Mary Smith Koons

Longtime Davenport resident Mary Smith Koons died Thursday in Houston, Texas. She was 96.

Services are pending with Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Chandler.

George N. Smith Sr.

Shawnee resident George N. Smith Sr. died Thursday in an Oklahoma City hospital at the age of 89.

He was born May 19, 1912, to Nolen L. and Grace (Curry) Smith in Chandler. He valedictorian of his Shawnee High School class and attended Oklahoma Baptist University.

He was employed by Sinclair Pipeline and retired as a gauger at the age of 65. He had been married for 66 years to the former Vivian Marie James when she preceded him in death May 29, 2001. They were married in Shawnee.

He also is preceded in death by three children, George Nolen Smith Jr., Hampton Wade Smith and Beverly Nolene Clifton and one sister, Patricia N. Chastain.

Survivors include three grandchildren Martha Marie Cast and Cara Sue Cast, both of San Diego, Calif., and Annie Lombardi, Bahai, Brazil; two sisters, Paraylee Campbell and Marty Meadows, both of Shawnee; one great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Larry Sparks officiating.

William Wright Wiles Sr.

Longtime Shawnee resident William Wright Wiles Sr. died Tuesday in a local nursing home. He was 90.

Wiles was born on Feb. 21, 1909, in Bakersfield, Mo., to John Sanford and Sarah Della (Yates) Wiles.

He graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University and later earned a master's degree from the University of Oklahoma.

He married Helen Ruth Hutchins on Nov. 27, 1936, in Shawnee.

Wiles served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He worked as a teacher and then as a postal clerk. He retired in 1972.

He was a deacon in the First Baptist Church, a member of the board of directors for the Senior Citizens Center and the Tri-County Federal Credit Union.

Wiles also served on the traffic and transportation commission of Shawnee, election board, school board and was a charter member of Mayor's Council of Aging.

He was also active in the American Association of Retired Persons No. 1527, Kiwanis Club, United Way, RSVP, Lions Club, emergency food center, prison visitation at Lexington and programs for the elderly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Sarah Wiles, and two sisters.

Wiles is survived by his wife, Helen Wiles, Shawnee; a son, William Wright Wiles Jr., Oklahoma City; a son and daughter-in-law, John Frederick and Donna Kay Wiles, Columbus, Ohio; five grandchildren, William W. Wiles III, Portland, Ore.; Cynthia Lynne and Rob Grindstaff, Oklahoma City; John Frederick Wiles Jr., Mexico City, Mexico; Jason Louis and Sharon Wiles, Westerville, Ohio; Julie Anne Wiles, Columbus, Ohio; and a great-granddaughter, Megan Elizabeth Grindstaff.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Shawnee.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Paul Clames officiating.

Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel of Shawnee.

Robert Edward Fugatt Sr.

Prague resident Robert Edward Fugatt Sr. died Saturday in Prague. He was 84.

Fugatt was born on Sept. 30, 1914, in San Pedro, Calif., the son of Edward and Bruza (Stiff) Fugatt.

He married Juanita (Bronson) Wagner on June 9, 1979, in Idlewild, Calif.

Fugatt had retired from the research and development department of the Ralston-Purina Co. in San Diego, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Bruza Fugatt; a brother; a son; and a daughter.

Fugatt is survived by his wife, Juanita Fugatt, of the home; a son, Robert Fugatt Jr., Harbor City, Calif.; a stepson and his wife, James and Donna Laxton, Prague; a sister, Thelma Templeton, Palis Veros, Calif.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at the home of Robert Fugatt Jr. in Harbor City, Calif.

Genevieve (Hickman) Nall

Genevieve (Hickman) Nall died Monday in Seminole. She was 90.

Mrs. Nall was born on Aug. 3, 1909, in Chandler, the daughter of Lewis and Myrtle (Lightfoot) Hickman.

She married N.H. "Buck" Nall on Aug. 25, 1931, in Holdenville.

Mrs. Nall worked for Douglas Aircraft and City Service Oil Company.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, Beta Sigma Phi sorority and the Ladies Golf Association of Seminole.

Mrs. Nall was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Myrtle Nall.

Survivors include her husband, N.H. "Buck" Nall, of the home; a brother, O.H. Hickman, Shawnee; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens with Dr. James D. Sill Sr. officiating.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.

Barbra Lou Miller

Barbra Lou Miller died Sept. 5 in Henderson, Colo. She was 39.

She was born June 10, 1962, in Roundup, Mont., to George and Phyllis (Shelstad) Miller. She was a meat cutter for Wal-Mart in the Denver area.

Survivors include her son, Phylip Miller, Aurora, Colo.; mother, Phyllis Miller, Henderson, Colo.; brother, George Miller, Shawnee; five sisters, Janice Ball, Agra; Gail Hale, Carney; Billie Jo Miller, Chandler; Jackie Regan, Leola, Alaska; Traci Thomas, Henderson, Colo.; two grandchildren, Caleb and Lilly Miller, Aurora, Colo.; and many other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. today at Wellston Cemetery. Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Chandler, is in charge.

