Mirian Ellen Miranda

Services for Marian Ellen Miranda, 53, McLoud, are 10 a.m., Tuesday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jim Eldridge officiating.

She died Thursday at her home.

Leila Childers

Leila Childers died Wednesday in her Shawnee home. She was 103.

Preceding Mrs. Childers in death were her husband, James M. Childers, and her sons, James Childers, Otis Childers and Herman Childers.

Services were held Friday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Rubin Marquez officiated, assisted by Ralph Christian. Burial followed in Hopewell Cemetery.

Margaret Riggs Ludwig West

Margaret Riggs Ludwig West of Shawnee died Thursday in an Oklahoma City hospital. She was 84.

She was born July 29, 1915, in Holiday, Okla., to Walter James and Lora Margaret (Wise) Riggs.

She moved to the Lawton area with her family, graduating from Lawton High School in 1933. She married Kenneth West in Rush Springs, Okla., on April 24, 1968. She worked for her parents in their businesses before opening her own establishments in Lawton. She retired in 1972 and moved to Shawnee in 1974 to be with her family.

Preceding her in death were one brother, Richard Perry Riggs, a twin sister, Martha Victoria, who died at birth, and one nephew, Robert Riggs.

Surviving are her husband, Kenneth West of the home; one daughter, Lora Joyce Davis of Shawnee; one brother, Walter James Riggs of Lawton; one grandson, James Arthur Hunter; granddaughter Sydney Candice Marion; and four great-grandchildren, Kaleb Shane Marion, Kanlesa Paige Marion, Diana Jewel Hunter and Eric James Hunter; children adopted, Dale and Queyan White; grandchildren Rose Morales, Annie Chasteen, Dina White; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Lawton with Richard May of Shawnee and James Hunter officiating.

Jay Dean Holder

Former Del City resident Jay Dean Holder of Midland, Pa., died Wednesday at his home following a battle with cancer. He was 46.

He was born May 23, 1953, in Oklahoma City, the son of the late J.W. and Gertrude Buddig Holder.

He was employed as the shop foreman at Beaver Valley Trucking in Leetsdale. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol in Oklahoma.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Jo Mong Holder; three sons, Patrick Gutzmer of Mooseheart, Ill.; James and his wife, Rachel, Gutzmer of Shawnee; Matthew Gutzmer of Midland, Pa.; two daughters, Sara Gutzmer of Rochester, Pa. and Mariha Holder of Midland, Pa.

Services were held Friday under the direction of D.L. Williams Funeral Home of Midland, Pa.

Hazel Cowell

Hazel Cowell, 81, Seminole, died Wednesday at a Seminole hospital.

She was born March 23, 1918, in Roberta, Okla., to Robert Finley Woodard and Magie Ella (Howard) Woodard. She married Murl Cowell on Sept. 7, 1936, in Sulphur. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Tuskahoma Baptist Church and moved to Seminole in March 1996 from Tuskahoma.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother; three daughters, Betty Sue Cowell and twins Earlene and Marlene Cowell.

Surviving are her husband, Murl Cowell; one son, John Travis Cowell of Mt. Holley, Vt.; six daughters, Ilena Sanchezes of Chino Valley, Ariz.; Iena Breeden of Oklahoma City; Juanita Nichols of Seminole; Florence Haggerty of Norman; Margaret Jones of Noble and Imogene Herzer of Oklahoma City; one brother, Vernon Woodward of Oklahoma City; 24 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, one great-grandchild.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Raymon Breeden officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

Marian Ellen Miranda

McLoud resident Marian Ellen Miranda died Thursday at her home. She was 53.

She was born Dec. 11, 1947, in Lynwood, Calif., the daughter of Sidney and Ina Mayr. She attended high school in Azusa, Calif. Miranda worked at Wal-Mart in Midwest City and had lived in McLoud for 25 years.

She was preceded in death by her father and her husband, Russell David Miranda.

