Paul Hatten Shepherd

Seminole resident Paul Hatten Shepherd died Wednesday at a Seminole hospital. He was 76.

Shepherd was born May 1, 1923, in Chelsea, Okla., to Cluis Emerson Shepherd and Bessie (Simmons) Shepherd. He married Marie Lo Lindsay on Oct. 3, 1947, in Shawnee.

He was a retired building contractor and had served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army. He had lived in Tulsa before moving to Seminole 14 years ago. He was a member of Congregational Methodist Church in Seminole and the American Legion.

Survivors include two daughters, Ann Clinkenbeard, Seminole; and Paula Milan, Safety Harbor, Fla.; brothers, Leon Shepherd, Bethel; the Rev. Bill Shepherd, Shawnee; sister, Berniece Crow, Tecumseh; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie, in April of 1996; his parents and one son.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Joe Faircloth officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Homer H. Green

Meeker resident Homer H. Green died Wednesday at a local hospital. He was 91.

Green was born July 1, 1907, in Meeker to George M. and Lillie M. (Boland) Green.

He married Myrtle L. O'Neal on Jan. 25, 1928, in Tecumseh.

He was a retired dairy farmer and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Meeker. He lived in the Meeker area all his life until failing health forced him to move to Konawa.

Survivors include his wife, Myrtle L. Green, of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Lloyd and Pat Green, Konawa, and Bill and Velma Green, Garland, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Don Davenport, Earlsboro, and Faye Ann and Weldon Ratcliff, Meeker; sister, Ruth Moucka, Meeker; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Services will be 3 p.m. today at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Don Brown officiating. Burial will be at New Hope Cemetery in Meeker under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

John George Westover

John George Westover of Shawnee died Wednesday at Shawnee Regional Hospital. He was 100.

He was born Nov. 27, 1898, in Crawford County, Missouri, to John Quincy Westover and Evaline Waller. He worked as an engineer for the city of Tulsa, and later served as a engineer for Tulsa Oil Co. until his retirement.

He was a veteran of World War I and World War II, U.S. Army Signal Corp. He had lived in Shawnee's Park View Nursing Home for the past 23 years.

Preceding him in death were parents, three brothers, two sisters, two nephews and one niece.

Surviving are two nieces, Dorothy Davenport Ginn of Chandler; Vernal Davenport Carothers of Wichita, Kan.; six great nieces, Lorelei Palmer-Hejduk of Stillwater; Rachel Palmer Green of Manchester, Okla.; Donella Palmer of Minnesota; Doris Davenport Smalley of Shawnee; Janis Davenport Woodruff of Shawnee; Sue Ginn Clover of Houston, Texas; and one great nephew, Roy Davenport of Baton Rough, La.

Graveside services are 2 p.m. today at Oak Park Cemetery in Chandler with Michael Henrichs of the Christian Church of Chandler officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

E.C. Ketchem

E.C. Ketchem of Shawnee died Wednesday in Rancho Mirage, Calif. He was 93.

He was born Oct. 21, 1905, in Cass, Ark., to William Edgar and Sarah Tennessee (Anderson) Ketchem.

Ketchem was a marketer for Magnolia Petroleum, and transferred to Shawnee in 1944. In 1950, he established The Sinclair Agency and operated it until his retirement in 1966.

He married Vivian McIlroy March 30, 1930, in Stillwater, Okla. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife in 1997, six sisters and one brother.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Donald Eugene and Cheery Ketchem of Thousand Palms, Calif.; a sister, Jo Scott Hixson of Seminole; two granddaughters, Terri Lynn Fleck and Lisa Renee Ketchem of Seal Beach, Calif.; and one great grandson, Jeremy James Carstenson, Seal Beach, Calif.

Services will be noon Saturday at Liberty Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Matthews and Larry Goins officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Irene Eva Legako

Irene Eva Legako died Wednesday in Edmond. She was 85.

She was born March 25, 1914, in Wellston to Edward and Helen (Peterson) Legako.

She grew up in Wellston. After graduating high school, she graduated from the University of Oklahoma School of Nursing in 1941.

She signed up to serve a year in the U.S. Army, but her duty was extended. She was a surgical scrub nurse and was sent to Northern Africa in 1943. She was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious World War II service. She retired after 29 years of Army service as a major.

She then returned to Wellston and helped look after the family farm and cattle.

Survivors include her brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Mary Ann Legako and Steve and Ruth Legako, all of Edmond; Col. Ted and Barbara Legako, Stillwater; and Victor and Anne Legako, Fletcher; sisters, Wanda Legako, Wellston; Dorothy Sherrer, El Dorado, Kan.; and Vivian Winter, Junction City, Ore.; sister-in-law, Hellen Legako, Wellston; 19 nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, one sister and two brothers-in-law.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. today at the Wellston Cemetery with the Rev. Dwayne Settle officiating under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Chandler.

