Dora Dell Cook Mathews
Dora Dell Cook Mathews, 82, formerly of Norman, Oklahoma, died Wednesday, April 21, 2004 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Hugh Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Norman I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma.
Mrs. Mathews was born January 18, 1922 in Greenville,
Texas, to James F. and Lucy (Bell) Cook. She was a longtime
resident of Norman before moving to Harlingen, Texas in 1986. She
recently moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. Dora was married for sixty one
years to Ted P. Mathews. She was actively involved in
community service, volunteering for the Cerebral Palsy Center in
Norman and as a Reading Mentor for Harlingen Public Schools in
Texas. She was a member of both the Norman and Harlingen Golf
and Country Clubs, and the Town and Country Garden Club in
Norman. Dora loved playing bridge and golf. She was a member of
the First Presbyterian Church of Harlingen, TX and the First Christian
Church in Norman.
Mrs. Mathews was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Ted, of the home; son, Richard Cook
Mathews and wife, Erin, of Dallas, TX; daughter, Lucy Ann Mathews
Vaught and husband, Gary, of Indianapolis, IN; sister, Claudine
Ibbotson of Abilene, TX; two grandsons, Grant Mathews Vaught and
wife, Lindy Rae, of Indianapolis, IN and Travis Hayden Mathews of
Dallas, TX; great-grandson, Logan Lane Vaught; and nephew,
Timothy Ibbotson of Abilene, TX.
Memorial donations may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, 825 NE 13th St. Oklahoma City, OK 73104-9930

Stanley Allison McCourry
Stanley Allison McCourry, 64, of Norman, went to be with our Lord, Thursday, April 8, 2004 in Norman.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at Berry Road Baptist Church, 500 N. Berry Road, Norman, Oklahoma. Interment will be at Mustang Cemetery, Mustang, Oklahoma.
Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma.
Stan was born January 22, 1940 in Oklahoma City to Lena
and Robert McCourry. He was a graduate of Norman High School
and the University of Oklahoma. He was a member of the Norman
High band and the Pride of Oklahoma marching band. Stan
married Martha Walton on January 26, 1963 in Norman, OK. He
was employed for 20 years as Assistant Chief of Engineering of
the Oklahoma Teaching Hospitals and almost 10 years as Plant
Engineer for the Natural Water Bottling Company in Norman. He
served in the community as Cub master, District Pinewood Derby
chairman, Scoutmaster and Explorer Postmaster. He enjoyed
hobbies of golfing, hunting, fishing, snow and water skiing and
making golf clubs. He was active at Berry Road Baptist Church,
Norman. He served as chairman of the Deacons and at one time
served as a Sunday School teacher.
He is preceded in death by son, Stanley Jr.; father, Robert;
and brother Robert Jr. Stan is survived by his wife Martha of the
home; mother, Lena; three children and their spouses Stanton and
wife Nancy of Norman, John and wife Dawn of Round Rock,
Texas, Melanie Thacker and husband Jon of Twenty-Nine Palms,
California; and seven grandchildren.

Margaret E. “Maggie” Melson
Margaret E. “Maggie” Melson, 71, of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, April 4, 2004 at Manor Care Nursing Home in Norman, Oklahoma.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Jim Beckett, Mission Hospice, officiating. Interment will be at 3:30 P.M., Wednesday at Rose Hill Cemetery in Calera, Oklahoma.
Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of
Norman, Oklahoma.
Maggie was born on July 12, 1932 in Silo, Oklahoma to
Emmons and Earline (Schultz) Barton. She graduated from Calera
High School in 1948. She worked as a homemaker, then operator for
Southwestern Bell until she retired in 1985. After retirement, she
moved to Durant, Oklahoma and worked for the public school system
as an aide in the special education department. Eventually, she
moved to Denison, Texas to be close to her daughter Sheryl, then she
moved to Norman to share time with her youngest daughter, Pam.
Maggie’s greatest pleasure in life was her children, grandchildren,
family and pets. She always loved them unconditionally. Maggie
enjoyed a good laugh and was known for the gleam in her eye and her
keen sense of humor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emmons and
Earline Barton, five of her siblings and a grandson, Tim.
She is survived by her daughters, Sheryl Bowen and her
husband Randell, of Denison, Texas; Pam Boeck and her husband
Dave of Norman, Oklahoma; son, Richard Melson and his wife Amy
of Naples, Florida; grandchildren, Aaron and Andrew Melson, Daniel
Harper, Nathan Hursh, Katy Knight and Sam Boeck; three great
grandchildren, Corbin, Taylor and Kylie; a brother, Buddy and a
sister, Lola, and her “special, blue-eyed daughter,” Carla. A heartfelt
thanks goes out to the staff at Manor Care Nursing Home and to
Mission Hospice. Memorial contributions may be made to the
Special Olympics.