Surviving relatives include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Donald Joseph and Tamara Dawn Meredith, Oklahoma City, and Aaron Russell Miranda, McLoud; two daughters and one son-in-law, Christina Marie Davis, Ardmore, and Marci Leanne and Richard Bolling, Shawnee; her mother, Ina Mayr, Newfundland, Wis.; five brothers, Robert Mayr, Ed Mayr, Paul Mayr, John Mayr and Tom Mayr; and seven grandchildren, Matthew, Richard, Gary and Stephen Davis and Russell, Michael and Elizabeth Bolling.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel, Shawnee. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with Jim Eldridge officiating.

Justin Charles Wade Wolford

Justin Charles Wade Wolford, newborn son of John Lee and Shannon Michelle (Brock) Wolford, Shawnee, died Tuesday in a local hospital.

Justin was born March 13, 2001, in Shawnee,.

Survivors include his parents, John Lee and Shannon Wolford, Shawnee; brother, Shawn Wolford; sister, Jessica Wolford; maternal grandparents, Debbie and Jessie Silguero of Arbuckle, Calif., and Charles and Donna Brock of Hope, Ind., and paternal grandparents, Anthony and Linda Wolford, Yuba, Calif. He also is survived by several great-grandparents and other relatives.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Fairview Cemetery. The Rev. Doyle Loveland will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Linda Kay (Larney) Bear

Linda Kay (Larney) Bear, 57, Seminole, died Friday at an Oklahoma City hospital.

The daughter of John and Melinda (Alexander) Larney, she was born April 18, 1943, in Seminole. She joined and was baptized at Hitchitee United Methodist Church when she was a teen-ager.

In 1964, she was married in Oklahoma City to Pawnee "Bill" Bear, who preceded her in death Sept. 24, 1994.

Mrs. Bear lived and worked most of her life in Oklahoma City.

Also preceding her in death were her parents and a son, Stephen Dale Bear.

Survivors include two sons, Joseph Wayne Burgess of Tecumseh and Cecil Ray Bear of Oklahoma City; a daughter, Vanessa Cervantes of Seminole; two brothers, John Larney Jr. of Inola, Kan., and Simon Jacob Larney of Bowlegs; six sisters, Rachel Bear, Johnnie Mae Alford and Shirley Walters, all of Shawnee; Sally Fixico and Idalena Atoddlety, both of Seminole; and Cecila Barnett of Tulsa; five grandchildren, Anthony Wayne Burgess, Stephen Shane Bear, Alyssa Nicole Bear, Samuel Lee and Leah Kay Cervantes; and numerous other relatives.

Viewing will be at the funeral home until 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Wake services will be 6:30 p.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, Seminole.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hitchitee United Methodist Church. The Rev. Mike Harjo and the Rev. Michael Svitak will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Alden A. Rutherford

McLoud resident Alden A. Rutherford, 77, died Friday.

He was born June 26, 1923, in Hulbert, Okla., to Arvol and Ida (Mann) Rutherford.

He was the first civil defense director in McLoud, and he retired in 1974 after 30 years of service at Tinker Air Force Base. He was a member of First Baptist Church, McLoud, and he coached Little League football and baseball.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Lorraine; one son, Michael, and wife Laura; a daughter, Brenda; two brothers, Edward and Curtis; a sister, Ineta Ferrie; four grandchildren; and many other family and friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, McLoud, with burial at Meeker Cemetery under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service.

Milton F. Moydell

Shawnee resident Milton F. Moydell, 83, died Thursday at an Oklahoma City hospital.

Moydell was born June 16, 1917, one of 10 children of Charles and Lulu Moydell. He was born and raised on a farm in Centerview and graduated from Centerview High School.

On May 15, 1944, he married Elizabeth Wheatley in Portland, Ore. They were married 56 years. He traveled the world while serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1941-45.

He was a retired aircraft mechanic and worked at Tinker Air Force Base from 1951-1977.

He was a lifetime member of VFW and DAV.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lawrence and Kenneth; and three sisters, Helen, Augusta and Evangeline.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Elizabeth Moydell, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Joyce Moydell, Newalla; daughter and son-in-law, Keithie and Tommy Eaton, Newalla; three brothers, Keith Moydell of Prague, Chester Moydell of Del City, and Lester Moydell of Enid; one sister, Virginia Garrett, Shawnee; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel, Shawnee, with Dr. Doug Melton officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park. The casket will remain open until 1 p.m. and will not be open after the service.

