Arnold Hawk Bayhylle

Arnold Hawk Bayhylle was born on Aug. 21, 1949 in Pawnee to Batiste L. Bayhylle and Anita L. Norman Bayhylle. He passed from this life on Wednesday, April 5, 2006 in Cushing, having reached the age of 56 years, 7 months, and 14 days. He married Pamela Bowdoin on Feb. 14, 1985 in the home of Mike and Kathy Starks in Cushing. He attended Southeastern State College and received his master's degree in education. He has been a teacher with the Cushing Public Schools for 34 years. In 1974 he served as Chief of the Nasharo Council and was the youngest Chief to serve. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and coach.

Arnold is survived by his wife, Pamela Bayhylle, Cushing; son, Batiste Bayhylle, Cushing; 3 brothers, Neill Bayhylle and his wife, Judi, Stillwater, and their sons, Brian, Scott and Elliott Bayhylle, Cushing; Joe Bayhylle, Cushing; Maurice Bayhylle and his wife, Gwen, and their daughters, Amanda and Leah, Glenpool; sister, Cheryl Bayhylle and her son, Jordan, Stillwater; plus several other nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, Batiste and Anita Bayhylle, and two sisters, Beatrice Butler and Marvena Sexton.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 8, 2006 at the Pawnee Nation Multi-Purpose Complex with Rev. Duane Pratt officiating. Interment will be at South Indian Cemetery, Pawnee. Services are under the direction of Poteet Funeral Home, Pawnee.

Memorials may be made to DaVita Dialysis Center, 4436 S. Harvard, Tulsa, Okla, 74135.

Lorena Louisa "Igy" Whipkey "Kewatonok"

Lorena Louisa "Igy" Whipkey "Kewatonok" was born Feb. 7, 1913 and passed from this life on April 5, 2006 at the age of 93 years. She was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend of many. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, April 8, 2006 at the Palmer-Marler Funeral Home Chapel and a Graveside service for 10 a.m. Sunday, April 9, 2006 at the Fairlawn Cemetery, Cushing. Funeral services are entrusted to Palmer-Marler Funeral Home, Cushing.

Igy was the daughter of Grace and Elmer Manatowa and was born southeast of Cushing at the family home. She was the granddaughter of William and Sophia Dooley and George and Laura Manatowa.

She married Alfred Whipkey, in 1943. During WWII she lived in Georgia and North Carolina. The couple returned to Cushing where they made their home until moving to Glendive, Montana. Igy returned to Cushing to live the last years of her life.

Igy attended Sac and Fox Agency School, Chilaco and Haskell Indian School. She was a homemaker, a museum curator, basketball star and she enjoyed traditional beading and ribbon work. She had a great curiosity about the world around her.

She was preceded in death by her son, Ronnie Whipkey, her parents Elmer and Grace Manatowa, her sisters Mac Pequano, Hope DellaCale and Margrite Manatowa, her brother, Josehph Manatowa and nephews Jerry Bell Blankenship and Arly Blankenship.

Survivors include her sisters, Buckey Nelson, Billie Sobey, Lucille Dugger and brother Elmer Manatowa. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who loved her dearly.

Bobby Lee York

Cushing resident Bobby Lee York died Sunday, April, 9, 2006 at the age of 70 years. Graveside memorial services will be held at the Sac and Fox Cemetery on Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at 2 p.m. Services are under the direction of the Parks Brothers Funeral Services in Stroud.

Joe Dale Nelson

Joe Dale Nelson was born on August 13, 1938, in Snomac, Okla. and departed this life on Sunday, April 9, 2006, in Prague, Okla., at the age of 67. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Prague with Bro. Tim Emmons officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.

Winnie O. Harding

Stroud resident Winnie O. Harding died Sunday, April 9, 2006 at the age of 88. Funeral services were held at the Parks Brothers Chapel at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11, 2006. Burial followed in the Stroud Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Stroud.

Thomas Jefferson Hughes

Thomas Jefferson Hughes, Jr., a long time Cushing business and civic leader died April 10, 2006 in Tulsa. He was 97. T.J. was born Oct. 22, 1908 and raised in Cushing. His parents were Thomas J. and Clara Hughes, an early pioneer Cushing family.

T.J. graduated from high school at New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, NM. He attended college at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA. T.J. was a wrestler in high school and college. While at Washington and Lee he competed for a spot on the U.S. Olympic wrestling team.

