Rudy Pfeiffer

Rudy Pfeiffer of Maud died Sunday at a Shawnee hospital. She was 93.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Baptist Church in Maud under the direction of Knight Funeral Home, Maud.

Sopha Norene Powell

Sopha Norene Powell, 88, died Sunday at her home in Okemah.

She was born Dec. 3, 1912, to James Franklin Hudspeth and Mary Lucy (Mealer) Hudspeth in Pleasant Hill, Ark.

She married the Rev. James Oris Powell Nov. 22, 1938, in Onia, Ark. He preceded her in death on June 20, 1995.

Mrs. Powell had been a resident of Okemah since 1958 and was a member of Mission Baptist Church of Okemah.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Gerthy Branscum; brothers, Claude Hudspeth, Otto Hudspeth, Arnold Hudspeth and Alva Hudspeth; and a great-grandchild.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, James R. and Judy Powell of Okmulgee; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Seran, Wanda and Rowe Bean, Wilma Link , Doris and Nickey Lambeth and Norma Moore, all of Okemah; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Okemah. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery with Pastor Luther Branscum officiating and Pastor Gary Fletcher assisting.

Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah.

Betty Marie Rose

Betty Marie Rose of Okemah died Saturday at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital in Bakersfield, Calif. She was 75.

She was born Oct. 16, 1925, in Oklahoma to Mills Barrett Gettys and Glapha Irene Flanders Gettys.

She married Herman L. Rose on Feb. 26, 1944, in Wewoka.

Mrs. Rose was a member of the First Baptist Church of Okemah.

Survivors include two daughters, Terry Ashley of Yukon and Nancy Hudnall of Bakersfield, Calif.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Okemah. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery with the Reverend Curtis Townley officiating.

Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah.

Mel Renfroe

Mel Renfroe, 65, died Sunday at his Okemah home.

Renfroe was born July 4, 1935, in Snowball, Ark., to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Clayton Renfroe.

He married Reitha Renfroe on Jan. 26, 1953, in Salome, Ariz.

He had lived in Okemah since 1992, and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Geraldine Renfroe, Okemah; daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Donovan Sheppard, Okemah; two brothers, Dale Renfroe, Oklahoma City, and Ricky Renfroe, Washington; sister, Betty Walker, Oklahoma City; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and sister.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Highland Cemetery gazebo under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah with Roger Thompson officiating.

Don Shields

Shawnee resident Don Shields died Wednesday at a Midwest City hospital. He was 78.

Shields was born Dec. 19, 1922, in Clovis, N.M., to Claude and Willie Shields. He was raised in Melrose, N.M., and had lived in Shawnee since 1947.

He married Mary Kathryn Hoover Nov. 19, 1946, in Portales, N.M. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was employed at Tinker Air Force Base until his retirement in 1980.

Shields was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Kathryn Shields of the home, a son and daughter-in-law, Mickey and Debbie Shields, Simi Valley, Calif.; four daughters and sons-in -law, Donna and Dick Marcum, Beaumont, Texas; Wanda and Wayne Combs of Midwest City; Vonda and Leonard Davis of Shawnee, Brenda and David Wright of Sedgwick, Kansas; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Jean Crowder, Clovis, N.M., and Leota Latta, Alamogordo, N.M., and several other relatives.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with Dwayne Dennis officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

The casket will not be open during the service, which will conclude at the funeral home.

Paul Record

Paul Record, 31, Tecumseh died Friday in Shawnee.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel. Glen Mason will officiate. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery.

Kate J. Reed

Kate J. Reed died Friday in her Tecumseh home at the age of 87.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Tecumseh Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.

Pauline E. Means

Pauline E. Means of McLoud died Saturday at McLoud. She was 80.

She was born Sept. 16, 1920, in Pauls Valley to Omer Vester and Susan Katie (Leeper) Williams. She grew up west of Tecumseh, where she attended school.

On Nov. 18, 1935, she married Charles E. Means in Oklahoma City. The couple lived in several Oklahoma towns where he was a minister. They moved to McLoud in 1979.

Mrs. Means was a homemaker, member of the McLoud Pentecostal Holiness Church and served as Women's Auxiliary president for years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a sister.