Ernest Henry Stewart Jr.

Graveside services for Ernest Henry Stewart Jr., 72, Shawnee, are set for 10 a.m. Monday at Resthaven Memorial Park. The Air Force Honor Guard will participate in the services.

Stewart died Wednesday at an Oklahoma City Hospital.

He was born March 25, 1928, in Augusta, Ga., to Ernest Henry and Erma Thompson Stewart. He attended Hapeville (Ga.) High School.

He and Joyce Earline Bryant were married Dec. 16, 1944, in Decatur, Ga.

Stewart retired in 1969 from the U.S. Air Force after 22 years of service. He had served as master sergeant. He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for his actions in fighting a fire in a guest house at Wadenhoe, England.

After retiring as an air traffic controller in the U.S. Air Force, he worked in other occupations in the Shawnee and Oklahoma City areas, including Wolverine Tube.

He was a self-taught musician who played the accordion.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one son, David Anthony Stewart.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Stewart, of the home; daughter, Penelope Carole Petree, Shawnee; son and daughter-in-law, Ernest Henry Stewart III and Donna Stewart, Oklahoma City; daughter-in-law, Judith A. Stewart, Summerville, S.C.; sisters, Juanita Wade, Crossville, Ala., and Patricia Giles, Roaz, Ala.; brother, George Stewart, Albany, Ga.; grandsons, Matthew Henry Stewart, Oklahoma City; Jeffrey Curtis Stewart and Randy Tyler Stewart, both of Summerville, Ga.; and J.W. Pete Petree and his wife Tracy M. Petree, Tulsa; granddaughter, Carrie Elizabeth Stewart, Oklahoma City, and great-granddaughter, Brianna Madison Petree, Tulsa.

Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

William John Squire

Shawnee resident William John Squire died Thursday in Iowa City, Iowa. He was 34.

Squire was born Dec. 26, 1966, in Shawnee to William and Darby Squire. He attended Earlsboro High School.

In 1997, he married Winona Ann Kapayou-Squire.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Lauresa Cerise; brothers, Burton Thomas Harjo, Sapulpa, Sammy Harjo, Norman, and Billie Gene Squire and Carl Raymond Squire, both of Shawnee; sisters, Charlotte Rania Mauldin, McLoud, and Sharon Melody Harjo, Shawnee; and many other relatives and friends.

Burial was Saturday at Squire-Clarke Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Home with Gary Hawkins officiating. Tribal rites were under the direction of Johnny Mann.

Kenneth Eugene Colvin

Kenneth Eugene Colvin of Seminole died Sunday in Seminole County. He was 18.

He was born March 6, 1983, in Seminole, the son of David Colvin and Rhonda (Lozer) Colvin.

Colvin was a junior at Seminole High School. He was an offensive and defensive football player for the Chieftains and also a member of the weightlifting team.

He was a part-time employee of Kentucky Fried Chicken in Seminole and a member of the Noizy Toyz Car Club.

Survivors include father and stepmother, David and Cathy Colvin of Shawnee; mother, Rhonda Colvin of Seminole; sister, Heather Colvin of Seminole; paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Mary Colvin of Seminole; maternal grandparents, Betty Lozer of Crane, Texas, and George Allen of Seminole; great-grandfather, Howard Yancey of Seminole; stepgrandparents, Bob and Georgia Taylor of Shawnee; stepbrother, Chris McBay of Shawnee; stepsister, Catie McBay of Shawnee; aunts and uncles, Wada Ross of Seminole, and Lisa and Greg Tarrant of Hereford, Ariz.; uncles and aunts John and Tracey Colvin of Earlsboro, Tim and Jennifer Colvin of Earlsboro and William Lozer of Hereford, Ariz.; girlfriend, Cora Hudson; and a host of cousins, family members and friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Seminole High School Auditorium with the Rev. Steve Cline officiating. Burial will be at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Seminole, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.
