Addie Buckner Choate

Addie Buckner Choate, 87, died Tuesday at a Waco Hospital. Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Julie Pennington-Russell officiating. Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday in Grove Hill Cemetery, Dallas.

Choate was born Aug. 1, 1914, in Chefoo, China, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. R.E. Beddoe, Southern Baptist medical missionaries in Wuchow, China, and the great-granddaughter of Dr. R.C. Buckner, founder of the Buckner Orphans' Home in Dallas.

She attended high school in Dallas, Baylor College at Belton and earned her master of arts from the University of Oklahoma. She also did graduate work at the University of Colorado and in France. She was a member of Alpha Chi and Alpha Mu Gamma and taught French for 26 years at Louisiana College and at Oklahoma Baptist University.

After retirement, Choate taught English in Zhegzhou, China, before moving to Galveston, Texas, where she continued to teach International English and Bible through the First Baptist Church. She also was a mission study director for Women's Missionary Union.

In December 1998, she moved to Waco, where she sang in the Baylor Adult Choir, was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and taught English to internationals.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Julian Choate; son, Robert Julian Choate; and sister, Mary Francis Ross.

She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Ann Roberts; sons, David Beddoe Choate and Paul Lamar Choate; in-laws, Alan, Amy, Marge and Dr. M.L. Ross; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to an international ministry at the Baptist church of your choice or to the Buckner Benevolence of Dallas.

Vonda V. Black

Vonda V. Black, 76, of Tecumseh died Sunday at an Oklahoma City hospital.

Black was born Feb. 9, 1925, in Harden City, Okla., to Med and Lela (Jones) Wyche.

She grew up in the Ada area, graduating from Latta High School.

On June 25, 1943, she married Walter Black in Ada. She had lived in Tecumseh since 1971 and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband Walter Black of the home; three sons, Dewey Black of the home, and Bob Black and Jody Black, both of Tecumseh; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jimmie and Phyllis (Ragsdale) Mileham, Chandler, Blaine and Deborah (Black) Littleton, Tecumseh, and Nancy and Sam Slaughter, Shawnee; four grandchildren, Adam Ragsdale, Atlanta, Ga., Shalah Black and Daniel Evan Slaughter, both of Shawnee, and Shannon Black, Tecumseh; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Doris and Dal Rice, Ada, and Reba Wright, Woodward; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Resthaven Funeral Home with the Rev. Leroy Kerbo officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Ken Schultz

Ken Schultz of Tecumseh died Friday in Tecumseh. He was 65.

Schultz was born Nov. 21, 1935, in Green Bay, Wis.

He served with the U.S. Air Force and had moved frequently while he worked with the civil service in logistics. He had lived in Oklahoma since 1979.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include three sons and one daughter-in-law, Michael and Zaida Schultz, Moore, Greg Schultz, Del City, and Bryan Schultz, Las Vegas, Nev.; five grandchildren, Kevin A. Schultz, Erika A. Schultz, Alyssa D. Schultz, Jennifer Schultz and Jamie Schultz; and many other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Cooper Funeral Home with the Rev. Maurice Jaeb, O.S.B., officiating.

Marilyn Brannon

Meeker resident Marilyn Brannon died Saturday in Meeker. She was 60.

Mrs. Brannon was born on Nov. 28, 1938, in Gene Autry, the daughter of Freeman L. and Inez (Ford) Loughridge.

She married Calvin H. "Cal" Brannon on May 12, 1995, in Tulsa.

Mrs. Brannon grew up in Ardmore and graduated from Ardmore High School. She later earned a bachelor's degree from Northeastern State University.

She worked for the Riggs-Abney Law Firm in Oklahoma City as a legal intern.

Mrs. Brannon had previously worked as a legal assistant in Tulsa and was a past president of the Tulsa Association of Legal Assistants.

She was enrolled in the Oklahoma City University School of Law and was scheduled to graduate in December of 1999.

Mrs. Brannon was nominated for Who's Who in American Law Schools.

She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Cal Brannon, of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Milo and Anne Morrison, Broken Arrow; Carl Morrison, Tulsa; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Doug Jack, Broken Arrow; Carla and Bruce Leake, Tulsa; Mary and Shawn Smith, Sapulpa; her mother, Marie Walters, Ardmore; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Forrest "Bud" and Pat Loughridge, Ardmore; Freeman L. "Moe" and Cathy Loughridge, Tucson, Ariz.; two stepsons and daughters-in-law, Derek and Natalie Brannon, Henryetta; Darin and Deena Brannon, Tulsa; and 10 grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church Circle of Care.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at the Christ United Methodist Church in Tulsa with Dr. Bob Pierson, Dr. Grayson Lucky and the Rev. Denny Hook officiating.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa, under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Prague.

Robert Earl Smith

Longtime Okemah resident Robert Earl Smith died Friday in Eufaula. He was 51.

Smith was born on May 24, 1948, in Okemah to Clarence Edward and Eva (Cornell) Smith.

He attended Okemah public schools and worked as a machinist supervisor at Sertco for 11 years.

Smith was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Smith; and three brothers.

