force Base.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and of First Indian Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, John A. Going Jr., and one daughter, Lucy McCulley.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta Going, of the home; two sons, Jimmy Ray Going, Norman; Ronald Going, of the home; two grandsons, Frank McCulley, Shawnee; Jonathan Going, of the home; brothers, Josiah Going, Lane; Rayson G. Going Jr., Broken Bow; sisters and brothers-in-law, Samantha and Dess Neal, Talihina; Frances Jean and Clyde Neil, Tom; Ruby Stotts, Mabel McGuire, both of Oklahoma City; Virginia Williams, Guthrie, and many other relatives.

Clarence Duncan

Clarence Duncan, Prague, died Thursday. He was 85.

He was born Aug. 17, 1913, in Sparks, the son of William Cullen and Beulah (Stelle) Duncan. He was retired from Macklandburg Duncan, where he worked as a leadman.

He was a member of the View of The Cross Freewill Baptist Church in Prague and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He married Philena Russell on Feb. 12, 1947, in Stroud.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister.

Survivors include Philena Duncan, of the home; one son, Roscoe Duncan of Shawnee; 1 daughter, Lisa Hibdon, of Sand Springs; three brothers, Don Duncan, Tulsa; Bob Duncan of Paden; and Wayne Duncan of Okla. City.; four sisters, Martina Alexander of Stoud; Geneva Hyatt of Garland, Texas; Pearl Hamblin and Meryl Janota, both of Oklahoma City; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Prague. Burial will be at Prague Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague.

Wanda Nemata Beasler

Wanda Nemata Beasler died Wednesday at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was 84.

She was born Nov. 14, 1914, the daughter of Charles August and Harriet Ann "Hattie" (Bruce) Beasler.

She grew up on a farm southeast of Wellston. She and her sister took piano lessons from the late Orpha Berry.

The family moved to Chandler, where she graduated from high school in 1934. She then took music lessons from the late R.B. Condry, and, in her adult years, she attended LeRoy Abernathy School of Music in Texas.

She was a piano teacher and a homemaker. She also served on the Lincoln County Election Board.

She was a charter member of the Friends Church in Chandler. She was the church pianist for several years. She and her sister Verona sang in a quartet with Gertrude Cargill and Opal Sorrels at revivals and conventions.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a younger brother, a sister-in-law, and a brother-in-law.

Survivors include a brother, Louis E. Beasler, Wellston; one sister, Verona Sprague, Oklahoma City; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday in the Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Chandler with the Rev. Bruce Newby and Rev. Doyle Seeley officiating. Burial is at Rossville Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Chandler.

Juanita Hopkins Knight

Juanita Hopkins Knight of Shawnee died Thursday. She was 75.

She was born March 3, 1924, in Maud. She was the daughter of Andrew Jackson and Willie Mae Silas Gibson.

She graduated from Maud High School in 1942. Mrs. Knight was a retired real estate saleswoman.

She married James Murray Hopkins on May 21, 1944, and John T. Knight Aug. 5, 1989. Mrs. Knight was a member of the Liberty Missionary Baptist Church and Elks Club Ladies Golf Group.

She was preceded in death by her father, Andy Gibson; first husband, James Murray "Mutt" Hopkins in 1984; two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include her mother, Willie Mae Gibson of Shawnee; husband, J.T. Knight of the home; daughter, Sharon Hopkins of Oklahoma City; son, Ron and Karen Hopkins of Shawnee; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Lorene and Richard Bourbonnais of Shawnee; Jeanette Greer of Shawnee; Shirley and Johnny Kneisel of Shawnee; Jeri McEntire of Shawnee; one brother Bob and Verle Gibson, Shawnee; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Liberty Baptist Church with Bill Matthews, Phil Thompson and Larry Goins officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park, under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Memorials may be made to the Scleroderma Foundation, 500 N. Broadway Ste. 200 Oklahoma City, Okla. 73102.

Mary Aveline Collins

Mary Aveline Collins died Thursday. She was 88.

She was born July 6, 1911, in Vilonia, Ark. She was the daughter of Jessie and Alma (Frazier) Tucker.

She was a longtime resident of Chandler. She married Arthur B. Collins on Sept. 22, 1931, in Arkansas and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Collins attended the Free Will Baptist Church.

