Vera E. Bachuss

Vera E. Bachuss of Shawnee died Sunday at a local hospital. She was 72.

She was born March 29, 1928, in Marshall, Ark., the daughter of Stanley and Sarah (Mathis) Bailey.

She attended public schools in Marshall, Ark. She was a homemaker.

She married Clyde Bachuss in Shawnee on Sept. 12, 1947. She was a member of the Shawnee VFW Auxiliary Post 1317 for the past 26 years, where she served a chaplain for seven years.

She had lived in Shawnee for 53 years.

She was preceded in death by her mother, her father, two brothers and a sister.

Survivors include her husband, Clyde Bachuss of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Rex and Charlet Bachuss, Midwest City; a daughter and son-i-law, Sara and Denny Sanders, Shawnee; two grandchildren, Shelby Kinnamon of Shawnee and Keri Bachuss of Midwest City; one brother, Everett Bailey, Marshall, Ark.; one sister, Mabel Kimbrell, Marshall, Ark.; a mother-in-law, Pearl Bachuss, Shawnee; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jack Eldred officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Gary Yott

Gary Yott, Shawnee, died Saturday in Oklahoma City. He was 30.

Yott was born June 22, 1969, in Shawnee, the son of Raymond and Barbara (Wall) Yott.

He grew up in Macomb and graduated from Macomb High School in 1987. He attended Draughan Electronic School for two years.

Yott worked for Seagate as an electronics technician.

He was a member of Romulus Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, George Yott and Reece Wall.

Survivors include his two daughters, Priscilla Marie Yott and Olivia Gail Yott, both of Macomb; father, Raymond Yott, Macomb; mother, Barbara Yott, Stigler; a sister, Christy Lynn Armstrong, Seminole; two grandmothers, Lenora Gill, Shawnee; Florence Yott, Asher; and many other relatives and friends.

Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Home in Tecumseh with J. Clifton Briscoe of the Living Word Church in Shawnee, officiating. Assisting will be Keith Thomas of the Church of God in Moore.

Burial will be in Johnson Cemetery, under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.

Viola Harman

Former Tecumseh resident Viola Harman, Oklahoma City, died Thursday in Oklahoma City. She was 91.

Mrs. Harman was born Aug. 30, 1908, in Otis, Kan., to Jacob and Katherine (Brack) Lebsack.

She attended school in Otis, Kan., where she graduated from high school in 1926.

She married William Jewell Harman on Aug. 16, 1931, in Garden City, Kan. He preceded her in death on Nov. 28, 1975.

Mrs. Harman retired from the Central Oklahoma Juvenile Treatment Center in 1974.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, chapter 30 in Tecumseh, and was a past worthy matron. She also was active in the White Shrine and the Sorosis Club.

She attended Broadway United Methodist Church in Tecumseh, and was a member of the United Methodist Women.

Mrs. Harman was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and six brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her daughter, Dorothy Taylor, Oklahoma City; a son, Michael C. Harman, San Marcos, Calif.; a grandson, Richard Lee Dinger, and two granddaughters, Shelley Roberts and Teresa Daugherty, all of Oklahoma City; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Broadway United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, the American Heart Association or the Diabetes Foundation.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Mike DeMoss of United Methodist Church in Bristow, officiating.

Services are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Winona McKosato

Winona Grace Exendine McKosato died Saturday in Shawnee. She was 92.

Mrs. McKosato was born Sept. 14, 1907, in Exendine, Okla., to Jasper and Sadie Clark Exendine.

She was a homemaker, and a longtime resident of Pottawatomie County.

She married Charles McKosato.

Mrs. McKosato's Sac and Fox name was Naw-Math-The-Qua. Her Delaware name was Alla-Ma-Oque.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles McKosato; a son; a daughter; a grandson; her parents; and six brothers.

Survivors include her five daughters, Patricia McKosato, Prague, Alwanda Ross, Horton, Kan., Anna Kilgore, Pryor, Elizabeth Chaino Ahkeahbo, Oklahoma City, and Carmen Ketcher, Bartlesville; 22 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Wake service will be Wednesday evening at the McKosato home, 3.75 miles west of Centerview and .25 miles south.

Tribal services will be Thursday morning at the McKosato home with arrangements under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Prague.

Lee Hale

Former Tecumseh resident Lee Hale, Eufaula, died Sunday in Norman. She was 69.

Mrs. Hale was born Feb. 27, 1931, in Smith Center, Kan., the daughter of Sam Carver and Grace Wasameth Hines.

She grew up in Oklahoma City and attended Classen High School in Oklahoma City.

She married James Hale on Feb. 7, 1946, in Maysville, Okla.

Mrs. Hale lived in the Tecumseh area for most of her married life before moving to Eufaula.

She was a homemaker, and a member of First Baptist Church in Tecumseh.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Grace Hines; a sister, Ada McAll; and three brothers, Melvin Carer, Johnny Carver and Ralph Carver.