He managed the family building supply business until the mid sixties, when he retired. He was active in industry affairs throughout his business career and served as President of the Oklahoma Lumbermen's Association in 1956. T.J. was a Director of the Bank of Cushing for forty-five years, retiring in 1989.

T.J. was presented with the 1997 Community Service Award by the Cushing Chamber of Commerce. He was a past president of the Chamber and served on the Board of Directors for many years.

He had been a long time member of the Cushing Country Club and became an active golfer for several years following his retirement.

T.J.'s parents were among the founders of the First Presbyterian Church where he was a life long member.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth, who died in 1979 shortly before their fiftieth wedding anniversary. He later married Faye Crenshaw, who died in 2000. T.J. is survived by two sons, Tom Hughes and his wife, Sally of Tulsa and Jack Hughes and his wife, Michele of Edmond; four grandchildren, Jeff Hughes and his wife Ann of Tulsa, Robert Hughes and his wife Carolyn of Tulsa, Holly Lehman and her husband Scott of Tulsa and Mark Hughes of Edmond, and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by one brother Hugh R. Hughes.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 2 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Tom Stewart officiating.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 1027, Cushing, Oklahoma 74023.

Leona Mae Hall

Leona Mae Hall, lifelong Cushing resident, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2006 in the Cushing Regional Hospital at the age of 81 years.

The daughter of the late Leo Sherrod and Genevieve Kinkaid Sherrod, Leona was born on Aug. 26, 1924 in Cushing and was reared and educated here, graduating from Cushing High School in 1942. Following high school she attended the Cheatham Business College in Oklahoma City and over the years had worked for several different Business's in bookkeeping/secretarial work. She had worked for Confetti's cards and gifts for over 13 years as a sales clerk prior to her retirement.

She was married to her high school sweetheart, Gerald Hall on July 22, 1947 in Sherman, TX and to this union three sons, Larry, David and Bill were born.

Leona was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church where she attended the Adult II Sunday School Class. She enjoyed shopping, traveling and spending time with her family and friends. Her great laugh and happiness will be missed forever.

She is survived by her husband of over 58 years, Gerald of the home; three sons, Larry Hall, David Hall and his wife Vickie and Bill Hall; seven grandchildren, Chuck Hall and his wife Theresa, Natalie Hall, Seth Hall, Matt Hall, Joshalyn Ocker and her husband Mike, Sheli Thomas and her husband Trey and Michelle Paden and her husband Justin; nine great-grandchildren, Xzavier Hall, Bryce Ocker and his wife Laci, Sarah, Abby, Sydnee, Sherrod, Elly and Selah Ocker and Riley Thomas; one great-great-grandson, Hayden Ocker; one brother, Frank Sherrod and his wife Eletha; one niece Jamie Sherrod; one nephew Steve Sherrod; one cousin, Maxine White and her husband Fred and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. in the First Baptist Church with Doctor Lonny Lee officiating.

Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery.

Serving as casketbearers will be Bob Call, Cliff Miles, David Cargill, Earl Berger, Don Ethridge and Sid Shaw. Serving as honorary casketbearers will be Rodger Floyd, Wilmer Smith and Oliver Kinzie.

Family will greet friends in the Davis Memorial Chapel on Friday evening from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

OmaLea Louise Hogue

OmaLea Louise Hogue, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2006 in Cushing at the age of 91 years.

She was born on Aug. 14, 1914 in Agra, Oklahoma to Homer and Lena Furst Harmon. She moved with her family to Cushing where her family opened a dairy farm during the Great Depression.

She was united in marriage to Ralph E. Sprague in 1933. To this union two children, Charles and Marilyn, were born. Ralph passed away of a heart attack in 1958. She later married Grant Pierce. After his death to cancer, she married Warren Hogue. They moved from Cushing to Perkins in 1998. After his death in 1999 to heart attack, she lived alone until returning to Cushing in 2005 to live in the Linwood Village Nursing Home.

She was a member of Bible Evangelistic Temple for many years. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother, she will be dearly missed. She enjoyed cooking, reading and tea parties. One of her favorite hobbies was embroidering tea towels for her family and friends. She was very loving and generous.

She is survived by one son, Charles L. Sprague of Cushing and one daughter, Marilyn Sparkman and her husband Jerry of Perkins; 8 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, and husbands, she was preceded in death by one brother, Roscoe Harmon; one sister, Nelly Anderson; one sister-in-law Beverly Sprague and her beloved Chihuahua Penny.