Her parents, husband, one son, two brothers, one sister and three grandsons have preceded her in death.

Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Freda and Marion Balcs of Davenport; Pat and Fletcher Brewer of Chandler; Dee and Sven Soderstrom of Chandler; Fern and Leonard Williams of Chandler; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Joan Collins of Indianapolis, Ind.; Tom and Rose Collins of Janesville, Wis.; one brother, Aubrey Tucker of California; five sisters, Genie Hammons of Arkansas; Nellie Ramsey of Arkansas; Alice Beard of Arkansas; Aretha Jenkin of Arkansas; Eddith Ridout of Tennessee; daughter-in-law, Nataline Collins of Chandler; 21 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Star Valley Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at the Star Valley Cemetery, Chandler, under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Chandler.

Anna Maurine Hale

Anna Maurine Hale of Shawnee died Friday at a local nursing home. She was 79.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Johnson Cemetery with Rev. Steve Brown officiating under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel. Other information will be announced.

Delbert Dike

Delbert Dike died Wednesday at his home in North Richland Hills, Texas. He was 86.

He was born April 29, 1913, in Wanette.

Dike was raised in Wanette and spent much of his adult life in the Bay Area of California.

He was a pipe fitter for the oil industry and retired from Standard Oil of California. He returned to Oklahoma after retiring.

He was instrumental in the creation of the "Wanette-Trousdale Area Veterans who served their country" memorial.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Thrillkill Dike; son, Rondy Dike; daughter, Jan Baker; brother, Thurman Dike; grandchildren, Peggy Cushman, Tamara Nagel, Jana Simpson, Greg Nagel, Oydis Dike, Jennifer Dike and Ren Dike; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Wanette Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Bill Matthews of Liberty Baptist Church in Shawnee officiating under the direction of Shannon Rufe Snow Drive Funeral Chapel, Fort Worth, Texas.

Billie L. Brown

Billie L. Brown, 58, Shawnee, died Friday at a local hospital.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Memorial Park with Rev. Hubert Gilbert under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home. Other services are pending.

Mary Ellen Lazenby

Longtime Shawnee teacher Mary Ellen Lazenby died Tuesday in a local hospital. The Shawnee resident was 89.

She was born in Fluvanna, Texas, on April 29, 1911. The daughter of Balous Claude Morgan and Stella Elizabeth Petty graduated from an Amarillo, Texas, high school in 1928.

In 1934, she received her bachelor of science degree from West Texas Teachers' College, which is now West Texas State University, in Canyon, Texas. She completed additional graduate work at the University of Oklahoma.

Mrs. Lazenby began her teaching career in 1931 in Happy, Texas. In 1933, she returned to West Texas State to complete her bachelor of science degree. From 1934 to 1936, she taught in Farwell, Texas, and, in 1936-37, she taught in Amarillo, Texas.

She served as a home economics teacher from 1939 to 1941 at the National Youth Administration in Shawnee. Mrs. Lazenby was a science and home economics teacher at Shawnee Junior High School from 1943 to 1965.

She was a home economics teacher for Shawnee High School from 1965 to 1971. She also taught tailoring courses for adults in the community.

On June 2, 1937, she married Bill Lazenby in Amarillo, Texas.

She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church and served as an elder and Sunday school teacher. She had served as president of the Oklahoma Presbytery Women of the Church. In 1979, she was selected to be a part of a delegation from the United States Presbyterian Church to visit the South African General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church.

Following her retirement from teaching, the Lazenbys served as directors of Faith 7 School until 1982. She had been a resident of Shawnee since 1937 and had served as a leader for Camp Fire Girls.

Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, one brother and two sisters.

Survivors include daughters, Mary Elizabeth Spaulding of Shawnee and Virginia Pierce of St. Cloud, Minn.; grandchildren, Sheryl Gowin and Valerie Kilmer, both of Shawnee; Laura Pierce of Beijing, China, and John Pierce of San Antonio, Texas; two great-grandchildren and many other relatives.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Bob Scrutchins and Dr. Max Shumake will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Dwight Mission in care of United Presbyterian Church, 330 N. Beard, Shawnee OK 74801.
