Leila Childers

Leila Childers died Wednesday at her Shawnee home. She was 103.

Mrs. Childers was born April 20, 1897, in Alabama to Ebb and Lula Peek. She moved with her family to Oklahoma in 1900 and settled southwest of Shawnee.

On Feb. 28, 1914, she married James M. Childers in Shawnee. She attended the Baptist church.

Survivors include her daughter, Minnie Taylor, Shawnee; daughter-in-law, Billie Childers, Del City; 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Rubin Marquez and Ralph Christian officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery.

Walter Lee Lynam

Shawnee resident Walter Lee Lynam died Wednesday at a local nursing home. He was 87.

Lynam was born June 22, 1913, in Hamilton County, Texas, to Robert Bracey and Mary A. (Massingill) Lynam. He married Alta Dowdy on April 24, 1935, in Bristow.

Lynam worked at Douglas Aircraft during World War II, then worked at Shawnee Plumbing Co. until retirement.

Lynam, a member of the Shawnee Masonic Lodge and Immanuel Baptist Church, was a professional boxer known as "Honey Boy Lynam."

Survivors include his wife, Alta Lynam, Shawnee; two sons and daughters-in-law, R.B. and Sandra Lynam, McAlester; Phillip and Candace Lynam, Shawnee; daughter, Linda Sue Duncan, Oklahoma City; six grandchildren, Robb and his wife, Paula; Steve and his wife, Spasha; Phillip and his wife, Angela; Rayna and her husband, Roger; Lisa and her husband, Rudy; and Jim Duncan; sister-in-law, Mauvline Dowdy; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Hubert "Dutch" and Zelma Dowdy, Hastings; four great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter LaDonne Buckmaster, and three brothers, Carl, Abe and Aubrey Lynam.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Richard Dickinson officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Angelic Hospice, 421 N. Beard, Shawnee, OK 74801.

David L. Richard

David L. Richard of Wewoka died Tuesday at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was 60.

He was born Feb. 7, 1941, in St. Louis, Okla., to Clarence and Bessie Richard.

Richard, a St. Louis graduate, was a farmer and rancher in the Wewoka and Holdenville areas. He was a member of Church of the Nazarene, Wewoka.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Joe Richard.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and Bud Fraze, Shawnee; granddaughter, Misty McDowell, Shawnee; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Betty and Ray O'Daniel, Maud; Francis and J.E. Cravy, Midwest City; and Gloria Decker, Nicoma Park; and brother and sister-in-law, C.A. Richard Jr. and Pat, New Mexico.

Services will be 1 p.m. today at Church of the Nazarene, Wewoka, with Meredith Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Pearson. Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Eric Jimenez

Eric Jimenez, infant son of John Dorsey and Jennifer Jimenez of Shawnee, died Tuesday at his home.

He was born Dec. 22, 2000, in Shawnee.

Survivors include his parents; one sister, Alyssa Dorsey of the home; grandmother, Paulita Jimenez, Eagle Pass, Texas; great-grandparents, Polo and Bonnie Suke, Jones, and James and Velma Wahwasuck Harjo, Holton, Kan.

A wake service was held Thursday evening at the home of Brad Hamilton, Hoyt, Kan. Burial will be Friday afternoon at the Wahwasuck Family Cemetery near Mayetta, Kan.

Mercer Funeral Home in Holton is in charge of arrangements.

Carl Laddie Jenkins

Carl Laddie Jenkins, 83, Edgewater, Md., died March 9 in Annapolis, Md.

He was born Oct. 25, 1917, in Tecumseh to Martin Kelso and Verona (Lee) Jenkins.

Jenkins served in the U.S. Navy as a radioman from 1937 to 1941. He enlisted with the Army Air Corps as an aircraft mechanic during World War II.

Jenkins, a Mason for 50 years, worked most of his life in the insurance business as a safety engineer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo Jenkins, in April 1998, and his parents.

Survivors include his son, Bruce Jenkins, Edgewater, Md.; two daughters, Patricia Gianozakos, Ixonia, Wis.; Andrea Johnson, Round Rock, Texas; two sisters, Gloria Bare and Wanda Silvera, both of California; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services were under the direction of George P. Kalas Funeral Home, Edgewater Md.

Milton F. Moydell

Milton F. Moydell, 83, Shawnee, died Thursday at an Oklahoma City hospital.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. Further arrangements are pending.

Marian Ellen Miranda

Marian Ellen Miranda died Thursday at her McLoud home. She was 53.

Services are pending with Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

William John Squire

William John Squire of Shawnee died Thursday in Iowa City, Iowa. He was 34.

Services are pending with Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Florence Christine Bennett

Florence Christine Bennett of Shawnee died Thursday at an Oklahoma City hospital. She was 96.

Services are pending with Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Sandra Kaye Jones

Sandra Kaye Jones, 58, Shawnee, died Thursday in Shawnee.

She was born Jan. 8, 1943, in Oklahoma City to W.M. and Lorene (Johnson) Sliger. She graduated from Shawnee High School and was a bookkeeper.

On May 4, 1963, she married Leroy Jones in Shawnee.

Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her father, W.M. Sliger, and stepfather, A.B. Fields.

Survivors include her husband, Clayton Leroy Jones, Shawnee; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Tammy Jones, Shawnee; daughter and son-in-law, Jimmy and Kristi Gibson, Shawnee; four grandchildren, Kaleigh and Chase Jones and Cailey and Cierra Gibson, all of Shawnee; mother, Lorene Fields, Shawnee; sister and brother-in-law, Yvonne and Bob Carver, Shawnee; and many other relatives and friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Liberty Baptist Church with Bill Matthews and Phil Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Cora S. Stone

Cora S. Stone died Wednesday at a Shawnee nursing center. The longtime Seminole resident was 89.

The daughter of Elijha Black and Ella (Edmondson) Black, she was born June 15, 1911, in Asher.

On June 8, 1940, she and Willard Stone were married in Chandler.

Mrs. Stone worked at Seminole Municipal Hospital and Pioneer Nursing Home for several years. She was affiliated with the Assembly of God Church.

Her husband preceded her in death Aug. 4, 2000.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Maple Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Roy Robertson will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Donald Byrum Huff

Former St. Gregory's University teacher Donald Byrum Huff, 63, died Thursday at a Stillwater living center.

The son of Byrum Otto and Theresa (Giroux) Huff, he was born Oct. 7, 1937, in Oklahoma City.

He graduated from Mount St. Mary's High School in Oklahoma City and St. Gregory's College in Shawnee, then received his degree in chemical engineering at Oklahoma State University, Stillwater.

Huff worked for Bendix Corporation in St. Louis, Mo., and taught chemical engineering at St. Gregory's University. He later worked for the Civil Service as a chemical engineer at the helium plant in Keyes, Okla.

Huff was a Catholic.

On Sept. 30, 1980, he and Corinne Molder were married in Chandler.

Preceding him in death were his wife, his father, and his brother Marvin Gerald Huff.

Survivors include his mother, Theresa Huff Conarro of Stillwater; stepsons, Dave Molder and Chuck Molder, both of Boston, Mass.; brother, Robert Dale Huff of Stillwater; nephews, Chris Huff and Andrew Huff, both of Carney; Stephen Huff and Erick Huff, both of Kansas City, Mo., and Nathan Huff of Wichita, Kan.; nieces, Roberta Huff of Tecumseh, Jill A. Huff of Bristow, and Jessica Huff of Wichita, Kan., as well as one great-nephew.

A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Strode Funeral Home in Stillwater.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Father Bob Schlitt will officiate. Burial will be at Sunnylane Cemetery in Oklahoma City.

Mary Esther Herring Chastain

Mary Esther Herring Chastain of Shawnee died Thursday at a local hospital. She was 89.

She was born May 27, 1911, to Gib and Mattie (Potts) Herring. She married Lowell Chastain on April 16, 1929, in Shawnee and was a member of the Assembly of God Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Milburn Chastain and two brothers.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Wanda Chastain Echard and Kenneth Echard, Midwest City; son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Alpha Chastain, Earlsboro; two sisters, Thelma Perry, Minnesota, and Opal Bitterman, California; eight grandchildren, Fred Chastain, Patti and David Haas, Steve Echard, Darrell Echard, Mark Echard, Terry Snyder, Carol Hartman and Kathy Glines; and three stepgrandchildren, Latricia Hignite, Dale Bugg and John Bugg, and many great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Assembly of God Church with the Rev. James W. Walter officiating. Burial will be in Little Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Ernest Henry Stewart Jr.

Graveside services for Ernest Henry Stewart Jr., 72, Shawnee, are set for 10 a.m. Monday at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Stewart died Wednesday at an Oklahoma City Hospital.

He was born March 25, 1928, in Augusta, Ga., to Ernest Henry and Erma Thompson Stewart. He attended Hapeville (Ga.) High School.

He and Joyce Earline Bryant were married Dec. 16, 1944, in Decatur, Ga.

Stewart retired in 1969 from the U.S. Air Force after 22 years of service, including duty in Korea and Vietnam. He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for his actions in fighting a fire in a guest house at Wadenhoe, England.

After retiring as an air traffic controller in the U.S. Air Force, he worked in other occupations in the Shawnee and Oklahoma City areas, including with Wolverine Tube.

He was a self-taught musician who played the accordion.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one son, David Anthony Stewart.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Stewart, of the home; daughter, Penelope "Penny" Carole Petree, Shawnee; son and daughter-in-law, Earnest Henry Stewart III and Donna Stewart, Oklahoma City; daughter-in-law, Judith A. Stewart, Summerville, S.C.; sisters, Juanita Wade, Crossville, Ala., and Patricia Giles, Roaz, Ala.; brother, George Stewart, Albany, Ga.; grandsons, Matthew Henry Stewart, Oklahoma City; Jeffrey Curtis Stewart and Randy Tyler Stewart, both of Summerville, S.C..; and J.W. Pete Petree and his wife Tracy M. Petree, Tulsa; granddaughter, Carrie Elizabeth Stewart, Oklahoma City, and great-granddaughter, Brianna Madison Petree, Tulsa.

Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