Memorials may be made to Glafko-Legako, American Legion Post No. 61, Wellston.

Lorene Bowlan

Lorene Bowlan, 83, Shawnee, died Thursday at a local nursing home.

Mrs. Bowlan was born Sept. 13, 1915, near Ola, Ark., to Milton and Ollie (Bishop) Sullivan.

She married Orvan Bowlan June 2, 1935, in Shawnee. He preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church. She lived in and around Shawnee most of her life.

Survivors include include her daughters and son-in-law, Veld and Bob DeBolt, Tulsa, and Patricia McQuerry, Shawnee; son, Royce Bowlan, Tulsa; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Kathy Bowlan, Shawnee; sister, Ruby Wilson, Shawnee; daughter-in-law, Kitty Bowlan, Collinsville; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a sister.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel. The casket will not be opened after the service.

Memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church building fund.

Russell Myron Strong Jr.

Russell Myron Strong Jr., 53, died Friday in a local nursing home.

He was born June 18, 1947, in Nett Lake Reservation, Minn., the son of Russell Strong Sr. and Elsie (Sam) Strong. He attended school in northern Missouri.

During the past several years, he had worked in construction and had worked as a painter and general contractor.

In 1971, he helped to start the Greater Minnesota Day Care Association.

He had spend the last 18 years with his life partner, Elizabeth Wahpepah.

His parents and two sisters preceded Strong in death.

Survivors include his partner of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel Wahpepah, Patrick Strong, Shannon Kegg-Strong and Bryan Strong, all of Minneapolis, Minn.; Anthony Strong, Jerrod Strong, Asa Strong and Aaron Strong, all of Shawnee, and Russell Strong III and his wife Katie of New Hope, Minn.; and daughters, Marleyna Wahpepah, Constance Strong, Jodie Strong and Melyssa Strong, all of Shawnee, Angelica Strong of Minneapolis and Christine Strong of Brooklyn Center, Minn.

He is also survived by his brother, Stanley Strong of Minneapolis, 10 grandchildren, and nine nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Salvation Army of Shawnee. Capt. Carylyle Gargis and Capt. Charlotte Gargis will officiate. Burial will be in Nett Lake Reservation Cemetery in Minnesota.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Evelyn Morris

Tecumseh resident Evelyn Morris, 82, died Saturday in Oklahoma City.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at Cooper Funeral Chapel. Rep. Dale Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery. Cooper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The daughter of Fred and Ressie (Aurthur) Sheppard was born in Red Oak, Mo., on July 16, 1918. She was reared in Seminole and had lived in Midwest City, Miller, Mo., Shawnee and Eufaula before moving to Tecumseh five years ago.

On March 7, 1936, she married Beauford Morris in Seminole. The couple owned and operated Morris Cleaners in Tecumseh.

Morris was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church, the BPW, the Rebekah Lodge, the Ladies American Legion Auxiliary and the Order of the Eastern Star, where she was past worthy matron and district deputy.

Morris also played semi-professional softball.

Preceding her in death were her parents, one brother, one sister and one grandson, Randy Morris.

Survivors include her husband of the home; son, Bob Morris of Tecumseh; grandson and his spouse, Rick and Joanie Morris of Winchester, Va.; granddaughter and her spouse, Rhonda and Jack Chronister of El Reno; stepgranddaughter and her spouse, Johnece and Jessie Jones of Tecumseh; five great-grandchildren; and many other relatives.

Viewing began Sunday and will be held 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. today at Cooper Funeral Home.

Ruby Evelyn Redd

Ruby Evelyn Redd died Sunday in Shawnee at the age of 88.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Larry Sparks will officiate. Burial will be in New Salem Cemetery, Jacktown.

Further information will announced under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.

Chandra Lei Adams

Chandra Lei Adams died Saturday in a Kansas City, Mo., hospital. The Wichita, Kan., resident was 24.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel. Howard Hatcher, a missionary from Kansas City, will officiate. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

The daughter of Bruce V. and Janice (Tribbey) Adams was born in Tulsa on Oct. 1, 1976.

She attended school in Maize, Kan. She had studied architectural and interior design at Chandler Community College in Chandler, Ariz.

Adams was a member of the Sierra Club environmentalist study.

Her grandfather, William J. Tribber, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her parents of Wichita; brother, Jared J. Adams of Wichita; and grandparents, Evelyn Tribbey of Ada and Vic and Faye (Sager) Adams of Shawnee.
