Reta Magal McLain

Reta Magal McLain died Friday near Wellston. She was 77.

She was born Sept. 10, 1922, near Wellston.

She was the daughter of Robert and Leta (Ralstin) Johnson. McLain was a life member of the Wellston Assembly of God and a member of the Eastern Star.

She married Bruce McLain on June 22, 1940, in Wellston.

He preceded her in death on April 25, 1989. Also preceding her in death were her parents and one sister, Anna.

Survivors include three brothers, Phillip W. Johnson, of Corpus Christi, Texas; Raymond F. Johnson of Oceanside, Calif.; Robert C. Johnson of Richardson, Texas; four sisters, Bonita Mackey of Wellston, Rebecca Megehee of Mustang, Peggy Porter of Lawrence, Kan., and Mollie Sivley of Amarillo, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the First Assembly of God Church, Wellston, with the Rev. Dewayne Settle officiating. Burial will be at the Wellston Cemetery in Wellston, under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Chandler.

May Day Nichols

Shawnee resident May Day Nichols died Friday in Shawnee. She was 96.

She was born May 29, 1903, in Tecumseh to Thomas Jasper Day and Nellie May Owens.

She was raised on the family farm southeast of Tecumseh and lived in Shawnee since 1962. She worked as a nurse in Colorado, Washington and Alaska. She was a member of the First Indian Baptist Church.

Survivors include her brother, Houston Day, Los Alamos, N.M.; sister, Dee Drain, Tulsa; and a number of nieces and nephews, including Jim Day and Keith Mabry.

She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her brothers and sisters, Ina Cash, Eddy Fain, Harvey "Gawk" Day, Tillis "Babe" Day and Butler Day.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. James Anderson and the Rev. Gary Hawkins officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Eva C. Doody

Shawnee resident Eva C. Doody died Tuesday in a local nursing home. She was 105.

Mrs. Doody was born on April 3, 1894, in Henry, Ill., to John and Mary (Schmitt) Horbach.

She married John "Lee" Doody on Oct. 8, 1918.

She was a member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church, and the St. Benedict's Altar Society.

Mrs. Doody moved to Shawnee in 1906.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Doody; her parents, John and Mary Horbach; two sisters, Anne Horbach and Cora Thorn; two brothers, Louis and Julius Horbach; and two nephews, Harry Thorn and Richard Horbach.

Survivors include four nephews and their spouses, Jerome and Beverly Horbach, Concord, Calif.; Ted and Carol Horbach, Apple Valley, Calif.; John and Joyce Thorn, Houston, Texas; Bill and Marcia Thorn, Houston, Texas; two nieces and their spouses, Judith and Mike O'Conner, Shawnee; Marilyn and Ted Alexander, Burbank, Calif.; and many other relatives, including Betty Thorn Smith, Hot Springs Village, Ark.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Shawnee with the Rev. Maurus Jaeb, O.S.B., officiating.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel of Shawnee.

Wanda Stalik

Wanda Stalik, Porum Landing, died Tuesday. She was 72.

She was born April 7, 1927, in Shawnee, the daughter of Pete and Hazel (Frazier) Pierson.

She was preceded in death by Stach Stalik and Kenneth Miller.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Kay Miller, Placintas, N.M.; four daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and David Miranda, Cookson; Mona and Richard Wallace, Porum Landing; Rose and Tim Griffey, Columbia, Md.; Debbie and Michael Selling, Mustang; a brother, Jim Pierson, Harrah; two sisters, Edna Thacker, Missouri; Evelyn Roland, California; an aunt, Hattie Hames, Meeker; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Asa Smith Funeral Chapel in Harrah. Burial will be in Memory Lane Cemetery in Harrah, under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service.

Wilfred Preston

Wilfred Preston of Oklahoma City died Monday. He was 79.

He was born Aug. 4, 1920, in Orleans County, N.Y., to Milton and Grace (Snell) Preston.

Preston was a machinist most of his life.

His parents and brother Ronald preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys; one son, Orville Preston and wife Alice of Eagle Harbor, N.Y.; three daughters, Meriel Henson and husband Johnny of John's Island, S.C.; Holly Gayton and husband Wayne of Albuquerque, N.M.; Heather Preston of Oklahoma City; one sister, Jean Miller and husband Ralph of Lockport, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends.

Private family services will be held today. Arrangements directed by Asa Smith Funeral Service.

Charles Donald Forrester

Charles Donald "Don" Forrester of Shawnee died Monday. He was 63. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Dean Lynn Wenner

Dean Lynn Wenner of Seminole died Tuesday at a local hospital. He was 56.

He was born March 12, 1943, in Norman. He was the son of Fred Mancil Wenner and Jessie Pauline (Guntharp) Wenner.

He served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1964-1970. He graduated from Central State, Edmond, with a degree in business administration.