Services will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. in the Davis Memorial Chapel with Reverend Rick Alexander of Perkins, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Harrell Cemetery, Cushing.

Visitation may be made at the Funeral Home and the casket will not be opened following services.

Pauline Edwards Ozmun

Pauline Edwards Ozmun, 92, died April 16, 2006. Pauline was born Nov. 23, 1913 in Dropright, Okla. to David P. and Myrtle B. Troxel of Quay, Okla. She graduated from Quay High School in 1929 and later married James Elmo Edwards in 1931 and they made their home in Quay and Yale, Oklahoma. Pauline lost her first husband in 1947 and later married William H. Ozmun in 1957. Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; 1st husband "Pinky" and 2nd husband "Bill", brother Darrell K. Troxel, sister Davene McDaniel and grandson Jefferson Davis. Survivors include her daughter Jackie Davis of Mannford, son and daughter-in-law Corky and Wanda Edwards of Yale, daughter and son-in-law Jerry and Howard Clayman of Edmond, son and daughter-in-law, Don and Mary Edwards of Broken Arrow; 5 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. Pauline was a life long member of the First United Methodist Church in Yale, and later when she was unable to drive she enjoyed the First Baptist Church Sunday services via television. Pauline worked many years for Davis Feed, owned and operated a dry goods store in Yale. She later became the Executive Secretary of Yale Housing. Pauline was among the organizers of the Friends of Lawson Cemetery, a non-profit organization to beautify the local/Yale Quay Cemetery. Her projects included the arch at the entrance of the Cemetery, the chapel for graveside services and keeping the roads graveled and graves maintained. The family wishes to give a special thanks to Dr Michael Imen, Soujourn Hospice, and the staff of Cimarron Point Nursing Center for the loving care they gave to our mother. Services are entrusted to Palmer-Marler Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, April 20, 2006 at the First Baptist Church, Yale, Oklahoma with interment in the Lawson Cemetery. Family visitation will be Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at the funeral home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m Memorials can be made to Sojourn Hospice or Friends of the Lawson Cemetery.

Clarence Eugene Fridley

Clarence Eugene Fridley, loving father and U.S. Marine, passed away late Saturday evening, April 15, 2006 at his residence at the age of 81 years.

The son of the late Floyd E. Fridley and Pearl B. Meyers, Clarence was born at home on Sept. 19, 1924, in Coldwater, Kansas and was reared and educated there before moving to Enid, Oklahoma where he finished High School.

Clarence enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on November 17, 1941 and proudly served until his discharge on December 1, 1945. As part of the Amphibious Reconnaissance Battalion, Clarence fought in the battles of Midway, Saipan, Tinian, Iwo Jima and Okinawa to name only a few. Until his health began to fail, Clarence was an active member of the Marine Corps Force Recon Association and loved seeing and talking with his old buddies from the service.

After leaving the Marine Corps, Clarence married Norma Lee Lumen on December 27, 1945, in Santa Monica, California where they lived for about one year. They moved to Stillwater where Clarence studied at Oklahoma State (Oklahoma A&M) and graduated with a degree in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration on May 31, 1948. He worked for a time at Billings Electric in Enid. Later, Clarence and Norma moved to the plains of West Texas where he began his career in the oil field in the cities of Stanton, Midland and Borger. He was president of Borger/Phillips Jaycees for several years. Clarence and Norma came to Cushing in 1975, moving here from Borger, Texas. He retired from Phillips Petroleum on February 1, 1982 after 30 years. After retirement, Clarence worked for Eseco until deciding to stay at home with Norma whose health had begun to decline.

Clarence was a very active member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was a Teacher in the Church. He helped to build the RLDS church building in Borger.

He enjoyed fishing, bowling, golfing, reading and spending time with his family and helping others in need. He very often gave freely of his time to mow a disabled friend's yard, repair a home when they couldn't afford it or just be there to listen to their troubles and offer friendly advice.

Survivors include his two daughters, Cindy Lidberg and Melody Gosnell of Cushing; son Steven of Round Rock, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Inez, Beatrice and Maxine.

Visitation will be on Tuesday and the family will also greet friends in the Davis Memorial Chapel on Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 11:30.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at 2 P.M. in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Enid. Semper Fi, Dad. We love and miss you.