Shirley Ann Niece
Shirley Ann Niece, 63, of Norman, Oklahoma, loving wife,
mother, sister and friend, passed away Easter Sunday, April 11, 2004
in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00
P.M., Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at the Calvary Free Will Baptist
Church at 3730 North Porter Ave in Norman, Oklahoma in Norman
with Reverend Mike Wade officiating. Arrangements are under the
direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma.
Mrs Niece was born March 13, 1941 in Purcell, Oklahoma, to
George Edward and Edith Faye (Henson) Dean. She married Robert
“Bob” Lee Niece on April 14, 1968 at the Little Axe Methodist
Church. She was dearly loved and will be missed very much. She
liked little black curly puppies, plants, shopping and pretty knick knacks.
Shirley was the most wonderful and beloved woman God ever made.
Mrs. Niece was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors
include her loving husband, Bob of the home; daughter, Linda Lee
Barnett and husband, Brent of Rosebud, Texas; six brothers, Clifford
Dean of Norman, Bobby Dean of Arkansas, Ralph of Louisiana, Ray
and Hollis Dean, both of Mineral Springs, Arkansas and Bill Dean of
Little Axe, Oklahoma; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Alvie Price
Alvie Price, 82 of Norman, Oklahoma, died Thursday, April 15, 2004 at Norman Regional Hospital after several strokes. Services will be held at 2pm, Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at Immanuel Baptist Church in Norman with Pastor Ken Huddleston officiating. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home.
Alvie was born January 24, 1922, in Stratford, OK to Elmer and Mammie Price. He
attended Moore Schools and Boeing Aircraft School. He
served in the U.S. Navy from November 1942 until he was
discharged in July 1944. Alvie married Lura Mae Tener on
September 15, 1944 in Moore, OK and moved to Norman in
January 1945. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 9
years, for Armor Meat Co. for 3 years, Tinker Air force Base,
where he retired in 1981, and then Primrose Funeral Home
until June 1988.
Alvie loved antiques, working on antique clocks, fishing, and aggravating his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He helped start Suburban Baptist Church in Moore and has been a member and greeter at Immanuel Baptist Church since 1973.
Alvie is survived by his wife of the home; daughter, Jo
Nell Lunow and husband, Gary, of Moore; son, Jerry Price
and wife, Martha of Norman; two sisters; one brother; four
grandchildren, six great grandchildren, several nieces and
nephews, and a host of friends.
Memorial Contributions can be made to Immanuel Baptist Church 715 E. Eufaula, Norman, Ok 73071.

Gene William Sayers
Gene Sayers, 71, of Norman, Oklahoma, died Sunday, April 18, 2004. Services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, April 22, 2004 at Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Norman with Reverend Cal Brannon officiating.
Gene was born August 1, 1932, in Oklahoma City, OK to James Carey Sayers and Mildred Irene (Barlow) Sayers. He spent his life working in the land surveying/ engineering field. He attended the University of Oklahoma. He served in the U.S. Army (guided missiles) from 1953
to 1955. Gene married Patsy Ann Saunders on September 18, 1964,
in Del City, OK. He worked for Rea Engineering 6 years and then
served as the 1st Director of Public Works for the City of Norman 4
years. He returned to Rea Engineering until he and partners bought
the business and formed Design Engineers, Inc., where he retired
from in 1998.
Gene earned his Eagle Scout at 14 years old. He was the 1st President
of the Oklahoma Chapter of the American Public Works Association.
He was a member of many other organizations including the
Oklahoma Society of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors,
Toastmasters, The Ancient and Beneficent Order of the Red
Rose and Eakly Gobbler Lodge. He loved aviation, vacationing in
Aruba, Sooner football and his family. He is a member of the
McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a very well
respected man by all that knew him.