He married Verna Mae Dodd on Nov. 28, 1975, in Sand Springs.

Wenner worked at Mobil Chemical in Shawnee for the past nine years. He had worked for Dowell in Seminole for 13 years prior to Mobil.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Verna M. Wenner of the home; two brothers, Dale Wenner of Norman; Fred Wenner of Tulsa; one sister, Faye Wenner of Dayton, Ohio.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole.

Hal Lusk

Hal Lusk of Savanna, Okla., died Tuesday in McAlester. He was 83.

He was born May 31, 1916, in Dewey to Bert and Ruby Gustafson Lusk. He grew up and attended schools in Dewey and graduated from Dewey High School,

Lusk served in the U.S. Army in the Signal Corps during World War II. He married Billie Jackson on July 3, 1942, in Shawnee.

He later attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated with a degree in pharmacy. He worked at the Veterans Hospital in Bonham, Texas, and also hospitals in Des Moines, Iowa; Lubbock, Texas; Los Animos, Colo., and retired from the Veterans Hospital in Talihina.

He had lived in Savanna since 1978. Lusk was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1098 of McAlester, the Masonic Lodge of Shawnee and the Frink Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and aunt, Florene Paul.

Survivors include his wife, Billie Lusk of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Cliff Mangrum of Savanna; two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Vicki Lusk of Oklahoma City; Chad and Julie Lusk of Krebs; great-grandchildren, Colby Lusk of Krebs; Gabe Lusk of Krebs.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Frink Baptist Church with Rev. James Collins officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service.

Kristal Dawn Carr

Lifelong Seminole resident Kristal Dawn Carr died Saturday in Oklahoma City. She was 29.

She was born Nov. 22, 1970, in Ada to Randy Heard and Vausy (Coots) Cumpton.

She attended Bowlegs Schools and was affiliated with the First Assembly of God of Bowlegs. Until recently, she worked at Pioneer Nursing Home.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Dianna in 1976.

Survivors include her parents, Randy Heard, Maud, and Vausy (Coots) Cumpton, Bowlegs; sons, Kody Stewart and Kaden White, both of the home; daughter, Kaylyn Lehman, of the home; brothers, John Carr and Daniel Carr, Seminole; sisters, Terri Carr and Lacy Cumpton, Seminole, and Amy Moore, Konawa; adoptive father, Gary Carr, Cartwright, Okla.; maternal grandmother, Helen Coots, Bowlegs; paternal grandparents, Billy and Melva Heard, Konawa; and adoptive grandparents, Bill and "Honey" Carr, Cartwright, Okla.

Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Little Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Gillum officiating under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Bob Chambers

Harrah resident Bob Chambers died Saturday. He was 69.

He was born July 18, 1930, in Carnegie, Okla., to Marshall and Bessie (Conger) Chambers.

Surviving are his wife, Savola, of the home; two sons, Freddie Chambers of Moore and Calvin Chambers of Muskogee; three daughters, Frances Musgrave of Oklahoma City; Marsha Curtis of Checotah; and Darlene Browning of Missouri; one brother, Don Chambers of Harrah; sister Mary Keen of Choctaw; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at Henney Road Missionary Baptist Church in Nicoma Park. Burial will follow at Lackey Cemetery in Hitchita, Okla., under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service.

Lewis Harjo

Lewis Harjo of Konawa died Saturday. He was 79.

He was born May 23, 1920, in Konawa to Mary and Charlie W. Harjo.

Harjo worked as a maintenance man, living most of his life in the Konawa area.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Lula K. and Wallace Avans of Palo Verde, Calif.; companion Rose Anderson of Oklahoma City; brother Antler Harjo of Konawa; three sisters, Juanita Jefferson of Oklahoma City, Sara Quigg of Konawa and Betty Morris of Bixby; two stepbrothers, Jess Ellis of Shawnee and Fred Boatman of Maud; five grandchildren, Allace Avans, Delphine Avans, Gerald Avans, Gregg Avans and Marcella Avans; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at High Springs Indian Church with the Rev. Dion Francis officiating. Burial will follow at High Spring Cemetery under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home of Konawa.

Howard Ray Morris

Howard Ray Morris died Sunday in Stroud. He was 74.

He was born Dec. 27, 1925, in Milfay. He was the son of James Alfred and Roxie Jane (Denny) Morris.

Morris married Sybil Thompson Nov. 22, 1967, in Oklahoma City.

He was a resident of the Stroud and Milfay areas all his life and worked in dridge and pipeline construction for 45 years.

He also served in the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Survivors include his wife, Sybil, of the home; son, Philip Morris, Nashville, Tenn.; brother, Jewell Morris, Stroud; sisters, Nell Dorsey, Stroud, and Elsie Paton, Broken Arrow; two grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Parks Brothers Chapel in Stroud with the Rev. Burl Mackey officiating. Burial will be in Davenport Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Stroud.