Survivors include his mother, Eva Smith, Okemah; two sons, Robert Wayne Smith and Carl Ray Smith, both of Tulsa; two grandchildren, Ashley and Gunter Smith; six brothers, Clarence Smith Jr., Jerry D. Smith, Larry Smith, Dewayne Smith, Leon Smith and Gary Smith, all of Okemah; five sisters, Shirley Fairres, Edna Carman, Sue Johnson, Beverly Sands and Sondra Underwood, all of Okemah; numerous nieces and nephews; and other family and friends.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at the Skyview Baptist Church in Okemah with the Rev. Carl Clay officiating.

Burial will be held at Highland Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Okemah.

Roy V. "Bud" Stone

Roy V. "Bud" Stone, Shawnee, died Friday. He was 69.

Stone was born on Sept. 26, 1929, in Earlsboro, the son of Blanche Mae (Montgomery) Stone.

He attended school at Ruggles and Tecumseh.

On Nov. 30, 1952, he married T. Clarice Davis in Tecumseh.

Stone was a self-employed truck driver, a member of the Countryside Pentecostal Church of God and a Sunday school superintendent for many years at the Church of God in Shawnee.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Blanche Stone; three brothers, A.C. Bourland, Beauford N. Bourland and Recil Stone; and his grandparents, Robert and Sennie Montgomery.

Survivors include his wife, Clarice Stone, of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Willene Stone, Tecumseh; Dale and Nita Stone, Midwest City; Carl Dewayne and Annette Stone, Stroud; a daughter and son-in-law, Darla and David Smith, Lafayette, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to the Countryside Pentecostal Church of God or Hospice of Shawnee.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Countryside Pentecostal Church of God in Tecumseh with the Rev. Dennis Stone and the Rev. Jon Mitchell officiating.

Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

William Thomas Powell

Stroud resident William Thomas "Bill" Powell died Friday in Tulsa. He was 59.

Powell was born on June 23, 1940, in Terre Haute, Ind., to Albert and Louise (Lakey) Powell.

He married Carol Hayne on Sept. 7, 1963, in Terre Haute, Ind.

Powell had worked at Remington Park in Oklahoma City and John Cassidy Company in Stroud.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Louise Powell; two brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Carol, of the home; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jeffrey and Paula Powell, Wagoner; Billy and Shawnna Powell, Stroud; Bradley Powell, Oklahoma City; a daughter, Candace Crittenden, Stroud; a brother, Paul Powell, Anthony, Fla.; two sisters, Anna Gitton, Terre Haute, Ind.; Juanita Drake, Terre Haute, Ind.; eight grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Stroud with the Rev. Willie Rice officiating.

Burial will be in Stroud Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Stroud.

Mabel Catherine (Foreaker) Wiggins

Mabel Catherine (Foreaker) Wiggins died Sunday in Houston, Texas. She was 91.

Mrs. Wiggins was born on Feb. 1, 1908, in Honey Grove, Texas, to Bert C. and Kate (Roach) Foreaker.

She married Kenneth R. Wiggins, who preceded her in death.

Survivors include her daughter and a son-in-law, Peggy J. and Ronald C. Withers; two grandchildren, Mark C. and his wife, Kathleen, Withers; Katrina D. Withers; a great-grandson, Jacob Pekarek; and a brother, John W. Foreaker.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating.

Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

James Delmer Casey

James Delmer Casey, 65, Prague, died Saturday in Midwest City.

Casey was born on Nov. 24, 1933, in Subiaco, Ark. to Sol Bert and Anna Jane (Quary) Casey.

He married Catherine Ann Barber on Oct. 17, 1990, in Prague.

Casey had resided in Prague since 1943 and worked as a school bus driver for Prague schools since 1986.

He was a member of the View of the Cross Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine Ann Casey, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Stacie Casey, Shawnee; Charles and Gina Casey, Shawnee; two stepsons and a daughter-in-law, David and Sandy Gayler, Ada; Donna Gayler, Lexington; four sisters, Retta Mae Oliver, Pearce, Ark.; Wanda Adams, Seminole; Imogene Austin, Seminole; Arletta Hensley, Oklahoma City; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Prague with the Rev. Waldo Young and the Rev. Darrell Nease officiating.

Burial will be in Little Cemetery.

Millda W. Whitley Peavler

Millda W. (Sachse) Whitley Peavler of Tecumseh died Wednesday at Shawnee Care Center. She was 90.

The former Saint Louis resident was born Feb. 19, 1911, in Shawnee to William and Rosa Sachse. She married Coy Kenneth Peavler on July 19, 1947, in Gainesville, Texas, and he preceded her in death on March 1, 1990.

Mrs. Peavler graduated from East Central University in Ada and had attended Oklahoma Baptist University.

She was a school teacher at Center Point, Moore, Milfay, Maud and El Paso, Texas, and retired in the 1970s.

She was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church, Tecumseh, and St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Maud.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, John Lee Whitley in 1955; daughter, Betty Jo Whitley; and one grandson.

Survivors include her son, Robert Whitley, Pearson; four daughters, Ruth Banks, Irvin, Texas; Sally West, Houston, Texas; Sherry Hackett, Shawnee; and Linda Drayton, Lake Charles, La.; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Maud, with the Rev. Ellis Risenhoover and the Rev. Gene Teel officiating. Burial will be in Wanette Cemetery under the direction of Knight Funeral Home, Maud.
