Norman L. "Spud" Miller

Norman L. "Spud" Miller, 86, of Yale died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006 at his residence in Yale. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006 at the Lawson Cemetery, Yale. Father Paul Amaliri will preside.

Funeral services are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Yale.

Norman was born June 3, 1919 in Chewelah, Wash., to Herman and Clara C. (Baeder) Miller. He graduated from Chewelah High School. Norman was a veteran of World War II serving his country in the U.S. Navy.

He married Bonnie Lain Thompson on May 28, 1945 in Winslow, Ariz. They lived in Spokane, Wash., for a number of years.

Norman was a contractor/carpenter for many years, building many well constructed homes. They moved to Yale in 1963. He was a member of the St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Cushing. Norman was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing and carpentry.

Norman is survived by his wife of 61 years, Bonnie Miller of the home, sons Gayle Standefer and wife Joan of Yale, David Miller and Lyle Miller both of St. Mary's, Idaho, brother: Ike Miller and wife Grace of Spokane, three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his three brothers.

Funeral services are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Yale.

Anna Marie Skinner

Anna Marie Skinner, infant daughter of Bradley and Jeanette Skinner, passed from this life on Friday, Feb. 24, 2006 at the Cushing Regional Hospital. Graveside services were held on Monday, Feb. 27, 2006 at the Lawson Cemetery. Mr. Kyle Wright officiated.

Services were under the direction of Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Yale.

Anna Marie is survived by her parents, Bradley Scott and Jeannette Lynn (Bloyer) Skinner; brother, Jacob Nathaniel Skinner; sister Sylvia Lynn Skinner; maternal grandparents, Richard and Kay Bloyer of Odebolt, IA; paternal grandparents, Larry and Kris Skinner of Yale; maternal great grandparents, Reinard and Sylvia Janssen of Elizabeth, CO., Joan Bloyer of Arthur, IA and Isabelle Laddusaw of Remsen, IA; paternal great grandparents, Lester Skinner of Maramec, Okla. and Mary Sue Sutton of Topeka, KS.; paternal great great grandmother, Sylvia Perkins of Yale; aunts and uncles, Stacey and Chris Williamson, Kimberly Harris, LeAnn and Mike Guntren, Paul and Tasha Bloyer, Julie Bloyer, Kevin Bloyer, Elizabeth Bloyer and Christine Bloyer; cousins, Shontana, Sierra, Madison Paige, Paden, Sophia, Taylor and Austin.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother Cathy Lynn Bloyer, paternal great grandmother Rose Shepherd, paternal great grandfathers Ted Sutton and Oliver "Buck" Ringgold, maternal great grandfathers Everett Bloyer and William Langel, and cousin, Noah Wilhelm.

Lottie Bell Brown

Lottie Bell Brown, 93, Oilton, died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, in Alma Health Care Center in Alma, Ark.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Highland Cemetery in Oilton under the direction of Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Oilton.

Brown was born Oct. 9, 1912, in Drumright to Bill and Bell (Angel) Clark. Her mother died during childbirth, and she was raised by Minnie and Morris Carpenter. She grew up in Drumright and attended Olive school and later Drumright High School.

She married Thomas F. Brown. He was in the oilfield business, so they lived in many areas. From 1947 through 1975, she lived in Ellinwood, Kan., where she was a member of the Eastern Star. They moved to Oilton in 1977 after retirement.

She loved to fish, camp and travel.

She was predeceased by her husband.

Survivors include her only son, Bill Brown of Alma, Ark.; her only granddaughter, Joni R. Brown of Grand Prairie, Texas; and her only great-granddaughter, Marissa Gomez.

Elmer J. Davis

Graveside services for Elmer J. Davis, 43, of Cushing are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at the Euchee Valley Cemetery with Pastor Stephen Orton officiating. Services are entrusted to Palmer-Marler Funeral Home, Cushing.