Diane Carter Simpson

Diane Carter Simpson of Seminole died Sunday at Midwest City Regional Hospital. She was 44.

She was born Nov. 3, 1956, in Wewoka, to George Washington Conley II and Florene (Osborne) Carolina. She had lived in Seminole 41 years, moving from Wichita, Kan.

On July 18, 1998, she married J.C. Simpson in Seminole.

Mrs. Simpson was a certified med aide, certified nurse assistant and foot reflexologist. She was an ordained minister, Sunday school teacher and head cook at New Lima Schools for 13 years.

Mrs. Simpson, a member of The Lord's Community Church, Seminole, was preceded in death by her mother, Florene (Osborne) Carolina on Aug. 2, 2001.

Survivors include her father, George Washington Conley II; husband, J.C. Simpson, Seminole; a son, Broc Carter, Shawnee; a daughter, Karla Carter, Oklahoma City; three brothers, Anthony Conley Sr., Midwest City; George Conley III, Wichita, Kan.; and Shane Austin, Stockton, Kan.; three sisters, Dr. Vickie Carter and Mary Andrews, both of Seminole; Kristi Rittenhower, Wichita, Kan.; two grandchildren, Tierra Jones and Ashton Carter.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Macedonia Baptist Church, Wewoka, with the Rev. Fred Morrison and the Rev. Jimmy Moreland officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Andrew Wapskineh Jr.

Shawnee resident Andrew Wapskineh Jr. died Monday in Norman at age 47.

He was born June 29, 1954, in Lawton to Andrew and Pauline Wapskineh Sr. He grew up in Stillwater and graduated from high school in 1973.

He later attended NSU and OSU.

He married Sue Foster in February 1975.

Wapskineh worked for the Oklahoma State Department of Vo-Tech in Stillwater for 15 years and was currently working for the University of Oklahoma Printing Press.

He attended the Glorietta Baptist Church of Oklahoma City.

He is survived by his mother, Pauline Wapskineh of Shawnee; three daughters, Tonya and Lorie Wapskineh, both of Oklahoma City; Annah Wapskineh, of The Colony, Texas; three brothers, Tommy Wapskineh of Hinton; Kenny Wapskineh of McAlester and Ronny Wapskineh of Shawnee; two sisters, Laquetta and Glenda Ellis of Shawnee; one grandson and two aunts.

A wake service will be 8:30 p.m. today at the First Indian Baptist Church. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Indian Baptist Church with the Rev. Bruce Pratt and Larry Don Stafford officiating. Burial will follow at Buck Cemetery in Wewoka.

Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

John J. Dickerson

John J. Dickerson, Shawnee, died Sunday at Shawnee Regional Hospital. He was 86.

Dickerson was born Dec. 2, 1914, in Oswego, Kan., to John H. and Minnie Pearl Grey Dickerson. He had lived in Lyons, Kan., from 1935 to 1998 before moving to Oklahoma.

On Nov. 1, 1936, he married Marjorie L. Janssen in Lyons and she preceded him in death on March 28, 1992.

The oil field driller retired in 1987 and was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge in Lyons and the Carpenters Union in Wichita, Kan.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Dick Moody, Shawnee; daughter-in-law, Sherry Dickerson, Louisville, Colo.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie; son, Jerry Dickerson; infant daughter, Redith Dickerson; three brothers and one sister.

Graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Lyons Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Sillin Funearl Home, Lyons, with the Rev. Cindy Watson officiating.

Memorials may be made to Lyons United Methodist Church or American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.

Burman Coy Autrey

Burman Coy "B.C." Autrey, Shawnee, died Monday at a local hospital at the age of 79.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Jack McKinney Walden

Jack McKinney Walden died Tuesday at the Prague Municipal Hospital at the age of 82.

Services are pending with Parks Brothers Funeral Service of Prague.

Lester William Thomas

Lester William "Sarge" Thomas, Tecumseh, died Monday in a local hospital. He was 79.

Thomas was born on Oct. 13, 1919, in Kendrick, the son of Lester and Lena (Jordan) Thomas.

He entered the U.S. Army in 1939, and attained the rank of sergeant. He served during World War II and the Korean War. Thomas was a member of the 45th Infantry and earned two purple hearts and a medal of valor.

He married Virginia Bailey on Aug. 31, 1962.

Thomas was a member of the Church of Christ in Tecumseh and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Lena Thomas; a daughter, Sharon Jones; four sisters; and a brother.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Dell Thomas; a daughter, Myra McMakin; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kim and Sherri Thomas, Cushing; Scott Cheetwood and LaShawn Milliman; a daughter and son-in-law, Jerry and Richard Miller; a brother and sister-in-law, Max and Virginia Thomas, Stroud; a sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Tom Henshaw, Bristow; five grandchildren, Kim and Richard Purdom; Richard Jr. and Debra Miller; Kelli Patterson; Jennifer and Walter Cartwright; Chuck McMakin; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Resthaven Funeral Home with Bob Anderson officiating.

Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.