Survivors include her husband, James Hale, Eufaula; daughter and son-in-law, Leonna and Mike Taber, Seminole; a son, James Hale Jr., Norman; and three sisters, Jean Hale, Shawnee, Ruth Ring, Crook, Colo., and Vera Ellis, Great Bend, Kan.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Tecumseh Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Sparks of New Beginnings Church officiating.

Services are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Lincoln Charles Emery

Lincoln Charles Emery, Konawa, died Friday in Ada. He was 71.

Emery was born April 29, 1929, in Holdenville, to Exle Sr. and Lillie Emery.

He married Essie Mae on Nov. 26, 1994, at Stonewall, Okla.

Emery was the pastor of the Mt. Zion Christian Church, and had lived in Konawa for five years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Exle and Lillie Emery; two brothers, Samuel and Eugene Emery; and two sisters, Opal Staton and Veatrice Emery.

Survivors include his wife, Essie Mae Emery of the home; two sons, Lincoln Charles Emery Jr. and Mark Emery; six daughters, Kathryn Hammons, Patricia Johns, Pauline Ford, Paulette Joyner, Tammy Sanders and Aquila Cofield; a stepdaughter, Billie J. Potts; two brothers, Cecil Emery and Exie Emery Jr.; six sisters, Lila Coulter, Lillian Hines, Evelyn McDonald, Bobbie Island, Betty Williams and Katie Emery; 21 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Pickard Funeral Chapel in Konawa with Pastor Billy Renfro officiating.

Burial will be in Grayson Cemetery in Konawa under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home.

Billy Gene Lyday

Billy Gene Lyday of Konawa died Sunday. He was 76.

He was born April 19, 1924, in Konawa. He was self-employed and lived in the Konawa area all of his life.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church and he was a veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Ode Lyday, and one sister, Opal Lyday.

Survivors include four daughters, Vickie and Dennis Williams, Fredrick; Vallerie and Lonnie Harris, Konawa; Carol and Pat Harding, Midlothian, Texas; Rhonda Avery, Kennesaw, Ga.; one brother, Pete Lyday, Port Arthur, Texas; one sister, Margaret Roberts, Hawkins, Texas; six grandsons, Dennis Williams II, Nick Williams, Heston Williams, Casey Taylor, Hunter Harding, Matt Avery, Kennesaw, Ga.; one granddaughter, Jessica Avery, Konawa.

Services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Pickard Chapel officiated by Rev. Pam Shrink. Burial will follow at Konawa Cemetery under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home.

Gene Graham

Gene Graham of Wanette died Friday. He was 70.

He was born Nov. 3, 1929, in Haskell, Okla., the son of William Edward and Ollie Titus Graham.

He grew up on a farm in Haskell, and graduated from Haskell High School in 1947. He worked as a salesman most of his life selling leather products to shoe and leather shops.

On March 31, 1978, he married Donna Wynelle Pitts. They made their home in Moore, where, in 1979, he started his own business, The Boot Shop. In 1994, he retired and moved to a farm in Wanette, where he attended the United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edd and Ollie Graham; two brothers, Roy and Hubert Graham; one sister, Hazel Williams.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Wynelle Graham of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Jo Graham of Yelm, Wash.; sister-in-law, Maude Graham of Haskell and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, plus many friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Wanette with the Rev. Gene Teel officiating. Burial will be at Wanette Cemetery under the direction of Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.

David Mack Pierce

Former Shawnee resident David Mack Pierce died Sunday in Carrollton, Ga. He was 69.

He was born in Carroll County, Georgia, on May 6, 1931, to the late Earl Pierce and Flora Glenn Pierce. He retired from the Army Corps of Engineers, and attended Christ Fellowship Church.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Rush Pierce of Carrollton, Ga.; four daughters, Deborah Hatley of McLoud, Tammy Dandy and Annette Kinsey, both of Tecumseh, and Linda Pierce of Bremen, Ga.; four sons, Danny Pierce of Shawnee, James Pierce of Colorado Springs, Colo., David W. Pierce of Bremen, Ga., and Chester Pierce of Tallapoosa, Ga.; three sisters, Irene Sanders of Waco, Ga.; Sandra Boling of Tallapoosa, Ga., and Inez Wiggins of Bowdon, Ga.; two brothers, Harvey Pierce of Bremen, Ga., and Hulon Pierce of Bowdon, Ga.; 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service and visitation was held today at Martin and Hightower West Center Street Chapel in Carrollton, Ga.

Montie Chitsey

Montie Chitsey died Sunday in Prague. She was 82.

She was born Dec. 21, 1917, in Killeen, Texas. She was the daughter of Monroe Curry and Sarah Elizabeth (Kirksey) Curry.

She was married to W.T. Chitsey at Roswell, N.M. on Feb. 15, 1942. She was a retired registered nurse.

Mr. and Mrs. Chitsey made their home in Prague for the past five years, and previously lived in the Choctaw area.

Survivors include her husband, W.T. Chitsey of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Aubrey and Linda Chitsey, Midwest City, and Rodney and Luanna Chitsey, Prague; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at the Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel, Prague, with the Rev. Mark Simms officiating. Burial will follow in the Prague Cemetery under the direction of the Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Prague.