Survivors include her husband, Charles E. Means, of the home; four daughters and sons-in-law, Norma and Rayford Johnson, Eufaula; Charlene and Johnny Shepherd, Norman; Carol and Phil Moffitt, Spencer; Sue and Richard Pierce, Hot Springs, Ark.; son and daughter-in-law, Willard and Betty Means, Norman; five sisters, Kathryn Crouch, Martha French and Gin Williams, all of Tecumseh; Wanda Pitman, Williston, N.D.; Ruth Garver, El Cajon, Calif.; brother, Orval V. Williams, LaHabra, Calif.; 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at McLoud Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. David Trammell and the Rev. James McDowell officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park. Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh, is in charge of arrangements.

Betty Jo Lewis

Former Shawnee resident Betty Jo Lewis, 68, Oklahoma City, died Thursday.

She was born March 10, 1933, in Goree, Texas, the daughter of J.L. "Tuck" and Noriene Duval. She grew up in Shawnee.

She had lived in Venezuela, Utah, Texas and Louisiana before moving to Yukon in 1976.

Mrs. Lewis, a private pilot, worked in petroleum and real estate. She was the Pentecostal faith.

Her parents precede her in death.

Survivors include J.B. Lewis; children and their spouses, John Michael and Sherry Lewis of Vernal, Utah, Marcia and Chris Darrow of Del City, Tommy Alan and Vickie Lewis of Mustang and Leslie and Lynn Stambaugh of Piedmont; grandchildren, D.J. Lewis, Jim and Amelia Lewis, Amelia, T.J. and Cassie Joe Lewis, Elizabeth Darrow and Angelia Wells; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday at Yanda and Son Chapel in Yukon. Burial will follow at Frisco Cemetery, also in Yukon.

Mildred K. Pigg

Mildred K. Pigg, 92, died Thursday at Harrah.

She was born Jan. 1, 1909, in Van Buren, Ark.

Survivors include her sons, George Davis of Harrah and Gerald Davis of Phoenix, Ariz., seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Monday in Springfield, Mo.

Arrangements are under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service, Harrah.

Biva Mae Palmer

Biva Mae Palmer, Maud, died Friday in Maud at the age of 78.

The daughter of Carlous Cleveland and Hettie Angline (Casey) Martin was born July 8, 1923, in Newton County, Ark. She had attended Central School.

As a child, she and her parents moved to Oklahoma. She was raised at Punkin Center, southeast of Maud. She had lived in the Seminole and Maud areas most of her life.

A member of First Assembly of God Church in Maud, she had worked as a provider in home health care.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one brother, Bois Martin, and two sisters, Marie Hopper and Vala Dee Lewis.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Elmer C. and Virginia Hopper of Ada and Louis R. and Carol Hopper of Tecumseh; brother, the Rev. Lois Martin of Maud; sister, Jessie Self of Seminole; grandchildren, Michael Hopper of Allen; Rod and Reneé Hopper of Shawnee, Debra Hopper of Ada and Diann and Jimmy Ensey of Ada, as well as seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at First Assembly of God Church, Maud. The Rev. Tim Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Cummings Cemetery, Maud.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.

John Clifford Stricklin

John Clifford Stricklin, Paden, died Saturday at his home. He was 87.

Stricklin was born Oct. 16, 1913, in Aydelotte, Okla., to William H. and Daisy (Shaffer) Stricklin.

On Aug. 27, 1938, Stricklin married Marie Lorene Harwell in Okemah. He was a member of the Paden First Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of the deacons and taught Sunday school classes for more than 60 years.

He was a farmer and oil field pumper and drove a school bus for Paden Public Schools for 24 years.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a grandson, Kurtis Patrick Stricklin, and a sister, Lou Ella Irick.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Marie Stricklin, of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Dorothy Stricklin, Webbers Falls, Okla., Jerry and Lee Stricklin, Paden, and Wayne and Kristi Stricklin, Paden; two daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Billy Earl Coleman, Prague, and Lissa Kay and Johnie Wallis, Paden; a sister, Lilly Belle Watkins, Paden; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Paden, with Paul Cunningham officiating. Burial will be in Prague Cemetery. Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Prague, is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be noon to 9 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Shawnee, Shawnee Regional Hospital, 1102 W. MacArthur St., Shawnee, OK, 74804-9989, or to Paden First Baptist Church Building Fund.