Davis was born Sept. 18, 1962 to Elmer F. and Dorotha Ann (Collins) Davis in Fresno, Calif., and passed from this life Feb. 25, 2006 in Cushing.

He grew up and attended school in Kerman, Calif. He attended the Hope Fellowship Church in Cushing. His hobbies included collecting teddy bears, and little trinkets. Elmer lived life to the very fullest.

He is survived by: one daughter, Crystal Silva of California; and one sister, June DeShields of Cushing.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; one sister, Anita; and two brothers, Dwain and Billy.

Terry Eugene Rodgers

Terry Eugene Rodgers, 53, of Cushing, died Monday, Feb. 27, 2006 at the Cushing Regional Hospital. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday March 2, 2006 at the Flynn Cemetery. Brother Jerry Pruitt and Brother Donnie Molloy will preside.

Arrangements are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing.

Terry was born on July 4, 1952 in Cushing to Russell and Fern (O’Bryant) Rodgers. He married Pam Nugent on June 25, 1983 in Hearne, Texas. Terry worked on oilfield equipment. He was a member of the Church of the First born. Terry enjoyed playing cards, fishing and traveling. He was always happy and had a smile. Terry loved life and people.

Terry leaves behind his wife Pam Rodgers of the home, his sister Carlotta and husband Lamar Frank of Cushing, his brother Ronnie Rodgers and wife Janice of Cushing, daughters Cindy and husband Brian Hill of Bella Vista, Ark., Tracy and husband Michael Boyd of Rogers, Ark., son Anthony Nugent of Cushing, grandsons Austin and Matthew, as well as other loved ones and friends.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents: Brother Russell Rodgers and Sister Fern Rodgers, and his brother: Gerald Rodgers

Terry will be missed and his family knows he is with the Lord and they all hope to be with him again some wonderful day.

Tina LeeAnn Taylor

Tina LeeAnn Taylor, 3, of Stillwater, passed away Feb. 25, 2006. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 2 at the First Assembly of God, Chandler, with internment following at Oak Park Cemetery, Chandler. Arrangements are under the direction of Brown's Funeral Parlor, Luther, Okla.

Spc. Brett William Miller

Spc. Brett William Miller, 23, of Chandler, passed away Feb. 25, 2006. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 2 at the First Assembly of God, Chandler, with internment following at Oak Park Cemetery, Chandler. Arrangements are under the direction of Brown's Funeral Parlor, Luther, Okla.

Helen Louise Browning

Helen Louise Browning, 65, of Oilton, died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006 at the Cushing Regional Hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday at the Freewill Baptist Church, Oilton. Rev. Angela Bentley will preside. Interment will follow at the Highland Cemetery, Oilton.

Services are entrusted to Palmer-Marler Funeral Home, Cushing.

Helen was born on June 26, 1940 in Oilton to Merle and Vanita (Johnson) Endecott. She grew up in Oilton and graduated from Oilton High School in 1958. Helen worked in a large manufacturing plant for many years. She later worked at the Oilton Convenient Store for a number of years. Helen loved to play bingo, shop and watch movies. She loved her animals. Helen was very tender hearted.

Helen is survived by her grandsons, Aaron and Justin Browning of Tulsa; sisters, Linda Spencer and husband Johnny of Bristow, Elizabeth Atwell and husband Ronald of Portland, Tenn.; daughter-in-law, Christina Browning of Tulsa; long time forever friend, Barbara Burden, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents, sons Merle Wesley Browning and Christopher Neal Browning and brother Charles Williams.

Thelma Young

Thelma Young, longtime Cushing resident and retired schoolteacher, died March 2, 2006 in Cushing at the age of 99 years.

She was born on May 24, 1906, in Dit, Missouri to J.H. and Ida Blankenship. The family moved in 1914 to Cushing, where J.H. Blankenship was in the grocery business until being elected Payne County assessor in 1932, an office he held until 1970.

After graduating from Cushing High School in 1924, Thelma attended Central State College for two years and returned to Cushing to teach at rural Round Grove School. She married Valcus F. Young on June 17, 1927 and lived in Cushing the remainder of her life.

She resumed teaching in elementary school in Cushing in 1943, attending Oklahoma A&M College during summer sessions until receiving her bachelor's degree in 1950. She retired in 1971.

She had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Cushing for more than 90 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1989 after 62 years of marriage; two brothers, Norman Blankenship and Norvelle (J.B.) Blankenship; a sister, Tresa Orr and a son-in-law, Wendell Bolton.

She is survived by two daughters, Sara Lou Cargill and husband Robert L. Cargill and Marcia Lee Bolton, all of Fort Worth, Texas; a son, John V. Young and wife Dru, of Sapulpa; seven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 4, 2006 at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church in Cushing with Dr. Lonny Lee officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church building fund, P.O. Box 187 Cushing, in her memory.

Lucille Cates

Lucille Cates passed away Monday, Jan. 31, 2006 after a brief illness in a Tyler hospice. She was born April 1, 1924 in Cushing to George Frank McMahan and Samantha Ella McIntosh McMahan. In 1940 she married Elzie John "Bud" Cates. She lived in Cushing and Stroud and briefly in Tyler, Texas.

She leaves behind two daughters and two son in laws, Carolyn Kay and Bob Brigance of Tyler Texas and Marilyn and Don Elliot of Yale; six grandchildren, five great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren plus many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother, and her sister.

Mrs. Cates was a member of the First Methodist Church of Stroud. Her sweet smile and gentle spirit will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Jack Davis

Jack Davis, 85, of Perry, Oklahoma, was the son of Floyd A. and Lela M. (McMahan) Davis. He was born May 3, 1920 in Cushing, Oklahoma and died Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at Perry Memorial Hospital.

Jack attended Cushing High School in Cushing, Oklahoma. He was a World War II veteran who served his country with the United States Army’s 77th Field Artillery from 1939-1945. He and Opal Alene Frazier were married on November 23, 1941, in Cushing, Oklahoma.

A resident of Noble County for 58 years, Jack moved to this community from the Drumright-Chandler area. He was a drilling and production superintendent for Petroleum Resources before he retired in 1985 after 38 years of employment.

Jack was a member of the First Baptist Church and the American Legion, was a 32nd degree Mason, a lifetime honorary FFA member and served as a City Council member for a number of years. He was a member of the Paradise Cove Community of Lake Carl Blackwell, and was an avid fisherman who fished with his sons and family and traveled and fished with many close friends.

A loving husband and father, Jack was a great teacher who taught his sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to love and appreciate the art of fishing. He loved to laugh and make others laugh. Jack enjoyed following the lives and activities of his seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 10, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Perry. Brother Aaron Summers will officiate. Interment will be in Grace Hill Cemetery at Perry. Services are under the direction of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in Perry or Perry Kids, Inc. in care of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home, 1010 N. 7th Street, Perry, OK 73077

A family visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 9, 2006 at Brown-Dugger Funeral Home.

In addition to his wife, Opal, Jack is survived by four sons, Tom Davis and his wife, Carolyn, and Jim Davis and his wife, Vernona, all of Perry, Oklahoma, and Bobby Davis and J.P. Davis and his wife, Dana, all of Edmond, Oklahoma; one brother, Dean Davis and his wife, Dorothy, of Enid, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Rusty and Cecilia Davis, of Perry, Oklahoma, Randy and Gaye Lea Davis, of Maryville, Tennessee, Mark and Steffani Richards, of Perry, Oklahoma, Jeff and Christa Davis, of Perry, Oklahoma, Lindsay Davis, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Tanner Carroll, of Los Angeles, California, and Ryan Davis, who plays baseball at Eastern Oklahoma State College; and eight great-grandchildren, Aspyn Davis, Karstyn Davis, Logan Davis, Katie Davis, Mikenzi Richards, Natalie Davis, Kort Davis and Cooper Richards.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Lela Davis, one brother and one sister.
